  • How do I produce an external URL as part of a replace_html call in Ruby on Rails?

    - by vlasits
Basically, I am attempting to render an external website (the url of which is stored in the database) into a page in my Ruby on Rails app. I have a field in my model 'search' called 'search' that contains web addresses with the form 'www.example.com' or 'example.com'. I am trying to use a link_to_function call with replace_html to replace the 'maincontent' div with an iframe tag using the value of 'search' in the current instance as the src for the tag. My current attempt is the very ugly code below. I'd be grateful for either of the following types of responses: How can I rewrite the concatenation string to work correctly? How can I get the same effect (replacing the current content of the "mainContent" div with an iframe tag using a different method? (I had to modify the code before to remove the < from the iframe) link_to_function h(search.title) do |page| page.replace_html 'mainContent', 'iframe id="embedded" src="http://" + #{search.search} />' end

  • How important is the website logo on a page?

    - by meo
I have stopped to insert "img" tags for the logo of the page. Because its not an image that is part of the content, its a design element but its still a information I want to have control over. So I just write the title in a "a" element as display: block, overflow: hidden and I push the text out with some padding. I think thats a good solution for SEO because you are keeping control of how important the logo should be on a page. But now my dilemma is starting. How important is the logo of a page? "A list apart" puts the logo in a h1 element. But is the logo really that important? On article pages you have two H1 elements (the logo and the title of the article) Most of the sites just use a img balbal /a, but I don't like this solution. Because I just want to use img for images that are part of the content... Its kinda philosophical question, I hope you can give me some input or some articles to read about that...

  • Problem with table in php

    - by user225269
    I'm trying to create a table in php that would show the data on the mysql database based on the check box that is checked by the user. As you can see in this screen shot, it will have problems when you did not check on a checkbox before the one that will be the last: http://www.mypicx.com/04282010/1/ Here is my code: if($_POST['general'] == 'ADDRESS'){ $result2 = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM student WHERE ADDRESS='$saddress'"); ?> <table border='1'> <tr> <th>IDNO</th> <th>YEAR</th> <th>SECTION</th> <?php if ( $ShowLastName ) echo "<th>LASTNAME</th>" ?> <?php if ( $ShowFirstName ) echo "<th>FIRSTNAME</th>" ?> <?php if ( $ShowMidName ) echo "<th>MIDNAME</th>" ?> <?php if ( $ShowAddress ) echo "<th>ADDRESS</th>" ?> <?php if ( $ShowGender ) echo "<th>GENDER</th>" ?> <?php if ( $ShowReligion ) echo "<th>RELIGION</th>" ?> <?php if ( $ShowBday ) echo "<th>BIRTHDAY</th>" ?> <?php if ( $ShowContact ) echo "<th>CONTACT</th>" ?> </tr> <?php while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result2)) {?> <tr> <td><?php echo $row['IDNO']?> </td> <td><?php echo $row['YEAR'] ?> </td> <td><?php echo $row['SECTION'] ?></td> <td><?php if ( $ShowLastName ) echo $row['LASTNAME'] ?></td> <td><?php if ( $ShowFirstName ) echo $row['FIRSTNAME'] ?></td> <td><?php if ( $ShowMidName ) echo $row['MI'] ?></td> <td><?php if ( $ShowAddress ) echo $row['ADDRESS'] ?></td> <td><?php if ( $ShowGender ) echo $row['GENDER'] ?></td> <td><?php if ( $ShowReligion ) echo $row['RELIGION'] ?></td> <td><?php if ( $ShowBday ) echo $row['BIRTHDAY'] ?></td> <td><?php if ( $ShowContact ) echo $row['S_CONTACTNUM'] ?></td> </tr> <?PHP } ?> </table> <?PHP } mysql_close($con); ?> What can you recommend so that the output will not look like this when you one of the checkbox before a checkbox is not clicked: http://www.mypicx.com/04282010/2/

  • What do browsesr use to auto suggest values in web forms?

