  • RSpec + Selenium tests for .NET on Windows

    - by John
    I'm a Rails developer doing TDD on a Mac with RSpec, Capybara and Selenium webdriver. Now I have been asked by my company to use this approach for a .NET on Windows environment. What is the best way of doing this? I could just install Ruby and use RSPEC, Capybara and Selenium webdriver for integration testing. But what about unit tests? I also looked at NSpec, but I'm not sure if I can combine that with Capybara or Selenium for integration tests. What would be a good approach here?

  • C++ segmentation error when first parameter is null in comparison operator overload

    - by user1774515
    I am writing a class called Word, that handles a c string and overloads the <, , <=, = operators. word.h: friend bool operator<(const Word &a, const Word &b); word.cc: bool operator<(const Word &a, const Word &b) { if(a == NULL && b == NULL) return false; if(a == NULL) return true; if(b == NULL) return false; return a.wd < b.wd; //wd is a valid c string } main: char* temp = NULL; //EDIT: i was mistaken, temp is a char pointer Word a("blah"); //a.wd = [b,l,a,h] cout << (temp<a); i get a segmentation error before the first line of the operator< method after the last line in the main. I can correct the problem by writing cout << (a>temp); where the operator> is similarly defined and i get no errors. but my assignment requires (temp < a) to work so this is where i ask for help. EDIT: i made a mistake the first time and i said temp was of type Word, but it is actually of type char*. so i assume that the compiler converts temp to a Word using one of my constructors. i dont know which one it would use and why this would work since the first parameter is not Word. here is the constructor i think is being used to make the Word using temp: Word::Word(char* c, char* delimeters=NULL) { char *temporary = "\0"; if(c == NULL) c = temporary; check(stoppers!=NULL, "(Word(char*,char*))NULL pointer"); //exits the program if the expression is false if(strlen(c) == 0) size = DEFAULT_SIZE; //10 else size = strlen(c) + 1 + DEFAULT_SIZE; wd = new char[size]; check(wd!=NULL, "Word(char*,char*))heap overflow"); delimiters = new char[strlen(stoppers) + 1]; //EDIT: changed to [] check(delimiters!=NULL,"Word(char*,char*))heap overflow"); strcpy(wd,c); strcpy(delimiters,stoppers); count = strlen(wd); } wd is of type char* thanks for looking at this big question and trying to help. let me know if you need more code to look at

  • NSString sizeWithAttributes: Inaccuracy

    - by dave-gennel
    I want to know the width of an NSString displayed on the screen in pixels. So I can fit an NSTextField its bounds to be exactly the length of the string itself. So I used IB's "Label" NSTextField and for those who don't know what I mean, I got a label with title "Label", font "Lucida Grande 13px", not selectable, not editable, regular size, no background and according to IB its width is 38px wide. If I want to get its width programatically I use [@"Label" sizeWithAttributes: [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObject: [NSFont fontWithName: @"Lucida Grande" size: 13] forKey: NSFontAttributeName]].width Which will give me 33.293457 . So that's about 5 px of the real width..

  • how to find which button has been clicked in app widgets in android?

