• Broadcom 4313 Signal strength very low on an HP Pavilion dv4

  I have a HP pavilion dv4 4141US laptop running fresh ubuntu 11.10. This laptop has a broadcom 4313gn chipset for the network card. The network card is using the brcmsmac driver. Which, I heard else where on askUbuntu that its the best driver to be using for this card. I can connect to my network, however I have extremely low network signal. Right now I am right in front of the router, and I only get 72%. If i go to the room directly behind the router's wall, i get no signal, where as with windows 7 I get a nice 70% percent. UPDATE: I use WEP at home and an open wireless connection at work. Both have same result. Both are completely different routers. Also you G What can i do?

• Can't play stream from TorrentFlux stream

  Hi I am trying to stream a video from my TorrentFlux-b4rt server. I tried multiple media players, none work. Only VLC was able to produce an error message: input can't be opened: VLC is unable to open the MRL 'mms://...:8080/'. Check the log for details. I have tried multiple computers on different networks and all have the same issue. I am using Windows 7 to play the videos, and the server is Torrentflux-b4rt 1.0-beta2 with ubuntu 9.10. Thank you.

• Local area network computer to computer backup software

  Hi! I would like to back up my other computers on my local home network to my computer. What software would you suggest? I liked crashplan, however their confusing UI, and its ability not to sync, turned me away. But it has the right idea. A bonus would be if the software did not compile everything in to one file, but its ok if it does. Also I would like it to be free

• Manage utorrent webui with a desktop app

  Hi! Is there a desktop application that lets you connect to a utorrent server? It would be nice to manage my torrents away from my browser. Also it would be nice to just open a .torrent file and make it upload the file to the server and start downloading. I tried to do some google searches but all it displays is how to setup webui... • Use all 5.1 speakers with a 2.1 audio source

  Hi! I just bought a 5.1 surround sound speaker set for my computer in my bedroom. The rear speakers are next to me in bed while the front speakers are at the other end of the bed at my feet. While I enjoy the surround sound during movies that support 5.1 sound, I would like to have my rear speakers working when listening to podcasts, or other 2.1 channel sound. How can I do this? When I enable "Speaker Fill" in the Realtek Hd Audio manager the sound only comes out of the front and center speakers with a few background noises that come out the rear ones. But since my ears are closer to the rear speakers, I'd rather have the sound come out of them. Let me know of any ideas! Hmm seems like the only option is to set the rear speakers to "Front Speakers" and change it to stereo in the Realtek HD audio. But still that take alot of steps and it doesnt not use the center speaker Thanks

• Keep rainmeter from minimizing

  HI! Just been playing around with Rainmeter and I notice that if I want to go look at my desktop and I click on the bottom right square in win7 that minimizes to the desktop, the rainmeter "gadget" gets minimized as well, not letting me read what I want to see. Is there something I can configure to make it stay up? Thanks!

  I'm looking for something like MaxiVista that lets you extend your monitor to a second computer monitor. However Maxivista is only Windows base. My main computer is Windows 7 and the other computer I'm trying to connect to is a Mac. Note I am not trying to share my keyboard or mouse, I want to use the Mac as a third display.

• After enabling raid0, blue screen of death

  Hi! Im trying to get a raid0 setup going. I have a 750 gb hdd with the OS on it and two 80gb HDD. For right now, I just want to raid0 on the two 80Gb hdd. When I enable raid in my Bios, Win7 has a BSOD during boot. As far as I understand I need to install raid drivers. However how can I do this? The win7 DVD doesnt seem to have a driver install option. Any suggestions? Thanks EDIT: I saw that there was as seperate setting for the 4th and 5th sata ports. So I pluged in my OS drive into there and left it on IDE. Still didnt work though, am I miss understanding that idealogy?

• Turn off backlit keyboard when computer goes to sleep

  I just bought a backlit keyboard from a not so known brand. It doesnt have any good drivers. My issue is when I put my computer to sleep or even turn it off, all the leds underneath the keys stay on. Is there some power management option that lets you turn this off? Thanks!
