  • Open browser window with formed URL after posting a PHP form

    - by Gotjosh
So here's the question. I have this php form that collects some data, after posting the data gets parsed an URL is constructed. After this URL is constructed, I'd like to open a new browser window for the user with this newly constructed URL. How can I actually accomplish this? Is this something that can only be done with javascript? If so... How? I already have the code in place and i've tested it works that construct the URL after posting the form, now it's just a matter of opening a new window with the URL.

  • How can I programmatically copy all of the style attributes from one DOM element to another

    - by stu
I have a page with two frames, and I need to (via javascript) copy an element and all of its nested elements (it's a ul/li tree) and most importantly it's style from one frame to the other. I get all the content via assigning innerhtml, and I am able to position the new element in the second frame with dest.style.left and dest.style.top and it works. But I'm trying to get all the style information and nothing's happening. I'm using getComputedStyle to get the final style for each source element as I loop through each node then and assigning them to the same position in the destination nodelist and nothing happens to visually change the style. What am I missing?

  • Need advice with HTML table

    - by misha-moroshko
I would like to code an HTML table with messages like this: The table will contain messages that will spread over first N columns (N may change). Lets call these N columns, the message area. Each message is located on X contiguous cells in the message area. X may also change. Each message has a name that contains words separated with underscores. How would you recommend to code this table in Javascript/jQuery such that: It would be easy to define a message (start cell, end cell, color, name) The name will break only after underscores (rather than in the middle of the word)

  • need to run php script when form is submitted

    - by Brad
I have a form that needs to run a php script once the submit button is clicked, it needs to be ajax. <form method="post" action="index.php" id="entryform" name="entryform"> <input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit" onclick="JavaScript:xmlhttpPost('/web/ee_web/include/email-notification.php', 'entryform')" /> </form> In this situation, using if(form posted) { get results and run script } is not an option, I need to run the script externally, that is why I need it to execute the email-notification.php at onclick When I point my web browser to domain.com/include/email-notification.php - it runs perfectly. • nodejs, mongodb - How do I operate on data from multiple queries?

    - by Ryan
Hi all, I'm new to JS in general, but I am trying to query some data from MongoDB. Basically, my first query retrieves information for the session with the specified session id. The second query does a simple geospacial query for documents with a location near the specified location. I'm using the mongodb-native javascript driver. All of these query methods return their results in callbacks, so they're non-blocking. This is the root of my troubles. What I'm needing to do is retrieve the results of the second query, and create an Array of sessionIds of all the returned documents. Then I'm going to pass those to a function later. But, I can't generate this array and use it anywhere outside the callback. Does anyone have any idea how to properly do this? http://dpaste.org/wXiE/

  • Using jQuery to auto-populate a form field from another form field

    - by Jon
Has anyone used jquery to take data from one form field and put it into another? I'm trying to create a form that when one text input is filled out a second is auto-populated with the first letter of the word that is in the first text input. I'm thinking I can limit the second text input to one character to help get the desired result, but I'm not having luck getting jquery to get the second text input and auto-populate once the first is entered. Here is the code I'm using: <script type="text/javascript"> jQuery(document).ready(function($) { $('#textBox1').keyup(function(){ if($.trim($('#textBox2').val()) == '') $('#textBox2').val($(this).val().substring(0, 1); }); }); </script> Also, do I need to have any in the text input fields of the form other than matching "textBox1" id/names? Any suggestions?

  • IE's responseXML.getElementsByTagName() unable to handle non English character ?

    - by trix
I have a javascript that does this (http is your XMLHttpRequest object) var r = http.responseXML.getElementsByTagName('item'); The issue is variable r is always an empty list if the response contains non-English character (r.length is 0). The response header is correctly set Content-Type: text/xml;charset=ISO-8859-1 This is what the response from the webserver looks like <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?> <d> <r> <item value="jmob" label="John Möb"/> </r> </d> It happens only in IE (both IE6 and IE8), works in Firefox and Chrome. If items contain only English characters, it works fine. Is there a workaround for this ?

  • Change the value of an existing onclick function

    - by Mark Peach
I have a page that is pulling in via an iframe a page of html content from a pre-existing content management system, whose content I can not directly change. I want to use jquery to alter some of the links and button locations dynamically. For links within the page I was able to change the href attr values of <a href="/content.asp">more</a> from content.asp to content2.asp using $("a[href^='/content.asp']") .each(function() { this.href = this.href.replace("content.asp", "content2.asp"); }); But the page pulled in also has form buttons that contains javascript onclick functions e.g. <INPUT type="button" value="Add to basket" onClick="document.location='/shopping-basket.asp?mode=add&id_Product=1076';"> I basically want to use jquery to select any such buttons and change the shopping-basket.asp to shopping-basket2.asp How can I select these buttons/onclick functions and change the location string?

  • Avoid postback on gridview event

    - by purushottam
1 I've got popup (using javascript) working in a kind of gridview. When you click a button on one grid, it displays a popup window containing another grid of information, based on the row clicked in the first grid. This works well... I've enabled editing in the grid that is popped up. When you click edit though, the popup window disappears. If I click the display button in the first grid though to bring the popup window visible again it displays, and is now in edit mode. Is there a way to make postbacks in the popup not close the popup?

