  Hello everyone! I'm trying to make a program that solves the logic wheels puzzle. I construct the root node and I try to produce the different child-nodes that are produced by making different moves of the wheels. The problem is that while I try to produce the children, the root node is overwrited,and everything is messed-up and I really don't know why. Here you can find the puzzle logic wheels. I represent the wheels as 3x3 arrays. • How to start with entity framework and service oriented architecture?

  At work I need to create a new web application, that will connection to an MySql Database. (So far I only have expercience with Linq-To-Sql classes and MSSQL Servers.) My superior tells me to use the entity framework (he probably refers to Linq-To-Entity) and provide everything as a service based architecture. Unfortunatly nobody at work has experience with that framework and with a real nice server oriented architecture. (till now no customer wanted to pay for architecture that he can't see. This speficic project I'm leading will be long-term, meaning multiple years, so it would be best to design it the way, that multiple targetting plattforms like asp.net, c# wpf, ... could use it) For now, the main target plattform is ASP.net So I do have the following questions: 1) Where can I read best what's really behind service oriented architecture (but for now beginner tutorials work fine as well) and how to do it in best practise? 2) So far I can't seem a real difference between Linq-To-Sql classes and the information I've google so far on the 'entity framework'. So, whats the difference? Where do I find nice tutorials for it. 3) Is there any difference in the entity framework regarding the database server (MSSQL or MySQL). If not, does that mean that code snipperts I will stumble across will word database independent? 4) I do you Visual Studio 2010. Do I have to regard something specific?

  I am planning on writing a hierarchical organizational control, similar to an org chart. Several org chart implementations are out there, but not quite fit what I have in mind. Binding fields in a DataTemplate to a custom object does not seem to work. But after submission it reloads the current page as mentioned in the form action. But when I refresh the page to see the comment being added it asks to re submit. If I hit submit then the comment adds again. How can I stop this from happening? Maybe I could hide the comment box and display a thank you message but that would not stop a repeat entry. I believe that he first approach may quickly cause the intuitive/misleading code. • How to define type-specific scripts when using a 'type object' programming pattern?

  I am in the process of creating a game engine written in C++, using the C/C++ SQLite interface to achieve a 'type object' pattern. The process is largely similar to what is outlined here (Thank you Bob Nystrom for the great resource!). I have a generally defined Entity class that when a new object is created, data is taken from a SQLite database and then is pushed back into a pointer vector, which is then iterated through, calling update() for each object. All the ints, floats, strings are loaded in fine, but the script() member of Entity is proving an issue. It's not much fun having a bunch of stationary objects laying around my gameworld. The only solutions I've come up with so far are: Create a monolithic EntityScript class with member functions encompassing all game AI and then calling the corresponding script when iterating through the Entity vector. (Not ideal) Create bindings between C++ and a scripting language. This would seem to get the job done, but it feels like implementing this (given the potential memory overhead) and learning a new language is overkill for a small team (2-3 people) that know the entirety of the existing game engine. Can you suggest any possible alternatives? My ideal situation would be that to add content to the game, one would simply add a script file to the appropriate directory and append the SQLite database with all the object data. All that is required is to have a variety of integers and floats passed between both the engine and the script file.

  I have about 4 or 5 accounts with WebHost4life.com, these are all my customers that based on my recommendation have been hosting with webhost4life.com. A few days ago for some reason they decided to migrate one of these accounts to a new server. They moved everything created a new database on the new server but the new database is empty. after spending hours with Tech support they acknowledged the problem and assured me it will take up to an hour or two and my database will be populated with the data. this was about 7 hours ago. Oh by the way I pay extra for the backup plan and yes you guessed it, none of my backups are there. Needless to say I’m very scared and disappointed. No one is responding to my emails  or phone calls. After searching the web, I found out, this has happened before, in some cases it took them days to fix the problem and many never got it resolved and switched hosting companies, I would love to do that but I need my 2 GB database before I start shopping around for a new hosting company. Stay away from Webhost4life.

I'm developing a software for 1 year and few months, it's for the food industry, more exactly a software to: Delivery, Take Way, Table Reservation, POS, Accounts Payable and Receivable, Prints(receipt), Kitchen Monitors Orders, Customers Orders Control and Fiscal Area. Well, I had separated the software mainly in two areas, one is web area and the other is desktop area (Used by Admins only) and local installed. 1 - Web Area (Basically do the follow:) Show Catalog with the products Customers Make Orders Customers Pay for the Orders etc ... as mentioned above 2 - Desktop Area Manage Orders Manage Customers Manage Suppliers Manage Accounts Payable and Receivable etc ... as mentioned above The web area is hosted in an online web server (scripts and database are online). The Desktop area is hosted locally in a Linux machine with a local database and local scripts files. My question is: Is it possible to keep only one Database for both applications? If YES, please what is the best approach? Follow my technical specification environment Database: Actually I have two databases working and I would love to keep only one. Operating System: Linux (Kernel 2.6.X and above) or Windows (XP and above) For the Web Area Apache, PHP, Python, Java Script, Shell Script and MySQL. • ASP.NET MVC 2 UpdateModel() is not updating values in memory or database

  Hello, I am new to MVC, and so am working through the NerdDinner tutorial, here. In particular, I'm running into problems with the use of the UpdateModel method, which is explained in the part five of that tutorial. The problem is, when I try to edit the value of a dinner object using the UpdateModel method, the values do not get updated, and no exceptions are thrown. Oddly, I am not having any trouble with the Create or Delete features that are illustrated in the tutorial. Only the update feature isn't working. Below, I have included the Controller code that I am using, as well as the view markup, which is contained in both an aspx View file and an ascx Partial View file. • Can spliting an access database cause printer and reporting issues?

