  • Logitech webcam device only recognised by one software, without drivers

    A couple weeks ago I purchased a Logitech webcam at a garage sale; It did not come with any driver DVDs or anything like that. I plugged it in, turned on my computer, and continued work as usual. I did not at the time (and still have not) gotten any drivers for the device. Recently, though, I started up an audio software named as Cubase, only to find that it was picking up audio reads off of... something. I checked my sound card, and everything else plugged into my computer, but couldn't find where in the world this audio was being picked up from. There were no microphones listed in the device managers, and no "unknown devices" or whatever. Everything seemed as it always was. Running out of ideas, i blew an air-horn directly into the general area of the webcam, located directly in front of me. Sure enough, the audio peaked, indicating that the microphone was definitely in the webcam and that Cubase was somehow picking up this audio, even without drivers. The software lists the device as a "Universal USB Microphone". Adobe Audition, Soundbooth, and other audio applications cannot find the device either. Why is it that this one software (Cubase) can use this device without a driver, while every other piece of software on the computer can't? Not even the operating system can recognize it.     I recently created a virtual windows xp with Virtual Box OSE. The sound and video seem to be working just fine. However, it does not recognize the webcam which I use to video chat with yahoo messenger. I use Windows to have video chats with my daughters who live in another country. Since I did not want to go back to windows, I decided to try installing windows in a virtual machine. But when I tried using it yesterday, everything worked perfectly except for the webcam. I was not able to make the webcam work. I tried to download the drivers for it, but since my laptop is HP Pavilion g4-1287la, Core i3, none of the drivers I tried worked. I got the same error every time I tried to install them, something like: This driver cannot be installed in this machine

    Hello, I am using JMF to operate my web cam.My usb webcam works perfectly with JMF, I used it in JMStudio however,when I make this call from my java code deviceListVector = CaptureDeviceManager.getDeviceList( null ); my USB "webcam" is detected however when i am trying to detect webcam on my laptop it is not detecting any device.     I have a brand new clean machine with Windows 7 Professional 64bit and I've installed the patch that adds Windows Virtual PC (Windows6.1-KB958559-x64). I then go to Windows Virtual PC, create a new Virtual Machine. As soon as go to settings and try to map the VM DVD drive to the host's DVD drive I get "File may be in use by another process or you may not have sufficient access privilege". I am an administrator in that box... What am I missing?

    I'm trying to make 2 virtual machines communicate in Virtual Box, but whitout any success. Here are the step I have done: I setted both VMs in Internal networking mode (using VBoxManage modifyvm "VM name" --nic<x> intnet) I setted the DHCP server that is built into VirtualBox to manage IP addresses :VBoxManage dhcpserver add --netname intnet --ip 10.13.13.100 --netmask 255.255.255.0 --lowerip 10.13.13.101 --upperip 10.13.13.254 --enable But then both of the VM have the same IP Adresse (10.13.13.101) and even if set the IP manually, the Virtual Machines are not pinging each other.

    I am not sure but I can't seem to turn on my webcam to record videos which I would broad cast somewhere later on. I have a HP G62 Laptop, and the cam turns on when I use programs like Skype and other Video Calling clients, other wise I can't turn it own, as I don't seem to know how. Laptop: HP G62 Notebook PC, AMD Atholon II P230 Dual-Core, Windows 7: Home Premium Can some one tell me how do I turn on my webcam and record videos? Or is there some sort of a software? I tend to read stuff I wrote in Word, so if there is a program I need it to be in the tray dock and not to bug me, while I am moving between different documents/web pages.

  • Win XP Virtual Machine APP that won't START as a terminal services client

    I have a Win XP Virtual Machine APP that won't START as a terminal services client..... but if i disable terminal services inside the virtual machine, start the app then start terminal services... the APP runs fine (so long as terminal services are disabled when it starts.....!) My question is... is it possible to script things somehow so as to allow this app to be accessed directly from win 7 (with out having to manually run XP virtual machine)... I.E as I can not run it this way as it won't START with terminal services running.... I.e is it somehow possible to script things so the APP starts and terminal services is delayed then kicks in after a time delay.... (I know this may not be possible but I'm getting sick of all the mucking around...)

