• Running Hadoop example in psuedo-distributed mode on vm

  I have set-up Hadoop on a OpenSuse 11.2 VM using Virtualbox.I have made the prerequisite configs. I ran this example in the Standalone mode successfully. • Combine 3 select fields and validate as one in my User model in ruby on rails 3

  Ok I have 3 select boxes for selecting date of birth. I have constants setup in my User model to provide months, years etc.. Anyway I can successfully validate these select boxes separately. What I want to do is combine the :day, :month and :year and store in :birthday and validate the whole date as one so I can return 1 error rather than 3 separate ones. Also doing this will make it easier to store the validated date in my birthday field in my database.   Is it possible to use CPP extension on Haskell code which contains multiline string literals? Are there other conditional compilation techniques for Haskell? For example, let's take this code: -- If the next line is uncommented, the program does not compile. -- {-# LANGUAGE CPP #-} msg = "Hello\ \ Wor\ \ld!" main = putStrLn msg If I uncomment {-# LANGUAGE CPP #-}, then GHC refutes this code with a lexical error: [1 of 1] Compiling Main ( cpp-multiline.hs, cpp-multiline.o ) cpp-multiline.hs:4:17: lexical error in string/character literal at character 'o' Using GHC 6.12.1, cpphs is available. I confirm that using cpphs.compat wrapper and -pgmP cpphs.compat option helps, but I'd like to have a solution which does not depend on custom shell scripts. -pgmP cpphs does not work. P.S. I need to use different code for GHC < 6.12 and GHC = 6.12, is it possible without preprocessor?

• Getting text between quotes using regular expression

  I'm having some issues with a regular expression I'm creating. I need a regex to match against the following examples and then sub match on the first quoted string: Input strings ("Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.") ('Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. ') ('Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. ', 'arg1', "arg2") Must sub match Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Regex so far: \((["'])([^"']+)\1,?.*\) The regex does a sub match on the text between the first set of quotes and returns the sub match displayed above. This is almost working perfectly, but the problem I have is that if the quoted string contains quotes in the text the sub match stops at the first instance, see below: Failing input strings ("Lorem ipsum dolor \"sit\" amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.") Only sub matches: Lorem ipsum dolor ("Lorem ipsum dolor 'sit' amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.") The entire match fails. Notes The input strings are actually php code function calls. I'm writing a script that will scan .php source files for a specific function and grab the text from the first parameter.

You need to write a program that calculates the N th number in this array based on the given first element A[1] . INPUT: In one line of standard input there are two numbers seperated with a single space: A[1] (1 <= A[1] <= 100) and N (1 <= N <= 10000). OUTPUT: The standard output should only contain a single integer A[N] , the Nth number of the defined sequence. Input: 7 4 Output: 79 Explanation: Elements of the array are as follows: 7, 19, 49, 79... and the 4th element is solution. I tried solving this by coding a separate function that for a given number A[k] calculates the sum of it's digits and finds the smallest number greater than A[k-1] as it says in the problem, but with no success. The first testing failed because of a memory limit, the second testing failed because of a time limit, and now i don't have any possible idea how to solve this. One friend suggested recursion, but i don't know how to set that. Anyone who can help me in any way please write, also suggest some ideas about using recursion/DP for solving this problem. Thanks.

I think it's a cool idea, but I have trouble thinking of things they can do besides make a class based on an object's attributes/database schema (as described in The Pragmatic Programmer).   Hello, I’m dealing with localization of a WPF application (Visual Studio 2010 under Windows 7). I’ve just accomplished the whole process of localization using LocBaml tool, as explained in WPF Globalization and Localization Overview and in related posts. The target language is Italian (it-IT culture). When I run my application in Italian, I have a problem with interpretation of the special symbols of © and ™: they both appear there as a white question sign upon a black diamond-shaped background. The symbols © and ™ appear identically in both English and Italian CSV-files. I tried also the special letters (such as È, à etc.) that are present in Italian but absent in English, and they also are interpreted as the above diamond-shaped question. In Region and Language, I changed the system locale to Italian[Italy], restarted the PC and ran the application again – this helped me in the past to cope with a similar problem in localization of C++ applications under Windows XP, but now it didn’t help, either. Has somebody any idea what is the catch here?

