  • Trouble adding success flag to onbeforeunload

    - by Dirty Bird Design
having issues with onbeforeunload. I have a long form broken into segments via a jquery wizard plug in. I need to pop a confirm dialog if you hit back, refresh, close etc on any step but need it to NOT POP the confirm dialog on click of the submit button. had it working, or at least I thought, it doesn't now. <script type="text/javascript"> var okToSubmit = false; window.onbeforeunload = function() { document.getElementById('Register').onclick = function() { okToSubmit = true; }; if(!okToSubmit) return "Using the browsers back button will cause you to lose all form data. Please use the Next and Back buttons on the form"; }; </script> 'Register' is the submit button ID. Please help!

  • how to test if a string is a valid UTF16 string?

    - by superb
I am using mongodb and javascript to do some string processing. Now I got some error like: Sun May 23 07:42:20 Assertion failure JS_EncodeCharacters( _context , s , srclen , dst , &len) scripting/engine_spidermonkey.cpp 152 0x80f4f7e 0x80f8794 0x811525b 0x811a953 0x8119fc4 0x8111bc5 0x81b408e 0x81c4ee7 0x81b4a10 0x817a881 0x817a7d8 0x817a6e2 0x811e1bb 0x80a777b 0x80a8f8a 0xb7cb2455 0x80a37a1 mongodb-linux-i686-1.4.2/bin/mongo(_ZN5mongo12sayDbContextEPKc+0xfe) [0x80f4f7e] After doing some google, I find that JS_EncodeCharacters return false if the input is not a valid UTF16 string. (if spidermonkey is build with UTF-8 enabled) So I was wondering how to test if the input string if a proper UTF16 string? so I can skip such kind of string to avoid problem ... Thanks

  • Identify the checkbox that is checked

    - by lucky
Hello Everyone, I have 2 checkboxes in a form and onclick of these, some php code needs to be executed and based on the result of the code, the checkbox is checked or unchecked. So i have written onclick = document.formName.submit(); Now it is triggering the same page and i am able to write the code. I am not able to differentiate which checkbox is checked. I don't want to use the procedure of:- calling javascript and then storing the value of the checkbox in a variable and making this variable as invisible. I would like to write something like document.formName.submit('checkbox1'). So that i should be able to handle the value of this or i dont know. Please suggest me an alternative method or better approach.

  • Disable page redirects using Greasemonkey

    - by Tomer Cohen
A website I wish to tweak is using window.location in order to redirect specific users to a blocking page. That website is doing it in plain <script> tag, so it is impossible to bypass it by overriding the onload event using document.body.setAttribute('onload','');. Is there another way to inject my code to the page without using Firefox extensions such as NoScript? <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title></title> <script type="text/javascript"> if (1) window.location="http://example.net" </script> </head> <body></body> </html>

  • How can I show the "Upload" tab in CKEditor?

    - by Hermet
Hi guys, I've checked the CKEditor developer documentation and also some solved questions in here about this editor but couldn't find one which helped me. The thing is, I have set up CKEditor and when I get into the images dialog I can't see any "Upload" tab. I am trying to set up a custom file uploader, and according to the documentation is something like this: <script type="text/javascript"> CKEDITOR.replace( 'cuerpo', { filebrowserBrowseUrl : '/imgs/explorador.php', filebrowserUploadUrl : '/imgs/subirImagenes.php' }); </script> Thank you, and apologies for my English.

  • How to use FBJS to get the language preference of the user?

    - by ed.talmadge
I'm modifying an existing FaceBook application. The FaceBook application is generated by another application, so I don't have much control over it. I can only add html/javascript. My goal is to use FBJS to detect the current language setting of the user and display a different message depending on their language. For example, if the user has their language setting set to Spanish, then I would like to show a message in Spanish on my FaceBook application. How can I do this?

  • Trying to make my leaflet map work on internet explorer

    - by user1270657
I have been tearing my hair out of late trying to get my web map working on internet explorer. It's working flawlessly on every other major browser but none of the content will load in IE. Anyone out there who's good at browser testing that could help out? I know the leaflet javascript api, which I'm using for this project, supports IE in theory. In practice this isn't working out too well... Link to a live version of the web map: https://mywebspace.wisc.edu/axler/SLRE_Deep_Map/index2.html Let me know if there is anything else I could add that would help in deciphering this problem... Thanks!

  • jQuery UI get the sorted position of LI element in UL

    - by PeterBZ
I'm using jQuery UI's sortable for my UL list. Each time the user sorts the list, I want each li element to update it's "position" attribute to it's position in the list. <ul> <li position="1">a</li> <li position="2">b</li> <li position="3">c</li> </ul> So when a user swaps c with a, the position will also update. I tried to use .each but it seems that javascript doesn't follow the order of how the LI elements are displayed but the order of the element's creation.

  • Ensuring dynamically added Dojo Dijits are registered in the DOM.

    - by Pro777
I need to dynamically create Dijits to add N rules to a particular form. Currently I am adding them with the following javascript. var value = new dijit.form.Select({ id: "value_" + counter, store: ValueStore, searchAttr: "description" }, "stateSelect" + counter); value.placeAt(form, "last"); value.startup(); This is creating the element correctly in the form, but it is not associated when the form actually posts. I know Dojo is recognizing the Dijit because the styling is correct. How can I make sure they are included in the DOM form?

  • How do I save a file generated by an OS X Dashboard Widget?

