  A total newbie question I know. I'm sing Zend framework, and sending an array from the controller: $this->view->googleArray = $viewFeedArray; In the view, I have a foreach loop that is populating a table with the array contents. <?php foreach($this->googleArray as $row) { ?> <tr> <td><?php echo $row['when']; ?></td> ... ... </tr> <?php } ?> It all works fine. At the top of the table, I want to list the number of items in the array. Something like (which doesn't work): <?php echo $this->googleArray->totalResults; ?> event(s) found How would I do that? • What language/API to use for a standalone live-input audio visualizer app?

  I develop with Actionscript and was glad to see that AIR 2.0 was going to give access to mic input data. I planned to use this to create a visualizer set to the tempo of the incoming live audio. After doing a few days of google research it seems unlikely that it will be possible to analyze the data of the mic input in Flash/AIR. If anyone has ideas on how I can achieve this in AIR please let me know. (I'm open to workarounds.) That being said, I don't want to give up on the idea so I'm interested in suggestions for other language/API to use. My requirements for the app are: Run on OSX Two windows - one that can go fullscreen while the other(controller GUI) stays put Able to access live mic input data I've done reading on FFT and understand what needs to be done on the sound side so no need to help with that.

complete Looks like the SATA interface tries to use 6Gbps link, then fails miserably and Linux fallbacks to 3Gbps. This is somewhat fine for me, as the system boots successfully each time and works under high load (cd linux-3.2.8; make -j16). I've also ran memtest86+ and it did not find any errors. What concerns me more is that Grub sometimes takes a long time to load the images and/or fails to load itself completely. The error is consistent and is probablistic: that is, each time I boot I have a certain chance to fail. Actually, I have a slight suspiction on the cause of the failure. Look at the cabling: What kind of engineer does it this way? Nah. Even 1Gbps Ethernet hardly tolerates cables bent over a small angle, and there you have 6Gbps SATA. How cound I determine and fix the cause of errors and/or switch the link to 3Gbps mode permanently?

  Using aspnet mvc2 with the model auto-generated by entity framework: Is it possible to tell entity framework to auto-annotate all fields? eg: If database field says not null then add [Required] If DB field is a nvarchar(x) then add [StringLength(x)] And so on? What if the field name contains the string "email" eg CustomerEmail - can I get EF to auto-annotate that with an appropriate annotation ([Regex()] maybe) As I understand it, if the model fields are annotated, and I use both Html.ValidationMessageFor() and use if (ModelState.IsValid) in my controller, then that is all I need to do to have basic clientside input validation working? • Proper way to format date from database using javascript/jquery

  Hi all, I am calling my database which contains a datetime datatype. The date looks like this: 2005-05-23 16:06:00.000 I would like to display this in a table when a user selects a certain item from a list. I call my controller action and return Json of all the times and put them in a table. The problem is the date is completely wrong. What is displayed is this: /Date(1255470180000)/ The date that is returned isn't even parsable (which I don't want to do anyway) so I can't even get the data if I wanted to. Any ideas?

  I've a Core Data application. In the producer thread, I pull data from a web service and store it in my object and call save. My consumer object is a table view controller that displays the same. However, the app crashes and I get NSFetchedResultsController Error: expected to find object (entity: FeedEntry; id: 0xf46f40 ; data: ) in section (null) for deletion on the console. When I debug it, everything works fine. So I understood that it's like a race issue. How is these kind of problem solved? What's the best way to design a producer-consumer app with core-data?

