  • Unix RPC programming

    Heyy all, I needed some help with ONC RPC programming. My task is to create two-tier client-server architecture wherein one main server (something like a directory) keeps a track of level-two servers and acts as a lookup; the level-two servers exposing some trivial functions, and finally, the clients for level-two servers. The clients ask the directory where a server is located, and then communicate with it. Using RPCGEN, we can create a pair of client-server code; however, the clients in this case need to have stubs for the directory as well as the level-two functions. Being a newbie to RPC, I'm having trouble conceptualizing the way I should code this. How can I call a function from a different server if a client is generated using a different IDL ? Any pointers would be appreciated :) Regards, Abhi

  • How to: WCF XML-RPC client?

    I have built my own little custom XML-RPC server, and since I'd like to keep things simple, on both server and client side, what I would like to accomplish is to create a simplest possible client (in C# preferably) using WCF. Let's say that Contract for service exposed via XML-RPC is as follows: [ServiceContract] public interface IContract { [OperationContract(Action="Ping")] string Ping(); // server returns back string "Pong" [OperationContract(Action="Echo")] string Echo(string message); // server echoes back whatever message is } So, there are two example methods, one without any arguments, and another with simple string argument, both returning strings (just for sake of example). Service is exposed via http. Aaand, what's next? :) P.S. I have tried googling around for samples and similar, but all that I could come up with are some blog-related samples that use existing (and very big/numerous) classes, which implement appropriate IContract (or IBlogger) interfaces, so that most of what I am interested is hidden below several layers of abstraction...

  • Security when using GWT RPC

    I have an POJO in Google Web Toolkit like this that I can retrieve from the server. class Person implements Serializable { String name; Date creationDate; } When the client makes changes, I save it back to the server using the GWT RemoteServiceServlet like this: rpcService.saveObject(myPerson,...) The problem is that the user shouldn't be able to change the creationDate. Since the RPC method is really just a HTTP POST to the server, it would be possible to modify the creationDate by changing the POST request. A simple solution would be to create a series of RPC functions like changeName(String newName), etc., but with a class with many fields would require many methods for each field, and would be inefficient to change many fields at once. I like the simplicity of having a single POJO that I can use on both the server and GWT client, but need a way to do it securely. Any ideas?

    I have a RPC service with the following method: public List<Serializable> myMethod(TransactionCall call) {...} But I get a warning when this method is analyzed, and then the rpc call fails Analyzing 'my.project.package.myService' for serializable types Analyzing methods: public abstract java.util.List<java.io.Serializable> myMethod(my.project.package.TransactionCall call) Return type: java.util.List<java.io.Serializable> [...] java.io.Serializable Verifying instantiability (!) Checking all subtypes of Object wich qualify for serialization It seems I can't use Serializable for my List... I could use my own interface instead (something like AsyncDataInterface, wich implements the Serializable interface) but the fact is that my method will return a list custom objects AND basic objects (such as Strings, int....). So my questions are: Is it a standart behaviour? (I can't figure out why I can't use this interface in that case) Does anyone have a workaround for that kind of situation?

Use a JAXWS/JAXB binding customization to rename the parameter. I have tried several variants of the binding customization, and searched Google for hours, but unfortunately I cannot find a solution to my problem.     I'm doing an XML RPC call in ASP.net with c# and the call returns an Array called userinfo with strings and integers in it and I can't seem to figure out how to parse the data and put it into string and int objects... The only thing that compiles is if I make it an Object in the struct. The int returns fines and is referenced easily.   • Failed sending bytes array to JAX-WS web service on Axis

    Hi I have made a small example to show my problem.   • Unable to set cookie in response header (newcookie doesn't show in external browser) : Jersey jax-rs

    I am trying to set a session cookie from server side : import javax.ws.rs.core.NewCookie; import javax.ws.rs.core.Response; public class Login { @POST @Produces("application/json") @Consumes("application/json") public Response login (String RequestPacket){ NewCookie cookie=null; CacheControl cc=new CacheControl(); cookie = LoginBO.validUser(RequestPacket); cc.setNoCache(true); if(cookie.getValue()!=null) return Response.ok("welcome "+cookie.getValue()).cookie(cookie).cacheControl(cc).build(); else return Response.status(404).entity("Invalid User").build(); } } In eclipse browser: on the client side (using gxt for that) when I print header i get the Set-Cookie field. which is expected. But the browser is not storing the cookie. in external browser: the header doesn't have any set-cookie field. Should I use HTTPServletResponse? But shouldn't the javax.ws.rs.core.Response work as well?

    Hello All, I am trying to write a webservice that takes in an XML string, does parsing of it using DOM and extract particular things I want. My XML string happens to be very long so I do not want to pass it as a @QueryParam or @PathParam. Say If I write that XML string into a file, How do I go about writing a RESTful service that takes in this file, extracts whatever I want and return the results. I am actually trying to extract some number of strings, so my output should probably be an ArrayList having all these strings. Could somebody please shed some light on how I should go about doing this. Thanks in advance

    Hi, Im pretty new to Java Web Services, but I cant find a good explanation anywhere. I have 2 Java web projects within NetBeans. One as a web service and one as a client for that web service. I have also created my own class called "Person", which has what you'd expect: name, dob, etc. I would like to have a web service method called "ListPeople()" that would return an array of "Person" objects. Do I need to have that class in both projects? Should I be serializing the object first? Should I be using JAXB, if so, where do I start? Sorry for the n00b questions, but im confused. What is the normal way of accomplishing this? Thanks in advance

My project is quite big with many services so I need some robust and most automated solution.     As far as I know I can access the web.xml <context-param>s by making my class implement ServletContextListener and use the ServletContext.getInitParam(String) to read them, but it´s cumbersome as only one instance of the class will receive the contextInitialized(ServletContextEvent sce) call, so I need to make the ServletContext an static member of the class. What other ways exist of setting conf params at deployment time and what are the recommended ones?

  • First JSRs Proposed for Java EE 7

    With the approval of Java SE 7 and Java SE 8 JSRs last month, attention is now shifting towards the Java EE platform.  While functionality pegged for Java EE 7 was previewed at least as early as Devoxx, the filing of these JSRs marks the first, officially proposed, specifications for the next generation of the popular application server standard.  Let's take a quick look at the proposed new functionality.Java Persistence API 2.1The first of the new proposed specifications is JSR 338: Java Persistence API (JPA) 2.1. JPA is designed for use with both Java EE and Java SE and: "deals with the way relational data is mapped to Java objects ("persistent entities"), the way that these objects are stored in a relational database so that they can be accessed at a later time, and the continued existence of an entity's state even after the application that uses it ends. In addition to simplifying the entity persistence model, the Java Persistence API standardizes object-relational mapping." (more about JPA)JAX-RS 2.0The second of the new Java specifications that have been proposed is JSR 339, otherwise known as JAX-RS 2.0.   • Wordpress XML-RPC call from Objective C: wp.newComment

    I'm using Eric Czarny's Cocoa XML-RPC framework to make a call to the Wordpress API's. I've downloaded the sample app from Wordpress which gives some good examples. Unfortunately the good examples are for every call EXCEPT wp.newComment. I'm trying to post a comment using the code below and I keep getting an error with a localized description that tells me to check my input parameters. I've checked and rechecked and I don't understand what is wrong. Any ideas?
