  • How do I disable system pop-ups in Windows CE 6?

    What do I have to do to disable all system pop-ups in WinCE 6 R2? I read Mike Hall's post about Kiosk mode [1] but that's not going to work for us because we still want the standard graphical Explorer shell.   • Android Development Eclise - Cant Create a New Android Project - Mac OS

Now, when i press "Finish" on the final step of the wizard it remain open and an empty project with white-marked packages is added to the work branch, I tried to reinstall eclipse and it's sdk+plug, still nothing.   • Can't add client machine to windows server 2008 domain controller

    A bit of background before I dive into the gritty details: I have a single server running Windows 2003 Server where I host my ASP.net website and SQL Server + Reports. I've been creating ordinary windows user accounts to authenticate my users, and I enabled integrated windows authentication with impersonation. I've set up a bunch of user groups which correspond to certain roles (admin, power user, normal user, etc) and I test membership to enable or disable certain features. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the solution, it was quick to setup and I don't have to worry about messing around storing passwords and whatnot. Well, what I'm trying to do now is set up a new environment with 3 servers (Web, SQL, Reports) and I'd like these three servers to share common user accounts. I understand that I could add these three machines to a domain, which means installing Active Directory on one of the machines. I am barking up the wrong tree here? Would you suggest an alternative configuration? Assuming that I stick with AD, I have a couple of questions regarding DNS. To be honest, I'd rather not fiddle around with the DNS settings because my ISP already has their own DNS server which works just fine. It would appear however that DNS and AD are intertwined. Firstly, if I am to create a new domain in called mycompany.net, do I actually need to be the registered owner of that domain name and ensure the DNS entry points to the IP address of the machine hosting AD? Secondly, for the two other machines that I am trying to add to the domain, do I need to fiddle with their DNS settings? I've tried setting the preferred DNS Server IP address to that of my newly installed AD, but no luck. At this point, I can't add the two other machines to the domain. Here are some diagnostics that I have run based on a few suggestions I read on forums (sorry they're in French, although I could translate if needed). I ran nltest, which seems to indicate that the client can discover the domain controller. When I run dcdiag, the call to DsGetDcName fails with error 1722, not really sure what that means. Any suggestions? Thanks!   • Useful Excel keyboard shortcuts

    What keyboard shortcuts do you use in Excel? Things I've discovered recently and found very useful are: Shift + Space - select the current row Ctrl + Space - select the current column Ctrl + Shift + Space - select the block of contiguous cell Ctrl + + - Insert (as in the context menu). If the current row is selected, will insert a new row. Ctrl + - - Delete (as in the context menu). If the current row is selected, will delete entire row. What (apart from the normal cut, copy, paste, etc) do you use? Ctrl + 1 to open the Format dialog. Shift + F2 to add/edit a cell comment. Shift + F2, followed by Esc to select the current cell comment, which can then be moved around with the arrow keys (????) or deleted by pressing Del. Ctrl + ???? to move to the last non-blank cell in a series. This is usually the edge of a table, but not if you have blank cells in the path. Pressing End followed by an arrow key does the same thing. Alt + F11 to open the VBA editor. Alt + = to start a SUM() formula and go straight to selecting cells to be summed. Ctrl + G or F5 to jump to a cell by typing its coordinates (e.g. C3) Ctrl + Home to jump to the top left, usually A1 unless you you are in a frozen split view, in which case it will jump to the top left of the "data" area. Ctrl + ; and Ctrl + Shift + ; to insert the current date and time, respectively. I know Ben Lings already posted this one, but I find it indispensable.

    Hi, I'm having some issues getting apt to install trac correctly on my Ubuntu Jaunty Box. Using the command 'apt-get install trac' I get the following output: root@myserver:~# apt-get install trac Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information...   • Can you "swap" the Sysprep answer file in Windows 7

    I have a load of new Lenovo laptops which I am due to distribute in my company. We are distributed in multiple locations and I want to ship the laptops "boxed" and untouched by IT hand for distribution. We are using LANDesk to do all the software distribution and provisioning, but are currently falling at the first hurdle as when booted, the laptops kick into the Lenovo mini-setup wizard. I assume this is because they have been sysprepped at Lenovo. In order to keep with our (almost) zero touch strategy I want the users to PXE boot into a PE of some sort, which will run a script on startup which replaces the sysprep answer file with one of my own. (i.e. prepopulated with product key, company info etc.) and then reboot to complete Sysprep. The plan is that this will run, and then install the LANDesk agent as a post-sysprep task, which in turn will complete the provisioning. Anyone have any experience / know any pitfalls to look out for / can suggest a suitable, PXE-bootable PE environment? Apologies for the verbosity of the question - it takes a bit of explaining! A number of files were giving me errors when I tried to take ownership or set permissions, and in all my fiddling on a particular file, it somehow got switched to a folder.   • SQL log shipping for reporting

    I would like to create a read-only copy of my SQL Server 2008 database on a secondary server for reporting and analysis. I've been testing log shipping, configured to run every 5 minutes or so. Alas, there appears to be a stumbling block, for exclusive access is required on the target database during the restore, which in turn requires killing all active connections. This is far from ideal, especially if a user is in the middle of running a report. Any better suggestions? Edit : I'm doing this on the Express edition.

