  • Stack recommendations for small/medium-sized web application in Python

    I'm looking for some recommendations for a python web application. We have some memory restrictions and we try to keep it small and lean. We thought about using WSGI (and a python webserver) and build the rest ourself. We already have a template engine we'd like to use, but we are open for some suggestions regarding the whole request handling (the controller). The application has to run in a single process and the requests have to be processed with multiple threads. We've looked at django, but we are a not sure if it fits into our memory budget.   • Background Activity for Map in Android started again if phone orientation is changed

    Hi, i've developed an android app that's fetches an xml file and displays this data via several markers on the map. This works fine so far. The problem right now is that when i switch the orientation of the phone (portrait-landscape or vice versa) the markers disappear for a small moment, the xml processing is started again and then they reappear. Is there a way to prevent this re-loading of the file? It only takes about 2-3 seconds..so no big deal, but still disturbing

  • CSS Experts required - problems with Z-Index stack in my page design

    Howdy y'all! Basically I'm having some problems with Z-Index. Although I'm not amazing at CSS I would reckon I was reasonably good, but really can't work this out. You'll see at the URL... http://howcode.com/code/ ... that my problem is that links in the returned 'Popular' results aren't clickable or anything. I've concluded this is due to their Z-Index being messed up. I had to fiddle and tweak with Z-Index to get the tabs - Popular, Top Rated, Featured etc. - to show above the codebg div. When I adjusted the Z-Index so that the results were definitely on top, they acted as normal - text could be selected, the ratings images hovered, etc. etc. However the downside to this was that my Popular, Top Rated, Featured tabs were all placed BENEATH the background image for the returned results. If anyone can post a workaround or alteration to my CSS that would be much appreciated. Please don't forget this is a test site and design and any other URLs are likely not to work, I haven't uploaded any database configs yet or whatever!   • How to hide the title bar for an Activity in XML

    I want to hide the title bar for some of my activities. The problem is that I applied a style to all my activities, therefore I can't simply set the theme to @android:style/Theme.NoTitleBar. Using the NoTitleBar theme as a parent for my style would remove the title bar for to much activities. Can I set a no title style item somewhere?

    Can I kindly ask that we're allowed to login without the OpenID nonsense? This system is so popular that stack-overflow is the only place that I use it. If it is the policy of stack-overflow to prevent people to login, they've succeeded. I am a passive reader. For some reasons, I really don't like the idea of having one Id for all sites. To me, this system is dead in the water. Unless used within organizations I will never use it. Of course, until the government decides to reign us all in. Will you give them a hand? Until then, can we simply have a login form as in 1995? Thank you for your consideration.

  • ClassNotFoundException when transfer data between service and activity

    Hello again, I am writing an application which is composed of an underlying service and a GUI controller. The service collects data and sends to the controller, I used Messenger and put an array of parcelable objects into the bundle of the message. But when it is received at the controller side, error occurs: android.os.BadParcelableException: ClassNotFoundException in unmarshalling MyData ... I am sure that MyData implements correctly Parcelable interface. It seems I have to do something with ClassLoader? or what else? Please help me. Thank you very much!

  • UIViewController is popped from view stack and NSURLConnection crashes the application

    I am pushing a UIViewController onto a UINavigationController. This view controller immediately starts a download of an xml feed and then parses it. However, if you hit the back button before it is done downloading, and crashes with EXC_BAD_ACCESS. The line that is crashing it is in parserDidEndDocument and is this line: if (self.delegate && [self.delegate conformsToProtocol:@protocol(ModelDelegate)]) [self.delegate modelDidFinishParsing:self]; I assume it is crashing because it is trying to access self.delegate which is not assigned anymore. How do I get around this? Also, I would release the model object in the modelDidFinishParsing method. How would I release this model if it never reaches this method.

