  • NSXMLParser & memory leaks

    - by HBR
Hi, I am parsing an XML file using a custom class that instanciates & uses NSXMLParser. On the first call everything is fine but on the second, third and later calls Instruments show tens of memory leaks on certain lines inside didEndElement, didEndElement and foundCharacters functions. I googled it and found some people having this issue, but I didn't find anything that could really help me. My Parser class looks like this : Parser.h @interface XMLParser : NSObject { NSMutableArray *data; NSMutableString *currentValue; NSArray *xml; NSMutableArray *videos; NSMutableArray *photos; NSXMLParser *parser; NSURLConnection *feedConnection; NSMutableData *downloadedData; Content *content; Video *video; BOOL nowPhoto; BOOL nowVideo; BOOL finished; BOOL webTV; } -(void)parseXML:(NSURL*)xmlURL; -(int)getCount; -(NSArray*)getData; //- (void)handleError:(NSError *)error; //@property(nonatomic, retain) NSMutableString *currentValue; @property(nonatomic, retain) NSURLConnection *feedConnection; @property(nonatomic, retain) NSMutableData *downloadedData; [feed release]; // Parse feed NSString *url = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"MyXMLURL"]; [[self rssParser] parseXML:[NSURL URLWithString:url]]; Now the problem is that after the first (which has zero leaks), instruments shows leaks in too many parts like this one (they are too much to enumerate them all, but all the calls look the same, I made the leaking line bold) : in didEndElement : if ([elementName isEqualToString:@"link"]) { // THIS LINE IS LEAKING => INSTRUMENTS SAYS IT IS A NSCFString LEAK [self content] setUrl:[NSURL URLWithString:cleanValue]]; [[self content] setLink: cleanValue]; } Any idea how to fix this pealse ? Could this be the same problem as the one mentioned (as an apple bug) by Lee Amtrong here :http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1598928/nsxmlparser-leaking

  • Help with iphone button pressed

    - by StealthRT
    I am trying to see which button was clicked on so I can preform the correct logic. This is the code for the buttons: UIButton *button = [[UIButton alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(270, 423, 60, 60)]; [button addTarget:self action:@selector(buttonPressedAction:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; [button setBackgroundImage:[[UIImage imageNamed:@"refreshicon.png"] stretchableImageWithLeftCapWidth:10.0 topCapHeight:0.0] forState:UIControlStateNormal]; UIButton *button2 = [[UIButton alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 423, 60, 60)]; [button2 addTarget:self action:@selector(buttonPressedAction:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; [button2 setBackgroundImage:[[UIImage imageNamed:@"login.png"] stretchableImageWithLeftCapWidth:10.0 topCapHeight:0.0] forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [self.navigationController.view addSubview:button]; [self.navigationController.view addSubview:button2]; And this is how I call the buttonPressedAction: - (void)buttonPressedAction:(id)sender { NSLog(@"%@", [sender value]); isRefreshing = TRUE; [self loadTheXML]; [self.tableView reloadData]; } But when I use NSLog to see what the sender value is, it crashes. Any advice for what's happening and how to correct it?

  • Need help with creating complex UITableView items (like the Settings app).

    - by Craig
I hoping to create a custom Settings view, similar to the Settings application, but with more control over the UI and access to some settings (i need to lock some of the settings). Obvously, there are a variety of UI elements mixed in each row of application's UITableView. For example, the 'Airplane Mode' setting shows a UISwitch, while the 'Wi-Fi' setting has a text value adjacent to the disclosure symbol (''). Further complicating matters, is the grouping of these settings. I have some general questions about the approach I should take: Seems like i need to save the name of the setting, its current value, its grouping, and the type of UI element(s) needed to modify its value. i would like to make use [NSUserDefault standardUserDefaults], but not have these settings appear in the Settings application. I'm guessing that I will need to create my own settings-persistence class. is it better to build each one of these complex UI-element combinations in code or to create a series of custom views based on the UITableViewCell and load the appropriate one? i'm guessing the latter. some of the setting require that i load another view to select its value. assuming that the application is based on the Utility pattern, should the SettingsView manage the navigation stack, rather than having the app delegate do so? Thanks for your time and comments. Craig Buchanan

