  • Globals across modules

    - by Coder1
Wow, this seems so basic, but I can't get it to work. All I need to do is store a global dict which can be accessed and modified from other modules & threads. What's the "best practices" way of achieving this? test.py import testmodule class MyClassA(): def __init__(self, id): self.id = id if __name__ == '__main__': global classa_dict classa_dict = {} classa_dict[1] = MyClassA(1) classa_dict[2] = MyClassA(2) testing = testmodule.TestModule() testmodule.py class TestModule(): def __init__(self): global classa_dict print classa_dict[2] output $ python test.py Traceback (most recent call last): File "test.py", line 13, in <module> testing = testmodule.TestModule() File "/path/to/project/testmodule.py", line 4, in __init__ print classa_dict[2] NameError: global name 'classa_dict' is not defined

  • file_get_contents returns 403 forbidden

    - by absk
I am trying to make a sitescraper. I made it on my local machine and it works very fine there. When I execute the same on my server, it shows a 403 forbidden error. I am using the PHP Simple HTML DOM Parser. The error I get on the server is this: Warning: file_get_contents(http://example.com/viewProperty.html?id=7715888) [function.file-get-contents]: failed to open stream: HTTP request failed! HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden in /home/scraping/simple_html_dom.php on line 40 The line of code triggering it is: $url="http://www.example.com/viewProperty.html?id=".$id; $html=file_get_html($url); I have checked the php.ini on the server and allow_url_fopen is On. Possible solution can be using curl, but I need to know where I am going wrong.

  • Pass codeigniter translation array to jQuery Function

    - by grolle
    Hi, I’ve a problem by passing an array to a jQuery function. Some code: // in the language file $lang['daynames'] = array('So','Mo','Di','Mi','Do','Fr','Sa'); //In the view var config = { basePath : '' }; // THIS WORKS GREAT!!! var days = new array('lang-line('daynames')); ?'); //in the js-File $(function() { $("#datepicker").datepicker({ dateFormat : 'dd.mm.yy', showWeek : true, firstDay : 1, weekHeader : 'KW', dayNamesMin : days, monthNames : ['Januar','Februar','März','April', 'Mai','Juni','Juli','August','September', 'Oktober','November','Dezember'], onSelect : function(dateText,inst){ } }); }); If I do lang-line(‘daynames’)); ? in the view everything looks fine, so what is wrong here? Thanks and best regards ...

  • How do I use grep to extract a specific field value from lines

    - by Stormshadow
I have lines in a file which look like the following ....... DisplayName="john" .......... where .... represents variable number of other fields. Using the following grep command, I am able to extract all the lines which have a valid 'DisplayName' field grep DisplayName="[0-9A-Za-z[:space:]]*" e:\test However, I wish to extract just the name (ie "john") from each line instead of the whole line which is returned by grep. I tried pipelining the output to the cut command but it does not accept string delimiters.

  • Hot to log in to a website using installed twill?

    - by brilliant
Hello, everybody!!!! I have just successfully installed TWILL on my computer with the help of one very supportive member of "StackOverflow" (you can check it out HERE) and have tried to run one of the simple examples on the twill documentation page (you can see that page HERE). Here is that example: Let's say my username on www.slash.org is lynxye and my password is mammal. When I try to enter that exanple code into my Python prompt, I can only enter the first line of the code bexcause when I click on "Enter" to start a new line, I get some error messages right away: The same happens when I try to enter this code into my terminal: I think I miss out on some basics here. Perhaps, I need to create a file that would contain that code and then run that file somehow, but I really don't know where I need to create that file and with what extensdion. Can anyone, please, help me with this?

  • How should I think about perspectives and rotation in OpenGL ES?

    - by Omega
As I start to write rendering code, how do I want to consider my drawing operations? Will they always be relative to a fixed coordinate system on the screen, or does this change based on the camera perspective? The best example I can try to come up with is say I'm at (0,0,0) and I draw a line to (3,3,3). If I change the perspective +1 on the X axis and conduct the same operation, does it happen at (4,3,3), or am I just getting a new view of the line still being made at (3,3,3)? When doing rotation, am I moving the point from which a frustum emanates, or am I moving the rendering underneath?

  • Are there any modern GUI toolkits which implement a heirarchical menu buffer zone?