    - by chrish
    I want to design simple app widget which has two textview and two button for previous/next. I am getting difficult to handle button click in app widget. Actually my desire is,if user click on previous button i want to show previous value and if user click on Next button i want to show next value from database. How to know which button is clicked? here i register button click listener like this public static class UpdateWidgetService extends IntentService { public UpdateWidgetService() { super("UpdateWidgetService"); } @Override protected void onHandleIntent(Intent intent) { AppWidgetManager appWidgetManager = AppWidgetManager .getInstance(this); int incomingAppWidgetId = intent.getIntExtra(EXTRA_APPWIDGET_ID, INVALID_APPWIDGET_ID); if (incomingAppWidgetId != INVALID_APPWIDGET_ID) { updateOneAppWidget(appWidgetManager, incomingAppWidgetId); } } private void updateOneAppWidget(AppWidgetManager appWidgetManager, int appWidgetId) { DatabaseManager dbManager = new DatabaseManager(this); dbManager.open(); String contactNumber, date, status, message; ArrayList<QueuedMessage> listOfQuedMessage = (ArrayList<QueuedMessage>) dbManager .fetchContactNumber(); if (listOfQuedMessage.size() == 0) Log.i("Db", "null"); else{ date = dbManager.fetchDate(); message = dbManager.fetchMessage(); status = dbManager.fetchStatus(); dbManager.closeDatabase(); RemoteViews views = new RemoteViews(this.getPackageName(), R.layout.schdulesms_appwidget_layout); views.setTextViewText(R.id.to_appwidget_saved_data, listOfQuedMessage.get(count).contacNumber); views.setTextViewText(R.id.date_appwidget_saved_data, date); views.setTextViewText(R.id.status_appwidget_saved, status); views.setTextViewText(R.id.message_appwidgset_saved_data, message); **//here i want do** if(button1){ btnNxtClick(views, appWidgetId,listOfQuedMessage.size()); }else{ btPrevClick(views, appWidgetId, listOfQuedMessage.size()); } appWidgetManager.updateAppWidget(appWidgetId, views); } } private void btnNxtClick(RemoteViews views, int appWidgetId,int sizeOfList) { Intent btnNextIntent = new Intent(this, this.getClass()); btnNextIntent.putExtra(EXTRA_APPWIDGET_ID, appWidgetId); PendingIntent btnNextPendingIntent = PendingIntent.getService(this, 0, btnNextIntent, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT); views.setOnClickPendingIntent(R.id.btnNext, btnNextPendingIntent); } private void btPrevClick(RemoteViews views, int appWidgetId,int sizeOfList) { Intent btnNextIntent = new Intent(this, this.getClass()); btnNextIntent.putExtra(EXTRA_APPWIDGET_ID, appWidgetId); PendingIntent btnNextPendingIntent = PendingIntent.getService(this, 0, btnNextIntent, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT); views.setOnClickPendingIntent(R.id.btnPrev, btnNextPendingIntent); } } can anyone help me out from this problem?? thanks

  • C++: Create abstract class with abstract method and override the method in a subclass

    - by Martijn Courteaux
    Hi, How to create in C++ an abstract class with some abstract methods that I want to override in a subclass? How should the .h file look? Is there a .cpp, if so how should it look? In Java it would look like this: abstract class GameObject { public abstract void update(); public abstract void paint(Graphics g); } class Player extends GameObject { @Override public void update() { // ... } @Override public void paint(Graphics g) { // ... } } // In my game loop: for (int i = 0; i < objects.size(); i++) { objects.get(i).update(); } for (int i = 0; i < objects.size(); i++) { objects.get(i).paint(g); } Translating this code to C++ is enough for me.

  • Is this BlockingQueue susceptible to deadlock?

    - by unforgiven3
    I've been using this code as a queue that blocks on Dequeue() until an element is enqueued. I've used this code for a few years now in several projects, all with no issues... until now. I'm seeing a deadlock in some code I'm writing now, and in investigating the problem, my 'eye of suspicion' has settled on this BlockingQueue<T>. I can't prove it, so I figured I'd ask some people smarter than me to review it for potential issues. Can you guys see anything that might cause a deadlock in this code? public class BlockingQueue<T> { private readonly Queue<T> _queue; private readonly ManualResetEvent _event; /// <summary> /// Constructor /// </summary> public BlockingQueue() { _queue = new Queue<T>(); _event = new ManualResetEvent(false); } /// <summary> /// Read-only property to get the size of the queue /// </summary> public int Size { get { int count; lock (_queue) { count = _queue.Count; } return count; } } /// <summary> /// Enqueues element on the queue /// </summary> /// <param name="element">Element to enqueue</param> public void Enqueue(T element) { lock (_queue) { _queue.Enqueue(element); _event.Set(); } } /// <summary> /// Dequeues an element from the queue /// </summary> /// <returns>Dequeued element</returns> public T Dequeue() { T element; while (true) { if (Size == 0) { _event.Reset(); _event.WaitOne(); } lock (_queue) { if (_queue.Count == 0) continue; element = _queue.Dequeue(); break; } } return element; } /// <summary> /// Clears the queue /// </summary> public void Clear() { lock (_queue) { _queue.Clear(); } } }

