  • Cron Script to Delete Folder Contents Every 5 Minutes on Media Temple

    - by Brian Iannone
I'm not familiar with server-side scripting, but I'm currently using a PHP application on Media Temple to cache JPEGs from four webcams hosted on a server located in the middle of the Indian Ocean. (Hence my reason for caching them in the US.) The webcams are updated every five minutes. The PHP application stores the cached images in http://static.rigic.co/cache/. I would like to create a cron script to automatically delete the contents of "cache" (not the folder itself; just the files inside) at a regular interval.

  • How do I display alternate languages in Interface Builder? (Xcode5)

    - by Anthony F
The iOS project is using Base Localization with localizable strings set up for the Storyboard in English and German. Everything is working properly when I change the language for the simulator, but some of the text is getting truncated in German. I would like to view the German text in Interface builder so that it's easier to fix the constraints on the text labels and fields. It seems like this should just be a view setting or something, but I can't seem to find anything obvious.

  • Simple web general localization/translation backend (using mysql)?

    - by Hendrik
Hi is there a free avaible translation backend with database avaible which can handle multiple users(no login needed), multiple languages (UTF-8) and provides automatic google translation? I just need this tool to fill a database (preferable mysql) with simple tables like this: language | label | text english | _helloworld | Hello World! german | _helloworld | Hallo Welt! I don't care about export since this will have to be created anyways.. Thanks it would be a real timesaver if something with an usable UI exists already.

  • How do Python and PHP compare for ecommerce?

    - by Ibn Saeed
If I were to start an ecommerce store, which language would you suggest I start with? Python or PHP? And would it be wise to use Python for an ecommerce site in favor of PHP? PHP has lots of shopping carts, both open source and commercial. Is Python the future of Web Development ? Edit: I would like to clear out that i am not asking for Shopping carts solutions and links to them.

  • FCoE, on any Ethernet switch?

    - by javano
I understand the concept of FCoE. I have looked at the Wikipedia page and looking at the layer 2 frame diagram, it looks like FCoE really should "just work" on any Ethernet switch, but is this really the case? If so, what do switches like Cisco's Nexus 5k or 6120P offer that normal switches don't (in specific relation to FCoE)? I am just using those two switches as examples. On the Nexus 5548UP page for example it says the following; Unified ports that support traditional Ethernet, Fibre Channel (FC),and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) Well if FCoE runnins over regular Ethernet, that why does it support "Ethernet and Fibire Channel over Ethernet"? This is why I am curious as to weather FCoE will run on any Ethernet switch and these switches just support "bonus" features, or if you do indeed require a specialist switch. Thank you.

  • If you are a hard core .NET programmer, would you invest in learning Java

    - by GarbageGuy
Learning just another language is not much work. However, getting familiar with all the supporting libraries is veeeery expensive and actually you cannot go too far without that. Would you consider a worthy career investment to learn java once you already are an accepted professional of .NET or you would rather invest the same amount of energy to get deeper in the things you already know?

  • Are there any MVP Frameworks projects out there?

    - by Greg Malcolm
MVC is used a number of popular frameworks. To name just a few, Ruby on Rails, ASP.NET MVC, Monorail, Spring MVC. Are there any equivalent frameworks using any variant of MVP? Most of the examples I've found online seem to be custom implementations of the pattern rather than reusable frameworks. Suggestions need not be specific to any particular programming language, my interest is mostly academic.

  • Is learncpp.com good for beginners?

    - by Dream Lane
In my search for a good, freely available resource that will teach me C++ I stumbled on http://www.learncpp.com/. My question is for intermediate to experienced C++ programmers... Does this site seem to be a good resource for a beginner to learn C++ from? I've gone through the first few section of the site, and I feel like I am starting to grasp the language, but being a beginner in C++ I really could be learning things all wrong and have no idea.

  • How can I implement ASP.NET MVC without using Visual Studio?

    - by Cheeso
I have seen ASP.NET MVC Without Visual Studio, which asks, Is it possible to produce a website based on ASP.NET MVC, without using Visual Studio? And the accepted answer is, yes. Ok, next question: how? Here's an analogy. If I want to create an ASP.NET Webforms page, I load up my favorite text editor, create a file named Something.aspx. Then I insert into that file, some boilerplate: <%@ Page Language="C#" Debug="true" Trace="false" Src="Sourcefile.cs" Inherits="My.Namespace.ContentsPage" %> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head> <title>Title goes here </title> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/style.css"></link> <style type="text/css"> #elementid { font-size: 9pt; color: Navy; ... more css ... } </style> <script type="text/javascript" language='javascript'> // insert javascript here. </script> </head> <body> <asp:Literal Id='Holder' runat='server'/> <br/> <div id='msgs'></div> </body> </html> Then I also create the Sourcefile.cs file: namespace My.Namespace { using System; using System.Web; using System.Xml; // etc... public class ContentsPage : System.Web.UI.Page { protected System.Web.UI.WebControls.Literal Holder; void Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) { // page load logic here } } } And that is a working ASPNET page, created in a text editor. Drop it into an IIS virtual directory, and it's working. What do I have to do, to make a basic, hello, World ASPNET MVC app, in a text editor? (without Visual Studio)

  • Drawing on top of every windows on X11

    - by Vítor Baptista
Hi, I am trying to make an arcade machine. The user will purchase credits, which will allow him to play for X minutes. I want to write "9:42 minutes left" at the left corner of the screen, even if he's playing a full screen game (UrbanTerror, for example). I would really like if I could do this with Ruby, but any other language is OK. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  • Vetting Github Pull requests with Hudson

    - by cdecker
I've been using Gerrit and Hudson very successfully to test and automatically vote on new checkins in the past and now I'm wondering whether it is possible to set up Hudson so that it'll check Github at regular intervals and looks if there are new Pull Requests available. If yes it should apply the patch and run the unit tests against it, adding a comment to the pull request if no failure is detected. It would certainly reduce the amount of work going into vetting patches/pull requests. Is that possible at all, or should I stick with my Gerrit setup?

  • Finding a simple object in a low-quality image

    - by Ramon Snir
Hi, I want to do this thing in C# (or any other .NET language), not sure how: I have an image I captured from webcam and I want to find a specific simple object in it (let's say a red circle with a black square in it). The red circle can be a bit different from time to time (because of shadows) and the square might be also a bit brighter sometimes and even rotated a bit. Please help me!

  • Looking for programmer in NYC

    - by Oren
I have taken the idea of "language maintenance" a niche that no one is paying attention to and created a company focused on live conversation with complimentary tools. Looking to create a web 2.0 style social network with an already clearly defined brand identity, design and plan. Already have assembled a team but am looking for a passionate programmer to take the technical lead and create a functional alpha and beta.

  • Throttling apache downloads selectively

    - by Synchro
I have a linux box running Debian Sarge (old I know) and apache 2.0.54. It serves two kinds of files - regular web pages and small images, and a lot of large podcast mp3s. The podcast downloads swamp the connection and make the rest of the site unresponsive, so I'm looking to throttle the data transfer rate (not the request rate) of just the podcasts. I've set up haproxy using this technique which does what it says it will, but solves a different problem - even only 5 simultaneous podcast downloads is enough to saturate the link. In a perfect world, haproxy would support per-connection throttling, but it doesn't. So far I've looked at mod_bw (won't compile for me, seems unsupported), mod_cband (unsupported, widely reported as problematic) and iptables using tc. The iptables approach would allow me to throttle things, but would not be at all selective, slowing down everything on the server, not just the podcasts, so would just move the bottleneck without changing overall behaviour. Ideas?