    - by Weston C
I've got a web app that I'm porting to an OS X Dashboard widget. The web app generates some data on the client side using JavaScript, and then, when the user wants to save it, sends it to a server-side script which relays the data back with the Content-disposition: attachment; HTTP header, triggering a save-file dialog in most browsers. I've tried duplicating this in the Dashboard environment. The Widget simply disappears. I don't know, but I suspect that it may be actually navigating to the unfamiliar content. So, how do I trigger a "save file dialog" -- or, failing that, use any method at all to save the data the Widget generates as a file?

  • link div to input text in firefox

    - by golf_nut
I'm using google maps api to have a map show up on my website where visitors can also find directions. I have a starting point setup and an end point. Both are text areas. The start is empty, but I want the end point to be populated with the address from a div that I already have in the page. I have the javascript as: var address = document.getElementById("address").innerText.replace(/\n/g, " "); It works in Chrome, but Firefox shows the text in the endpoint box as 'undefined.' And Firebug is giving me - document.getElementById("address").innerText is undefined [Break On This Error] var address = document.getElementB...ress").innerText.replace(/\n/g, " "); Any help is appreciated. • local match kickoff time

    - by Usagi Dreamy
I'm working on a sports website and need to convert the server's match start time to local match start time. After much googling, I figured the fastest and most accurate way is to get the GMT offset value in JavaScript. The trouble is, I can't pass the GMT offset value to PHP. I've tried using both the PHP session and cookie variables, but both are always empty. The website doesn't require a user account, so there isn't any stored GMT value in the database. I'm trying to auto-detect each user's local timezone every time he/she visits the website, and then calculate the local match start time based on the timezone offset. Can someone please advise me? Thanks.

  • Open Safari from within Opera Mini on the iPhone

    - by Ican Zilb
Now that Opera Mini is becoming so popular in the App store I want to effectively warn my web site visitors that the rendition they see in Opera Mini is far from what I meant them to see and redirect them to my page in Mobile Safari, so they can enjoy HTML5 and CSS3. I've been banging my head around that task all day long, but I can't seem to find a solution. My hope lies in the custom URL schemes, but seems Opera Mini handles all schemes which usually Safari does. Would be great if there's a scheme like safari://www.domain.com which opens ONLY in Safari, so I can redirect the visitors to it. Does anybody know a solution to that problem? --edit Just to make myself clear - browser detection is not the problem (I'm doing Javascript for 13 years now) the question is if there's a way to invoke the Safari app on the iPhone from within a web page which is being viewed in Opera Mini.

  • Coping with weak typing

    - by John Leonard
I'm a front end Flex developer peeking over the wall at html. One of the things I have a hard time with is weak typing in Javascript. I know many developers say they prefer it. How do I stop worrying and learn to love the weak typing? Are there best practices for variable naming that help make var types human readable? Another thing I have trouble with is getting by without my trusted compiler errors and warnings. I'm getting along with firebug. Is there anything else I should have in my toolkit?

  • Hiding Text in ie7

    - by user356849
So I have this text generated by a javascript plugin. <a class="className">Text</a> a.className { background: url(images/a-image.png) no-repeat; } But the "Text" shows on top of the image... Now... with any respectable web browser, I can use color: rgba(0,0,0,0); to solve the problem, but IE7 doesn't obey standards of any sort. Any ideas?

  • Html POST and return the same form with the values

    - by vtortola
Hi, I'm learning web development, and I don't know how do this simple thing. I've a html form with "text", "radio" and "checkbox" controls, that POST the values to the server and it saves them, for example in a file. I save the POST in raw format: key=value&key=value&key=value&key=value and I'd like that when the user open the form back, return the form with the saved values already in the controls. Is there any neat way to do this? Or should I parse the POST string and set the values one by one in the controls at the server level? I think, I could return the saved data in a hidden input control, and after with a javascript I could do a getElementById(key) and set the value to each input control... but do I need to put the post string in a special format? How would you do it? Thank you in advance.

  • How do you determine up/down latency of a web app.

    - by Brodie
I am trying to work out how to calculate the latency of requests through a web-app (Javascript) to a .net webservice. Currently I am essentially trying to sync both client and server time, which when hitting the webservice I can look at the offset (which would accurately show the 'up' latency. The problem is - when you sync the time's, you have to factor in latency for that also. So currently I am timeing the sync request (round trip) and dividing by 2, in an attempt to get the 'up' latency...and then modify the sync accordingly. This works on the assumption that latency is symmetrical, which it isn't. Does anyone know a procedure that would be able to determine specifically the up/down latency of a JS http request to a .net service? If it needs to involve multiple handshakes thats fine, what ever is as accurate as possible. Thanks!!

  • Modifying a global variable from <a href>

    - by a_m0d
I have created some code to popup a confirm dialog if a user tries to leave a page without saving their changes. However, I don't want the confirmation dialog to popup if the user has clicked the "Save" button. I have some code at the top of my file which looks like this: var confirmClose = false; window.onbeforeunload = function(evt) { if (confirmClose == true) { message = "There are unsaved changes on this page. Are you sure you wish to leave?"; if (typeof evt == 'undefined') { evt = window.event; } if (evt) { evt.returnValue = message; } return message; } } Further down on the page I have a link which looks like this: <a href="javascript:confirmClose=false;$('#stockForm').submit()" title="Save" class="button positive" id="stockFormSubmit">Save</a> However, this doesn't seem to work - it doesn't seem to change the value of confirmClose, and changing it to window.confirmClose didn't help either. What am I doing wrong here?