  • Efficient persistent storage for simple id to table of values map for java

    - by wds
    I need to store some data that follows the simple pattern of mapping an "id" to a full table (with multiple rows) of several columns (i.e. some integer values [u, v, w]). The size of one of these tables would be a couple of KB. Basically what I need is to store a persistent cache of some intermediary results. This could quite easily be implemented as simple sql, but there's a couple of problems, namely I need to compress the size of this structure on disk as much as possible. (because of amount of values I'm storing) Also, it's not transactional, I just need to write once and simply read the contents of the entire table, so a relational DB isn't actually a very good fit. I was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions? For some reason I can't seem to come up with something decent atm. Especially something with an API in java would be nice.

  • MySQL - Calculating fields on the fly vs storing calculated data

    - by Christian Varga
    Hi Everyone, I apologise if this has been asked before, but I can't seem to find an answer to a question that I have about calculating on the fly vs storing fields in a database. I read a few articles that suggested it was preferable to calculate when you can, but I would just like to know if that still applies to the following 2 examples. Example 1. Say you are storing data relating to a car. You store the fuel tank size in litres, and how many litres it uses per 100km. You also want to know how many KMs it can travel, which can be calculated from the tank size and economy. I see 2 ways of doing this: When a car is added or updated, calculate the amount of KMs and store this as a static field in the database. Every time a car is accessed, calculate the amount of KMs on the fly. Because the cars economy/tank size doesn't change (although it could be edited), the KMs is a pretty static value. I don't see why we would calculate it every single time the car is accessed. Wouldn't this waste cpu time as opposed to simply storing it in a separate field in the database and calculating only when a car is added or updated? My next example, which is almost an entirely different question (but on the same topic), relates to counting children. Let's say we have a app which has categories and items. We have a view where we display all the categories, and a count of all the items inside each category. Again, I'm wondering what's better. To perform a MySQL query to count all the items in each category every single time the page is accessed? Or store the count in a field in the categories table and update when an item is added / deleted? I know it is redundant to store anything that can be calculated, but I worry that calculating fields or counting records might be slow as opposed to storing the data in a field. If it's not then please let me know, I just want to learn about when to use either method. On a small scale I guess it wouldn't matter either way, but apps like Facebook, would they really count the amount of friends you have every time someone views your profile or would they just store it as a field? I'd appreciate any responses to both of these scenarios, and any resource that might explain the benefits of calculating vs storing. Thanks in advance, Christian

In both cases, if I inspect element, I can see the "shadow" of the full picture, at the right size, with the right url. Image source doesnt' seem to make a difference, I'm getting no errors, and this is happening in both chrome and firefox. Does anyone have any ideas?

  • Tag Cloud JS + Flash. Not clickable?

