• NVIDIA same chipset, but different implementations - what is the difference?

  I have planned to buy a graphics card. When searching for a particular chipset (e.g. GTX 460) I find cards of different vendors (i.e. Gigabyte, Palit, PNY, ...). I can figure out differences in frequency, memory, and equipment. When I read test reports, usually a particular NVIDIA card is compared with its ATI/AMD "counterpart" - have not really found a comparison of all vendors for a particular NVIDIA chipset. So in order to make a decision: a) Are the drivers all the same for all the cards of a particular chipset (and provided by NVIDIA or the vendor?) b) How to figure out which card actually to buy. OK, I choose chipset, and memory, and check the card has the required ports, but then ....

  If you have to deal with a lot of spreadsheets, you’re probably really bored right now. You also might be wondering how to turn a row into a column, or a column into a row. Here’s how to do it with Google Docs Spreadsheets. If you’re an Excel user, you’re also in luck, because we’ve already shown you how to turn a row into a column, or vice-versa. It won’t make you any less bored though. Convert a Row to a Column (or backwards) The first thing you’ll need is a column or a row of information that you want to convert into the opposite. For our example, we’ve got this set of data that we created by using the Auto Fill options in Google Docs. Now in another cell, you’ll need to use the TRANSPOSE function, which you can use by simply typing in the following: =TRANSPOSE( And then selecting the cells with the mouse, or manually typing in the range of cells you want to copy. The final function in this example was: =TRANSPOSE(A1:A11) Finish it off with the final ) character to complete the function, hit the Enter key, and there we are… the column was transposed over to the right. You can use the same thing to turn columns into rows, or rows into columns—just change the range you are looking for. • Printing from a Linux using an Acer Aspire Netbook

  A friend asked me to check why their Linux Acer Aspire netbook can't print to their HP printer. When I plugged in the USB cable, the a "balloon" popped up on the netbook saying it was installing the printer. But the printing does not work. I was able to get into a Settings area and click on Print Test Page but nothing happened. If it was Ubuntu, I would go into the Log File Viewer, but I couldn't find that on whatever Linux flavor the Acer is running. I couldn't even figure out how to get to a terminal (shell) window. I tried searching the HP and Acer sites but nothing seems to apply to this issue.

I've tried to film it using my iPhone, but it ain't that good. :( Should I try to open it? o_O C'mon, looking for ideas here! :) edit: Here's an alike video. It's not moving anymore for now... I hope it isn't dead! Right when I've found a possible solution along with many ideas on that link: suction cup; monitor off and lamp on to attract it out; scratching the screen (made it move a little); and got to know there's no warranty for this "feature" (also known as bad design in a jargon). edit2: It's been "fixed" on its own. • Roundcube can't connect to PostgreSQL database

  I'm trying to install Roundcube on a CentOS 5.5 server, with a PostgreSQL 8.1.22 database. The first page of the installer script, that checks for the presence of php libraries and such, gives me green OKs across the board. I even went out of my way to install the optional ones. Page two generates me two configuration files (main.inc.php and db.inc.php) which I put into place. Page three is where things go wrong: Check DB config DSN (write): NOT OK(MDB2 Error: connect failed) Make sure that the configured database exists and that the user has write privileges DSN: pgsql://roundcube:password@localhost/roundcubemail The info you see there (user roundcube, password password, server localhost and database roundcubemail) is all correct. The database roundcubemail belongs to the user roundcube and it has write permissions. I have no clue why it can't connect to that database. I'm managing it with phpPgAdmin, which is running on the very same Apache, on the same server!

• Shared IMAP Folders in GMail

  Our office is using Google Apps for Domains for our email. Our customer support guys use IMAP clients (such as Thunderbird and Outlook) to check both their individual email addresses and a "collective" support email address. On the support account, there are several folders for organizing email threads by client. When a user gets a support-related email (either to the support email or their individual email address) they file away the email in one of thse shared folders. Many of us greatly prefer the Gmail interface (with Folders4Gmail enabled on the Better Gmail 2 add-on for Firefox, for label-to-folder support) over Thunderbird or Outlook. However, there is no way to "share" email threads, complete with labels, between accounts. The desired end result is that a user logs into their individual account and can see both their account and the support account and can pass emails (labels and all) between the two accounts - or at least from their individual account into the support account. Any ideas?

• High number of ethernet errors. Tool for testing the ethernet card?