• Table View rotate, but not properly (shape change)

  Hello everyone, Here is the thing. I have a ViewController which contain a view in full window. And the program run in landscape mode. I want to put an UITableView over the full screen view but only on right half part of the screen. So I add a UITableView in my view controller, I used the Interface Builder in order to set the Table View in the upper half of the screen so It will be on the right part in LandscapeLeft mode. I searched for on a lot of forum how to rotate my Table View. And so it does... except, It get stuck on the upper half of the landscape mode, it should stick on the right half. I'm not a iPhone coder since long, so I'm a bit confused on how to solve this problem. Do you have any idea on how to resize or make the TableView rotate properly. Thanks,

• Multiple Forms on the Same Page with Rails

  So I'm building a rails app for high school students and I've hit a problem when it comes to creating users. I want the students to only be able to create accounts if they select their school and type in their school's password correctly. What is the correct / easiest way of doing this? Should I create a gatekeeper to the user#new action that they have to pass first or if their a way that on the same page a student can submit to forms. One would be the regular username, email, password using: form_for @user do ... end But then creating another form for the high-school / high-school password selection. Ideally the controller would be able to get the params of the high-school form, validate those, then go on to create the user from the user params. Is this possible using rails? My setup: Rails 3 and Ruby 1.9.2dev Thank you!

  I have a custom Joomla component and a router for building my SEF URL's for use within the site, and everything is usually shiny - internally, all of my links look and act fantastic. I recently route a controller action that sends a list of links through email, and I've noticed that my URLs are coming out.... funky - hopefully someone can tell me why. Usually, my router generates an internal link that looks like this: http://localhost/Registry/calendar/265889635/Some-Long-Boring-Event However, when I send an email and preparing the same URL through the same router I get: http://localhost/Registry/Registry/component/calendar/569555803/Some-Long-Boring-Event Has anybody run into this issue before?

  I am new to iphone development. I have parsed a youtube file and displaying its contents with the image in the table view. But the scrolling has become slower because of displaying image.So i want to display the image as the lazy tables program from apple docs.Since they have used navigation based application , their rootviewcontroller loads first and then the delegate class call the parsing ,and when they reload the table view, the contents are displayed. The data array count shows 25. I am using a view controller to display the tables on the present modal view, more over when i run my application, first delegate methods call the parsing. So when i click the youtube icon in my landing page it navigates to table view. So by this time data array count shows 0. I have created table view in interface builder and set the outlets to the file owner properly. Please help me out. I want to increasing the scrolling performance. Thanks.

  I've begun diving into Django again and I'm having trouble finding the parallel to some common concepts from my life in C#. While using .NET MVC I very often find myself creating a base controller which will provide a base action implementation to take care of the type of stuff I want to do on every request, like retrieving user information, getting localization values. Where I'm finding myself confused is how to do this in Django. I am getting more familiar with the MVT concept but I can't seem to find how to solve this scenario. I've looked at class based views and the generic views yet they didn't seem to work how I expected. What am I missing? How can i create default logic that each view will be instructed to run but not have to write it in each view method?

  Hi, i have a 'User' model which has a has_many relationship to a 'Number' model through a join table 'user_number' model. I use accepts_nested_attributes_for :numbers, :allow_destroy = true in the 'User' model. Everything works fine except that whenever i delete a number from a user in the edit form, the associated number is deleted correctly in the 'number' table, but not the entry in the 'user_number' join table. In the update controller action i only use this: ... if @user.update_attributes(params[:user]) ... How can i force rails to also delete the associated entry in the join table?

  I would like to somehow apply a try catch statement to all Actions as a backstop for any uncaught exceptions. I think this would be particularly helpful for Ajax Actions, because the catch statement could send back a default 4xx status code. Prototype's onFailure() function could then do the client-side error handling. How can I do this without wrapping the Action call with a try/catch in the cake dispatcher like this: try { output = $controller->dispatchMethod($params['action'], $params['pass']); } catch {...} Does anybody have a suggestion or another workable strategy for gaining this functionality without touching the dispatcher? How do people feel about putting exception handling in the Displatcher? I imagine when cake drops php 4 support, there will be a built-in mechanism for this.

