  • Oracle (Old?) Joins - A tool for conversion?

    I have been porting oracle selects, and I have been running across a lot of queries like so: SELECT e.last_name, d.department_name FROM employees e, departments d WHERE e.department_id(+) = d.department_id; ...and: SELECT last_name, d.department_id FROM employees e, departments d WHERE e.department_id = d.department_id(+); Are there any guides/tutorials for converting all of the variants of the (+) syntax? What is that syntax even called (so I can scour google)? Even better.. Is there a tool that will do this conversion for me? When was this standard phased out? Any info is appreciated.

  • Is there a way to give a subquery an alias in Oracle 10g SQL?

    Is there a way to give a subquery in Oracle 11g an alias like: select * from (select client_ref_id, request from some_table where message_type = 1) abc, (select client_ref_id, response from some_table where message_type = 2) defg where abc.client_ref_id = def.client_ref_id; Otherwise is there a way to join the two subqueries based on the client_ref_id. I realize there is a self join, but on the database I am running on a self join can take up to 5 min to complete (there is some extra logic in the actual query I am running but I have determined the self join is what is causing the issue). The individual subqueries only take a few seconds to complete by them selves. The self join query looks something like: select st.request, st1.request from some_table st, some_table st1 where st.client_ref_id = st1.client_ref_id;

According to my design, when the application starts first time, I want to display a layout with LOGIN facebook button. After the user will perform login for the first time, I dont want to display this layout/activity again - when the application would be relanched, I want t display another (home) screen, and not the LOGIN one.     Oracle's NEAR operator for full text search returns a score based on the proximity of two or more query terms. For example: near((dog, bite), 6) matches if 'dog' and 'bite' occurs within 6 words. What if I'd like it to match if either 'dog' or 'cat' or any other type of animal occurs within 6 words of the word 'bite'? I tried: near(((dog OR cat OR animal), bite), 6) but I got: NEAR operand not a phrase, equivalence or another NEAR expression Rather than expanding all possible combination into multiple NEAR and 'or' them together, what is the proper way to write such query?

  • Calling a WPF Appliaction and modify exposed properties?

    I have a WPF Keyboard Application, it is developed in such a way that an application could call it and modify its properties to adapt the Keyboard to do what it needs to. Right now I have a file *.Keys.Set which tells the appliaction (on open) to style itself according to that new style. I know this file could be passed as a command line argument into the appliaction. That would not be a problem. My concern is, is thier a way via a managed environment to change the properties of the executable as long as they are exposed properly, an example: 'Creates a new instance of the Keyboard Appliaction Dim e_key as new WpfAppliaction("C:\egt\components\keyboard.exe") 'Sets the style path e_key.SetStylePath("c:\users\joe\apps\me\default.keys.set") e_key.Refresh() 'Applies the style e_key.HideMenu() 'Hides the menu e_key.ShowDeck("PIN") 'Shows the custom "deck" of keyboard keys the developer 'Created in the style appliaction.   • Why is selecting specified columns, and all, wrong in Oracle SQL?

    Say I have a select statement that goes.. select * from animals That gives a a query result of all the columns in the table. Now, if the 42nd column of the table animals is is_parent, and I want to return that in my results, just after gender, so I can see it more easily. But I also want all the other columns. select is_parent, * from animals This returns ORA-00936: missing expression. The same statement will work fine in Sybase, and I know that you need to add a table alias to the animals table to get it to work ( select is_parent, a.* from animals ani), but why must Oracle need a table alias to be able to work out the select?

  • Converting a Matrix to a grid of colors

    I'm currently making a console application in C# (will be going to a Windows Form application in the future. Sooner if needed). My current objective is to have a matrix (current size 52x42) be exported as an image (bitmap, jpeg, png, I'm flexible) where each value in the matrix (0, 1, 2, 3) is portrayed as a white, black, blue, or red square of size 20px x 20px with a grid 1px wide seperating each 'cell'. Can this even be done in a console application, and if so how? If not, what would I need to get it working in a Windows Form application?

    Is there a guarantee that a real number (float, double, etc) can "cover" all integers within its range? By cover I mean, that for every integer within its range there is such real number that this equality holds: real == int Or in another example, let's say I have the biggest real number which is smaller than given integer. When I add "epsilon" will I get this number equal to given integer or bigger than integer? (I know that among real numbers you should not write comparisons as == for equality, I am simply asking for better understanding subject, not for coding comparisons.)

