  • How do I disable the network connection from .Net without needing admin priveledges?

    - by Brad Mathews
I may be SOL on this but I thought I would give throw it out for possible solutions. I am writing a computer access control service to help me control my kids' computer use. Plan on open sourcing it when I have it working. It is written in VB.Net and needs to work on XP through 7. I am running into all sorts of security and desktop access issues on Windows 7. The service needs to run as admin to execute the NetSh command to disable the network. But I cannot interact with the desktop from the service so I IPC to a UI to handle other stuff, but I still cannot detect from the service if the desktop is locked. Argghh! I could get it all working from a hidden windows form app if I could just lick the one piece that needs admin permissions: disabling the network. It does no good if a kid logs on and denies the popup asking if the program should run as administrator and he says no. Also windows 7 will not start a program set to run as admin using HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run Anyone know how to get this working? Or have an outside the box solution? Thanks! Brad

I've tried removing white space, but no luck. Any ideas? If one of you can help it would be much appreciated.

  • OnChange not firing in IE11

    - by bulletproof
    The date picker we use is created in a javascript library. It has a dropdown for the month and year and when these change it fires an onChange event to run a function that refreshes the dates displayed. Below is the function that creates the calendar. function makeCalendar(intWhatMonth,intWhatYear,bViewOnly) { if (bViewOnly) {intWhatMonth-=1;} var strOutput = ''; var intStartMonth=intWhatMonth; var intStartYear=intWhatYear; var intLoop; var strTemp=''; var strDateColWidth; dteCur.setMonth(intWhatMonth); dteCur.setFullYear(intWhatYear); dteCur.setDate(dteToday.getDate()); dteCur.setHours(0);dteCur.setMinutes(0);dteCur.setSeconds(0);dteCur.setMilliseconds(0); if (!(bViewOnly)) { strTemp='<form name="spiffyCal">'; } // special case for form not to be inside table in Netscape 6 if (scNN6) { strOutput += strTemp +'<table width="210" border="3" class="cal-Table" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"><tr>'; } else { strOutput += '<table width="210" border="3" class="cal-Table" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">'+strTemp+'<tr>'; } if (!(bViewOnly)) { strOutput += '<td class="cal-HeadCell" align="center" width="100%"><a href="javascript:'+this.varName+'.clearDay();"><img name="calbtn1" src="'+strDefBtnImgPath+'btn_del_small.gif" border="0" width="12" height="10"></a>&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href="javascript:'+this.varName+'.scrollMonth(-1);" class="cal-DayLink">&lt;</a>&nbsp;<SELECT class="cal-ComboBox" id="cboMonth" NAME="cboMonth" onChange="'+this.varName+'.changeMonth();">'; for (intLoop=0; intLoop<12; intLoop++) { if (intLoop == intWhatMonth) strOutput += '<OPTION VALUE="' + intLoop + '" SELECTED>' + msNames[intLoop] + '<\/OPTION>'; else strOutput += '<OPTION VALUE="' + intLoop + '">' + msNames[intLoop] + '<\/OPTION>'; } strOutput += '<\/SELECT><SELECT class="cal-ComboBox" id="cboYear" NAME="cboYear" onChange="'+this.varName+'.changeYear();">'; for (intLoop=this.minYearChoice; intLoop<this.maxYearChoice; intLoop++) { if (intLoop == intWhatYear) strOutput += '<OPTION VALUE="' + intLoop + '" SELECTED>' + intLoop + '<\/OPTION>'; else strOutput += '<OPTION VALUE="' + intLoop + '">' + intLoop + '<\/OPTION>'; } strOutput += '<\/SELECT>&nbsp;<a href="javascript:'+this.varName+'.scrollMonth(1);" class="cal-DayLink">&gt;</a>&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href="javascript:'+this.varName+'.hide();"><img name="calbtn2" src="'+strDefBtnImgPath+'btn_close_small.gif" border="0" width="12" height="10"></a><\/td><\/tr><tr><td width="100%" align="center">'; } else { strOutput += '<td class="cal-HeadCell" align="center" width="100%">'+msNames[intWhatMonth]+'-'+intWhatYear+'<\/td><\/tr><tr><td width="100%" align="center">'; } firstDay = new Date(intWhatYear,intWhatMonth,1); startDay = firstDay.getDay(); if (((intWhatYear % 4 == 0) && (intWhatYear % 100 != 0)) || (intWhatYear % 400 == 0)) msDays[1] = 29; else msDays[1] = 28; strOutput += '<table width="210" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="2" border="1"><tr>'; for (intLoop=0; intLoop<7; intLoop++) { if (intLoop==0 || intLoop==6) { strDateColWidth="15%" } else { strDateColWidth="14%" } strOutput += '<td class="cal-HeadCell" width="' + strDateColWidth + '" align="center" valign="middle">'+ msDOW[intLoop] +'<\/td>'; } strOutput += '<\/tr><tr>'; var intColumn = 0; var intLastMonth = intWhatMonth - 1; var intLastYear = intWhatYear; if (intLastMonth == -1) { intLastMonth = 11; intLastYear=intLastYear-1;} for (intLoop=0; intLoop<startDay; intLoop++, intColumn++) { strOutput += this.getDayLink(true,(msDays[intLastMonth]-startDay+intLoop+1),intLastMonth,intLastYear,bViewOnly); } for (intLoop=1; intLoop<=msDays[intWhatMonth]; intLoop++, intColumn++) { strOutput += this.getDayLink(false,intLoop,intWhatMonth,intWhatYear,bViewOnly); if (intColumn == 6) { strOutput += '<\/tr><tr>'; intColumn = -1; } } var intNextMonth = intWhatMonth+1; var intNextYear = intWhatYear; if (intNextMonth==12) { intNextMonth=0; intNextYear=intNextYear+1;} if (intColumn > 0) { for (intLoop=1; intColumn<7; intLoop++, intColumn++) { strOutput += this.getDayLink(true,intLoop,intNextMonth,intNextYear,bViewOnly); } strOutput += '<\/tr><\/table><\/td><\/tr>'; } else { strOutput = strOutput.substr(0,strOutput.length-4); // remove the <tr> from the end if there's no last row strOutput += '<\/table><\/td><\/tr>'; } if (scNN6) { strOutput += '<\/table><\/form>'; } else { strOutput += '<\/form><\/table>'; } dteCur.setDate(1); dteCur.setHours(0);dteCur.setMinutes(0);dteCur.setSeconds(0);dteCur.setMilliseconds(0); dteCur.setMonth(intStartMonth); dteCur.setFullYear(intStartYear); return strOutput; } this.makeCalendar=makeCalendar; We have recently upgraded to IE11 and it is not firing this event anymore. I've tested this in an earlier version of IE and also in Chrome and it works as expected. The functions called from the anchor tags are working as expected. Creating a dropdown with an onChange event in html works in IE11. Has anyone come across anything like this in IE11? I have checked the console and it is showing no errors.