  I have an Asus Sabertooth X79. I often get corrupted files. I checked the RAM, but memtest finds no errors. To avoid the possibility of disk errors, I tried copying the files to tmpfs. If I copy from the network, I get md5sum mismatches about once every 10 times using a 6Gb file. Copying from RAM to RAM, I didn't get mismatches. I get a very high number of errors in ifconfig (compared to others PCs I just took as reference, which have 0 with much more traffic). Here is an example RX packets:13972848 errors:200 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:101 The motherboard is new, but do you think there're some problems with it? What could I use to test the (integrated) network adapter? What else do you think I should double check? --edit-- I tried another NIC, it gives a lot of Corrupted MAC on Input. Disconnecting: Packet corrupt lost connection. I noticed that another PC downloads at 11.1MB/s without problems. This pc at 66.0 MB/s. Is there any way to try to limit the speed?

• How do I implement a Bullet Physics CollisionObject that represents my cube like terrain?

  I've successfully integrated the Bullet Physics library into my entity/component system. Entities can collide with each other. Now I need to enable them to collide with the terrain, which is finite and cube-like (think InfiniMiner or it's clone Minecraft). I only started using the Bullet Physics library yesterday, so perhaps I'm missing something obvious. So far I've extended the RigidBody class to override the checkCollisionWith(CollisionObject co) function. At the moment it's just a simple check of the origin, not using the other shape. I'll iterate on that later. For now it looks like this: @Override public boolean checkCollideWith(CollisionObject co) { Transform t = new Transform(); co.getWorldTransform(t); if(COLONY.SolidAtPoint(t.origin.x, t.origin.y,t.origin.z)){ return true; } return false; } This works great, as far as detecting when collisions happen. However, this doesn't handle the collision response. It seems that the default collision response is to move the colliding objects outside of each others shapes, possibly their AABBs. At the moment the shape of the terrain is just a box the size of the world. This means the entities that collide with the terrain just shoot away to outside that world size box. So it's clear that I either need to modify the collision response or I need to create a shape that conforms directly to the shape of the terrain. So which option is best and how do I go about implementing it? It should be noted that the terrain is dynamic and frequently modified by the player.

  I am just beginning to dip my tow into game programming and have been reading up on SDL, SFML, OpenGL, XNA, MonoGame and of course DirectX. I notice that the docs say that for the windows platform the SDL API calls through to DirectX for higher perf. ( http://www.libsdl.org/intro.en/whatplatforms.html ) Microsoft have said that for Metro Game Apps you can only use DirectX (which means no XNA, no OpenGL, no SFML, etc, etc) My question is: If SDL just wraps DirectX calls will I (we) be able to use SDL to bring games to the new Metro WinRT environment and Windows 8 marketplace? This would be great if possible. Additionally as WinPhone 8 is supposedly built on Win8 then this could mean SDL would be available on the win phone in the future too. EDIT: Based on DeadMG's answer I have installed Visual Studio 11 (beta) in Windows 8 Consumer Preview (CP) and went file-New to check project types. The project types: "Blank Application", "Direct2D Application" and "Direct3D Application" look of interest. I have selected "Direct2D App" but SDL generates its own window when you call: SDL_INIT Is it possible to link/setup the SDL window to point to the Direct2D surface in the this project?

• Amazon how does their remarkable search work?

  We are working on a fairly large CRM system /knowledge management system in asp.net. The db is SQL server and is growing in size based on all the various relationships. Upper management keeps asking us to implement search much like amazon does. Right from there search you can specify to search certain objects like outdoor equipment, clothing, etc. and you can even select all. I keep mentioning to upper management that we need to define the various fields to search on. Their response is all fields...they probably look at the search and assume that it is so simple. I'm the guy who has to say hold on guys we are talking about amazon here. My question is how can amazon run a search on an "all" category. Also one of the things management here likes is the dynamic filters. For instance, searching robot brings up filters specific to a robot toy. How can I put management in check and at least come up with search functionality that works like amazon. We are using asp.net, SQL server 2008 and jquery.

