  • Dedicated hard disk for SE dbname.dbs files & dedicated ramdisk for /tmp files.

    INFORMIX-SE 7.2: I would like to dedicate a hard disk, exclusively for my dbname.dbs directory which holds all the .dat and .idx files, and create a ramdisk for my /tmp temporary files in order to improve performance. I would also like to strip down the OS from any unecessary files and processes to minimize overhead for my dedicated application. Is this a good idea and are there any roadmaps for accomplishing this?

    Already checked exisitng questions for this, but didn't find an exact match. My aim is to replace characters (like spaces) on a webpage with a small image using css. Example: <p><span>This is a text</span></p> becomes: <p><span>ThisIMGisIMGaIMGtext</span></p> (where IMG stands for a visible image (middot-pic for a space f.e.)) I cannot think of a suitable css selector. But myabe one of you guys (or girls) know a solution. Is this possible at all?

    Sample jquery. Assume $cog is a cached selector of multiple items. $cog.fadeOut('slow',function(){ alert('hey'); }) In that example, of $cog is a jQuery object of 4 DOM elements, the above will fade each element out one by one, and trigger an alert each time on the callback (4 alerts). I'd like to only call the alert when all 4 elements are done with their fadeOut function. This: $cog.fadeOut('slow',function(){ }) alert('hey'); when run, will show an alert, then the $cog elements disappear (I'm guessing due to timing issues with the fadeOut animation) Is there a way when calling a function against multiple DOM objects in a jQuery object to know when it's done with the last item?

  • If element has been 'mouseover'ed for 500ms, run function with jQuery

    For the sanity of my users, I want a 'mouseover' event to run after the selector has been hovered for half a second rather than as soon as they hover it. I first tried a setTimeout function but that runs however long the element has been hovered, I didn't think it through too much I guess. I've also spent a day (on and off) searching (and playing Pacman) ti no result, unless I'm searching for the wrong things. I would like to keep this plugin-less if we can, purely for run speed & maintainability. $("#mySelector").mouseover(function(){ // Run after 500ms $(this).addClass("hasBeen500ms"); }); Let's see if we can crack this, I know it will have so many applications!

    i tried to find a built-in for geometric mean but couldn't. (Obviously a built-in isn't going to save me any time while working in the shell, nor do i suspect there's any difference in accuracy; for scripts i try to use built-ins as often as possible, where the (cumulative) performance gain is often noticeable. In case there isn't one (which i doubt is the case) here's mine. gm_mean = function(a){prod(a)^(1/length(a))}

Here's a simplified version of the link structure of the page: <a href="same/link/to/stuff/">same link</a> <a href="same/link/to/stuff/">same link</a> How do I fashion my selector so that it only selects the second anchor in the above example?   • Dynamically choosing css property in animation

    Hi, It seems a straightforward thing but I'm not having much success. I'm just implementing a simple animation moving a div left or up using animate() but I would like to be able to set the "top" and "left" css properties dynamically. I would like to use the same function rather than have to have two, one for "left" and one for "top".     I have two object: @protocol ObjectADelegate - (void)objectAfirst:(ObjectA *)obj; - (void)objectAsecond:(ObjectA *)obj; @end @interface ObjectA : NSObject { id<ObjectADelegate> delegate; - (void)callSecond { [self.delegate objectAsecond:self]; } @end @interface ObjectB : NSObject <ObjectADelegate>{ ObjectA *myObjectA; } @implementation ObjectB - (void)objectAfirst:(ObjectA *)obj { // First is finished, do second [obj callSecond]; } - (void)objectASecond:(ObjectA *)obj { // Do my stuff } @end As you can see in the code, when ObjectA send the message objectAfirst to its delegate, objectb use again objectA methods that result in objecta calling back objectb. It means that what first fire objectAfirst is not finished but objectA send the objectAsecond message. Could it be a problem ? Any way to let delay message handling in objectB ? for example, something like using [obj performSelector:@selector(callSecond) afterDelay:0.01]; instead of [obj callSecond]; ?