    - by scomar
In Bruce Tognazzini's quiz on Fitt's Law, the question discussing the bottleneck in the hierarchical menu (as used in almost every modern desktop UI), talks about his design for the original Mac: The bottleneck is the passage between the first-level menu and the second-level menu. Users first slide the mouse pointer down to the category menu item. Then, they must carefully slide the mouse directly across (horizontally) in order to move the pointer into the secondary menu. The engineer who originally designed hierarchicals apparently had his forearm mounted on a track so that he could move it perfectly in a horizontal direction without any vertical component. Most of us, however, have our forarms mounted on a pivot we like to call our elbow. That means that moving our hand describes an arc, rather than a straight line. Demanding that pivoted people move a mouse pointer along in a straight line horizontally is just wrong. We are naturally going to slip downward even as we try to slide sideways. When we are not allowed to slip downward, the menu we're after is going to slam shut just before we get there. The Windows folks tried to overcome the pivot problem with a hack: If they see the user move down into range of the next item on the primary menu, they don't instantly close the second-level menu. Instead, they leave it open for around a half second, so, if users are really quick, they can be inaccurate but still get into the second-level menu before it slams shut. Unfortunately, people's reactions to heightened chance of error is to slow down, rather than speed up, a well-established phenomenon. Therefore, few users will ever figure out that moving faster could solve their problem. Microsoft's solution is exactly wrong. When I specified the Mac hierarchical menu algorthm in the mid-'80s, I called for a buffer zone shaped like a <, so that users could make an increasingly-greater error as they neared the hierarchical without fear of jumping to an unwanted menu. As long as the user's pointer was moving a few pixels over for every one down, on average, the menu stayed open, no matter how slow they moved. (Cancelling was still really easy; just deliberately move up or down.) This just blew me away! Such a simple idea which would result in a huge improvement in usability. I'm sure I'm not the only one who regularly has the next level of a menu slam shut because I don't move the mouse pointer in a perfectly horizontal line. So my question is: Are there any modern UI toolkits which implement this brilliant idea of a < shaped buffer zone in hierarchical menus? And if not, why not?!

  • Region or ItemsSource for large data set in ListBox

    - by Ryan
I'm having trouble figuring out what the best solution is given the following situation. I'm using Prism 4.1, MEF, and .Net 4.0. I have an object Project that could have a large number (~1000) of Line objects. I'm deciding whether it is better to expose an ObservableCollection<LineViewModel> from my ProjectViewModel and manually create the Line viewmodels there OR set the ListBox as it's own region and activate views that way. I'd still want my LineViewModel to have Prism's shared services (IEventAggregator, etc.) injected, but I don't know how to do that when I manually create the LineViewModel. Any suggestions or thoughts?

  • Display radio buttons in prolog xpce

    - by Ben03
    I created a menu with Radio Buttons in XPCE prolog, but my radio buttons are showing on the same line, and I want to have each one on a separate line. My code is the following: new(D, dialog('title')), send(D, size, size(500,500)), send(D, append, new(Op, menu(options, marked))), send(Op, append, option1), send(Op, append, option2), send(Op, append, option3), send(Op, size, size(300,300)), send(D, display, Op, point(100, 40)), send(D, append(new(B1,button(ok, message(D, return, Op?selection))))), send(D, display, B1, point(100, 100)), send(D, append(button(cancel, message(D, return, @nil)))), send(D, default_button(ok)), get(D, confirm, Rval), free(D). Thanks in advance

  • What is the explanation of this results in Java ?

    - by M.H
I have the following code : public class Main { private int i = j; //1 private int j = 10; public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println((new Main()).i); } } and there is a compiler error in line 1 because an illegal forward reference. But when I am trying the following code : public class Main { int i = getJ(); //1 int getJ(){ return j; } int j=10; public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println(new Main().i); } } it works fine and the result is 0.Why there is no illegal forward reference in line 1 here?.The two codes look similar to me.

  • Is there a semantic difference <span>'s and <div>'s?

    - by DavidR
I know when coding HTML, I'm supposed to keep semantics in mind, e.g., h1 needs to be a main header, h2 needs to be a subheader, tables need to be tables, use <em> for emphasis instead of <i>, etc. Is there a proper difference between divs and spans except one is a block and the other is in-line? When I was learning I was told that <span>'s were for styling text mid-line. If I had a small blurb of text that I needed positioned at a certain point in my webpage, one that doesn't warrent a <p> tag, would I use a span should I stick with div's? What if that text needs to cover two lines (i.e., it needs a width) if it contains nothing but text, what should I use?