• NetBeans Sources as a Platform

  By default, when you create a new NetBeans module, the 'development IDE' is the platform to which you'll be deploying your module. It's a good idea to create your own platform and check that into your own repo, so that everyone working on your project will be able to work with a standardized platform, rather than whatever happens to be beneath the development IDE your using. Something else you can do is use the NetBeans sources as your platform, once you've checked them out. That's something I did the other day when trying to see whether adding 'setActivatedNodes' to NbSheet was sufficient for getting UndoRedo enabled in the Properties Window. So that's a good use case, i.e., you'd like to change the NetBeans Platform somehow, or you're fixing a bug, in other words, in some way you need to change the NetBeans Platform sources and then would like to try out the result of your changes as a client of your changes. In that scenario, here's how to set up and use a NetBeans Platform from the NetBeans sources. Run 'ant build platform' on the root of the NetBeans sources. You'll end up with nbbuild/netbeans containing a subfolder 'platform' and a subfolder 'harness'. There's your NetBeans Platform. Go to Tools | NetBeans Platform and browse to nbbuild/netbeans', registering it as your NetBeans Platform. Create a new NetBeans module, using the new NetBeans Platform as the platform. Now the cool thing is you can open any of the NetBeans modules from the NetBeans Platform modules in the NetBeans sources. When you change the source code of one of these modules and then build that module, the changed JAR will automatically be added to the right place in the nbbuild/netbeans folder. And when you do a 'clean' on a NetBeans Platform module, the related JAR will be removed from nbbuild/netbeans. In other words, in this way, by changing the NetBeans sources, you're directly changing the platform that your custom module will be running on when you deploy it. That's pretty cool and gives you a more connected relationship to your platform, since you're able to change it in the same way as the custom modules you create.

• Computer is totally crashed

  my computer kept restarting on its own at random times varying from 1 minutes, to 20 minutes(then goind in a constant restart loop every ~10 seconds). I had to turn it off and wait minutes or hours before attempting to restarting to go further in the boot process. Now, it just does not turn on. I posted this before: Computer crashes every 2 to 10 minutes but I did not have the time to check the temperature. I don't want to pay to get it checked up, but I want to know what is wrong. Is the processor fried? Thank you

• IPSec tunnel between FortiGate and iPhone / iOS - Works except for DNS / Wins

  I have configured my Fortigate with a new VPN IPSec tunnel to allow the iOS Cisco client to connect. That works fine. I can RDP to my servers, browse to my servers via IP address, etc. But, the iPhone does not resolve my internal IP addresses. • Detect two specific objects collision with bullet physics

  I have got some problem with defining collision between objects in my game using bullet physics. I know that objects are colliding with each other simultaneously and I don't have to do anything more. However I need to be noticed when one object collides with one of the rest. It is quite awkward written so I will tell what I want to achive. I have got ball which hits wall from tubes. Everything is on the floor. When ball hits wall some fragments fall down to infinity. So I have got bellow floor btStaticPlaneShape. This is place where most of objects is stoping and then I can start another action. But not all of them. So I've been trying to use function checkCollideWith but it isn't good method as it was said in reference and wiki. So I've checked method described in wiki http://bulletphysics.org/mediawiki-1.5.8/index.php/Collision_Callbacks_and_Triggers called contact information. This isn't good method either because it is extremly hard to identify what is what when colliding. You have to also remember that ball is almost all the time colliding with something - floor, wall or eart level. So is there any other method to check what is colliding with what?

The first two toolbar items are each singular in their function and insert the following types of text. A look at the special characters available for your use. The wiki code menu. The HTML menu… And the BB code menu. Here is a quick sample using the HTML menu…much better than doing it manually. This should definitely help speed things up throughout the day. Our only disappointment during testing was not being able to add additional items (i.e. characters, tags) to the toolbar at this time. Conclusion While a new toolbar may not be for everyone this extension can certainly prove useful when you need to quickly add special characters or coding in website text areas. • Decal implementation

  I had issues finding information about decals, so maybe this question will help others. The implementation is for a forward renderer. Could somebody confirm if i got decal implementation right? You define a cube of any dimension that'll define the projection volume in common space. You check for triangle intersection with the defined cube to recieve triangles that the projection will affect. You clip these triangles and save them. You then use matrix tricks to calculate UV coordinates for the saved triangles that'll reference the texture you're projecting. To do this you take the vectors representing height, width and depth of the cube in common space, so that f.e. the bottom left corner is the origin. You put that in a matrix as the i, j, k unit vectors, set the translation for the cube, then you inverse this matrix. You multiply the vertices of the saved triangles by this matrix, that way you get their coordinates inside of a 0 to 1 size cube that you use as the UV coordinates. This way you have the original triangles you're projecting onto and you have UV coordinates for them (the UV coordinates are referencing the texture you're projecting). Then you rerender the saved triangles onto the scene and they overwrite the area of projection with the projected image. Now the questions that i couldn't find answers for. Is the last point right? I've never done software clipping, but it seems error prone enough, due to limited precision, that the'll be some z fighting occuring for the projected texture. Also is the way of getting UV coordinates correct?