    - by Alex
    Hello all, I've implemented a tag cloud on a site of mine, and I'm using a JS script to populate it, but for some reason, the actual text in the tag cloud is not clickable. It displays and works correctly, but the actual text of the cloud is not getting treated as a link for some odd reason. My question is: In my script below, do you see anything that I need to fix in order to make my tag cloud's text actually be links? The site I've implemented it on is a stackexhange site that I run, it is supposed to be a cloud of the "recent tags." CloudPopulator.js <script type="text/javascript"> var divRecentTags = document.getElementById("recent-tags"); if (divRecentTags) { var cloud = new SWFObject("https://kynetx-images.s3.amazonaws.com/tagcloud.swf", "tagcloudflash", "200", "200", "9", "#ffffff"); cloud.addParam("allowScriptAccess", "always"); cloud.addVariable("tcolor", "0x0a94d6"); cloud.addVariable("tcolor2", "0xC0C0C0"); cloud.addVariable("hicolor", "0x000000"); cloud.addVariable("tspeed", "150"); cloud.addVariable("distr", "true"); cloud.addVariable("mode", "tags"); var aTags = divRecentTags.getElementsByTagName("a"); var tagHtml = ""; for(var i = 0; i < aTags.length; i++) { var hrefText = aTags[i].getAttribute("href"); var cssText = aTags[i].className; var tagName = $(aTags[i]).text(); var styleText = "style=\'font-size: 8pt;\'"; if (cssText == "post-tag pop1") { var styleText = "style=\'font-size: 15pt;\'"; } else if (cssText == "post-tag pop2") { var styleText = "style=\'font-size: 22pt;\'"; } var newLinkText = "<a href=\'"+hrefText+"\'"+styleText+">"+tagName+"</a>"; tagHtml = tagHtml + newLinkText; } cloud.addVariable("tagcloud", escape("<tags>" + tagHtml + "</tags>")); cloud.write("recent-tags"); }

  • Performance of Managed C++ Vs UnManaged/native C++

    - by bsobaid
    I am writing a very high performance application that handles and processes hundreds of events every millisecond. Is Unmanaged C++ faster than managed c++? and why? Managed C++ deals with CLR instead of OS and CLR takes care of memory management, which simplifies the code and is probably also more efficient than code written by "a programmer" in unmanaged C++? or there is some other reason? When using managed, how can one then avoid dynamic memory allocation, which causes a performance hit, if it is all transparent to the programmer and handled by CLR? So coming back to my question, Is managed C++ more efficient in terms of speed than unmanaged C++ and why?

  • Will the Global Demand for Water Outstrip the Supply by 2030?

    - by Evelyn Neumayr
    A recent study conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit and sponsored by Oracle Utilities, titled “Water for All?”,considers the preparedness of utilities to supply water to the current global population of over 7 billion people, with a further 1 billion expected by 2030. It compares strategies used by utilities in 10 major countries to address this challenge. This study’s findings show that wide-ranging water management efforts and large-scale investments must be made if utilities are to meet near-certain water stress—demand outstripping supply—by 2030. The report is based on an online survey of 244 executives of water utilities in these countries, supplemented by in-depth interviews with 20 water utility executives and independent experts. The research concludes that utilities worldwide expect to meet future demand, despite increased supply pressure on supplies, due to improvements in water productivity that the wide range of measures utilities and governments will take to ensure that water is used more efficiently. • Problem saving Text file in database using Hibernate

    - by Marquinio
    I'm having a problem saving large text files to MySQL database. If the text file size is around 5KB it successfully saves. If file is 148KB then I get this error from Hibernate: org.hibernate.exception.DataException: Could not execute JDBC batch update These is the SQL shows by Hibernate: Hibernate: insert into file_table (ID,FILE) values (?, ?) And in my hibernate file I'm using java.sql.Blob to store the file. Anyone knows why it fails to save a file size of 148KB but if I open that same file, cut it down to around 5KB, it will successfully save it? I thought the default limit was I think 2GB? This is weird. Thanks.

  • Circular movement - eliminating speed ups near Y = 0

    - by Fibericon
    I have a basic algorithm to rotate an enemy around a 200 unit radius circle with center 0. This is how I'm achieving that: if (position.Y <= 0 && position.X > -200) { position.X -= 2; position.Y = 0 - (float)Math.Sqrt((200 * 200) - (position.X * position.X)); } else { position.X += 2; position.Y = (float)Math.Sqrt((200 * 200) - (position.X * position.X)); } It does work, and I've ensured that at no point does either X or Y equal NaN. However, when Y approaches 0, it seems to go significantly faster. This surprises me, because the Y values are locked to the X, which is being incremented by a steady amount. What can I do to smooth the speed?

