Hi,
How can I make my computer accessible anywhere (via SSH preferably).
I have Ubuntu installed on it.
Or
Is there a way to set up dyndns.com using dynamic IP without any router changes?
I just bought a backlit keyboard from a not so known brand. It doesnt have any good drivers. My issue is when I put my computer to sleep or even turn it off, all the leds underneath the keys stay on.
Is there some power management option that lets you turn this off? Thanks!
I don't remember this happening before, but now whenever I play any video in iTunes (podcast video, movie, TV show, iTunes extras stuff but the menus work) it just shows a black screen with the sound playing. If I stop it, select "Computer" in the little output control on the iTunes video control panel that pops up, then play again, it works fine.
What the heck?
Tried rebooting, updating, with and without external monitor.
OSX 10.6.6
I'd like to transfer the (non-DRM) music I have on my iPhone to my computer. What application can I use to do that?
I found several shareware that didn't really work.
EDIT I've removed the Windows tag, so please feel free to add solutions for other OSes.
I have two computers on a home network. One is a development machine, testing sites on IIS (http:// myclientsite/). My other computer (Laptop) is connected through a wireless – it can access shared folders just fine.
How do I allow Laptop to access the site (http:// myclientsite/) located on the development machine?
I have a Dell desktop that is hanging at the Windows XP splash screen and eventually (after about 5 minutes) cycles to a "F1 to retry boot F2 to enter setup utility".
I tried to start the computer in Safe Mode but it eventually cycles to the same "F1, F2" screen.
What are the likely causes and what are the remedies?
Hypothetically, could you start with a computer running Windows 95, upgrade this to Windows 98, then upgrade this to Windows XP, then upgrade this to Vista, then to 7 and finally to 8 (consumer preview)?
What state would the OS be in after so many upgrades? Would any of the native Windows 95 apps still be sticking around in Windows 8?
Has anybody done anything like this before?
I don't need to do this, I am just asking out of curiosity!
Thanks
I have 16gb of ram installed in my computer, and nearly 70% of it is used at all times. Looking at the processes in task manager the memory being used with everything in there doesn't even add up to 2gb. I have RAPID mode enabled on my ssd which may be using 2gb at most so I would understand that. I am thinking there might be a memory leak somewhere, but I don't really know how I would be able to tell. My performance and process list is below:
I would like to install a quad core computer in my dorm at college and use my much slower laptop to be able to control the quad core just as if I had a quad core laptop (control as in i see the gui, not command line control)! Both are on the same college network, though Im also interested in what would be necessary if the computers were on different networks. What would be the best method fot this? Im looking for non-lag communication.
I have no OS installed, and I am trying to use a linux boot disc. However it is not a linux problem....if I just leave the computer on at the no operating system found message, it still turns off.
I thought maybe it was overheating, but I am 90% sure that is not the problem.
What else could cause this?
I have a Windows XP machine that locks itself after an unknown amount of time. I have disabled the screen saver completely, and unchecked "lock computer when coming out of standby". I've even overrode the settings with gpedit. Even still, it locks itself after a while, and it doesn't take long.
If it's any sort of hint, the time period for the screensaver is greyed out, even if I choose an actual screensaver.
Do you know of any application that works like this:
Allows you to create folders where the files in number 2 will be placed.
Allows you arrange all/any of the files in the computer according to file type, date, size, etc.
I need suggestions for a single board computer, with these requirements:
Runs linux
Wifi
(I/O module?)
Does not need much computing power. I'm using it for applications like twittering when the coffee at the office is ready etc. I'd like it to run linux, for easy scripting and a full network stack. (preferably pre-installed)
I don't really know how did I get to download and install this software. But when I search it in google, the site has a red mark(wot).
Is it bad for the computer? does it install spyware and viruses
A users Windows 7 laptop is throwing Event 4321, NetBT errors every two minutes. It is trying to register every DNS name on the network to it's own interface. While there is alot of discussion on single instances of this I have never seen it do it for every computer name in the network.
Any thoughts?
Computer running windows 7 pro connected to windows 2003 domain. User creates an xls file and he is trying to delete it. He deletes the file successfully and when he presses F5 to refresh the folder the file re-appears like it was never deleted.
I'm getting tired of waking up to my computer being turned on, and event log shows that it's waking up everyday at 3:40am and most times won't go back to sleep after the determined 30 minutes (maybe from being in the lock screen?).
There are no devices armed for wake, activation timers are disabled and all wake options disabled in the BIOS and energy star 4.0c is enabled (was disabled before but no difference).
I play games on my laptop, and they run at about 30-45 fps, which is bearable for me. But when I try to stream, the frame rate drops to 20 or lower, which is unplayable for me.
I have a second computer though (a Mac, the laptop is Win7), and I'm wondering if there is anyway to stream the game content (onto Twitch.tv) from my laptop using my Mac.
Is this possible, and how would I go about doing it?

Find out what the motherboard on my computer is
I need to find the model of my motherboard so I can find what soundcard/chip it uses so I can get some drivers for it.
Is there anyway to get this from inside XP? I looked through device manager but haven't seen anything that would tell me.
I built the system over a year ago and don't have any receipts to check what it was.
Hello,
I have a small office with 3 computers + my own laptop without any network between these computers.
I would like to see keyboard log of each worker computer from my laptop without disturbing my workers.
I should be able to see each keyboard log from my laptop (from GUI or e-mail message)
Also, is it possible to limit the logging?
For example I would not to see log of msn messenger, but I should see log of IE,Outlook etc...?
When I'm away from my computer (Windows XP) for more than ~30 minutes, I get locked out, and have to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to login. I've checked the screensaver settings, and it's not set to lock the screen.
Does anyone know what else could be causing this?
Thanks
my laptop, which i run ubuntu on, is getting a bit old and i find it's getting slower and slower at running applications. My desktop computer is stronger, but I can't give up on the portability of my laptop.
I was thinking of installing a HD drawer for both my laptop and desktop. and when I come home just pull the HD from the laptop and plug it into the desktop.
I wanted to ask if anyone have tried it or have any inputs on the idea
I would like to rent a remote computer, like a virtual Vista or Windows 7 desktop, and run everything on it and access it with RDP (fastest).
It could be virtual (running on Xen or Hyper-V) and the price needs to be right.
Windows 7 to Windows 7 has nice RDP offload feature and doing stuff in the cloud is fast.
Anywhere I could rent something like that?
I've been using Amazon and CloudLayer, but they are optimized for server versions of Windows.
I never got an answer in my googling to this about a year ago and have an extra stick of memory I'd like to be able to use. When is inserted the computer starts, and then reboots immediately in an endless reboot cycle. As soon as the 4th stick is removed, the computer works fine. Right now I have 6 GB of my 8 GB installed.
Is there a solution that I am missing to enabling this motherboard to actually boot up with all 8 GB (it supports it). Right now it won't even boot up to BIOS with the 4 sticks... only 3?