  • How do I get a title or some text to appear in a Silverlight mediaplayer when switching to FullScree

    - by Matt
I am working on an ASP.NET website with VB.NET code-behind. I have a Silverlight mediaplayer object on one of the pages and the user may view that video in FullScreen mode. When changing to full-screen mode they are losing the title and chapter of the video series they are viewing. I have tried accessing properties and searched the web for examples on how I could put a title or some text over the player when in FullScreen mode to give the user an indication of where they are currently at while viewing each video. I am using OnClientMediaEnded to move through the videos after each video has ended so they are able to watch the whole series once in FullScreen mode. I am using a call to javascript in with this method to do that and want to know if there is any way to get a title or text up there and then change once the video switches to the next in the series? The controls on the player also go away when going into FullScreen mode so any help with that would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks

  • js function causing all other functions not to work inside js file

    - by Camran
In safari 4 and all explorer browsers, whenever I try to call a function inside a javascript file which contains this function below, that first function isn't called. So calling function1 will not work if function2 is inside the same .js file, explanation? Here is the code which makes the problem. Whenever I remove this function, everything works fine and all functions work fine. So this function is causing a problem. function addOption(selectbox, value, text, class, id_nr ) { var optn = document.createElement("OPTION"); optn.text = text; optn.value = value; optn.id = value; if (class==1){ optn.className = "nav_option_main"; } selectbox.options.add(optn); } Any ideas why? Thanks

  • How to determine ASP.NET's generated ID's from codebehind?

    - by Matthew Scharley
In ASP.NET, when you give a tag an ID it generates a unique HTML id for the element based on the control hierachy, ie. <asp:Panel ID="test" runat="server"> ... </asp:Panel> <!-- Becomes... --> <div id="plc_lt_zoneContent_PagePlaceholder_PagePlaceholder_lt_test_test"> ... </div> Is there some way of determining the generated id in the codebehind file? I need to generate some Javascript that uses the id.

  • jQuery: how to pick unique IDs ?

    - by Seerumi
Hello. New to whole this jQuery (and javascript altogether, heh) and so far it's been excellent, but now I'm in a small pickle. Let's say I have list of forms generated from SQL database and every single one of them has to have unique id, so how I can select the specific item that is to be manipulated (changing values via php). the $("#submit").click(function()) will trigger every submit buttons on the page, so how I can the #submit to be some random id that I clicked. There might be a smarter way, but I'm new to this so try to bear with me. thought of passing the unique value with onClick="myfunction(unique_id)", but don't know how it goes with jQuery. hope this made any sense

  • How to window.open with a toolbar in Google Chrome?

    - by brahn
The following javascript opens a pop-up in Firefox, Safari, IE, and Google Chrome: window.open("http://google.com", "foo", "toolbar=yes, location=yes, menubar=yes") However, in Google Chrome the toolbar (with the usual forward and back buttons, etc.) does not appear on the popped-up window. (Tested on both Windows and Mac.) How can I fix this? I would like the user to be able to navigate forward and back using the tools with which they are most familiar. Thanks!

  • Determine coordinates of rotated rectangle

    - by MathieuK
I'm creating an utility application that should detect and report the coordinates of the corners of a transparent rectangle (alpha=0) within an image. So far, I've set up a system with Javascript + Canvas that displays the image and starts a floodfill-like operation when I click inside the transparent rectangle in the image. It correctly determines the bounding box of the floodfill operation and as such can provide me the correct coordinates. Here's my implementation so-far: http://www.scriptorama.nl/image/ (works in recent Firefox / Safari ). However, the bounding box approach breaks down then the transparent rectangle is rotated (CW or CCW) as the resulting bounding box no longer properly represents the proper width and height. I've tried to come up with a few alternatives to detect to corners, but have not been able to think up a proper solution. So, does anyone have any suggestions on how I might approach this so I can properly detect the coordinates of 4 corners of the rotated rectangle?

  • How does one validate html that's generated from JS running in the browser?

    - by Henry Rose
The page in question has very skeletal html sent over the wire to facilitate the building of a complicated UI in javascript. I'm now encountering a strange browser compatibility issue that feels very much like I've got a markup problem somewhere on the page. I've validated the page as it comes across the wire using the W3C tool and ensured there are no issues in that html. I've also tried validating the output of running on the browser console: document.getElementsByTagName('html')[0].outerHTML I find that the output of the above introduces lots of new issues, such as removing the trailing '/' in self closing tags. This added noise is distracting, but it also makes me uneasy about validating this method. How do you validate markup that's rendered client side?

  • Common causes of slow performing jQuery and how to optimize the code?

    - by Polaris878
Hello, This might be a bit of a vague or general question, but I figure it might be able to serve as a good resource for other jQuery-ers. I'm interested in common causes of slow running jQuery and how to optimize these cases. We have a good amount of jQuery/JavaScript performing actions on our page... and performance can really suffer with a large number off elements. What are some obvious performance pitfalls you know of with jQuery? What are some general optimizations a jQuery-er can do to squeeze every last bit of performance out of his/her scripts? One example: a developer may use a selector to access an element that is slower than some other way. Thanks

  • Dynamically load _gallery_ (not album) in SlideShowPro using SWFObject

    - by bccarlso
Hi all. I have been successful in dynamically loading an album in SSP before, but using SSP Standalone. I did it like this: var flashvars = { xmlFilePath: "http://site.com/ssp_director/images.php?album=5" } What I'm looking to do now, though, is dynamically load a gallery when the page loads, using text entered in the javascript, or flashvars I'd assume. I'm using ActionScript 3 with this, so I'm not sure if I have to do something to the SSP instance in Flash. I'm not very good with AS3, so following advice or tutorials is about all I can muster. I'm also using SSP Director, so my gallery XML URLs would be similar to above in the example code. I'd be elated if this is possible, otherwise I will have to find an alternative solution. Thanks so much for help!
