I'm interested in this field,but I'm only familiar with PHP so far.
If not,can you recommend a tiny but not so bad project that's easy enough to learn?
I understand that echo is slightly faster, and print can be used as a function, but I've been reading an e-book on PHP, and the writer is using print, instead of echo, to output very simple text.
print "Your name is $name\n";
So my question is, when would it be appropriate for me to use print as opposed to echo?
Say I wanted to print a ÿ (latin small y with diaeresis) from it's Unicode/UTF-8 number of "U+00FF" or hex of "c3 bf". How can I do that in PHP?
Note: In order for it show correctly in a browser I know that the first step is
header('Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8');
In continuation off of this question, what are the PHP statements I need to accomplish this:
curl -is -F 'J:A-login=BTDT::Action::Login' -F 'J:A:F-address-login=EMAILADDRESS' -F 'J:A:F-password-login=PASSWORD' http://hiveminder.com/splash | grep -o 'JIFTY_SID_HIVEMINDER=[0-9a-f]\+'
The flags and fields are still mysterious, and I've not the time presently to swim through docs to figure out how this translates. I do at least understand the | grep ... portion, though.
My classifieds website uses mainly PHP and MySql.
On error, (for example if a variable isn't found), I would like to have an error-page to show, is this possible? And I mean for every error to point to the same error-page.
I am thinking about htaccess, but maybe there are other ways also?
Same with MySql, how is it done there?
Thanks
My site does some short ajax call in JSON format, using jQuery.
At client-side i'd like to send object just passing it in ajax function, without being forced to wrap it in an object literal like this: {'JSON_Obj' : myJSON_Obj }.
For the same reasons, at server-side i'd like to manage objects without the binding of $_GET['JSON_Obj'] or $_POST['JSON_Obj'].
For example, using file_get_contents("php://input"), i can manage POST requests in that way, but in GET format it doesn't work.
Any suggestions?
Can anybody please let me know, How open an AES encrypted .zip?. I need an encryption method should be 128-bit or 256-bit AES. As well as this should be a PHP process.

Hi,
I'm trying to use PHP to create a file containing a list of phone numbers.
It's working OK however if the phone number begins with zero, the digit is dropped from the excel file.
Does anyone know how to set the formatting correctly so that it remains in place?
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks.
I know how to write program in PHP and implementation of MVC model. but I really want to practice coding like the coding in real world??? I was wondering is there any specific example or book which can show me the tricks or logic and the way professional programmers consider about coding??? Do I need to learn frameworks like Zend ???
I wrote a html scraper to scrape my various social identites, so I can make a real time 'biography' website.
However after using php curl_exec, I find that texts that I have quoted, end up being formatted in a weird character set.
ex: "I love dogs" gets formatted to ’I love dogs ’
"I hate cheese" gets formatted to “I hate cheese
How do I either scrub these characters, or set curl not to format quotes like this.
Also, I have turned off magic_quotes.
is there a built in function in php that would combine 2 strings into 1?
example: $string1 = abcde, $tring2 = cdefg
combine to get: abcdefg
if the exact overlapping sequence and the position are known, then it is possible to write a code to merge them.
TIA

function register_template(){
print_r(func_get_args());
# the result was an array ( [0] => my template [1] => screenshot.png [2] => nice template .. )
}
register_template( # unkown number of arguments
$name = "my template",
$screenshot = "screenshot.png",
$description = "nice template .. "
)

BUT , I want the result array as $key = $value form , $key represents the parameter name.
Traits have been one of the biggest additions for PHP 5.4. I know the synatax and understand the idea behind traits, like horizontal code re-usage for common stuff like logging, security, caching etc.
However, I still dont know yet how I would make use of traits in my projects.
Are there any open source projects that already use traits? Any good articles/reading material on how to structure architectures using traits?
I'm running my own (albeit, basic) benchmarks in a linux-based sandbox. However, I'd love to find a per-function or per-task performance / benchmark reference or utility for comparison.
Does this exist?
Of course I've done my own fair diligence / searching and have so far come up empty handed..
(I'm primarily interested in information relevant to PHP 5.3)
Thanks very much! :)

I'm looking for a "SINGLE INSTALLER" solution for PHP Development.
Is there anything out there which will give me a nice IDE, Web Server, Debugger, Database, etc, on a single install image (*.msi or *.exe)?
This of course would be completely opposite of Eclipse PDT, which requires you to search and locate a bunch of additional components which never quite work together.
Iam a little bit confused by php function declare.
What exactly is an single tick, i thought 1 tick = one line of code?
But if i use:
function myfunc() {
print "Tick";
}
register_tick_function("myfunc");
declare(ticks=1) {
echo 'foo!bar';
}
The script prints :
"Tick" 2 Times??
i need in an php file three drop down boxes or multiple select boxes.
