  • Is there a work around for invalid octal digit in an array?

    - by sircrisp
    I'm trying to create an array which will hold the hours in a day so I can loop through it for a clock. I have: int hourArray[24] = {12, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, 11, 12, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, 11}; I am getting the error on the following numbers in order 08, 09, 08, 09. It tells me: Error: invalid octal digit I've never run into this before and I'm wondering if there is any way around it?

  • java.lang.ClassNotFoundException in Netbeans. 5 hours to fix

    - by user1304281
    Hi I've got to submit an interpreter assignment tonight and all of a sudden it stopped working! It was working yesterday but now when I try to create a class instance at runtime I get classnotfoundexception. My project has no libraries or dependencies, I've written everything myself. I've googled around and it seems to be an issue with classpath but I've had no luck fooling with the project properties on netbeans. Here's some code: package interpreter; import interpreter.bytecode.ByteCode; import java.io.*; import java.lang.reflect.*; class ByteCodeLoader { //.... String codeClass = CodeTable.CodeTable.get(args[0]); ByteCode bytecode = (ByteCode)(Class.forName("interpreter.bytecode."+codeClass).newInstance()); //this throws exception } all of my ByteCodes are contained within a subpackage of interpreter called interpreter.bytecode. I'll be watching this thread so I can answer/clarify any questions immediately. Thanks for your time!

  • Why does this code sample produce a memory leak?

    - by citronas
    In the university we were given the following code sample and we were being told, that there is a memory leak when running this code. The sample should demonstrate that this is a situation where the garbage collector can't work. As far as my object oriented programming goes, the only codeline able to create a memory leak would be items=Arrays.copyOf(items,2 * size+1); The documentation says, that the elements are copied. Does that mean the reference is copied (and therefore another entry on the heap is created) or the object itself is being copied? As far as I know, Object and therefore Object[] are implemented as a reference type. So assigning a new value to 'items' would allow the garbage collector to find that the old 'item' is no longer referenced and can therefore be collected. In my eyes, this the codesample does not produce a memory leak. Could somebody prove me wrong? =) import java.util.Arrays; public class Foo { private Object[] items; private int size=0; private static final int ISIZE=10; public Foo() { items= new Object[ISIZE]; } public void push(final Object o){ checkSize(); items[size++]=o; } public Object pop(){ if (size==0) throw new ///... return items[--size]; } private void checkSize(){ if (items.length==size){ items=Arrays.copyOf(items,2 * size+1); } } }

  • SQL HAVING COUNT and JOIN

    - by user1833274
    I have tried to this query: What are the doctors that work on less than 2 Hospitals. I have these tables: CREATE TABLE Hospital ( hid INT PRIMARY KEY, name VARCHAR(127) UNIQUE, country VARCHAR(127), area INT ); CREATE TABLE Doctor ( ic INT PRIMARY KEY, name VARCHAR(127), date_of_birth INT, ); CREATE TABLE Work ( hid INT, ic INT, since INT, FOREIGN KEY (hid) REFERENCES Hospital (hid), FOREIGN KEY (ic) REFERENCES Doctor (ic), PRIMARY KEY (hid,ic) ); I tried with this: SELECT DISTINCT D.ic FROM Doctor D, Work W JOIN Hospital H ON (H.hid = W.hid) WHERE D.bi = W.bi GROUP BY (D.ic) HAVING COUNT(H.hid) < 2 ;

  • How to store multiple variables from a File Input of unknown size in Java?