  We have a setup in which our users log into an access database using MS Access 2003 over an RDP connection. The user's login to their own machines first using a roaming profile. They then click an rdp connection file on the desktop and login to the remote server, via RDP, where they use MS Access as the shell; they don't have any access to any of explorer.exe features such as the start menu. The database they are logging into is more of an application, and provides functionality for entering data, querying data, and running reports via form based menus. It all worked pretty well until we split the database as it was nearing 2GBs in size. We moved out the payroll data into a separate partition, a database with the same name in a different folder, both of them on the server. Only two tables were moved into this new database partition, and they were re-linked as external tables in the new partition. Now while everything appears to be working fine data-wise after the split, there's a new issue when our users login via RDP and attempt to run reports: often the report will not display and instead the user sees an error about the click event of the form. At first I didn't even know it was printer-related, as we didn't really change anything related to the printers as far as I knew. Confused about the error, I talked to the guy who previously worked here and who was in charge of splitting the database, and he told me to tell the users to set their default printers (on their local machines, not on the server) to the "printer" Microsoft XPS Document Writer which isn't a physical printer at all. This allowed the user's to display their reports, but if they want to print out reports, they are required to go to the File menu and select Print, clicking the print icon on the toolbar takes them to a Save As... dialog as would be expected when using the Microsoft XPS Document Writer as your default printer. It's easy to tell if the user is having a problem because a quick mouseover of the printer icon will yield a tooltip of (none) when they cannot access their reports, and a tooltip of Microsoft XPS Document Writer when they can view the reports. If the user's printer is set to anything other than Microsoft XPS Document Writer as the default on their local machine, then (none) is always displayed when they rdp to the database. The RDP settings are setup to transfer the local printer to the server. Telling the users to do this to print has been more of a band-aid on the whole situation until we find a better solution and an explanation as to why splitting a database would prevent users from printing or even viewing access database reports. Which is why I'm here asking this question. Also of note all the printers on the network now show up on the server so that when the users do click File->Print to print their reports on a physical printer, they have to look through a huge list of printers to find theirs in the dropdown. So the little band-aid fix we have is not ideal. Previously, only the printers on the user's local machine displayed here, and not all the printers on the network. My co-worker seems to think this has something to do with permissions, I personally think it has to do with roaming profiles, and Group Policies which is what I've been reading up on. I really don't know how to fix this or how it is related to splitting the database.

The program uses a JTextField for some text entry and a JLabel to indicate the text to be entered. These problem are consistent across multiple Mac systems running Java SE 6 under OS 10.5.x and 10.6.x, but they are never observed when one reverts to J2SE 5.0. If there is some background information pertinent to this problem that I have omitted, please let me know. • Creating ActionEvent object for CustomButton in Java

  For a hw assignment, we were supposed to create a custom button to get familiar with swing and responding to events. We were also to make this button an event source which confuses me. I have an ArrayList to keep track of listeners that would register to listen to my CustomButton. What I am getting confused on is how to notify the listeners. My teacher hinted at having a notify and overriding actionPerformed which I tried doing, but then I wasn't sure how to create an ActionEvent object looking at the constructor documentation. • What the best way to achieve RPO of zero and lowest possible RTO (less than 15 minutes) with SQL 2008 R2?

  We are running a payments (EFT transaction processing) application which is processing high volumes of transactions 24/7 and are currently investigating a better way of doing DB replication to our disaster recovery site. Our current and previous strategies have included using both DoubleTake and Redgate to replicate data to a warm stand-by. DoubleTake is the supported solution from the payments software vendor however their (DoubleTake's) support in South Africa is very poor. We had a few issues and simply couldn't ever resolve them so we had to give up on DoubleTake. We have been using Redgate to manually read the data from the primary site (via queries) and write to the DR site but this is: A bad solution Getting the software vendor hot and bothered whenever we have support issues as it has a tendency to interfere with the payment application which is very DB intensive. We recently upgraded the whole system to run on SQL 2008 R2 Enterprise which means we should probably be looking at using some of the built-in replication features. The server has 2 fairly large databases with a mixture of tables containing highly volatile transactional data and pretty static configuration data. Replication would be done over a WAN link to a separate physical site and needs to achieve the following objectives. RPO: Zero loss - This is transactional data with financial impact so we can't lose anything. RTO: Tending to zero - The business depends on our ability to process transactions every minute we are down we are losing money I have looked at a few of the other questions/answers but none meet our case exactly: SQL Server 2008 failover strategy - Log shipping or replication? How to achieve the following RTO & RPO with logshipping only using SQL Server? What is the best of two approaches to achieve DB Replication? My current thinking is that we should use mirroring but I am concerned that for RPO:0 we will need to do delayed commits and this could impact the performance of the primary DB which is not an option. Our current DR process is to: Stop incoming traffic to the primary site and allow all in-flight transaction to complete. Allow the replication to DR to complete. Change network routing to route to DR site. Start all applications and services on the secondary site (Ideally we can change this to a warmer stand-by whereby the applications are already running but not processing any transactions). In other words the DR database needs to, as quickly as possible, catch up with primary and be ready for processing as the new primary. We would then need to be able to reverse this when we are ready to switch back. Is there a better option than mirroring (should we be doing log-shipping too) and can anyone suggest other considerations that we should keep in mind?