  • Shell script exiting the loop after calling another script

    - by Johnyy
Hi Guys, I have a shell script s1 calling another script s2 in a loop. However s1 can not seem to continue the loop after s2 returns. Commenting out the line that calls s2 will enable the loop to continue. s2 does copy of one file, s1 checks conditions and copy several files using s2. Can anyone give a pointer what is going on here? ... while read line s2 param1 param2 param3 echo "copy done" done < $tempfile echo "out of loop" ... "copy done" is printed, so is "out of loop"

  • Compiling C Source with Makefile in Windows

    - by humoeba
I'm trying to compile a downloaded program in Windows. The program is usually run in Linux, but is programmed to also run in Windows (the code has #if defined(_WIN32)'s in it, and claims to work with borland free tools). When I try to use make from the command line, it tells me "Incorrect command line argument: -C". In the makefile, there are many lines that say "make -C" followed by a directory name. Does this syntax not work in Windows? What is a correct way to do this? Is there any way to compile this for native use in Windows with this makefile?

  • Problem with number/type of arguments passed to an overloaded c++ constructor wrapped with swig.

    - by MiKo
I am trying to wrap a c++ class (let's call it "Spam") written by someone else with swig to expose it to Python. After solving several problems, I am able to import the module in python, but when I try to create an object of such class I obtain the following error: foo = Spam.Spam('abc',3) Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> File "Spam.py", line 96, in __init__ this = _Spam.new_Spam(*args) NotImplementedError: Wrong number of arguments for overloaded function 'new_Spam'. Possible C/C++ prototypes are: Spam(unsigned char *,unsigned long, bool, unsigned int,SSTree::io_action,char const *) Spam(unsigned char *,unsigned long, bool, unsigned int,SSTree::io_action) Spam(unsigned char *,unsigned long, bool, unsigned int) Spam(unsigned char *,unsigned long, bool) Spam(unsigned char *,unsigned long) Googling around, I realized that the error is probably caused by the type of the arguments and not by the number (which is quite confusing), but I still cannot identify. I suspect the problem lies in passing a string as the first argument, but have no idea on how to fix it (keep in mind that I know almost no c/c++).

  • Cygwin GCC + WinXP cmd.exe does nothing

    - by Stephen Friederichs
My basic problem is that if I run GCC from the windows command line (cmd.exe in Windows XP) and it does nothing: no .o files are created, no error messages, nothing. It will only throw an error message if I use DOS-style paths, but nothing else. When I run from the Cygwin shell then it will throws error messages as appropriate for the errors in the source and produces the .o files as it needs. Using 'make' from the DOS command line doesn't work either. Has anyone encountered this behavior before?

  • When can argv[0] have null ?

    - by andrew-dufresne
What I have understand about passing arguments to main() from command line is that argc has a minimum value of 1 and argv[0] will always have the program name with its path in it. If arguments are provided at the command line, then argc will have a value greater than one and argv1 to argv[argc-1] will have those arguments. Now a paragraph at this link says that argv[0] will be a string containing the program's name or a null string if that is not available. Now, how and when can argv[0] have null string? I mean program name with its path will always be available so when can it be null? Writer says that "if that is not available" but when and how it is possible that program name will not be available? Thanks for your time and support. Regards

  • Excel Worksheet assignment in VB.Net doesn't compile

    - by Brian Hooper
I'm converting a VB6 application into VB.Net and having trouble with the basics. I start off with:- Dim xl As Excel.Application Dim xlsheet As Excel.Worksheet Dim xlwbook As Excel.Workbook xl = New Excel.Application xlwbook = xl.Workbooks.Open(my_data.file_name) xlsheet = xlwbook.Sheets(1) but the last line doesn't compile; it reports Option Strict On disallows implicit conversion from 'Object' to 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet' I can make this go away by replacing the line with xlsheet = CType(xlwbook.Sheets(1), Excel.Worksheet) but that does't look like the right thing to do to me. If the assignment is correct, I would have thought the object should naturally have the correct type. So: does anyone know what the correct thing I should be doing here?

  • reading specific lines from a file

    - by MacUsers
What's the best way of reading only the specific lines (based on matching text) from a file? This is what I'm doing now: match_txt = "lhcb" for inFile in os.listdir('.'): readFile = open(inFile, 'r') lines = readFile.readlines() readFile.close() for line in lines: if line.find(match_txt)==0: #< do stuff here > i.e. I'm reading the lines, only with "lhcb" in it, from all the files in the present directory one by one. Is it the best way of doing that? Can it be done without loading the whole file in the memory in the first place?

  • Best tools to create valid XML files from an Excel file

    - by systempuntoout
I need to create a script that extracts some data from a complex Excel 2003 file (with multiple Sheets and different tables inside a single sheet) and produces different XML files that need to be validated against a given XSD file. My preferred language is Python; to create and validate XML files i would go with lxml. What do you suggest for parsing XSL files? Is xlrd the right tool to use for complex Excel files? Or do i need to convert all the sheets in CSV manually, and read files line by line, splitting and getting data? I accept C#, VB6 suggestions too.