    - by AlphaOmegaStrife
    I'm a total beginner with my first programming assignment in Java. For our programming assignment, we will be given a .txt file of students like so: 3 345 Lisa Miller 890238 Y 2 <-(Number of classes) Mathematics MTH345 4 A Physics PHY357 3 B Bill Wilton 798324 N 2 English ENG378 3 B Philosophy PHL534 3 A Dandy Goat 746333 Y 1 History HIS101 3 A" The teacher will give us a .txt file on the day of turning it in with a list of unknown students. My problem is: I have a specific class for turning the data from the file into variables to be used for a different class in printing it to the screen. However, I do not know of a good way to get the variables from the input file for the course numbers, since that number is not predetermined. The only way I can think of to iterate over that unknown amount is using a loop, but that would just overwrite my variables every time. Also, the teacher has requested that we not use any JCL classes (I don't really know what this means.) Sorry if I have done a poor job of explaining this, but I can't think of a better way to conceptualize it. Let me know if I can clarify. Edit: public static void analyzeData() { Scanner inputStream = null; try { inputStream = new Scanner(new FileInputStream("Programming Assignment 1 Data.txt")); } catch (FileNotFoundException e) { System.out.println("File Programming Assignment 1 Data.txt could not be found or opened."); System.exit(0); } int numberOfStudents = inputStream.nextInt(); int tuitionPerHour = inputStream.nextInt(); String firstName = inputStream.next(); String lastname = inputStream.next(); String isTuitionPaid = inputStream.next(); int numberOfCourses = inputStream.nextInt(); String courseName = inputStream.next(); String courseNumber = inputStream.next(); int creditHours = inputStream.nextInt(); String grade = inputStream.next(); To show the methods I am using now, I am just using a Scanner to read from the file and for Scanner inputStream, I am using nextInt() or next() to get variables from the file. Obviously this will not work when I do not know exactly how many classes each student will have.

  • My PHP script for sending emails wont send

    - by James
    Well I'm working on a school project, and I uploaded my script to send emails. I'm pretty much using whats defined here: http://www.webcheatsheet.com/PHP/send_email_text_html_attachment.php . Now, all I really changed(other than the contents), is the receiver, to my email address. However, I'm not getting it in my inbox. Is there something else I need? Do I need to do something with the settings on the server(or have my school enable something)?

  • C++ class with char pointers returning garbage

    - by JMP
    I created a class "Entry" to handle Dictionary entries, but in my main(), I create the Entry() and try to cout the char typed public members, but I get garbage. When I look at the Watch list in debugger, I see the values being set, but as soon as I access the values, there is garbage. Can anyone elaborate on what I might be missing? #include <iostream> using namespace std; class Entry { public: Entry(const char *line); char *Word; char *Definition; }; Entry::Entry(const char *line) { char tmp[100]; strcpy(tmp, line); Word = strtok(tmp, ",") + '\0'; Definition = strtok(0,",") + '\0'; } int main() { Entry *e = new Entry("drink,What you need after a long day's work"); cout << "Word: " << e->Word << endl; cout << "Def: " << e->Definition << endl; cout << endl; delete e; e = 0; return 0; }

  • Help in C with integers

    - by inferno2991
    You need to use division and remainder by 10. Consider this example: 163 divided by 10 is 16 remainder 3 16 divided by 10 is 1 remainder 6 1 divided by 10 is 0 remainder 1 You'll notice the remainder is always the last digit of the number that's being divided. Now figure out a way to do this in C... How do i do it in c Help :(

  • Calling arrays from other methods in a different class

    - by Jake H
    Hello, I need help dealing with an array in my java program. in my first class, "test", I set 4 variables and then send them to my other class (test2). arr[i] = new test2(id, fname, lname, case); at that point, variables are set and then I want to return those variables. So in the test2 class, I have a method that strictly returns one of those variables public int getId(){ return id; } I understand this is a little stupid, but professor gets what professor wants I guess. What I want to do now is in my main method in "test" I want to retrieve that variable and sort the array based on that int. Unfortunately, I have to create my own sort function, but I think this would work for what I want to do. for(j = 0; j < arr.length; j++){ int indexMin =j; for(i = j; i < arr.length;i++){ if(arr[i] < arr[indexMin]){ indexMin = i; } } int tmp = arr[j]; arr[j] = arr[indexMin]; arr[indexMin] = tmp; } I appreciate any help anyone could provide. Thank you

  • Writing an Eval Procedure in Scheme?

