• When HDD becomes full, how to create a symbolic link to the data store on another disk?

  I have a Linux Ubuntu machine which has an X GB hard disk. There is folder, say, /opt/software/data. The disk /dev/sda1 is almost full and I have attached another disk at /dev/sda2 which is mounted at /hdd2. Is it possible for me to link the folders /opt/software/data with /hdd2/software/data so, that every file get stored in the /hdd2/software/data but may be referred from the /opt/software/data? I can't do a reinstall of the software that creates this data, to change the default location of storage.

How important is this decision? What would happen if there are two NSFetchedResultsController instances using the exact same cacheName? Does that matter? Is that some kind of singleton stuff? Thinking about Core Animation, there's also this strange animationID parameter, but setting it to the exact same thing for dozens of simultaneous animations doesn't hurt the animations at all. So I guess it's probably the same thing here...or not?

  I am trying to create an array that I can include the perent category Name and the child category Name. I can so far access the below object fine using $xml->Subcategories; but if I try my code below I get an empty array why? • What techniques are available for filtering collections of objects when using zodb?

  As the title says: What techniques are available for filtering objects when using zodb? The equivalent in SQL terms would be something like filtering results by a date range. Or only returning rows with a particular value set in a column. If I had a series of blog posts and only wanted ones done in the past month, what would I have to do? Is there any way to optimize these kinds of "queries"? My gut tells me iterating over all the objects in a relationship simply to perform a test is less than optimal.

  Hi All, I'm working in Ubuntu with MySql and I also have Query Browser and Administrator installed, I'm not afraid of the command line either if it helps. I want simply to be able to run a query and see a result set but then convert that result set into a series of commands that could be used to create the same rows in a table of an identical schema. I hope the question makes sense, it's quite a simple problem and one that must have been solved but I can't for the life of me work out where this kind of conversion is made available.   Suppose I have a function which can either take an iterable/iterator or a non-iterable as an argument. Iterability is checked with try: iter(arg). Depending whether the input is an iterable or not, the outcome of the method will be different. Not when I want to pass a non-iterable as iterable input, it is easy to do: I’ll just wrap it with a tuple. What do I do when I want to pass an iterable (a string for example) but want the function to take it as if it’s non-iterable? E.g. make that iter(str) fails.

  I am using CoreData with iPhone SDK. I am making a notes app. I have a table with note objects displayed from my model. When a button is pressed I want to save the text in the textview to the object being edited. How do I do this? I've been trying several things but none seem to work.   Hi, In order to Unit-Test a feature, I need to fake DateTime.Now. Something like: SupposeNowIs(new DateTime(..)); I can either use a third library that does it, or write my own little class. What do you recommand? Do you know any good library for this purpose? How would you fake time in C#? By changing DateTime.Now? (I suppose it's read only?). Thank you!

  I'm implementing a interpreter-like project for which I need a strange little scheduling queue. Since I'd like to try and avoid wheel-reinvention I was hoping someone could give me references to a similar structure or existing work. I know I can simply instantiate multiple queues as I go along, I'm just looking for some perspective by other people who might have better ideas than me ;) I envision that it might work something like this: The structure is a tree with a single root. You get a kind of "insert_iterator" to the root and then push elements onto it (e.g. a and b in the example below). However, at any point you can also split the iterator into multiple iterators, effectively creating branches. The branches cannot merge into a single queue again, but you can start popping elements from the front of the queue (again, using a kind of "visitor_iterator") until empty branches can be discarded (at your discretion). x -> y -> z a -> b -> { g -> h -> i -> j } f -> b Any ideas? Seems like a relatively simple structure to implement myself using a pool of circular buffers but I'm following the "think first, code later" strategy :) Thanks

  I have a column in one of my table where I store multiple ids seperated by comma's. Is there a way in which I can use this column's value in the "IN" clause of a query. The column(city) has values like 6,7,8,16,21,2 I need to use as Select * from table where e_ID in (Select city from locations where e_Id=?) I am satisfied with Crozin's answer, but I am open to suggestions, views and options. Feel free to share your views.

  I'm trying to run through this msdn article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd723645.aspx One of the steps is: In the class file for the page, change the base class from UserControl to EntityTemplateUserControl. Nowhere is it made clear what page is being referenced. Can someone help me? I don't see any relevant class in the pages I have, so I assumed maybe they were talking about the ascx and didn't really mean page, but I'm not seeing an option there either.

This combobox is supposed to contain all instances of Imp, but to also let empty selection; it's value is bound to a service bean as follows: IObservableValue comboImpSelectionObserveWidget = ViewersObservables.observeSingleSelection(comboImpViewer); IObservableValue filterByImpObserveValue = BeansObservables.observeValue(searchPrep, "imp"); bindingContext.bindValue(comboImpSelectionObserveWidget, filterByImpObserveValue , null, null); As soon as the user clicks on the combo, a selection (first element) is made: I can see the call to a selectionlistener i added on the viewer. My question is: after a selection has been made, how do I let the user change his mind and have an empty selection in the combobox? should I add a "fake" empty instance of Imp to the List returned by the ImpContentProvider? or should I implement an alternative to ArrayContentProvider? and one additional related question is: why calling deselectAll() and clearSelection() on the combo does NOT set a null value to the bound bean?

• Iterative printing over two data types in Python

  I often browse freely-available art on the web. Actually, I can't think of a better use for the internet than to turn it into a gigantic art gallery. When I encounter a set of pieces I quite like, I download them all to my hard drive. wget makes that easy, especially in combination with Python's print function, and I use this all the time to make a list of URLs that I then wget. Say I need to download a list of jpegs that run from art0 to art100 in the directory 'art,' I just tell python for i in range(0,101): print "http://somegallery/somedirectory/art", i So, this is probably a fairly simple operation in Python, and after a find-and-replace to remove whitespace, it's just a matter of using wget -i, but in days before I knew any Python I'd slavishly right-click and save. Now I've got a bunch of files from Fredericks & Freiser gallery in New York that all go a(1-14), b(1-14), c(1-14), etc., up to the letter g. I could do that in 7 goes, and it would take me less time than it took to write this SO question. That said, I want to deepen my knowledge of Python. So, given the letters a-g, how do I print a mapping of each letter to the integers 1-14?

  My service returns an byte array, which I have to convert to an 'animated gif' (using imagetools since silverlight doesn't support it yet) I was wondering, is it possible to insert some code at the client, where I can do the conversion before the actual object is returned to whatever it is binded against? On the server side, the queries can be customized before it is sent over the wire. I'm asking for the exact opposite, can I do some on the fly conversions the moment they get of the wire and before they are returned to the controls. If I'm overthinking this and there is a smarter/better/easier way to do it, I'm all for such an answer as well