  • How to Use a Windows App with Embeded files and folders to copy to a destination. In C#

    I am trying to write a small application, whose only purpose is to copy some folders and .cs source files into a user specified Directory, I can do it easy enough by simply having the application look for the files and folders in its own install directory then copy them to thier destination Directory, but I was wondering if its possible to Embed the Folders and Files into the Application, so that when you run the application it creates or copies the folders and files from the exe app directly to the install directory, rather than searching for them in the apps install directory then copying them over. Basically Im trying to only have a single exe file rather than having an exe file and a bunch of folders and files along side it. Is this possible to do with just a Windows Form App without using an actual Installer Class?

  • Unable to set up ODBC after installing ODAC (Xcopy)

    We are trying to use ODAC Xcopy to minimize the footprint of installing Oracle 11g Client. Currently, we use the Oracle 11g Admin install (~700mb). I've tried using the ODAC Xcopy, and that works. However, the only issue I now have is that I cannot set up an ODBC on the target system by just installing the ODAC Xcopy. After installing ODAC (Windows XP fyi), I go to Control Panel--Admin Tools--Data Sources (ODBC)--System DSN--Add--Microsoft ODBC for Oracle. I get the following error: "The Oracle(tm) client and networking components were not found. These components are supplied by Oracle and are part of the Oracle Version 7.3 (or greater) client software installation. You will be unable to use this driver until these components have been installed." I've tried editing the registry and creating the same keys that the Oracle Admin install creates, but still no luck. I'm not sure how to get past this. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

  • Windows Server 2008 / SQL 2008 Licensing for Authenticated Web Application

    Hello, I'm trying to crunch some numbers to see what the software costs involved are for hosting an application we are developing. Users will not be anonymous - they will need to log in. SQL Server 2008: SQL Server licensing is easy - it will be licensed per-processor. No real fuss there. The cost of CALs would be much higher for the number of users as compared to the processor licenses. Windows Server 2008: This is where it gets trickier. We need to license the OS for both the web servers (there will be a couple) plus the database servers (also a couple). The Web Servers could run on the Web Edition without a need for CALs, but if you continue reading, you will see that may not matter much because I will likely have user CALs for each user anyway. We can't use the "External Connector" for any of the Windows licenses, because that doesn't cover customers who are paying to access a hosted application. We can't use the Web Edition for the SQL Servers because that license only allows database running on Web Edition to host data for the local web application (i.e. other web servers can't connect to it). So that leaves us with the "full" editions of Windows Server for the database server OS. I find this a little rediculous, and I feel as though I must be missing something, but it looks to me like I will actually need to buy a CAL for every user who signs up to use our service. I feel like I'm missing something because that means that for every user, I have to shell out $40 for a CAL. That could be one or two years' worth of revenue from each user for an inexpensive service! Is there any way to serve a web application to authenticated users without paying for individual Windows Server CALs, if the web servers and SQL servers are seperate boxes?

  • Legacy non-dpi-aware application resolution scaling?

    Our environment prominently featuers an outdated but absolutely mission-critical Win32 application that is not dpi-aware. It is optimized for an 800x600 display. Most of our users now have 17"-20" displays with native resolutions ranging from 1280x1024 to 1680x1050. However, they still operate these displays at 800x600 because the text in this legacy application is otherwise too small. Of course, it also means that nothing quite fits on the screen in Office 2007. Most of our workstations still run Windows XP, but some are on Windows 7 and there are more to come. About one-third of our users run the app remotely via MS Terminal Services, and the remainder run it locally. Is anyone aware of any method that could be used to scale this specific application to about 170%, so that it would fill a 1280x1024 screen, without affecting other applications that work best at the display's native resolution? I know how to do this in Mac OS X, but I have never found a way to do it in Windows. Of course, this ideally would be something that we could push out via Group Policy. I suppose we even could create a custom MSI package to re-deploy the legacy application with some sort of display virtualization layer, if such a thing exists.