  • What is the big deal with SSL?

    - by xarzu
What is the big deal with SSL? My interenet website hosting provider has sold me an SSL line. All I know is that for what I want to do with PayPal, I need to have a folder that is denoted beginning with https:// and this is what an SSL line is. But it seems that they have a hard time setting it up. I wonder if I can just go ahead and do it for myself. I mean, some third party has send me confirmation and even what seems to be some sort of long numeric certificate.

  • Inheriting from the web client class

    - by robUK
Hello, C# 2008 I am not sure how much work there is to inheriting from the web client class. Currently I am using it in my project. And I can't change to anything else. The customer would like to have a timeout after a certain period of time. The web client doesn't have this. So rather than re-invent the wheel, I am thinking of inheriting from the web client and adding this property. Do you think this is a suitable solution? Could it mean more work just to add this. What is the easiest way to go about this? Many thanks,

  • SharePoint 2007 Publishing site and Audience Targeting in Web Part

    - by Robert Vukovic
In a Publishing site I have web part that has to show news items from the list that has Audience Targeting field. I am using CAML query to retrieve small number of last news items. Is it possible to specify Target Audience in the CAML query ? If not, how should I do it ? Retrieve all results and than apply filter in a loop ? I am practically duplicating Content Query Web Part and I need Audience Targeting in my custom web part.

  • Raise the time-out for a single webservice

    - by Carra
My web configuration looks as follows: <system.web> <compilation debug="false"/> <httpRuntime executionTimeout="90"/> </system.web> This is fine for most webservices but one webservice has a query that is running a very long (5 minutes) time and will be stopped before it has finished. Is it possible to set the runtime to 5 minutes for this webservice alone? I've thought about running the database query async (fire and forget) but it doesn't seem possible with sybase/oracle through ODBC.

  • How to make JQGrid scroll properly in IE6?

    - by mcv
I've got a JQGrid that needs to scroll. It works fine in Firefox, but in IE6, the grid stays stationary while the rest of the content scrolls underneath it. What might be a complicating factor is that the grid is inside tabs, inside a dialog. I've googled all over the place, but I can't find a solution for this problem, so I turn to Stackoverflow. Does anyone here know what could cause this behavior? I'm using jqgrid 3.5.3, should that matter.

  • How to resize table via javascript in IE?

    - by MartyIX
I've got this table: <table id="correctness" style="overflow: hidden;"> <tr><td style="overflow: hidden;"> <div id="correctness-message"></div> <span class="hide"> <button type="button" class="hide" onclick="new DisplayEffect('correctness').Hide(500);">Hide</button> </span> </td> </tr> </table> and a function for resizing the table: function resize(element, size) { element.style.height = size + "px";}; which is called for a certain amount of time (e.g. 1 second) with the ID of table (i.e. "correctness") in order to resize the table from zero height to its full height. This code works in Firefox and Chrome but it doesn't work in IE8. What it does is that it displays right away whole table even thought the height set in "resize" method is much lower. It seems that the cell sets the height of parent table and not the other way around. Is it possible to change the behaviour? I like changing the height of the table better because I can set visibility of the table easily. Thanks for any help!