  • Why is my app running

    - by John Smith
I have compiled my iPhone app with setting (Device, Release). I install it on the test machine and it runs with no problem. Here's the problem. The app is linked to a C++ library. The compilation on the simulator has no errors. However the device compilation produces 568 errors, mostly about different visibilities w.r.t AppDelegate.o. They all look like: QL::Error::~Error()has different visibility (default) in /QL/build/Release-iphoneos/libQLLibrary.a(abcd.o) and (hidden) in /Programming/ObjC/Second/build/Second.build/Release-iphoneos/FG.build/Objects-normal/armv6/AppDelegate.o Why is this, and how can I stop the errors anyway?

  • ASIHttpRequest problems. "unrecognized selector sent to instance"

It is meant to retrieve a XML Plist from a server, parse it and use the data... but it dies at the rackDone: Does anybody have any ideas? Regards, Paul Peelen

  • iPhone UITableView trigger a parent method?

    - by MidnightLightning
Okay, so I'm working on an iPhone app with a preferences-esque section where there's a base TableView, which has one section, and several rows of customized cells to hold a name and a value label. Clicking on a row brings up another View, which allows the user to pick from a list (another TableView), and select an item. All of these TableViews are done programatically. The base TableView has a property that holds a Controller instance for each of the "pick from the list" Views. Each of the "pick from the list" views has a property called chosenValue that has the currently-selected option. I've gotten the UI to handle the didSelectRowAtIndexPath to update the chosenValue property and then "pop" the view (going back to the main TableView). But, even though the main TableView's cellForRowAtIndexPath method references the chosenValue property of the subview that's held in a property, the view doesn't update when an item is selected. In short, how can the sub-view trigger a reloadData on the parent object, after it "pops" and unloads?

  • Using sectioned tables from an sqlite file with an iPhone uitableview

    - by Chris
I am currently trying to make a sectioned table like this: Section 1: Entry 1 Entry 2 Entry 3 Section 2: Entry 4 Entry 5 Entry 6 Section 3: Entry 7 Entry 8 ... However, using this code: Event *lists = (Event *)[eventList objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; accessStatement = "select * from DatabaseName"; [self findEvents]; // Code that builds each object's strings from database cell.textLabel.text = lists.name; Section 1: Entry 1 Entry 2 Entry 3 Section 2: Entry 1 Entry 2 Entry 3 Section 3: Entry 1 Entry 2 ... It keeps on repeating itself. How do I make the index so that it continues in each section rather than restarts? Thanks in advance.

  • NSString to NSData Failing in Encoding

    - by Travis
I'm trying to use NSXmlParser to parse ISO-8859-1 data. Using Apple's own example for parsing ISO-8859-1, I have the following. NSString *xmlFilePath = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:sampleFileName ofType:@"xml"]; NSString *xmlFileContents = [NSString stringWithContentsOfFile:xmlFilePath encoding:NSISOLatin1StringEncoding error:nil]; NSLog(@"contents: %@", xmlFileContents); I see that in the console, the contents of the string is accurate. However when I try to convert it to an NSData object (for use with the parser), I do the following. NSData *xmlData = [xmlFileContents dataUsingEncoding:NSISOLatin1StringEncoding]; But then when my didStartElement delegate gets called, I see  showing up which I think is from an encoding discrepancy. Can NSXmlParser handle ISO-8859-1 and if so, what am I doing wrong?

