• Issues connection to Ubuntu via PuTTy

  I'm not sure this is the appropriate stack exchange site to post this question on. If not, please flag this for migration. I am trying to use PuTTy ssh into my ubuntu machine which is wirelessly connected to the same network. I originally ran ifconfig to get my ubuntu machines private network IP address. I then verified that ssh was running, I even ssh'd into my school network and then into the ubuntu machine itself. No problems yet. On my windows 8 machine I ran ipconfig to get my private network IPv4 address. I then pinged my ubunty machines IP and 100% of packets were received. I figured, "OK we are ready to use PuTTy to connect to my Ubuntu Machine". Keep in mind this was my first time using PuTTy. I tried entering the IP of my ubuntu machine in the PuTTy Config GUI but I got a connection timeout. At this moment I don't really know what's going on, SSH is running on port 22 of my Ubuntu machine and I can ping the machine why is it not connecting? (I tried [username]@ip too). So I went on my Ubuntu machine and ran nmap -sP 192.168.0.1/24 and found that my windows machines IP did not show up, the host is down. I'm at a lost in something I am not very familiar with. Would anyone be able to help me or direct me to some resources that would trouble shoot my problem? • Apache Consuming Resources

  Our web server suddenly has been giving us load issues. After I restart Apache the load stays low for a few hours up to a day or so then its back up to around 3.0 until I restart Apache again. Any suggestions on tracking down what is causing this? Thanks! • Getting WIF to work with OpenSSO as STS

  Hi gang, Using OpenSSO as an identity provider, what should I do (i.e. with FedUtil.exe) to configure my .NET relying party so that it will do the STS dance? I've gotten OpenSSO's WS-Trust client samples running, so I think OSSO's in a good state and ready for the next step. I'm at the FedUtil.exe's "Use an existing STS" wall. Where do I get the STS WS-Federation metadata document for OpenSSO? I've tried: the.osso.server:port/opensso/sts the.osso.server:port/opensso/sts?wsdl the.osso.server:port/opensso/sts/mex the.osso.server:port/opensso/sts/mex?wsdl the.osso.server:port/opensso/sts/soap11 the.osso.server:port/opensso/sts/soap11?wsdl with no luck. • Advice? SSO in N-tiered SOA with mixture of REST and SOAP services

  Hi gang, We are moving to SSO in our N-tiered SOA applications. If all the services were SOAP, I'd be ok with just the WS-Security, WS-Trust, WS-Federation set of protocols. My problem is that many of the services are RESTful (ironic) and those protocols do not address REST services. What is your advice for SSO protecting the REST services in an N-tiered SOA architecture with the following requirements: ideally claims-based identity information available to the REST services original user (eg. bootstrap) information must flow through the tiers so that each service can "ActAs" or "OnBehalfOf" the user support sequences like: WebApp -- REST Svc -- SOAP Svc WebApp -- REST Svc1 -- REST Svc2 WebApp -- SOAP Svc -- REST Svc WebApp -- SOAP Svc1 -- SOAP Svc2 support SSO (and SSOff) service/web app platforms: ASP.Net and WCF Java end-user client platforms: .Net (WSE 3.0 and WCF) flash 10 java javascript and AJAX Normally I'm good at climbing / bashing my way through walls, but this one's knocked me flat. • What's the Best Practice for Firing Manual OnClick Events?

  Hey guys, I've got an XNA project that will be drawing several objects on the screen. I would like the user to be able to interact with those items. So I'm trying to build a method that checks to see which object the mouse is over, out of those which is the top most, and then fire an OnClick event for that object. Checking for the things above is not the problem, but where to actually put that logic is most of the issue. My initial feeling is that the checking should be handled by a master object - since it doesn't make sense for an object, who ideally knows only about itself, to determine information about the other objects. However, calling OnClick events remotely from the master object seems to be counter-intuitive as well. What's the best practice in this situation? Thanks, Tyler

• "Collection was modified..." Issue

  Hey guys, I've got a function that checks a list of objects to see if they've been clicked and fires the OnClick events accordingly. I believe the function is working correctly, however I'm having an issue: When I hook onto one of the OnClick events and remove and insert the element into a different position in the list (typical functionality for this program), I get the "Collection was modified..." error. I believe I understand what is going on: The function cycles through each object firing OnClick events where necessary An event is fired and the object changes places in the list per the hooked function An exception is thrown for modifying the collection while iterating through it My question is, how to do I allow the function to iterate through all the objects, fire the necessary events at the proper time and still give the user the option of manipulating the object's position in the list? • Which license should I use for my open source project

  Hey everybody - I have an open source project that I'm working on and I'm trying to figure out what liscense would be the best match. Essentially my project is a framework that developers will use to create projects of their own. The vision I had for the licensing of the project (in plain English): The user must not sell the source code or any derivatives. The user must not sell the framework or any derivatives. The user is allowed to sell a program which uses the framework. Basically, I just don't want anyone to abuse the open source aspect of the project, take what I've done and turn around and sell it. • Handle .NET exceptions within Classic ASP pages

  Hi All, I am making MSSQL stored procedure CLR calls from ASP pages. When an exception occurs, it is logged and then rethrown. In this scenario I need to be able to handle the exception (if possible) in the ASP page. Note that I cannot move away from classic ASP in this instance; I am stuck within a legacy system for this project. Please let me know if you know of a way to handle the exceptions in classic ASP. • Should I Prefer a Closed or Open List<> System?

