  • Do Django Models inherit managers? (Mine seem not to)

    - by Zach
    I have 2 models: class A(Model): #Some Fields objects = ClassAManager() class B(A): #Some B-specific fields I would expect B.objects to give me access to an instance of ClassAManager, but this is not the case.... >>> A.objects <app.managers.ClassAManager object at 0x103f8f290> >>> B.objects <django.db.models.manager.Manager object at 0x103f94790> Why doesn't B inherit the objects attribute from A?

  • JSON parsing using JSON.net

    - by vbNewbie
    I am accessing the facebook api and using the json.net library (newtonsoft.json.net) I declare a Jobject to parse the content and look for the specific elements and get their values. Everything works fine for the first few but then I get this unexplained nullexception error " (Object reference not set to an instance of an object) Now I took a look at the declaration but cannot see how to change it. Any help appreciated: Dim jobj as JObject = JObject.Parse(responseData) Dim message as string = string.empty message = jobj("message").tostring The error occurs at the last line above.

  • Few doubts regarding Bitmaps , Images & `using` blocks

    - by imageWorker
    I caught up in this problem. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2559826/garbage-collector-not-doing-its-job-memory-consumption-1-5gb-outofmemory-exc I feel that there is something wrong in my understanding. Please clarify these things. Destructor & IDisposable.Dispose are two methods for freeing resources that are not not under the control of .NET. Which means, everything except memory. right? using blocks are just better way of calling IDisposable.Dispose() method of an object. This is the main code I'm referring to. class someclass { static someMethod(Bitmap img) { Bitmap bmp = new Bitmap(img); //statement1 // some code here and return } } here is class I'm using for testing: class someotherClass { public static voide Main() { foreach (string imagePath in imagePathsArray) { using (Bitmap img1 = new Bitmap(imagePath)) { someclass.someMethod(img1); // does some more processing on `img1` } } } } Is there any memory leak with statement1? Question1: If each image size is say 10MB. Then does this bmp object occupy atleast 10MB? What I mean is, will it make completely new copy of entire image? or just refer to it? Question2:should I or should I not put the statement1 in using block? My Argument: We should not. Because using is not for freeing memory but for freeing the resources (file handle in this case). If I use it in using block. It closes file handle here encapsulated by this bmp object. It means we are also closing filehandle for the caller's img1 object. Which is not correct? As of the memory leak. No there is no scope of memory leak here. Because reference bmp is destroyed when this method is returned. Which leaves memory it refered without any pointer. So, its garbage collected. Am I right? Edit: class someclass { static Bitmap someMethod(Bitmap img) { Bitmap bmp = new Bitmap(img); //can I use `using` block on this enclosing `return bmp`; ??? // do some processing on bmp here return bmp; } }

  • Remove a layer from a ggplot2 chart

    - by Erik Shilts
    I'd like to remove a layer (in this case the results of geom_ribbon) from a ggplot2 created grid object. Is there a way I can remove it once it's already part of the object? library(ggplot2) dat <- data.frame(x=1:3, y=1:3, ymin=0:2, ymax=2:4) p <- ggplot(dat, aes(x=x, y=y)) + geom_ribbon(aes(ymin=ymin, ymax=ymax), alpha=0.3) + geom_line() # This has the geom_ribbon p # This overlays another ribbon on top p + geom_ribbon(aes(ymin=ymin, ymax=ymax, fill=NA))

