    I am trying to override rubies <= (spaceship) operator to sort apples and oranges so that apples come first sorted by weight, and oranges second, sorted by sweetness.   • ActiveRecord field normalization

    I feel bad asking this question, as I thought I knew enough about Activerecord to answer this myslef. But such is the way of having SO available ... I'm trying to remove the commas from a field in a model of mine, I want the user to be able to type a number , ie 10,000 and that number be stored in the database as 10000. I was hoping that I could do some model-side normalization to remove the comma. I don't want to depend on the view or controller to properly format my data. I tried ; before_validation :normalize def normalize self['thenumber'] = self['thenumber'].to_s.gsub(',','') end no worky :(

  • Accessing Element Count and Values Within a Hidden Div

    I'm having trouble grabbing the TR count in JQuery of a table that inside a DIV set to be hidden. Here is an example: <div id="questions" style="display: none;"> <table id="tbl_questions"> <thead> <tr> <th>Question</th> <th>Weight</th> </tr> </thead> <tbody> <tr id="q0"> <td id="td_question0">Some Question 0</td> <td id="td_wieght0">Some Weight 0</td> </tr> <tr id="q1"> <td id="td_question1">Some Question 1</td> <td id="td_wieght1">Some Weight 1</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> </div> Note the table is within the containing div. It's set to display: none. When I try to run this JQuery code it returns 0. var question_count = $("#tbl_questions> tr").size(); alert(question_count); Any ideas? I'm try to locate the count so I can then build an array of each question and weight in the table. Since the ID's provide me with an index this should be simple, but is the fact that it is contained in a hidden DIV going to be a problem just as the above question? Thanks, Tegan Snyder

In controller: before_filter :authorize ... def authorize if some_condition @default_scope_conditions = something elsif another_condition @default_scope_conditions = something_else end end Inside the ActiveRecord default_scope :conditions => @default_scope_conditions But it doesn't seem to work, the before filter gets called but the default_scope doesn't get set. Could you please advise me what I'm doing wrong and how to fix it or suggest me some other way of achieving that.

  • jQuery.param() - doesn't serialize javascript Date objects?

    jQuery.param({foo: 1}); // => "foo=1" - SUCCESS! jQuery.param({bar: new Date()}); // => "" - OUCH! There is no problem with encodeURIComponent(new Date()), which is what I would have thought param is calling for each member. Also, explicitly using "traditional" param (e.g. jQuery.param(xxx, true)) DOES serialize the date, but alas, that isn't of much help since my data structure isn't flat. Is this because typeof(Date) == "object" and param tries to descend into it to find scalar values? How might one realistically serialize an object that happens to have Date's in it for $.post() etc.?

  • Why is YAML installing to my home directory instead of its proper directory?

    I keep getting the following error when installing Ruby 1.9.3-p125: It seems your ruby installation is missing psych (for YAML output). To eliminate this warning, please install libyaml and reinstall your ruby. I've tried installing LibYAML and for some reason it's installing in my home directory on OS X Lion where the Documents, Music, Pictures, etc. folders are. Any idea how I can get rid of this error, properly install YAML and never have to deal with this again?

  • How do I find the .max of an attribute value among a group of different Models?

    Hi, everyone: I am also open to just straight-up refactoring what I'm finding to be pretty repetitive, but to give a baseline of how it's working.... I have for every contact a Campaign, which has_many of three types of Models: Email, Call, and Letter. When an Email (Call or Letter) has been executed for a specific contact, I have a Contact_Email(_or_Call_or_Letter) which belongs to both the Contact and the Model (Email_or_Call_or_Letter). Each Contact_Email for example pairing has a :date_sent attribute. So does each Contact_Call and Contact_Letter. How do I find the latest of all of them? Here is the code I wrote that can find the latest Email and my finding retyping similar code for Call and Letter, but then stuck on how to do a .max on all of them: def last_email(contact) #get campaign the contact belongs to @campaign = Campaign.find_by_id(contact.campaign_id) @last_email = ContactEmail.find(:last, :conditions => "contact_id = #{contact.id}", :order => "date_sent DESC") @last_call = ContactCall.find(:last, :conditions => "contact_id = #{contact.id}", :order => "date_sent DESC") @last_letter = ContactLetter.find(:last, :conditions => "contact_id = #{contact.id}", :order => "date_sent DESC") # how do I get the latest of all of these to display? if @last_sent_email.nil? return "no email sent" else return @last_sent_email.date_sent end end Question 1: With what I have, how can I find effectively @last_event given I can find the last Email, last Call, and last Letter for every contact?     Hey guys, the scenario is this: see select below <form name="limit"> <select name="limiter" onChange="limit(this.value)"> <option selected="selected">&nbsp;</option> <option value="5">5</option> <option value="10">10</option> <option value="15">15</option> </select> </form> I want whenever any option is selected for 3 things to happen: 1.) js limit() function is called which all it does its takes current url, adds new query parameter 'limit' with the user selected value eg: http://localhost/blahblah/apps/category.php?pg=1&catId=3021&limit=5 (this will cause the category.php page to be hit and # of product displayed limited to the value selected by user) 2.)Once the url is hit, it reloads but i DONT want the value selected to reset back to the default (which it currently does). I want it to reflect the users selection after page reload. 3.) Also, when i move to the next page (pagination), i would like the state to be carried ova to the next page (ie. remembering the user selection).

  • jquery load php file - result is not complete

    I'm trying to load or better reload a DIV with content from an included php file. so the file is included in the webadmin.php from the location webadmin/pages.php. Then i alter some data in the DB through serializing. Now I would like to reload the pages.php from the callback of the serialize POST with load();. This all works fine up until the moment the data is supposed to be displayed in the div - i believe its because the php file is loaded from a different location, so the include paths for the DB Connection etc are probably wrong... Should I really write an extra PHP File for jquery or is there a way to tell jquery where to load it from? Its the first time I'm doing this - so bear with me for a moment on this one... Thanks!   • How to always return a set number of records when using find_related_tags with acts-as-taggable-on

    I'm using the acts-as-taggable-on gem and I need to use find_related_tags on my survey model to get back 3 surveys every time. In the event there aren't always 3 related I need to pick how ever many are related plus some random ones to get to 3. Additionally I have a method I wrote called completed_survey_ids which return an array of survey_ids that shouldn't be used because the user has already completed them. Also there is a rare case that there won't be enough surveys because the user has completed them all so in that event it is okay to return less surveys then requested. I did write a named_scope to handle getting rid of the completed_survey_ids that I think works named_scope :not, lambda { |survey_ids| {:conditions => "id NOT IN (#{survey_ids.join(',')})" } }

  • Create calendardateselect from javascript

    Not sure why I can't figure this out. When a user makes a selection, a javascript method is called, at which point I want to add a calendardateselect to an existing div tag from the javascript. According to the docs, it seems like this should work: var a = new CalendarDateSelect( document.getElementById("date_area"), {embedded:true, year_range:10} ); $('date_area').insert(a); ... or maybe this.... var newScript = document.createElement('script'); newScript.type = 'text/javascript'; var tn = document.createTextNode("new CalendarDateSelect( $(this).previous() )"); newScript.appendChild(tn); $('date_area').insert(newScript); http://code.google.com/p/calendardateselect/wiki/JavascriptDocumentation But neither of them are working.