  • IE8 BHO tab problem

    - by simil
I am developing an IE8 BHO in C#. One of the functions of the BHO is to maintain a list of website pairs visited by the user. I add the pair (url1, url2) to the list if the user visits url2 by clicking on a link present at url1. I will be using this info to show the ie history in a nice way as opposed to the default behaviour of showing a long list of visited websites (something along the lines of the Firefox addon Voyage ). In my BHO, I am currently using the BeforeNavigate2 event to find the URL the user is going to visit. This works fine as long as the page is opened in the same tab. But, how to find if the user opens the link in a new tab/new window? Is there a way (other than IPC) in which we can find the url from which the user came from? Thanks, simil

My generated javascript code is: field = form.elements['district.name']; var error = "Enter only alphabets for district"; if (continueValidation && field.value != null && !field.value.match("^[a-zA-Z ]*$")) { addError(field, error); errors = true; } I tried to mock up by putting the same code in a function and calling it in onclick event. The method addError() throws the exception and the reason is field variable. If I change it to field[0], it works fine. How to fix this error?

  • Html string replace a span's class doesn't work in IE?

    - by SeanJA
Someone tried to recreate smarty in js: // actually from a template file, not hardcoded in the javascript html = '<span class="{test}">yay</span>'; html = change(html, 'test', 'foo bar'); function change(html, key, value){ html = html.replace('{'+key+'}',value); html = html.replace('%7B'+key+'%7D',value); return html; } element.innerHTML = html; In FF this works fine (as expected): yay In IE 7/8 and probably 6... it gives me this: <span class="foo" bar="">yay</span> Why does it create the extra attribute instead of doing what I expected it to do?

  • What is IE's Maximum Parallel Connection Accross All Hosts

    - by timeitquery
Based on the IE documentation on MSDN IE 8 supports up to 6 parallel connections per server and IE 6,7 support 2. What is the upper limit of parallel connections accross all the hosts? So if I have 60 hosts, 8 requests per host, so 360 requests in the HTML page - does it mean that IE 8 will have 360 connection in parallel and IE 6 or 7 would have 120? (ignoring the html rendering time, and if call is blocking or not)

  • Why is zIndex not working from IE/Javascript?

    - by Vilx-
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" /> <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7" /> <title>Problem demo</title> </head> <body> <div style="background:red; position:relative;" id='div1'>1. <div style="background:lime; position: absolute; width: 300px;height: 300px; top: 3px; left: 30px" id="div2">3.</div> </div> <div style="background:blue;position:relative;color: white" id="div3">2.</div> <script type="text/javascript">/*<![CDATA[*/ window.onload= function() { // The container of the absolute DIV document.getElementById('div1').style.zIndex = 800; // The lowest DIV of all which obscures the absolute DIV document.getElementById('div2').style.zIndex = 1; // The absolute DIV document.getElementById('div3').style.zIndex = 1000; } /*]]>*/</script> </body> </html> In a nutshell, this script has two DIV elements with position:relative and the first of them has a third DIV with position:absolute in it. It's all set to run on IE-7 standards mode (I'm targeting IE7 and above). I know about the separate z-stacks of IE, so by default the third DIV should be beneath the second DIV. To fix this problem there is some Javascript which sets the z-orders of first and third DIV to 1000, and the z-order of the second DIV to 999. Unfortunately this does not help. If the z-indexes were set in markup, this would work, but why not from JS? Note: This problem does not exist in IE8 standards mode, but I'm targetting IE7, so I can't rely on that. Also, if you save this to your hard drive and then open it up, at first IE complains something about ActiveX and stuff. After you wave it away, everything works as expected. But if you refresh the page, the problem is there again.

  • Redeclared javascript global variable overrides old value in IE

    - by Yousuf Haider
(creating a separate question after comments on this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2634410/javascript-redeclared-global-variable-overrides-old-value) I am creating a globally scoped variable using the square bracket notation and assigning it a value inside an external js file. In another js file I declare a var with the same name as the one I just created above. Note I am not assigning a value. Since this is a redeclaration of the same variable the old value should not be overriden as described here: http://www.w3schools.com/js/js_variables.asp Create 2 javascript files with the following content : Script1 //create global variable with square bracket notation window['y'] = 'old'; Script2 //redeclaration of the same variable var y; if (!y) y = 'new'; alert(y); //shows New instead of Old in IE Include these 2 files in your html file <html> <head></head> <body> <script type="text/javascript" src="my.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="my2.js"></script> </body> </html> Opening this page in Firefox and Chrome alerts 'old' which is the expected behavior. However in IE 8 the page will actually alert 'new' Any ideas on why this happens on IE ?