  • UITableView and SearchBar problem

    - by dododedodonl
Hi all, I'm trying to add a Search bar to my UITableView. I followed this tutorial: http://clingingtoideas.blogspot.com/2010/02/uitableview-how-to-part-2-search.html. I'm getting this error if I type a letter in the search box: Rooster(10787,0xa05ed4e0) malloc: *** error for object 0x3b5f160: double free *** set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug. This error occurs here: - (BOOL)searchDisplayController:(UISearchDisplayController *)controller shouldReloadTableForSearchString:(NSString *)searchString { [self handleSearchForTerm:searchString]; return YES; } (on the second line) - (void)handleSearchForTerm:(NSString *)searchTerm { [self setSavedSearchTerm:searchTerm]; if ([self searchResults] == nil) { NSMutableArray *array = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [self setSearchResults:array]; [array release]; } //Empty the searchResults array [[self searchResults] removeAllObjects]; //Check if the searchTerm doesn't equal zero... if ([[self savedSearchTerm] length] != 0) { //Search the whole tableList (datasource) for (NSString *currentString in tableList) { NSString *klasString = [[NSString alloc] init]; NSInteger i = [[leerlingNaarKlasList objectAtIndex:[tableList indexOfObject:currentString]] integerValue]; if(i != -1) { klasString = [klassenList objectAtIndex:(i - 1)]; } //Check if the string matched or the klas (group of school) if ([currentString rangeOfString:searchTerm options:NSCaseInsensitiveSearch].location != NSNotFound || [klasString rangeOfString:searchTerm options:NSCaseInsensitiveSearch].location != NSNotFound) { //Add to results [[self searchResults] addObject:currentString]; //Save the klas (group of school). • Using malloc/free in Objective-C object

    - by Itamar Katz
I have a class AudioManager with a member of type AudioBufferList *. (This is a struct declared in the CoreAudio framework). Since AudioBufferList is not a NSObject, I cannot retain it, so I have to alloc/free it (correct me if I'm wrong). My question is, where is the 'right' place to free it? Currently I am doing it in the dealloc method of AudioManager. If I understand correctly, this method is invoked automatically once the release message is sent to the instance of AudioManager --- is that true? Is there any other recommended practice regarding using alloc/free on non-objects members of Objective-C objects? Edit: From Apples documentation: Subclasses must implement their own versions of dealloc to allow the release of any additional memory consumed by the object—such as dynamically allocated storage for data or object instance variables owned by the deallocated object. After performing the class-specific deallocation, the subclass method should incorporate superclass versions of dealloc through a message to super: Which makes things a little bit clearer - but more insights are appreciated.

  • Install multiple iPhone apps at once from Xcode to device

    - by Dimitris
Supposing we have an Xcode iPhone project with 2 targets, is it possible to build and install both of them on the device with one click? Of course, I understand we will not be able to "build and run" both, but can we at least install them? And to extend this concept a bit a bit: are there any scripts to achieve the same thing but with multiple iPhone projects instead of multiple targets in one project? This would be useful when you want to load all your apps on a new development device and don't want to go through all your projects one by one and install.

    - by Jameson
So I created my iPad app and submitted it to the store, the app is called photogoo. I now have the iPad and I am finding that it is not possible to browse to the app in any way, confirmed by the zero downloads from yesterday. It is only possible to find by searching.. I also noticed that the apps in entertainment were being listed alphabetically and stopped at "F" Am I really being excluded because my app starts with the letter "P" or is it possible there is some reason that I am not being listed under "all apps"?

  • MFMailComposeViewController broke CSS styles in html template

    - by Victor
I use MFMailComposeViewController to send a message in html format. If my html template contains the css styles: <div class="margin:10 10 10 0"> <a href="domain.name">Go To</a></div> In this case it works good. But if I send: <a href="domain.name">Go&nbsp;To</a> then I see the letter that comes with broken styles as there (3D is not my misprint) <div style=3D"margin:10 10 10 10;"><a href=3D"www.google.com">Go=C2=A0To</a></div> Well as the letter goes broken when I insert in the template symbols from national alphabets. Somebody can tell what the problem and check with yourself?

  • How is the iPhone SMS compose view implemented?

    - by erotsppa
Regarding the SMS compose view as show in the picture below: I have two questions: 1) How is the text entry box implemented? There are no standard control from the API and the box is smart enough to resize when you press enter OR when the text is too long. Also the bar resizes with it. How is this done with the least coding? 2) How to code it such that when the keyboard shows up the whole view shifts up? Typically when the keyboard shows, it goes over your current view.
