    Hi, I'm in a confusion. For our course (1 year ago) I used Stallings. I read it. It was fine. But I don't own any operating system's book. I want to buy a book on operating systems. I'm confused!! which one to pick? Modern Operating Systems (3rd Edition) ~ Andrew S. Tanenbaum (Author) Operating System Concepts ~ Abraham Silberschatz , Peter B. I've never used the product so I was wondering if anyone could point me to some resources about how to expose performance data so that it can be monitored with Hawk.     Hello, I have written a custom exception object. The reason for this is I want to track additional information when an error occurs. The only difference is, I do not have the GetObjectData method defined or the constructor with SerializationInfo defined. If I run the application as is, I receive an error that says: Type 'My.MyException' cannot be serialized. Consider marking it with the DataContractAttribute attribute, and marking all of its members you want serialized with the DataMemberAttribute attribute. If the type is a collection, consider marking it with the CollectionDataContractAttribute. If I add the DataContract / DataMember attributes to the class and its appropriate members on the server-side, I receive an error that says: Type cannot be ISerializable and have DataContractAttribute attribute. How do I serialize MyException so that I can pass an instance of it to my WCF service. Please note, I want to use my service from an Android app. Because of this, I don't want to do anything too Microsoft centric. That was my fear with DataContract / DataMember stuff.     I am trying to work with several projects on visual studio 2005. I have one project that depends on two others. I have included those two project in the first project solution, and set the dependencies correctly.     I am using the below class file, where some variables are declared to use in the entire application. Now i used that variable [BlockLogOut] in another class file to make the value True. I just put this below line and getting error in it.. "TypeInitializationException" Global.BlockLogOut = True; The wired thing is, it was working fine for many months and i am getting this error now on the above line. Of course i was modifying some other stuffs in the application, but surely not this class file.   • creating a .sh file programmatically under windows and running it on a linux system from cygwin

    i want to write program, in windows, which will write a .sh file, then connect to a linux machine via cygwin and ssh, and execute that .sh file. I've had to use dos2unix to convert .sh files that I created in windows to run under linux. Obviously if I am executing a script with ssh it will have to be linux formatted to work. so I need to know how to create a linux appropriate .sh file using c or openoffice basic or vBA. thanks!

    Hi, In my company we want to use Scrum lifecycle, we are using Team System 2010. Team System is great to manage projects developpment and Scrum lifecycle. However we are looking for a solution in order to take care of customers requirements. A tool which give the ability to customer to send us their requests so we can plan it for next sprint. Should i use TFS Web Access ? but which type of Work Item ? I think TFS in general (not only Web Access) is for developpment team, not for customers ... Any idea ? Thanks in advance.

  • What CPAN module can summarize error logs?

    I'm maintaining some website code that will soon dump all its errors and warnings into a log file. In order to make this a bit more pro-active i plan to parse this log file daily, summarize the warnings and errors (i.e. count the occurrence of each specific one and group by either warning/error) and then email this to the devs on the project. This would likely admittedly be rather trivial with a hash and some further fiddling, I wondered if there is a suitable module on CPAN that i could use to do this task. It would either be one that summarizes specifically perl error/warnings logs or one that summarizes arbitrary text files. Any suggestions?

  • get SSL Broken pipe error when try to make push notification

    We develop an iPhone app, and have push notification for development and ad hoc version working properly. But when we try to send push notification to real user devices in our database, we got SSL connection reset, then Broken pipe error. We think maybe there are too many devices in our database (more than 70000), so it is failed to send all messages at the same time. So we try to send messages to 1000 devices once, but still got this "Broken pipe" error for around 100 messages. And we are not sure whether the messages have been send. Any suggestion?

    I get a crash like this: #0 0x2c58def0 in raise () from /lib/libpthread.so.0 #1 0x2d9b8958 in abort () from /lib/libc.so.0 #2 0x2d9b7e34 in __malloc_consolidate () from /lib/libc.so.0 #3 0x2d9b6dc8 in malloc () from /lib/libc.so.0 I guess it is a heap corruption issue. uclibc does not have mcheck/mprobe. Valgrind does not seem to MIPS support and my app (which is multi-threaded) depends on hw specific drivers. Any suggestions to check the consistency of the heap and to detect corruption?

  • Debugging 500 Internal Server Error on PHP running on IIS7 cluster

    Recently my ISP switched our website to an IIS7.0 high availibility cluster. The website is running on PHP5.2.1 and I can only upload files (so no registry tweaks). I had tested the website before and everything seemed to be working, but now the checkout page fails with: 500 - Internal server error. There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed. As error messages go, this isn't very informative. I've tried: ini_set('display_errors', 1); ini_set('error_log', $file_php_can_write_to ); but both don't seem to do anything. Anyone know how to get better debugging output?

As the variable belongs to the data segment of each process, the final value is 10 because the increment is independent. However, the memory address of the shared variables is the same, you can try compiling and watching the output of the program. How can that be explained ? I cannot understand that, I thought I knew how the fork() works, but this seems very odd.. I need an explanation on why the address is the same, although they are separate variables.

    I am trying to run 'make' on a module in User Mode Linux to install a simple makefile. Here is my make file: obj-m := hello.o KDIR := /lib/modules/$(shell uname -r)/build PWD := $(shell pwd) default: $(MAKE) -C $(KDIR) SUBDIRS=$(PWD) modules When I run this in User Mode Linux I get the following error: make[1]: Entering directory /lib/modules/2.6.28/build' make[1]: *** No rule to make targetmodules'. Stop. make[1]: Leaving directory `/lib/modules/2.6.28/build' make: * [default] Error 2 The problem is that no files are present under /lib/modules/. There's no directory for 2.6.28 or build. From what I've read, these should be symlinks to /usr/src, but under /usr/src, I don't see any files under that either.

  • Can I partition the C# System.Threading.ThreadPool?

    I love ThreadPool. It makes my life better. However, my love may have quietly turned into an abusive relationship that I need to escape from, so I need some advice from my SO brothers (and presumably sisters, although I haven't seen any actual evidence of that yet). My basic problem is that I have several different libraries that are all using the threadpool in an uncoordinated way, and running out of threads is a possibility. I was hoping there was some way I could partition the ThreadPool up so I could give a certain class 1 thread, another 20 threads, another 5 threads, and so on. I know I could write my own ThreadPool implementation. I don't want to do that, because I'm lazy. So, is there a simple solution already out there? Currently I'm constrained to using the 3.5 CLR. I know a lot of this stuff becomes easier in 4.0.

    Hi, I'm using rails 2.3 and I'm trying to compress (gzip) text that I'd like to save using ActiveRecord into a sqlite database. However, the compressed text isn't being saved b/c I get this type of error: SQLite3::SQLException: unrecognized token: "'x##U?#7 Any thoughts on what I can do to avoid this error? should I compress the text in some other fashion? should I save the data using some other method(s)?