  • What to name 2 methods with same signatures

    - by coffeeaddict
    Initially I had a method in our DL that would take in the object it's updating like so: internal void UpdateCash(Cash Cash) { using (OurCustomDbConnection conn = CreateConnection("UpdateCash")) { conn.CommandText = @"update Cash set captureID = @captureID, ac_code = @acCode, captureDate = @captureDate, errmsg = @errorMessage, isDebit = @isDebit, SourceInfoID = @sourceInfoID, PayPalTransactionInfoID = @payPalTransactionInfoID, CreditCardTransactionInfoID = @CreditCardTransactionInfoID where id = @cashID"; conn.AddParam("@captureID", cash.CaptureID); conn.AddParam("@acCode", cash.ActionCode); conn.AddParam("@captureDate", cash.CaptureDate); conn.AddParam("@errorMessage", cash.ErrorMessage); conn.AddParam("@isDebit", cyberCash.IsDebit); conn.AddParam("@PayPalTransactionInfoID", cash.PayPalTransactionInfoID); conn.AddParam("@CreditCardTransactionInfoID", cash.CreditCardTransactionInfoID); conn.AddParam("@sourceInfoID", cash.SourceInfoID); conn.AddParam("@cashID", cash.Id); conn.ExecuteNonQuery(); } } My boss felt that creating an object every time just to update one or two fields is overkill. But I had a couple places in code using this. He recommended using just UpdateCash and sending in the ID for CAsh and field I want to update. Well the problem is I have 2 places in code using my original method. And those 2 places are updating 2 completely different fields in the Cash table. Before I was just able to get the existing Cash record and shove it into a Cash object, then update the properties I wanted to be updated in the DB, then send back the cash object to my method above. I need some advice on what to do here. I have 2 methods and they have the same signature. I'm not quite sure what to rename these because both are updating 2 completely different fields in the Cash table: internal void UpdateCash(int cashID, int paypalCaptureID) { using (OurCustomDbConnection conn = CreateConnection("UpdateCash")) { conn.CommandText = @"update Cash set CaptureID = @paypalCaptureID where id = @cashID"; conn.AddParam("@captureID", paypalCaptureID); conn.ExecuteNonQuery(); } } internal void UpdateCash(int cashID, int PayPalTransactionInfoID) { using (OurCustomDbConnection conn = CreateConnection("UpdateCash")) { conn.CommandText = @"update Cash set PaymentSourceID = @PayPalTransactionInfoID where id = @cashID"; conn.AddParam("@PayPalTransactionInfoID", PayPalTransactionInfoID); conn.ExecuteNonQuery(); } } So I thought hmm, maybe change the names to these so that they are now unique and somewhat explain what field its updating: UpdateCashOrderID UpdateCashTransactionInfoID ok but that's not really very good names. And I can't go too generic, for example: UpdateCashTransaction(int cashID, paypalTransactionID) What if we have different types of transactionIDs that the cash record holds besides just the paypalTransactionInfoID? such as the creditCardInfoID? Then what? Transaction doesn't tell me what kind. And furthermore what if you're updating 2 fields so you have 2 params next to the cashID param: UpdateCashTransaction(int cashID, paypalTransactionID, someOtherFieldIWantToUpdate) see my frustration? what's the best way to handle this is my boss doesn't like my first route?

  • Activity gets killed while executing the camera intent

    - by BlackRider
    In my app I call the system camera to take a picture, and then handle the result in onActivityResult. You know, the usual. It used to work, but now my calling activity gets killed while I'm taking the picture. Specifically, onDestroy() is called on my activity right after I press the camera shutter. The photo does get taken & saved (I've checked that the file gets written on the SD card). After I accept the photo, instead of returning to the calling activity and invoking onActivityResult, the previous activity in the activity stack gets called. I see no exceptions in the logcat. My custom exception handler doesn't get called. If it matters, my app also includes a service that listens to GPS updates, but I unregister all the receivers in onPause(). Here's the call stack for MyCallingActivity.onDestroy(): Thread [<1> main] (Suspended (breakpoint at line 303 in NewPlaceDetailsActivity)) NewPlaceDetailsActivity.onDestroy() line: 303 ActivityThread.performDestroyActivity(IBinder, boolean, int, boolean) line: 2663 ActivityThread.handleDestroyActivity(IBinder, boolean, int, boolean) line: 2694 ActivityThread.access$2100(ActivityThread, IBinder, boolean, int, boolean) line: 117 BinderProxy(ActivityThread$H).handleMessage(Message) line: 968 ActivityThread$H(Handler).dispatchMessage(Message) line: 99 Looper.loop() line: 130 ActivityThread.main(String[]) line: 3687 Method.invokeNative(Object, Object[], Class, Class[], Class, int, boolean) line: not available [native method] Method.invoke(Object, Object...) line: 507 ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run() line: 842 ZygoteInit.main(String[]) line: 600 NativeStart.main(String[]) line: not available [native method] This is how I start the camera activity, in case you're wondering: protected void startCamera() { createPhotoDirsIfNeeded(); String fileName = "temp.jpg"; ContentValues values = new ContentValues(); values.put(MediaStore.Images.Media.TITLE, fileName); m_capturedImageUri = getContentResolver().insert(MediaStore.Images.Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI, values); m_photoFileName = APP_PHOTO_PATH + "/" + DateFormat.format(DATE_FORMAT, Calendar.getInstance().getTime()) + ".jpg"; File picFile = new File(m_photoFileName); if(picFile.exists()) { picFile.delete(); } // start the camera activity Intent intent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE); intent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, Uri.fromFile(picFile)); startActivityForResult(intent, IntentHelper.REQUEST_TAKE_PHOTO); } How can I find out why does my activity get killed, AND removed from the stack instead of being created again?