    I have associated my app with txt file. So user can select a file in File explorer app and select my app to open it. In OnCreate: Intent intent = getIntent(); String action = intent.getAction(); if (action != null && action.equals(Intent.ACTION_VIEW)) { txtFilePath = intent.getData().getPath(); } However, when user did not close my app, and he goes back to file explorer and open another file, OnCreate is not called. OnResusme is called instead. I put below code in OnResume: Intent intent = getIntent(); String action = intent.getAction(); if (action != null && action.equals(Intent.MAIN)) { txtFilePath = intent.getData().getPath(); } However, txtFilePath is null. Why? Thank a lot for help.

  • Why should pop() take an argument?

    Quick background I'm a Java developer who's been playing around with C++ in my free/bored time. Preface In C++, you often see pop taking an argument by reference: void pop(Item& removed); I understand that it is nice to "fill in" the parameter with what you removed. That totally makes sense to me. This way, the person who asked to remove the top item can have a look at what was removed. However, if I were to do this in Java, I'd do something like this: Item pop() throws StackException; This way, after the pop we return either: NULL as a result, an Item, or an exception would be thrown. My C++ text book shows me the example above, but I see plenty of stack implimentations taking no arguments (stl stack for example). The Qustion How should one implement the pop function in C++? The Bonus Why?

  • How could I make the SurfaceView and Button have a different orientation in a Activity

    I hava a simple program about video recording . I use the surfaceView to show the preview screen. and I also want to put some buttons on the screen. I put all the component mentioned above into a XML file which is "ipcam.xml" I use MediaRecorder , SurfaceView , SurfaceHolder to complete this program because the preview screen does not orientate correctly when I rotate my phone. so I use "setRequestedOrientation(ActivityInfo.SCREEN_ORIENTATION_LANDSCAPE);" but , the button in the program is always in LANDSCAPE direction . it will not auto change direction when I rotate my phone , but the preview is ok!! so is there anyway to solve this problem.   • even small file upload stops activity on apache/rails

    on my rails(2.3.5) app(currently 50-70rpm, maximum response time around 0.7s), uploading even 700k file(using paperclip plugin) locks up the server for web requests for everyone for 2 minutes! (other apps on same server work normally) does anyone have a clue why that might be happening? i am using some mysql transactions which lock the database also if that might be an issue i read http://www.therailsway.com/2009/4/23/uploading-files but it couldn't be locking server for 2 minutes for a small file, could it?!

I was thinking of implementing an AlertDialog but as I need more than 3 options it is not possible... I also thought of putting my ListView in a FrameLayout and have an view with a gone visibility that I would turn visible at the click and update the content but I don't know If it's a good idea.     For example, In an ActivityA there's a button to create an Intent that will start ActivityB in a new task, like this: Intent i = new Intent(this, ActivityB.class); i.setData(Uri.parse("http://www.google.com")); long timestamp = System.currentTimeMillis(); i.putExtra("ts", timestamp); i.addFlag(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK); Log.d(TAG, "Sending: " + timestamp); startActivity(i); Then in ActivityB's onResume() method, there's this code to check the timestamp: long timestamp = getIntent().getExtras().getLong("ts"); Log.d(TAG, "Receiving: " + timestamp); Now the first time I invoke ActivityB from ActivityA I get the following logs: Sending: 120006000 Receiving: 120006000 Then if I left ActivityB running in the background (by pressing Home button), and start ActivityA then invoke ActivityB again, the following is printed: Sending: 120013000 Receiving: 120006000 It seems although ActivityB is brought to front by the new Intent. The extra field in the intent is being left behind. Is this a bug or an intended behavior?

  • How do I stack Plack authentication handlers?

    I would like to have my Plack app try several different means of authorizing the user. Specifically, check if the user is already authorized via a session cookie, then check for Digest authentication and then fall back to Basic. I figured I could just enable a bunch of Auth handlers in the order I wanted them to be checked (Session, Digest, Basic). Unfortunately, the way that Plack::Middleware::Auth::Digest and Plack::Middleware::Auth::Basic are written they both return 401 if digest or basic auth doesn't exist, respectively. How is this normally dealt with in Plack?