  • virtual install from ISO not getting virtual kernel

    I have a KVM host (12.04.5) that I have been installing guests on in variety of ways. I just noticed recently one of my guests was running a generic kernel when I'm fairly certain I specified minimum virtual machine during install from a 12.04.2 server iso. From what I understand it should be running a stripped down kernel "optimized" for VMs. I set up another server to test, this time using a 14.04.1, and sure enough I ended up with uname -r returning 3.13.0-32-generic. It seems that if I use an .iso to install, I end up with generic regardless. However building with the vmbuilder ... --flavour virtual --suite precise ... (I don't have trusty available yet) script gives me an ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS system running kernel 3.2.0-67-virtual. The server FAQ mentions I should be getting the virtual kernel. What are practical advantages of using linux-image-virtual kernel? gives me the impression that it doesn't really matter functionally (in my case I only have a couple VMs running). I first thought was maybe I was somehow not applying the correct options because the installer F4 menu doesn't really give great feedback if the mode has been selected or not. Looking in the log /var/log/installers/syslog I see Command line: file=/cdrom/preceed/ubuntu-server-minimalvm.seed ... I know that I can install the virtual kernel package down the road, but why am I not, or should I be getting the virtual flavor of kernel from an ISO install when doing an minimum VM install?

I'm considering installing Linux and running the virtual machine from the Linux, but I'm not sure whether I can expect any performance gains? It's a 2.4ghz core 2 duo machine with 4gb ram and 5400 rpm hdd. Can somebody please recommend very cut down version of linux that can run VMWare player and isn't resource hungry? Thank you

  • Convert partition to Virtual Disk image

    I have a 250 GB HD with a XP partition. I partitioned the XP Box to 112 GB, since the max Virtual PC can load is 127 GB. I have a new motherboard and can't load into the partition, so I am using Windows 7. I have tried using WinImage to create the image but it creates an image of the whole disc (250 GB) and will not load on Virtual PC cause of the size limit. What would be best to convert to VHD correctly?

  • Ubuntu 12.04, web cam light flashing

    Have been running Ubuntu on my Compaq C757 reliably since 9.10. Currently running a fresh install of 12.04 LTS. Somewhere during my regular updates, my webcam started flashing its power light. Light flashes from logon screen all throughout my session. I am not running Google Chrome but chromium and firefox. Webcam works normally whenever I run Cheese webcam booth, light comes on solid and webcam works normally. I close out of Cheese, webcam shuts off, and then the light starts blinking again. My system is dual boot, when I boot into Windows 7, webcam does not exhibit this problem. I suspect issue may be related to new laptop power management settings in kernel based on research on the web of similar problems, but I do not know how to instruct it to treat webcam differently.

    hey guys im stuck on a project i have i need to find a way to stream my home webcam onto my mobile phone, in this case on a blackberry bold 9700, also i have an i pod touch 2.0. the problem i keep coming across is that every program i find askes for money, i am looking for a way to do this for free, ive been trying using vlc but have so far been unable to get the stream to work, any help would be great thanks a lot adam

    hey guys i have a porject where i have to be able to view my webcam on my mobile phone, which happens to be a blackberry bold 9700 but can also get a hold of an i pod touch so either phone is ok to use. the problem that i have is that everytime i do a search for help on this i end up with a program which enevitably asks for money and this is not allowd in the project, ive been trying to stream using vlc player and viewing it on the opera mini for blackberry but no such luck so far, any help would be great thanks a lot

  • Webcam error (libv4lconvert) while capturing VIDEO

    I get the following when I capture images using my web-cam.. libv4lconvert: Error decompressing JPEG: unknown huffman code: 0000ffff libv4lconvert: Error decompressing JPEG: unknown huffman code: 0000ffff libv4lconvert: Error decompressing JPEG: unknown huffman code: 0000ffff ...(same error repeating) ... I also had issue that my camera was not getting detected in ubuntu. So, in order to run an application that uses the webcam, I have to run a command like LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so ./6dofhand Whats causing these errors?

I specifically want to be able to use the microphone in the camera when i'm taking calls which aren't video calls on skype. Are they any that do this? Does the microsoft H5D Life Camera do this?