  • Axis Rotation Question

    - by Leo
    By using left hand rule, I rotate one object left and right using y axis, and rotate up/down using x axis. After first object is rotated to the right, the up/down rotation should be using z axis. However, when I try to rotate using z axis, after the first rotation, it has the same effect when I rotate using y axis. Anyone has any ideas? Thanks

  • Missing parameter error after running MySql query

    - by annelie
    Hello, I'm completely new to MySql and haven't used SqlDataSource with UpdateParameters before, so I'm probably missing something very obvious. When trying to update a record, the update does happen but then throws an error saying "'id' parameter is missing at the statement". So the query works and the database gets updated as it should, but an error is thrown afterwards. These are the update parameters: <UpdateParameters> <asp:Parameter Name="business_name" Type="string" Size="256" /> <asp:Parameter Name="addr_line_1" Type="string" Size="256" /> <asp:Parameter Name="addr_line_2" Type="string" Size="256" /> <asp:Parameter Name="addr_line_3" Type="string" Size="256" /> <asp:Parameter Name="postcode" Type="string" Size="32" /> <asp:Parameter Name="county" Type="string" Size="128" /> <asp:Parameter Name="town_city" Type="string" Size="256" /> <asp:Parameter Name="tl_url" Type="string" Size="256" /> <asp:Parameter Name="customer_id" Type="string" Size="16" /> <asp:Parameter Name="region_id" Type="Int16" /> <asp:Parameter Name="description" Type="string" Size="1024" /> <asp:Parameter Name="approval_status" Type="string" Size="1" /> <asp:Parameter Name="tl_user_name" Type="string" Size="256" /> <asp:Parameter Name="phone" Type="string" Size="50" /> <asp:Parameter Name="uploaders_own" Type="Int16" /> </UpdateParameters> Here's the update statement: UPDATE myTable SET business_name = ?, addr_line_1 = ?, addr_line_2 = ?, addr_line_3 = ?, postcode = ?, county = ?, town_city = ?, tl_url = ?, customer_id = ?, region_id = ?, description = ?, approval_status = ?, tl_user_name = ?, phone = ?, uploaders_own = ?   • What is the difference between using IDisposable vs a destructor in C#?

    - by j0rd4n
    When would I implement IDispose on a class as opposed to a destructor? I read this article, but I'm still missing the point. My assumption is that if I implement IDispose on an object, I can explicitly 'destruct' it as opposed to waiting for the garbage collector to do it. Is this correct? Does that mean I should always explicitly call Dispose on an object? What are some common examples of this?

  • c# event fires windows form incorrectly

    - by MikeW
    I'm trying to understand what's happening here. I have a CheckedListBox which contains some ticked and some un-ticked items. I'm trying to find a way of determining the delta in the selection of controls. I've tried some cumbersome like this - but only works part of the time, I'm sure there's a more elegant solution. A maybe related problem is the myCheckBox_ItemCheck event fires on form load - before I have a chance to perform an ItemCheck. Here's what I have so far: void clbProgs_ItemCheck(object sender, ItemCheckEventArgs e) { // i know its awful System.Windows.Forms.CheckedListBox cb = (System.Windows.Forms.CheckedListBox)sender; string sCurrent = e.CurrentValue.ToString(); int sIndex = e.Index; AbstractLink lk = (AbstractLink)cb.Items[sIndex]; List<ILink> _links = clbProgs.DataSource as List<ILink>; foreach (AbstractLink lkCurrent in _links) { if (!lkCurrent.IsActive) { if (!_groupValues.ContainsKey(lkCurrent.Linkid)) { _groupValues.Add(lkCurrent.Linkid, lkCurrent); } } } if (_groupValues.ContainsKey(lk.Linkid)) { AbstractLink lkDirty = (AbstractLink)lk.Clone(); CheckState newValue = (CheckState)e.NewValue; if (newValue == CheckState.Checked) { lkDirty.IsActive = true; } else if (newValue == CheckState.Unchecked) { lkDirty.IsActive = false; } if (_dirtyGroups.ContainsKey(lk.Linkid)) { _dirtyGroups[lk.Linkid] = lkDirty; } else { CheckState oldValue = (CheckState)e.NewValue; if (oldValue == CheckState.Checked) { lkDirty.IsActive = true; } else if (oldValue == CheckState.Unchecked) { lkDirty.IsActive = false; } _dirtyGroups.Add(lk.Linkid, lk); } } else { if (!lk.IsActive) { _dirtyGroups.Add(lk.Linkid, lk); } else { _groupValues.Add(lk.Linkid, lk); } } } Then onclick of a save button - I check whats changed before sending to database: private void btSave_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { List<AbstractLink> originalList = new List<AbstractLink>(_groupValues.Values); List<AbstractLink> changedList = new List<AbstractLink>(_dirtyGroups.Values); IEnumerable<AbstractLink> dupes = originalList.ToArray<AbstractLink>().Intersect(changedList.ToArray<AbstractLink>()); foreach (ILink t in dupes) { MessageBox.Show("Changed"); } if (dupes.Count() == 0) { MessageBox.Show("No Change"); } } For further info. The definition of type AbstractLink uses: public bool Equals(ILink other) { if (Object.ReferenceEquals(other, null)) return false; if (Object.ReferenceEquals(this, other)) return true; return IsActive.Equals(other.IsActive) && Linkid.Equals(other.Linkid); }