  Hi, I've just started a new project in ASP.net 4.0 with MVC 2. What I need to be able to do is have a custom hook at the start and end of each action of the controller. e.g. public void Index() { *** call to the start custom hook to externalfile.cs (is empty so does nothing) ViewData["welcomeMessage"] = "Hello World"; *** call to the end custom hook to externalfile.cs (changes "Hello World!" to "Hi World") return View(); } The View then see welcomeMessage as "Hi World" after being changed in the custom hook. The custom hook would need to be in an external file and not change the "core" compiled code. This causes a problem as with my limited knowledge ASP.net MVC has to be compiled. Does anyone have any advice on how this can be achieved? Thanks

  Hello, The question I'm asking is kind of subjective. I've seen twice, while exercising with real projects such as StoreFront, both Repository and Services. Sometimes they can just be folders or projects attached to the solution. But they contain classes and interfaces. So, I'd like to know what goes to the repository and what goes to the services. So far, I was familiar with repositories (we put methods and properties in the repository to reduce the complexity in the controller). How about the services? So, ASP.NET MVC: What's the difference in concept between Service and Repository? (Maybe none) My question is Kind of subjective, but I'd like to make sure that I'm not missing anything. • Override Devise Sign-in with reCaptcha

  I'm trying to override the Rails devise login to include recaptcha. I followed the steps here http://presentations.royvandewater.com/authentication-with-devise.html#8 however for some reason, authentication always fails. To isolate the problem, I removed all my code and called super directly class SessionsController < Devise::SessionsController def create super end end file is at: Rails.root/app/controllers/sessions_controller.rb the slide suggest Rails.root/app/controllers/sessions.rb but I assume that was just a mistake. Trying it out didn't help either. I even copied the full Sessions Controller code into my own, still gives the problem. Authentication fails here specifically: resource = warden.authenticate!(:scope => resource_name, :recall => "#{controller_path}#new") Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

• Rails flash hash violation of MVC?

  I know Rails' flash hash is nothing new, but I keep running into the same problem with it. Controllers should be for business logic and db queries, not formatting strings for display to the user. But the flash hash is always set in the controller. This means that I need to hack and work around Rails to use Helpers that I made to format strings for the flash hash. Is this just a pragmatic compromise to MVC or am I missing something here? How do you deal with this problem? Or do you not even see it as one?

• Android Stream Data Over Wifi?

  Im trying to make an app for android that will stream the data of the accelerometer to be used as a game controller on my pc over a local wifi connection. Is it possible to make some kind of wifi stream of the accelerometer values in the android app and then make the pc somehow 'read' this stream? Or would it just be better for the pc to make endless calls to the phone getting the newest accelerometer values from a local android server? It would also have to send commands from the phone such as 'button1 pressed', 'button1 released'.

  I'm trying to make a simple calculator application in cocoa. The program hangs when I click on one of my buttons. I think I've traced the problem to the part of my controller that adds a digit to the end of the number currently on the display: - (void)updateNumber:(int)buttonClicked{ *self.activeNumberPointer = *self.activeNumberPointer * 10 + buttonClicked; [outputField setFloatValue:*self.activeNumberPointer]; } I used a pointer to the "activeNumber" in order to allow my program to tell which of the two operands I'm editing.   Hi, I'm customizing my image picker controller and I want to have a full-screen viewfinder. I think this might be pretty an old topic and I found an answer here: http://www.gorbster.net/blog/archives/144 But what I want to know is if there's a way to achieve this without distorting the scale of the image. If I scale that clipped preview image, I'm distorting its original x-y ratio, and I want to avoid it. Is there a way to prevent the preview image from being clipped so that I could retain the original 1200x1600 ratio? Thanks!

• How do I verify the URL that ActiveResource intends to use on a call?

  Hi there, I'm trying to request data from another Rails app, but I keep getting a "URL not found" error. Is it possible to use the debugger to figure out the intended URL and parameters for an intended ActiveResource call? For example, I'd like to make a GET request with the following parameters: https://some_server.com/employees/search.xml?last_name=smith And I have the following ActiveResource model class Employee < ActiveResource::Base self.site = "https://.some_server.com" end And the some_server.com app has a search action that maps this way: map.connect "/employees/search.:format", :controller => 'employees', :action => 'search' But when I try this: Employee.new(:last_name => 'smith).get(:search) I get a 404 "Service not found" error. To me, that sounds like the URL that ACtiveResource is requesting is incorrect, 'cause when I make the above request via a browser, I get the xml. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Cheerio, Berns