  • JNA array structure

    - by Burny
    I want to use a dll (IEC driver) in Java, for that I am using JNA. The problem in pseudo code: start the server allocate new memory for an array (JNA) client connect writing values from an array to the memory sending this array to the client client disconnect new client connect allocate new memory for an array (JNA) - JVM crash (EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION) The JVM crash not by primitve data types and if the values will not writing from the array to the memory. the code in c: struct DataAttributeData CrvPtsArrayDAData = {0}; CrvPtsArrayDAData.ucType = DATATYPE_ARRAY; CrvPtsArrayDAData.pvData = XYValDAData; XYValDAData[0].ucType = FLOAT; XYValDAData[0].uiBitLength = sizeof(Float32)*8; XYValDAData[0].pvData = &(inUpdateValue.xVal); XYValDAData[1].ucType = FLOAT; XYValDAData[1].uiBitLength = sizeof(Float32)*8; XYValDAData[1].pvData = &(inUpdateValue.yVal); Send(&CrvPtsArrayDAData, 1); the code in Java: DataAttributeData[] data_array = (DataAttributeData[]) new DataAttributeData() .toArray(d.bitLength); for (DataAttributeData d_temp : data_array) { d_temp.data = new Memory(size / 8); d_temp.type = type_iec; d_temp.bitLength = size; d_temp.write(); } d.data = data_array[0].getPointer(); And then writing values whith this code: for (int i = 0; i < arraySize; i++) { DataAttributeData dataAttr = new DataAttributeData(d.data.share(i * d.size())); dataAttr.read(); dataAttr.data.setFloat(0, f[i]); dataAttr.write(); } the struct in c: struct DataAttributeData{ unsigned char ucType; int iArrayIndex; unsigned int uiBitLength; void * pvData;}; the struct in java: public static class DataAttributeData extends Structure { public DataAttributeData(Pointer p) { // TODO Auto-generated constructor stub super(p); } public DataAttributeData() { // TODO Auto-generated constructor stub super(); } public byte type; public int iArrayIndex; public int bitLength; public Pointer data; @Override protected List<String> getFieldOrder() { // TODO Auto-generated method stub return Arrays.asList(new String[] { "type", "iArrayIndex", "bitLength", "data" }); } } Can anybody help me?

  • Custom cell and Delete/Move indicators

    - by Kamchatka
    Hello, I have a custom UITableViewCell. However, when I got in edit mode, I don't have any Delete and Move indicators appearing. The custom cell draws itself in the contentView. In layoutSubviews, I make sure there is space on the left and one the right of the contentView so that the controls can appear (if this was the problem). - (void)layoutSubviews { self.contentView.frame = CGRectMake(50, 0, self.frame.size.width - 100, sub.thumbnail.size.height + 20); } In the UITableViewController, I return YES in: - (BOOL)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView canMoveRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { How could I solve this lack of interactivity. Is there something specific for custom cells? Thanks!

  • Design Patterns - Service Layer

    - by garfbradaz
    I currently reading a lot about Design Patterns and I have been watching various Pluralsight videos from their library. Now so far I have learnt the following: Repository Pattern Unit of Work Pattern Abstract Factory Pattern Reading the awesome "DI in .NET" book Now I read lot about Services and Service Layers and wanted some advice about the best place to read up and learn about these. I presume this fits into Domain Driven Design and I should start there? The term "Service" just seem to be used widely within IT and it can be confusing the exact meaning. So my questions is: What is the Service Layer Where is the best place to learn about them. I know there are probably tonnes of interweb/books/blogs on the subject, but some good areas to start from would be nice. If I'm being too vague, let me know.
