• VIDEO Streaming - How to output the video timestamp?

  I would like to backup an ASF video stream with the time stamp (I mean the original recording date/time) on the output stream ? Usage I convert / store my video using the mkv format (Matroska) with libx264 (video) and aac (audio) codecs. Assume the IP camera webcam user account is account, the password password $ ffmpeg -i http://admin:alpha1237@webcam/videostream.asf -c:v libx264 -s 768X432 -crf 13 -b:v 2500K -pix_fmt yuv420p -c:a libfdk_aac output.mkv This works fine on a tenvis JPT3815W camera How to I need to get the video timestamp available for display as a subtitle or other meta data field managed by standard video players, and ideally to be able to hide it or not during video reading. • Installing Sql Server 2005 SP2 - Getting error on analysis services component

  At first many of the components didn't install and I followed this workaround (fixing user/SID mappings in registry.) After that everything installed successfully except for analysis services. I am getting the exact same error message as before on analysis services. (Are there other users installed by sql server I'm not aware of perhaps?) Do you guys have any ideas? All of my searches seem to just point to that workaround above that I already did. We are using sandcastle to create the documentation (company choice), and I want to be able to review my xml comments without building the help file every time. Is there an application that anyone would recommend where I can view how the xml renders before I build the help file? • WebClient/Publisher Temporary Files in CleanMgr(Disk Cleanup)

  When I run Disk Cleanup (cleanmgr.exe) on my work PC (running WinXP), it claims to see 778,520 K of WebClient/Publisher Temporary Files Although I do check that field, the number never drops. I've manually scanned through all possible temp folders on the drive and don't see anyplace hiding 760 MB of temp files, which makes me wonder whether those files merely exist in some list (registry or INI) somewhere but don't actually exist on the drive. So, my questions are: 1. Where on the drive might those WebClient/Publisher Temporary Files be 2. Where does cleanmgr.exe look to determine how much disk space is used by WebClient/Publisher Temporary Files Thanks in advance.

• Overcrowded Windows XP Folders

  I know that, technically, an individual Windows XP directory can hold an immense number of files (over 4.29 billion, according to a quick Google search). However, is there a practical ceiling where too many files in one directory starts having an impact on reads to those files? If so, what factors would exacerbate or help the issue? I ask because my employer has several hundred XP machines in the field at client sites, and the performance on some of the older ones is getting "sludgy." The machines download and display client-defined images, and my supervisor and I suspect that our slacktastic approach to cache management could be to blame. (Some of the directories have tens of thousands of images in them.) I'm trying to gather evidence to support or contest the theory before spending time on a coding fix.

• Preventing a confirmation pop-up when updating fields in Word

  In Word 2007, an obvious candidate for updating all the fields in a range is myrange.Fields.Update But if the range is the element of ActiveDocument.StoryRanges corresponding to the footnotes, endnotes or comments, this triggers a confirmation pop-up “Word cannot undo this action. Do you want to continue?” What is this pop-up telling me about? How do I get rid of it (if it's not important)? An obvious workaround is to iterate over the fields and call each field's Update method. It doesn't fire up that question.   I'm trying to pick an IP telephony technology to learn. I heard of Asterisk, trixbox, freePBX, and my head was already spinning being not sure what to learn. • Does SpinRite do what it claims to do?

  I don't have any real (i.e. professional) experience with Steve Gibson's SpinRite so I'd like to put this to the SF community. Does SpinRite actually do what it claims? Is it a good product to use? With a proper backup solution and RAID fault tolerance, I've never found need for it, but I'm curious. There seems to be some conflicting messages regarding it, and no hard data to be found either way. On one hand, I've heard many home users claim it helped them, but I've heard home users say a lot of things -- most of the time they don't have the knowledge or experience to accurately describe what really happened. On the other hand, Steve's own description and documentation don't give me a warm fuzzy about it either. So what is the truth of the matter? Would you use it?

  I'm trying to find some sort of physical product that would either go on the top or the side of an lcd monitor and give me space to tape/push-pin/post it note things for myself. In my head I am picturing an extra space above your monitor 6 inches tall that lets you tape/push pin things up in front of you. For random notes and things I want to keep track of, having them on the top/side of my monitor would keep the space on my desk itself clear, and they would be closer to my field of vision. Does something like this exist? Do I need to rig up something myself?   Is it possible to trick the GoGo Inflight WiFi on airlines into thinking that you have a mobile device instead of a laptop? It seems like most airlines that offer in flight wireless these days use GoGo. They offer different pricing for mobile and laptops. It seems like they are checking the browser's user agent. Out of curiosity, is it possible to use a Firefox extension like this one to spoof the user-agent and allow a laptop to access the internet under a GoGo mobile plan? How would GoGo handle something like an IMAP email client, like Thunderbird. Do IMAP clients have a user-agent field as well that would normally identify whether the mail client is running on a laptop or mobile device?