  • SQL Server 2008 login problem with ASP.NET application: Failed to open the explicitly specified data

    I am running SQL Server 2008 Express Edition on Windows Server 2008 with an ASP.NET application which must access the server. The ASP.NET application is associated with an application pool that runs on the NetworkService account. This account in turn has a Login and User record on SQL Server in the required database. When I attempt to run the ASP.NET website I get a blank page and when viewed in the error log, I seem to be getting this information event record: Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE'. Reason: Failed to open the explicitly specified database. [CLIENT: myLocalMachine] The connection string has Trusted_Connection=True; and the required database specified. When I explicitly specify the user name and password I get another login error stating the password is incorrect, even though the same un/pw combination works through SQL Server Management studio. The NETWORK SERVICE account seems to have all the required privileges for the database. Also, I made a test ASP.NET website project which does a simple select from a table in that database, and using the same config file I am not getting the error and it seems to work. Is it something to do with trust levels then, because the original ASP.NET web app references various DLLs including open source libraries. Also, the application does not seem to be able to write to the event log itself, throwing a security exception, even though everything in the config files, including machine.config states the app is in full trust.

  • Our application is responding different on client server

    I have an application running on our local server and it works perfect. However when I deploy my application to our client's server there are problems. If i copy all the sources to another local from their server, it works fine again.... I am talking about an ASP.NET application talking with windows server 2008. The server specs of our client are: intel Xeon 2.13 GHz 6 GB RAM 300 GB HDD windows server 2008 R2 Although I think it's not that important I will describe the problems I am talking about to give u a better idea: It is related to upating and deleting fields in the sql server. Whenever there is more than one user running the application, and updates or deletes (not even the same record!0, there seems to be fields updating/deleting wrongly. But as I said before, if we copy the source to another server it is not the case. So I assumed it is more configuration related. Do you guys have any idea what the issue could be?   • What is optimal hardware configuration for heavy load LAMP application

    I need to run Linux-Apache-PHP-MySQL application (Moodle e-learning platform) for a large number of concurrent users - I am aiming 5000 users. By concurrent I mean that 5000 people should be able to work with the application at the same time. "Work" means not only do database reads but writes as well. The application is not very typical, since it is doing a lot of inserts/updates on the database, so caching techniques are not helping to much. We are using InnoDB storage engine. In addition application is not written with performance in mind. For instance one Apache thread usually occupies about 30-50 MB of RAM. I would be greatful for information what hardware is needed to build scalable configuration that is able to handle this kind of load. We are using right now two HP DLG 380 with two 4 core processors which are able to handle much lower load (typically 300-500 concurrent users). Is it reasonable to invest in this kind of boxes and build cluster using them or is it better to go with some more high-end hardware? I am particularly curious how many and how powerful servers are needed (number of processors/cores, size of RAM) what network equipment should be used (what kind of switches, network cards) any other hardware, like particular disc storage solutions, etc, that are needed Another thing is how to put together everything, that is what is the most optimal architecture. Clustering with MySQL is rather hard (people are complaining about MySQL Cluster, even here on Stackoverflow).

  • Tomcat web application intermittent freeze

    I have a Grails web application (just a standard war file) deployed on a Ubuntu 10.10 server running on tomcat 6. My database is postgresql. The problem is that every so often (once or twice a day after inactivity) when I try to log into this web application it just freezes. I can navigate to the login page but when I try and login (first time the DB is hit, might be a clue..?) the application just freezes indefinitely, no 500 response code... the browser just waits and waits. I followed the instructions detailed here because the problem described sounded the same as mine. My GC logging showed no long running GC, all sub sec. When the application freezes a jmap heap output is... using parallel threads in the new generation. using thread-local object allocation.     I'm trying to configure a reverse proxy (ssl) with apache 2.2 in Debian Squeeze, but I have some problems, specially with some path absolute and with https I'll try to detail what I have made and what I'm trying to configure I have a server Debian Squeeze with apache2.2 + mod_proxy_html with: # apt-get install libapache2-mod-proxy-html libxml2-dev # a2enmod proxy # a2enmod proxy_http # a2enmod proxy_html # a2enmod headers After that I have configured a virtual host with: reverse_proxy_ssl.conf I'm trying to configure to allow access of our intranet from internet with a reverse proxy (apache that is located in DMZ). With this configuration domain.com/intranet works correctly and we can access to intranet, but we have one problem when from domain.com/intranet we need to use another internal application that is called from intranet with absolute path ( https://192.168.10.25/application/) and from internet appears that try to access with internal ip, and this link es incorrect from external site We only need to access from intranet to multiple internal application that are in external server and we like to restrict to minimal access from internet. All the application that are in the smae server of intranet are working. The second problem is with https and reverse proxy in our firewall appears some errors with packets (not valid packets), and with https seems to work. What can I do to solve this problems (absolute path and ssl problem) Thanks