  • installer hanging during .net 4.5 framework install

    I am having trouble installing Visual studio 2012 Premium Edition. I kick off the installer for it but it hangs when installing .net 4.5 framework. I have left it for hours but there is no progression in the progress bar. I have downloaded the .net 4.5 framework separately and tried to install that from msi but that also hangs similarly. The only way to kill it is by killing the process. Any ideas how I could resolve this issue, or what I need to do to trouble shoot it further? Any tips?

    Hi all, Being completely new in the webhostingcorner I have a few questions on how to implement/setup a webserver for a SaaS application. I'm about to rent my own server for a new product (CMS) I'm launching in two months. Developing the system wasn't that much of wild ride to me, but a correct way to implement it, is. So lets say this is my situation: I want to host 10 websites for 8 clients. There are 6 single sites, and two clients have two websites they can manage with my software. The CMS must be placed on the server too, all clients are connecting to 1 system The database must be placed Depending on the contract a client makes, the client gets some storage. How to measure the used storage over the DB, FileSystem and email Clients may not, in any case be able to somehow get outside their directory, but from the CMS directory the CMS must be able to create files and dirs in a clients directory (for templates, imagegalleries, widgets, etc, etc). I was thinking about something like a dirstructure like this: ./CMS/ [all CMS files] ./Websites/*/ [all websites] My hostingprovider will install updates to the os (CentOS, latest) and the admin panel (Direct Admin). Is there anybody with experience on this topic? Or do you have some thoughts about it? please join the conversation since I'm completely new to this. Ben

  • Need help diagnosing my machine

    I have something that just slows my computer to a crawl sometimes. Not running anything big. Yesterday all I had running (besides background apps) were Firefox & Windows Explorer and could barely even switch screens. Nothing showing up in the task manager as hogging CPUs. I have all non-essential services stopped (MySQl & MSSQL) unless I need them. I made some restore points not long ago, but they disappeared. This is a development mach with a LOT of apps installed, so I really, really do not want to re-install Windows. So, what I'm looking for are ideas or tools I can use to help diagnose this problem. The only clues I have is this started right after I installed Office 2013 (with Office 2010 still installed as well) installed Visual Studio 2012 (also keeping 2010 as a co-install) and installed MSSQL 2012 (upgrade from 2008, no co-install) Also, computer runs fine in Safe Mode. I've just ran out of ideas of what to check. Any help / suggestions would much appreciated. Thanks P.S. I'm running Win 7 Pro (x64). Office is also 64 bit. Visual Studio & MSSQL are 64 bit if that option was available (not sure).

  • OpenDNS servers initial response is very slow

    I've got a Time Warner cable ISP package (RoadRunner), and the modem they gave me doesn't allow me to specify which DNS servers to use; it always uses whatever the upstream dhcp server gives it. I prefer to use OpenDNS on my home network, so i've configured a couple of my PCs manually in the Windows adapter settings for IPv4 such that their IP addresses are obtained via DHCP, but the DNS server settings are fixed to the OpenDNS server IPs. Now, when I startup Windows on these PCs, it always takes 2-3 minutes to start receiving responses from the DNS servers; any request before that times out. While not debilitating, this is quite annoying. Any ideas why this might be happening?

    Hi there, I am running a VPS server with 6 .net web sites/applications running on it. I am having issues with performance on the server, mainly it running out of memory. I contacted the company that lease the server to me and they told me it was because I also had sql server 2008 express also running on the server. So I went ahead and removed this, uninstalled etc. However I still seem to be having issues. For example at present, looking at resource consumption, the virtual memory is: ID: vprvmem Current Use: 894,328,832 bytes Limit: 1,073,741,824 bytes This means useage of ~80%. Is there any way I can check out exactly that applications, web sites, software is taking up most of the servers memory, so I can look at rectifying it. I feel that 80% is much to high to allow for contingency for a spike in traffic. I have got extra memory resources added to the box recently, but I would prefer finding the source of the problem rather than throwing extra memory at it. Maybe these levels are correct and alls running ok, but would like to investigate it to make sure. My knowledge of hardware is limited as I mostly deal in the spectrum of software. So any tools out there that can help me or any pertient advice.

  • editing automated SharePoint emails

    Sharepoint sends out an automated email when a site collection has reached its quota warning level. The email says: You are receiving this e-mail message because you are an administrator of the following SharePoint Web site, which has exceeded the warning level for storage: https://mysite.xxx.ac.uk/personal/xxx/. To see how much storage is being taken up by this site, go to the View site collection usage summary: https://mysite.xxx.ac.uk/personal/xxx/_layouts/Usage.aspx. The problem is that the usage summary link needs to point somewhere else instead. How can I edit the body of the email to change the link? Thanks.

  • SQL Server Management Studio unable to connect to local instance.