Over the last several years C# has extended it's general purpose features by introducing more and more functional language features: LINQ (list comprehension), Lamdas, Closures, Anonymous Delegates and more... Given C#'s adoption of these functional features and F#'s taxonomy as an impure functional language (it allows YOU to access framework libraries or change shared state when a function is called if you want to) there is a strong similarity between the two languages although each has it's own polar opposite primary emphasis. I'm interested in any successful models employing these two languages in your production polyglot programs and also the areas within production software (web apps, client apps, server apps) you have written in F# in the past year or so that you would previously have written in C#. The program typically 'query' the judge program a certain number of times, then output a final answer. An example The client program accepts lines one by one, and simply echoes it back. When it encountered a line with "done", it exists immediately. Rather I am looking for support of the "basics" that are common for web sites. • Correctly use dependency injection

  Me and two other colleagues are trying to understand how to best design a program. For example, I have an interface ISoda and multiple classes that implement that interface like Coke, Pepsi, DrPepper, etc.... My colleague is saying that it's best to put these items into a database like a key/value pair. For example: Key | Name -------------------------------------- Coke | my.namespace.Coke, MyAssembly Pepsi | my.namespace.Pepsi, MyAssembly DrPepper | my.namespace.DrPepper, MyAssembly ... then have XML configuration files that map the input to the correct key, query the database for the key, then create the object. I don't have any specific reasons, but I just feel that this is a bad design, but I don't know what to say or how to correctly argue against it. My second colleague is suggesting that we micro-manage each of these classes. So basically the input would go through a switch statement, something similiar to this: ISoda soda; switch (input) { case "Coke": soda = new Coke(); break; case "Pepsi": soda = new Pepsi(); break; case "DrPepper": soda = new DrPepper(); break; } This seems a little better to me, but I still think there is a better way to do it. I've been reading up on IoC containers the last few days and it seems like a good solution. However, I'm still very new to dependency injection and IoC containers, so I don't know how to correctly argue for it. Or maybe I'm the wrong one and there's a better way to do it? If so, can someone suggest a better method? What kind of arguments can I bring to the table to convince my colleagues to try another method? What are the pros/cons? Why should we do it one way? Unfortunately, my colleagues are very resistant to change so I'm trying to figure out how I can convince them.

What I am trying to do is to parse the python script file from the C/C++ program, break the file to "blocks" so that each "block" is an a valid command in python code. Each block I need to put into std::string. What is the best way to do this, is there any Python C/C++ API function that supports this? why i need it - for GUI purpose. My program , which is writen in C, uses python to make some calculations. I run from C code , using python C API , python script and what i need is a way to capture python's output in my program. I catch it and evrything is ok, the problem is when the script involves user input. What happens is that i capture python's output after the script is finished , therefore, when there is an input command in the script i get a black screen .... i need to get all the printings before the input command. The first solution i tried is to parss the script to valid commands and run each comand, one after the other , seperatly .... for this i need to pars the script and deside what is a command and what is not ... The question is : what is the best way to do this and if there is somthing that allready does ?

  I have a form on which I use validation. This form has a section for photo upload. My guess is this Submit event bubbles up to the outer form As we have validation on that form, validation is triggered, Validation tries to find the form triggering it, Since we have not bound validation to the inner form it returns 'undefined' Now, is my assessment correct? Whether it is or not, how can I solve this issue?

• In which order is model binding and validation done in ASP.NET MVC 2?

  I am using ASP.NET MVC 2, and am using a view-model per view approach. I am also using Automapper to map properties from my domain-model to the view-model. Take this example view-model (with Required data annotation attributes for validation purposes): public class BlogPost_ViewModel { public int Id { get; set; } [Required] public string Title { get; set; } [Required] public string Text { get; set; } } In the post editor view I am using a rich text editor (CKeditor). Because CKeditor is a HTML editor, I ideally need CKeditor to HTMLencode the user's input when the form is submitted, so that ASP.NET's input validation does not complain. This is not a problem as CKeditor has this functionality built in, however I need CKeditor's output decoded before mapping back to the domain object (via Automapper). I am wanting to add a new property (to the view-model above) to solve this, as follows: public string HTMLEncodedText { get { return HTMLEncode(Text); } set { Text = HTMLDecode(value); } } I can then bind this property to CKeditor in the view, but still use Automapper to map the 'Text' property in the controller - all without having to turn input-validation off. My question is: do you know how the model binding and validation process in ASP.NET MVC 2 works? Are all model properties binded before validation is carried out? Or is each individual property get validated when it is being set. I think ideally for my idea to work, all properties need to be set before the model is validated.

• Hadoop or Hadoop Streaming for MapReduce on AWS

  I'm about to start a mapreduce project which will run on AWS and I am presented with a choice, to either use Java or C++. I understand that writing the project in Java would make more functionality available to me, however C++ could pull it off too, through Hadoop Streaming. Mind you, I have little background in either language. A similar project has been done in C++ and the code is available to me. So my question: is this extra functionality available through AWS or is it only relevant if you have more control over the cloud? Is there anything else I should bear in mind in order to make a decision, like availability of plugins for hadoop that work better with one language or the other? Thanks in advance
