• Web service failing when installed in seperate project from the website...

  I am totally new to web services and cannot get mine to work. My setup is on VS 2008 using IIS. I have one solution file with 3 projects in it: website, code, and services. If I put my webservice into my website and call it locally then it will work fine (it's just a hello world web service). I want to put the service into a different location for use from multiple sites. I don't know what I'm doing wrong - i've read so much conflicting info regarding disco files, access files, silverlight, flash, java, etc. I just looking for quick simple steps to create a web service that I can access from javascript and deploy to a seperate website. End goal is to have functionality in webservices so that website will call via JS and run much smoother in the loading time and async calls. Do I need to create a disco file? Do I need to configure security? -- I know this is prob best, i'm just looking to get it working at all. Do I need to allow cross browser access on IIS or on my hosted server? Are there any quick reference websites that you can recommend? Should I be using WCF as new technology? - I saw this on MSDN but seems to be more for windows apps then web apps. I'm not getting any specific error codes. I have installed the firefox debugging tools (firebug) and I can see what the headers are but I don't know how to interpret them and there is no response being passed back. Any help is appreciated!!!

• Different output between release and Debug

  I can't figure this one out. I can only assume there is some other difference between the release and build applications that is exposing a major issue with my code? Or another difference between the outputs I need to account for. What do I need to do to get the expected output?

• jQuery Code Only Fires On Hard Refresh?

  The XFBML version of the Facebook Registration plugin only loads HTTPS. I need it to load HTTP so my form does not call a security error mismatch between domains. I wrote this code to get the SRC and rewrite it with out HTTPS It works fine on the first load, however on Chrome and Safari it only loads the first time and on HARD refreshes. It does not load on standard reloads or by pressing "enter" on the address bar. • [MVC] logic before dispatcher + controller?

  I believe for a typical MVC web application the router / dispatcher routine is used to decide which controller is loaded based primarily on the area requested in the url by the user. However, in addition to checking the url query string, I also like to use the dispatcher to check whether the user is currently logged in or not to decide which controller is loaded. For example if they are logged in and request the login page, the dispatcher would load their account instead. But is this a fairly non-standard design? Would it violate MVC in any way? I only ask as the examples I've read through this weekend have had no major calculations performed before the dispatcher routine, and commonly check whether the user is logged in or not per controller, and then redirect where necessary. But to me it seems odd to redirect a logged in user from the login area to account area if you could just load the account controller in the first place? I hope I've explained my consternation well enough, but could anyone offer some details on how they handle logged in users, and similar session data?

  I'm trying to add a second SSD to a Centos 6 system. But I get the Error 5 partition table invalid or corrupt at boot. The system already has a single SSD (sdb) and a pair of HDDs (sd{a,c}) in a RAID 1 array from where it boots. It is as if the new SSD assumes one of the devices of the RAID array. Is it?   I'm trying to add a second SSD to a Centos 6 system. But I get the error 22 no such partition at boot. The system already has a single SSD (sdb) and a pair of HDDs (sd{a,c}) in a RAID 1 array from where it boots. It is as if the new SSD assumes one of the devices of the RAID array. Is it? In the SAP BW system (in transaction SM59), I have created, tested and activated the relevant RFC connections. • What should I do to make sure that IIS does not recycle my application?

  I have a WCF service app hosted in IIS. On startup, it goes and fetches a really expensive (in terms of time and cpu) resource to use as local cache. Unfortunately, IIS seems to recycle the process on a fairly regular basis. So I am trying to change the settings on the Application Pool to make sure that IIS does not recycle the application. So far, I've change the following: Limit Interval under CPU from 5 to 0. Idle Time-out under Process Model from 20 to 0. Regular Time Interval under Recycling from 1740 to 0. Will this be enough? And I have specific questions about the items I changed: What specifically does Limit Interval setting under CPU mean? Does it mean that if a certain CPU usage is exceeded, the application pool will be recycled? What exactly does "recycled" mean? Is the application completely torn down and started up again? What is the difference between "Worker Process shutdown" and "Application Pool recycling"? The documentation for the Idle Time-out under Process Model talks about shutting down the worker process. While the docs for Regular Time Interval under Recycling talk about application pool recycling. I don't quite grok the difference between the two. I thought the w3wp.exe is the worker process which runs the application pool. Can someone explain the difference to the application between the two?   Hopefully, I'm going to finish my undergraduate studies next semester and I'm thinking about the topic of my final project. And yes, I've read the questions with duplicate title. I'm asking this from a bit different viewpoint, so it's not an exact dupe. I've spent at least half of my life coding stuff in different languages and frameworks so I'm not looking at this project as a way to learn much about coding and preparing for real world apps or such. I've done lots of those already. But since I have to do it to complete my degree, I felt I should spend my time doing something useful instead of throwing the whole thing out. I'm planning to make it an open source project or a hosted Web app (depending on the type) if I can make a high quality thing out of it, so I decided to ask StackOverflow what could make a useful project. Situation I've plenty of freedom about the topic. They also require 30-40 pages of text describing the project. I have the following points in mind (the more satisfied, the better): Something useful for software development Something that benefits the community Having academic value is great Shouldn't take more than a month of development (I know I'm lazy). Shouldn't be related to advanced theoretical stuff (soft computing, fuzzy logic, neural networks, ...). I've been a business-oriented software developer. It should be software oriented. While I love hacking microcontrollers and other fun embedded electronic things, I'm not really good at soldering and things like that. I'm leaning toward a Web application (think StackOverflow, PasteBin, NerdDinner, things like those). Technology It's probably going to be done in .NET (C#, F#) and Windows platform. If I really like the project (cool low level hacking), I might actually slip to C/C++. But really, C# is what I'm efficient at. Ideas Programming language, parsing and compiler related stuff: Designing a domain specific programming language and compiler Templating language compiled to C# or IL Database tools and related code generation stuff Web related technologies: ASP.NET MVC View engine doing something cool (don't know what exactly...)   I have an activity that I can declare as Launcher category and it launches just fine from the home screen. However, when I try to hook-up the same activity into my SyncAdapter's settings activity and open it from the Accounts & Sync page - MySyncAdapter - (touch account listing) it aborts with a system fatal error (reboots phone).   Hello guys, so, currently I develop Widgets for Smartphones and am going a bit more advanced into fields of data exchange between client and server applications. But if it gets onto the device (also with access to the target network) I receive the 101 Network Error. And as far as I have read, this is due to the "Same-Origin Policy" of XmlHttpRequests? My problem is to really understand that. Although the idea of this policy is clear to me, I'm a bit confused by the fact that another XmlHttpRequest for a Yahoo Weather XML Feed works fine. Now, could anyone be so helpful to enlighten me? Filenames / paths are intact. If I add die() to the bottom of my layout.phtml, I get the page. Something is resetting the headers and sending a blank page.