    I'm not a DBA, I'm a developer - and I'm having trouble with SQL Server Management studio. I installed SQL Server 2008 Standard on Windows 2008 Server R2, and according to Sql Server Configuration Manager, I've got two instances: OFFICESERVERS (for sharepoint) and MSSQLSERVER. When I open SQL Server Management Studio I can only discover OFFICESERVERS. I've checked the protocol configuration for both instances and didn't see anything that indicates to me why this would be. Any hints?

  • MATLAB cannot find its own libraries

    I am having a problem with a new installation of MATLAB (2012b) that is cannot find the base enumberation type Simulink.IntEnumType. The specific error text is: specified superclass 'Simulink.IntEnumType' contains a parse error or cannot be found on MATLAB's search path, possibly shadowed by another file with the same name I am quite sure there is no shadowing, so I suspect there is a problem with the installation. Any ideas what could have gone wrong?

  • Cluster FIle System

    We are looking for to choose a clustered file system for our in house appplication. Let me first highlight my requirement. we have a storage and 2 servers at present.We get the data files from remote servers to our server and on both servers we are running our application to access those data and make a final result as per our requirements. In future may be after 3-4 months, we can add another servers in current cluster pool to handle more data load from remote location data senders. So my requirement is that to integrate same storage partition on 2-3 servers , it might be 4-5 more servers in future, My application read data from storage partition and write back to storage partition. Is there any bottleneck / limitation from RHCS , GFS2 or anything.? We are new with RHCS + GFS and all. Can we have any other better approach or someway to deal with our requirement light way? what is the best OS version for this ? how's RHEL 6.4 64 bit ? please share some case study or some gudie reference as per past experiences with such environnmnets Regards, Ben

  • How do I make wallpaper fit both monitors in dual monitor setup?

    I am deploying some custom corporate wallpaper as part of a Windows 7 rollout. Some people will be using dual monitors, and the additional monitors may be either 4:3 or widescreen. I want to use the same wallpaper on both screens (i.e. 2 copies of the same wallpaper, not stretched across both.) If I set the background to "stretch", it uses the aspect ratio of the primary monitor to stretch the wallpaper on both monitors. So, for example, if I have a dual monitor setup using a 4:3 TFT as primary and my (widescreen) laptop LCD as secondary - the image shows on the laptop LCD in 4:3, with a black stripe down either side. I've only noticed this as an issue with my "custom" wallpaper. Both the default MS wallpaper and the built in Lenovo wallpaper don't seem to have this issue. Is this by using "trickery" such as using an image larger than the largest resolution you will have and centering it? (i.e. so you crop out part of the image.) Or can this be done "properly"? I don't want to use 3rd party software to do this, but would happily do a bit of Powershell scripting if this would solve the issue. Thanks in advance, Ben

  • Download folders from dev server to local drive

    I am developing a .net web application on a local environment. I have a dev server that the application is installed on. Within the web application on the dev server I have four folders that I dont have locally and that are controlled by another application. In my day to day development I require the four folders on local PC. I would like to automate the process of pulling the folders from the dev server to my local drive, so I can keep thing in sync. Ideally something like this Run file from main folder (be it a bat file, powershell, some sort of job, open to recommendations) Download 4 folders supplied to it. First download bring everything down, from them on only pull the changes Not sure where to start with achieving this but would appreciate any help would with. I know there are apps out there that do something like this but would like to give a go writing something to do this before I resort to using one of them.

  • How can one convert a Word form to a PDF form while preserving fields?

    I have a Word source document which I'm using to create a PDF form. The first go-round, everything is fine because I can let Acrobat Pro auto-create all the fields. That feature is actually pretty awesome. However, after spending a bunch of time adjusting field sizes and alignments and formats and so on, I want to edit the source document, and now I'm faced with the prospect of doing all that over again. Isn't there some way to add the fields in the source document using the Developer ribbon and have those fields be preserved in the conversion to PDF? If not, what other ways are there to avoid this kind of redundant effort?

  • iOS calendar sync with Exchange 365

    I signed up for an Exchange 365 account with Microsoft Online. I followed the instructions to set up my iPhone to access my mail. However, I can't access the calendar function. When I go into the account settings screen on my iPhone, the options to turn on the calendar, contacts and reminders are missing! (See step 9 on this site to get an idea of what the dialog should look like). Anyone have an idea why those options are missing and how I could activate them? Thanks, Patrick

  • Advanced command line editing for Windows?

    I'm developer who was "born and bred" on Linux and BSD systems, and I've become accustomed to having advanced tools for the console (posix shells like bash, for example). My career has taken a twist that means I'm working in a Windows environment most of the time, and the console capabilities are really poor by comparison. The traditional windows console environment is a complete joke, and even most of the third party attempts at improving things aren't a lot better. PowerShell is a huge step in the right direction, but the console applications themselves are still way behind where unix has been for 20 years. Does anyone know of a PowerShell console application that supports advanced command line editing like posix shells do? I'm particularly interested in emacs-mode editing, and I'd also like to be able to resize my window to an arbirary size, unlike the native console app that comes with Windows.