    - by nedlud
If I come back to a web site after having filled in a form previously, the browser remembers my username (for example). I'm not talking about cookies remembering user names and passwords, but the way a browser will suggest a value for a previously submitted field. What controls this behaviour? My issue at the moment is that I have login forms on several small apps all running under the one domain. (eg www.example.com/app1/login/ and www.example.com/app2/login/). If I use my user name for app1, then go over to app2 where I use a different username, it only ever auto suggests my app1 user name. How can I change this behaviour? Do browsers use the fields ID to help remember this stuff? If I change the ID of the fields in the login form, will they auto suggest the correct values in future?

  • Horizontally spacing a row of images evenly

    - by Tesla
I have a few rows of images like so <div class="row"> <img src="image.jpg" alt=""> <img src="image.jpg" alt=""> <img src="image.jpg" alt=""> <img src="image.jpg" alt=""> <img src="image.jpg" alt=""> </div> Each image has a different width, and there is also a different number of images on each row (4-6). I want to space the images evenly in the row, the row has a fixed width of 960px. I could do this by calculating the total empty space for each row and then dividing it among the images for a margin, but I was hoping there was something simpler that I could apply to every row instead of having to calculate and code a separate one for each row.

  • Image on mouseover takes space on PageLoad.

    - by Ram
Hello, I am trying to show an image on Mouseover and hide it on Mouseout. I am successful in mouseover and mouseout but the image is actually taking the space around the text though i have visibility as hidden.. The text is surrounded with the space of image but the image is displayed on mouseover. Here is the code: <td valign="middle" class="table_td td top" style="width: 347px"> <div id="Style16" style="position:relative; height:100%; left:50%; bottom:700%; visibility:hidden; border:solid 0px #CCC; padding:5px"><img src="images/window-decal-image.gif"></div> <span class="feature_text" style="cursor:pointer" onmouseover="ShowPicture('Style16',1)" onmouseout="ShowPicture('Style16',0)" id="a16">Storefront Window Decal</span> <span class="feature_text_small">(5"x3.5" double sided decal)</span></td> <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> function ShowPicture(id,Source) { var vis, elem; if (1 == Source) { vis = "visible"; } else if (0 == Source) { vis = "hidden"; } else { throw new RangeError("Unknown Flag"); } if (elem = document.getElementById(id)) { elem.style.visibility = vis; } else { throw new TypeError("Element with id '"+id+"' does not exist."); } return vis; } </script>

  • jQuery - making sure content is loaded before it's faded in?

    - by Kenny Bones
Hi, Nick Craver really helped me out alot with this code in this thread http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2743443/jquery-can-someone-help-stitching-jquery-code-with-ajaxcomplete/2743791#2743791 And it is working. But I notice that there's a small delay after I've clicked a link and before the content is actually loaded. It's not very intense content that's loaded either so I think it's got something to do with the order which things happen in the script. The original code looks like this: $('.dynload').live('click', function(){ var toLoad = $(this).attr('href')+' #content'; $('#content').fadeOut('fast',loadContent); $('#ajaxloader').fadeIn('normal'); function loadContent() { $('#content').load(toLoad,'',showNewContent()) } function showNewContent() { $('#content').fadeIn('fast',hideLoader()); //Cufon.replace('h1, h2, h3, h4, .menuwrapper', { fontFamily: 'advent'}); } function hideLoader() { $('#ajaxloader').fadeOut('normal'); } return false; }); The new code looks like this: $(function() { $('.dynload').live('click', function(){ $('#ajaxloader').fadeIn('fast'); $('#ajaxloaderfridge').fadeIn('fast'); var href = this.href + ' #content'; $('#content').fadeOut('fast',function() { $(this).load(href,'', function(data) { createMenus(); $('#ajaxloader').fadeOut('fast'); $('#ajaxloaderfridge').fadeOut('fast'); $('#content').fadeIn('fast'); Cufon.replace('h1, h2, h3, h4, .menuwrapper', { fontFamily: 'advent'}); }); }); return false; }); }); $(createMenus); function createMenus() { $('#kontrollpanel .slidepanels').kwicks({ min : 42, spacing : 3, isVertical : true, sticky : true, event : 'click' }); } In the original code, #content is faded out, then the function "loadContent" is started. Which is basically what is happening in the new script as well isn't it? And when I was using the old code, the content just faded out and faded in really fast and smooth and with no small pause delay before the content arrived.