  Hey guys, I've got a class in my project that stores a List< of elements. I'm trying to figure out whether I should allow the user to add to that List directly (e.g. Calling the native add/remove methods) or lock it down by declaring the List private and only allowing a handful of methods I choose to actually alter the List. It's a framework, so I'm trying to design it as robustly as possible, but I also want to keep it as simple and error-free as possible. What's the best practice in this situation? Thanks, Tyler

• Is syncing private keys a good idea?

  Ubuntu One's Security FAQ indicates that Canonical encrypts connections and restricts access to user data. This all well and fine, and I do trust SSL for online banking and other things more valuable than my private keys. That said, I am quite anxious about putting my ~/.ssh/id_dsa up in the cloud. Obviously, no system is totally secure. Could some knowledgeable party, then, pragmatically quantify the risks?

• How can I make a browser trust my SSL certificate when I request resources from an external server?

  I have installed an SSL certificate on one of my domains and it works perfectly, but on some pages I include a Google Font, which causes my certificate icon to change in: instead of: The reason, according to Google Chrome (translated with Google Translate): Your connection to xxxxxx is encrypted with 128-bit encryption. This page includes other resources which are not secure. These resources can be viewed by others while in transit and can be modified to fit. So how can I make the browser 'trust' my SSL certificate, even though I request an external resource from Google Fonts? • Ubuntu Server adding a new user

  Hi i am new to Ubuntu server and i have been trying to add a new user. I typed in adduser then username and also tried useradd then username but it does seem to add a user but when i login i only get a dollar sign instead of user@servername. I have tried adding rules to allow me into the sudo for that username but i just can't work out why i only get the dollar sign. • How can I schedule a nightly reboot?

  I'm having some periodic issues running a particular application, XBMC. If I use XBMC regularly I don't seem to have any issues but if I leave it unattended for more than about 12 hours I need to reboot to get it working again. I know a scheduled reboot is NOT the answer but until I can figure out the problem I need to schedule a reboot each morning so my wife can use it if I'm away and it doesn't get thrown out the window :) Any takers?

  Having difficulty re-installing Firefox, after an installation to resolve places.sqlite issues. It appears that I'm trapped in circular dependency hell. Need to resolve firefox dependency hell to attempt to resolve Tomcat6 project dependencies (don't ask), ASAP. Have been trying for hours. • Ubuntu 12.04.1 completely freezing very often [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: What should I do when Ubuntu freezes? I am running ubuntu 12.04.1 on an asus zenbook prime (UX31A), and I am having a problem where the entire OS freezes at random times. It doesn't seem to happen in response to any certain event, it will even sometimes happen while just moving the mouse, not even clicking on anything. The entire system will freeze, mouse and keyboard do not work, and any music/video will freeze and audio will loop. I can do nothing but hold the power button to reboot the computer. I've had this problem for a while, and just yesterday gotten around to backing up everything and doing a fresh install. Lo and behold, I get a freeze within 20 minutes of a fresh install. I've googled this a lot, and cannot find anything that resembles it exactly (some people have everything but mouse/keyboard freeze, some people only have the mouse/keyboard freeze).

• How can I resize a set of sprite images?

  Hey StackExchange GameDev community, I'm attempting to resize series of sprites upon instantiation of the class they're located in. I've attempted to use the following code to resize the images, however my attempts have been unsuccessful. I have been unable to write an implementation that is even compilable, so no error codes yet. wLeft.getScaledInstance(wLeft.getWidth()*2, wLeft.getHeight()*2, Image.SCALE_FAST); I've heard that Graphics2D is the best option. Any suggestions? I think I'm probably best off loading the images into a Java project, resizing the images then outputting them to a new directory so as not to have to resize each sprite upon class instantiation. What do you think? Photoshopping each individual sprite is out of the question, unless I used a macro. • How much should I charge an hour for freelance iOS development?

  I am a fairly competent developer who already holds a job developing iOS applications. This job is through the university which I attend. The producer of the apps that I develop is always trying to set me up with some freelance opportunities to get my work out there and to get me some more work/experience. What is a reasonable price to charge (either hourly or per app)? I'd be working by myself, on my own equipment, from start to finish in the design process. • Can Ubuntu create a semi-transparent subtitle player for accessibility?

  I've asked this in Reddit.com/r/Ubuntu in here. I've tried to get the Subtitle Player linked here to work and it have failed on Wine. So I'm curious if Ubuntu community would be willing to try and build a simple transparent subtitle player for better accessibility on Flash Player, Netflix, or even in movie theaters? Currently, I'm watching movies/videos with an Android Tablet that runs on a blank black video for 3 hours with a subtitle overlay on it so I can enjoy movie and so forth, but it requires a bit of effort and it definitely isn't for everyone. (People will have to look at the subtitle playing tablet and the movie back and forth at 60 degrees angle, while a transparent subtitle player would reduce it to 5 degrees angle to watch the movie.) Please and thank you.
