  • Why is caching such an issue in .net 3.5?

    Has anyone else having an issue with browser caching when using .net? I am using VS 2008 and IE8. And I include all the recommended code to ensure that there is no caching, still 20% of the time, I get cached values. This was never an issue with classic asp. Any ideas?

  • Is external JavaScript source available to scripting context inside HTML page?

    When an external JavaScript file is referenced, <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery-1.4.4.min.js"></script> is the JavaScript source (lines of code before interpretation) available from the DOM or window context in the current HTML page? I mean by using only standard JavaScript without any installed components or tools. I know tools like Firebug trace into external source but it's installed on the platform and likely has special ability outside the context of the browser sandbox.

  • How does SO's form remember previous input values?

    I've noticed that the Title or Body part is remembered if I come back to the Ask Question page by pressing Back button of my browser. This feature is available in all browsers I tested, but doesn't exist for the forms in my own projects. How can I approach that effect? UPDATE I still don't have any clue yet,but guess it that some kind of client cache enabled by http headers or javascript?

  • AllowSetForegroundWindow & SetForegroundWindow: NPAPI plug-in wants to allow a desktop application with no success

    Here it's what I have: a web browser plug-in written in C++ and a Windows application written in C#. They communicate through a named pipe. The plug-in instructs the C# application to open a file (suppose that the file is a .txt and it opens in Notepad). Once the C# application is given the command, it opens the file but Notepad doesn't show in the foreground, which isn't acceptable, I must open Notepad in the foreground. I modified the C# application so that it calls the SetForegroundWindow function. This time Notepad didn't open in the foreground, but the taskbar flashes. After reading the documentation for SetForegroundWindow and many articles I think that now I understand what the problem is: the C# application can't bring Notepad to the foreground because it wasn't the the foreground process, the browser was (?). After reading this: "A process that can set the foreground window can enable another process to set the foreground window by calling the AllowSetForegroundWindow function." I decided to modify the plug-in. This time the plug-in calls the AllowSetForegroundWindow function passing ASFW_ANY as a parameter (I know, ASFW_ANY could be risky, but I wanted to make sure that AllowSetForegroundWindow would do it). After I did the modification to the plug-in I tested it and it worked! (Opera 12.02). Then I tested it on Internet Explorer and it worked too. But the problem came when I tested it in Firefox and Chrome. The C# application didn't have the ability to bring Notepad to the foreground. I noticed that for those browsers the AllowSetForegroundWindow function was returning false. So I started investigating and I come to the conclusion that maybe it's because the plugin container that Firefox uses. An idea came to my mind: it worked in Opera 12.02, but they don't have a plugin container, although they did in Opera 12.00. So I downloaded Opera 12.00, I did the test and it failed, which makes me conclude that the plugin container is the culprit. The question is: how can I give to the C# application the ability to set foreground? I don't know how to continue, and I think that I tried all the legitimate ways. The AllowSetForegroundWindow & SetForegroundWindow seems to not apply here.

  • Using mod_negotiation to serve webp if the UA requests it.

    Is it possible to use mod_negotiation to serve up a webp image if the browser supports it, and a jpg otherwise? For instance, if I link to an image with the path /images/test, it serves the image found at /images/test.webp if the UA knows about webp, or jpg otherwise? I've tried poking around, but it seems that the Accept headers in Chrome at least look like Accept:*/*, rather than specifying the image type. If this isn't the way to do it, has anyone got any other suggestions?

  • What does it mean when a ByteInputStream keeps returning 0?

    I have a ByteInputStream, created from a Socket in Java. The connection is to a simple web server that uses chunked transfer encoding. The web server does in fact work in normal browser. But in my program, I am attempting to read, I read the first first bytes (some 5kb of data). But each read after that returns 0 bytes read. Isn't it supposed to block until it can read?

It looks more or less okay in all browser, but the problem is, if a resize the window to a smaller size, sometimes the layout of the subnavigation layer is destroyed. Instead of getting smaller, all the elements are ordered more or less randomly. Any hints why?

  • Restoring raid 5 array after bios flash

    I have just flashed my BIOS and now my machine does not detect my raid5 array! It has three 2TB drives in it so that is a LOT of data that will be lost! I have NOT deleted the array and it does not offer me to reboot I'm using Nvidia MediaShield! and Windows 7. Any ideas guys? Thanks! Update: here is the GUI raid configuration.     Hi All, I am new to web development, and trying to get a hold on security issues. I went through this article on http://guides.rubyonrails.org/security.html these are some of the steps the author has mentioned how an attacker fixes session. 1. The attacker creates a valid session id: He loads the login page of the web application where he wants to fix the session, and takes the session id in the cookie from the response (see number 1 and 2 in the image). 2. He possibly maintains the session. Expiring sessions, for example every 20 minutes, greatly reduces the time-frame for attack. Therefore he accesses the web application from time to time in order to keep the session alive. 3. Now the attacker will force the user’s browser into using this session id (see number 3 in the image). As you may not change a cookie of another domain (because of the same origin policy), the attacker has to run a JavaScript from the domain of the target web application. Injecting the JavaScript code into the application by XSS accomplishes this attack. Here is an example: <script>?document.cookie="_session_id=16d5b78abb28e3d6206b60f22a03c8d9";?</script>. Read more about XSS and injection later on. 4. The attacker lures the victim to the infected page with the JavaScript code. By viewing the page, the victim’s browser will change the session id to the trap session id. 5. As the new trap session is unused, the web application will require the user to authenticate. 6. From now on, the victim and the attacker will co-use the web application with the same session: The session became valid and the victim didn’t notice the attack. I dont understand couple of points. i) why is user made to login in step5, since session is sent through. ii) I saw possible solutions on wiki, like user properties check and others why cant we just reset the session for the user whoever is login in when they enter username and password in step5?   • jQuery, .empty() and memory

    Hello, my application (ASP.NET MVC) shows a page which loads data constantly, at certain intervals. The jQuery script calls a controller and this one renders a different partial view, based on certain conditions. This partial view is the appended to the DOM with jQuery; previous elements are removed with the empty() method. I've realized that after one day the browser loads something like 600Mb of memory. What am I doing wrong? Thanks Alberto

  • Windows 7 unidentified network (or limited access) after hibernate.

    My windows 7 network will show limited access or unidentified network after coming up from hibernation. In the office I normally use LAN connection, I turn-off my wireless card (DELL Latitude has on/off switch for the wireless card). When I back at home I will turn on the wireless card, but it will take about 15 seconds to detect my home WIFI and then show limited access. I will have to restart the notebook and it will be able to connect to my WIFI and internet. The problem will be solved if I restart the notebook, but that defeats the purpose of hibernation doesn't it? I have tried uninstalling the wireless card driver but still does not solve it. I also tried updating my network card driver but windows says I am using the latest driver. On support.dell.com also showing I am using the latest driver.