• How to make TimeMachine back up contents of any path or mounted volume

  I keep different types of data in different encrypted sparsebundle images (say, one for each client) which automatically mount upon login but can't be opened by anybody other than myself. So, after login I have a number of virtual volumes in /Volumes/ which keeps my client data both secure and organized. How do I include data inside these virtual Volumes in TimeMachine's backups, or data residing in any path on any partition/volume? I found a promising solution description at blog.eurocomp.info involving editing the com.apple.TimeMachine.plist but all I can get TimeMachine to do is backing up the sparsebundle files themselves. I want it to back up the files inside the mounted image, though - something like adding /Volumes/Client_abc/ to TimeMachine's search path. Please do not redirect my to this previous question as it doesn't solve the problem at all. Please also refrain from telling me why you think I should not want this answer as that will not solve anything either. Please lastly don't say "it can't be done" unless you can technically prove that claim.

• WMIC returns error when querying product

  I'm trying to automate the installation of an MSI on my server, however before the installation can go ahead I need to uninstall the previous version from the server. Searching on the internet I've found that WMIC is the tool required but there seems to be a problem with the setup of WMI on the server. • Configure Console2 to open bash in current folder

  I've seen this but it doesn't work for me. I'm not using Git's version of bash but the one that comes with cygwin, so that could be part of the problem. Here is how I have my tab in Console2 set up: Title: bash.exe Shell: C:\cygwin\bin\bash.exe --login -i Startup dir: %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH% This is my registry entry: Directory shell Console2 Open Console2 Here command "C:\Console2\Console.exe" -d "%1" bash always starts in my home directory instead of the directory I'm clicking on, then I have to cd /cygdrive/d/code ... etc. I tried removing the value in the "Startup dir" field, changing it to %1, %1% with no luck. • Referring to mailmerge fields in an if statement

  Context: Windows 7 Microsoft Office Word 2007 I have a mailmerge field named "On_FB". Current code: { IF { On_FB } = "Y" "You're on Facebook." "You're not on Facebok."} The moment I get out of code-editing view, the code goes haywire. When I flip back to code-editing view, I see that the code has magically turned into: { IF " Y" = "Y" "You're on Facebook." "You're not on Facebok."} Needless to say, this is a complete bust because it will always say that the person is not on Facebook. I tried putting { On_FB } on its own and that works fine. What can I do to make the If statement work? (By the way, all the { and } were inserted via CTRL+F9.)

• When my printer fails to print with only "printer error" as the message, how can I find details?

  Setup: Dell Latitude D620 in the docking station HP color laserjet 2550L Parallel cable Sometimes when I undock (and I do suspend before undocking and docking), when I reattach, the printer will not print. It simply says "error", with no description. Killing and restarting the spooler will not help, but rebooting will. There is nothing in the system event logs, nor does the print spooler window provide any details other than "error" My question is, when there is an error, is there any way to find out what is causing it to get stuck, so that I can "unstuck" it instead of rebooting?

• remote desktop: the app on the remote machine is confusing the controller's hostname with its own hostname

  I have 2 machines A, B, both run Windows OS. A is my work machine, B is a server on which I have already installed SQLServer. Now I want to install another software on B which runs on top of the SQLServer. I remote connect to B from A. Then on the remote desktop, I start the installer, along the installation process, there's a step where I can configure which server to connect to. normally B's hostname is entered automatically to the hostname field. The issue I'm having is, when I get to that step, A's hostname is entered automatically instead of B's, and even if I manually correct it to 'localhost' or '127.0.0.1' or B's hostname, the installer still cannot connect to B's service as if it still try to connect to A. Theoretically, how does this happen? how is this possible?

  As an avid user of todo apps (currently Asana) is very much miss a way to easily forward an email from Postbox to my GTD app. Currently the workflow is: Click cmd/L to open the forward email window Type [email protected] in the To: address field Click the send button in the forward email window What I would like to have is an automator or applescript that does that for me. Ex: Highligh/select the mail I wish to convert to a task in Asana and the type a shortcut like ctrl/cmd/L to forward the mail to Asana. As most todo apps have custom email addresses you can use to convert an email into a task, the only thing that needs to be changed is the email address in the script. For Asana this would not be necessary because the email address for converting an email into a taks is the same for all Asana users.

Lended from the free post: I would expect such an application to have these features: choose the whole desktop, a region, a window to record zoom in an area, and camera move save the recorded movie to a compressed format have basic editing tools have the mouse highlighting feature highlight window/field on the screen, any trick will do display pressed keys/key combinations (like iphone does) So the question is: Which desktop recording/screencasting software would you recommend?