  • Array of Sentences?

    - by user1869915
Javascript noob here.... I am trying to build a site that will help my kids read predefined sentences from a select group, then when a button is clicked it will display one of the sentences. Is an array the best option for this? For example, I have this array (below) and on the click of a button I would like one of these sentences to appear on the page. <script type="text/javascript"> Sentence = new Array() Sentence[0]='Can we go to the park.'; Sentence[1]='Where is the orange cat? Said the big black dog.'; Sentence[2]='We can make the bird fly away if we jump on something.' Sentence[3]='We can go down to the store with the dog. It is not too far away.' Sentence[4]='My big yellow cat ate the little black bird.' Sentence[5]='I like to read my book at school.' Sentence[6]='We are going to swim at the park.' </script> Again, is an array the best for this and how could I get the sentence to display? Ideally I would want the button to randomly select one of these sentences but just displaying one of them for now would help. Thanks

  • How to give the appearance of a button with a <div>?

    - by user246114
Hi, I'm looking at the buttons used on twitter's home page, specifically the big orange 'signup' button. I see it is defined like this: <p id="signup-btn"> <a id="signup_submit" href="/signup"> <span>Sign Up</span> </a> </p> are they just using css to give the orange button appearance (which may just be a jpg), and also using css to specify the roll-over appearance (another jpg), and finally a third state for mouse-click (another jpg) to give the impression of a real clickable button? If that's how it works, what should I look for to do the same thing? In my case I just want to make a button I guess, like: <div class='mybutton'>Hello!</div> .mybutton { bgcolor: red; bgcolor-mouseover: yellow; bgcolor-mousedown: green; } yeah something like that would be great, Thanks

  • How to delete a file with javascript?

    - by Tommy
Did not have luck with these examples: Javascript File remove Javascript FSO DeleteFile Method Deleting a File There are no special permissions on the file. Is there a way to do this in JQuery? • Alternative to css3 not selector

    - by Raynos
Are there any alternatives to the :not css3 selector that are compliant with IE8 (and quirks mode). Either in css or javascript/jquery that emulates the selector or something similar. I am using *:not as follows below. Feel free to recommend a solution that avoids the use of :not completely. @media screen { #printable { visibility: hidden; } } @media print { *:not(#printable) { visibility: hidden; } #printable { position: absolute; visibility: visible; } } Note that the use of :not is tied to the use of @media print so just using a simple jQuery solution to apply css to $(":not(#printable)") won't work without being clever. Including an entire library like ie9.js or selectivirz isn't an option as it can effect various other parts of the pages and would involve a large section of re-testing. a jsfiddle that shows it working in browsers that support :not http://jsfiddle.net/Raynos/TjKbz/

  • named anchors not working in safari

    - by David
Hi there, can anyone explain why named anchor tags would not work in safari but work fine in other browsers: ie, ff, opera, chrome. I have some links to different areas of the same page and nothing happens when clicking on them in safari only. All the other browsers mentioned take me to that area of the page. I have tried using both the id and the name attribute for the anchors but neither makes any difference.

  • Can an iframe pop up a Lightbox-style box?

    - by Alex
Hi. This question isn't about popping up an iframe inside a Lightbox; rather, it's about an iframe on a page that can launch its own Lightbox-style box in the page that contains that iframe. I'm thinking this can't be possible, because the iframe contains the contents of the other URL and whatever Lightbox that URL launches has to fit within the iframe. Thanks.

  • Creating a page selector with JSP/JSTL

    - by zakSyed
I am working on a project where I am required to build a page somewhat similar to the one you see when you visit a website like blockbuster. When you click on browse more you are taken to a page with a bar on top with different page numbers and a drop down to select the number of pages you want to view on that page. I want to include a feature like that on my page but I am not sure where to start. In my page I have list of 200 items which I want to display page by page. I was suggested to use custom tags, but is there a more simpler or efficient way to create that functionality. My web application uses Spring MVC framework and is coded entirely in Java. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