    - by Planeman
    My problem isn't with the built-in eval procedure but how to create a simplistic version of it. Just for starters I would like to be able to take this in '(+ 1 2) and have it evaluate the expression + where the quote usually takes off the evaluation. I have been thinking about this and found a couple things that might be useful: Unquote: , (quasiquote) (apply) My main problem is regaining the value of + as a procedure and not a symbol. Once I get that I think I should just be able to use it with the other contents of the list. Any tips or guidance would be much appreciated.

  • Getter/Setter from separate class file in Java

    - by Crystal
    I'm new to Java and for a HW assignment, we had to create a Person class that has a constructor, getter/setter for the attributes of firstName, lastName, phone. That is in a separate file from an old HW assignment (Person.java). Now we have to use that Person class in our new HW assignment (LoanApplication.java). So if one of the attributes is private Person client do I need to create getter/setters or a constructor again? Otherwise, how does each LoanApplicaiton instance know which Person attribute it is to go with? How does the JVM know that it can use the Person.class even though my LoanApplicaiton.class does not extend Person.class? Thanks.

What I have is Javascript file but I have also included the images source and the addtocart button as well, but What I am trying to do now is make 2 files one a .HTML file and another .JS file, but I can't get it to because when I make a button in the HTML file to call the function from the .JS file it won't work at all. <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"> <HTML> <HEAD><TITLE>shopping</TITLE> <META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"> <STYLE type=text/CSS> fieldset{width:300px} legend{font-size:24px;font-family:comic sans ms;color:#004455} </STYLE> <META content="MSHTML 6.00.2900.2963" name=GENERATOR></HEAD> <BODY scroll="auto"> <div id="products"></div><hr> <div id="inCart"></div> <SCRIPT type="text/javascript"> var items=['Xbox~149.99','StuffedGizmo~19.98','GadgetyGoop~9.97']; var M='?'; var product=[]; var price=[]; var stuff=''; function wpf(product,price){var pf='<form><FIELDSET><LEGEND>'+product+'</LEGEND>'; pf+='<img src="../images/'+product+'.jpg" alt="'+product+'" ><p>price '+M+''+price+'</p> <b>Qty</b><SELECT>'; for(i=0;i<6;i++){pf+='<option value="'+i+'">'+i+'</option>'} pf+='</SELECT>'; pf+='<input type="button" value="Add to cart" onclick="cart()" /></FIELDSET></form>'; return pf } for(j=0;j<items.length;j++){ product[j]=items[j].substring(0,items[j].indexOf('~')); price[j]=items[j].substring(items[j].indexOf('~')+1,items[j].length); stuff+=''+wpf(product[j],price[j])+''; } document.getElementById('products').innerHTML=stuff; function cart(){ var order=[]; var tot=0 for(o=0,k=0;o<document.forms.length;o++){ if(document.forms[o].elements[1].value!=0){ qnty=document.forms[o].elements[1].value; order[k]=''+product[o]+'_'+qnty+'*'+price[o]+''; tot+=qnty*price[o];k++ } } document.getElementById('inCart').innerHTML=order.join('<br>')+'<h3>Total '+tot+'</h3>'; } </SCRIPT> <input type="button" value="Add to cart" onclick="cart()" /></FIELDSET></form> </BODY></HTML>

  • Convert integer to equivalent number of blank spaces.

    - by mike
    I was wondering what the easiest way is to convert an integer to the equivalent number of blank spaces. I need it for the spaces between nodes when printing a binary search tree. I tried this `int position = printNode.getPosition(); String formatter = "%1"+position+"s%2$s\n"; System.out.format(formatter, "", node.element);` But I am getting almost 3 times as many spaces compared to the int value of position. I'm not really sure if I am formatting the string right either. Any suggestions would be great! If it makes it clearer, say position = 6; I want 6 blank spaces printed before my node element.
