    Hi guys, I'm having trouble with one particular issue, I was hoping someone could help me out. I've completed the MVC Music Store tutorial, and now I'm trying to add some administrator functionality - practice as I will have to do this in an MVC application in my job. The application is using the aspnet membership api, and what I have done so far is created a view to list the users. What I want to be able to do, is click on the users name in order to change their password. To try and carry the username to the changeUserPassword controller (custom made). I registered a new route in the global.asax.cs file in order to display the username in the URL, which is working so far. UserList View <%: Html.RouteLink(user.UserName, "AdminPassword", new { controller="StoreManager", action="changeUserPassword", username = user.UserName }) %> Global.asax.cs routes.MapRoute( "AdminPassword", //Route name "{controller}/{action}/{username}", //URL with parameters new { controller = "StoreManager", action = "changeUserPassword", username = UrlParameter.Optional} ); So now the URL looks like this when I reach the changeUserPassword view: http://localhost:51236/StoreManager/changeUserPassword/Administrator Here is the GET changeUserPassword action: public ActionResult changeUserPassword(string username) { ViewData["username"] = username; return View(); } I wanted to store the username in ViewData as I would like to use it in the GET changeUserPassword for display purposes, and also as a hidden value in the form. This is in order to pass it through to enable me to reset the password. Having debugged through the code, it seems that 'username' is null. How can I get this to work so that the username carries over from the Html.RouteLink, to the changeUserPassword action?     Given two related tables (reports, report_fields) where there can be many report_fields entries for each reports entry, I need to allow the user to enter new report_fields, delete existing report_fields, and re-arrange the order. Currently I am using a DetailsView to handle the editing of the reports. I added some logic to handle report_fields, and currently it allows you to succesfully re-arrange the order, but i'm a little stumped as to the best way to add new items, or delete existing items. The basic logic I have is that each report_fields is represented by a . It has a description as the text, and a field for each field in the report_fields table. I use JQuery Sortable to allow the user to re-arrange the LIs.     Hi, I keep receiving this error in my ASP.NET web app (below). I give the Network Service account rights to the specified folder, it runs fine for a while, but then within a day or two the error reoccurs, as the Network Service account has been removed from the rights for the folder. Adding it again fixes it, but why does it keep reocurring? Could it be anything to do with using Interop components (such as WMI)? Here's the full error: Server Error in '/DriveMonitor' Application. Whenever an item is selected in the dropdown control the styling is completely removed from all of the list items. How can I prevent this from happening? Our transatlantic project conference calls are getting confusing due to the various terms people use to describe the ASP.NET piece. Indeed, ASP.NET has its' own project terminology including 'Web Site' and 'Web Application' to both of which one can add a 'Web Service'.   • Refresh a control on the master page after postback

    Hi all! What i am trying to do here is to show a couple of validation messages in form of a bulletlist, so i have a Div on my master page containing a asp:bulletlist. Like this: <div> <asp:BulletedList ID="blstValidationErrorMessage" runat="server" BulletStyle="Disc"> </asp:BulletedList> </div> When i then click the Save button from any of my pages (inside the main contentPlaceHolder) i create a list of messages and give this list as datasouce like this: blstValidationErrorMessage.DataSource = validationMessageCollection; blstValidationErrorMessage.DataBind(); The save button is located inside an updatepanel: asp:UpdatePanel runat="server" ID="UpdatePanel" ChildrenAsTriggers="true" UpdateMode="Conditional" Nothing happens, i can see that the datasource of the bulletlist contains X items, the problems must arise because the Save button is inside an update panel and the elements outside this updatepanel (master page controls for example) is not refreshed. So my question is, how do i make the bulletlist refresh after the postback? Thanks in advance.

  • Adding Items to an Inner (Nested) ListView

    I have 2 asp:ListView controls, one embedded in the other (OuterListView and InnerListView respectively). I am trying to add an asp:linkbutton in the InnerListView layout that will allow the user to add an item to the InnerListView. Unfortunately, when I handle the OnClick event in the linkbutton control, I can't figure out how to get a handle on the asp:linkbutton's parent ListView from within the codebehind handler. Obviously, there is no global handle since there are multiple inner listviews. I can link code if necessary.
