  My webapp is trowing these exceptions intermitently ever since we migrated to Mono + Apache: The error sounds more like a problem reading/processing some assembly, so I was wondering if I should be worried that there might be a problem with the hard-drive? • Display last picture

  Hi I'm inserting an image from the camera (Taking a picture) into the MediaStore.Images.Media datastore. Does anyone know how I can go about displaying the last picture taken? I used Uri image = ContentUris.withAppendedId(externalContentUri, 45); to display an image from the datastore but obviously 45 is not the correct image. I try to pass the information from the previous activity (Camera) to the display activity but I'm assuming due to the photo call back being its own thread the value never gets set. • Why won't my program terminate?

  I have a .NET Compact Framework app that can runs on three windows machines (Desktop windows and two WinCE machines) and on the WinCE devices, the process never terminates on exit, even if I call Application.Exit(). Besides .NET, it uses one COM component (which does everything on the UI thread). If I break into the debugger after exitting, Visual Studio shows only one thread and a completely blank call stack. What could possibly cause this? Update: My process is terminating on the desktop but not the WinCE machines. I tried to force the process to terminate with the following code, but it doesn't work: [DllImport("coredll.dll")] static extern int TerminateProcess(IntPtr hProcess, uint uExitCode); static public void ExitProcess() { if (Platform.IsWindowsCE) TerminateProcess(new IntPtr(-1), 0); Application.Exit(); } There are also supposed to be ExitProcess() and GetCurrentProcess() APIs like the following, but if I try to call them, I get EntryPointNotFoundException. • How can I run a BitchX when I don't have ssh or shell access?

  I just installed an IRC bot, B****X (Don't ask, I don't know - the real name is not censored). I did all of the configuration and chmod'ed the pl files to 755, but running it won't work. My host does not allow SSH/Shell (which is how the documentation says to runs he script), but just going to the URL usually works because of this. However, I get a 500 (Internal Server Error) error. Use the XmlInclude or SoapInclude attribute to specify types that are not known statically. I know that adding a [XmlInclude(typeof(C))] attribute with [XmlRoot] would solve the problem. But I want to achieve it dynamically. Because in my project class C is not known prior to loading. Class C is being loaded as a plugin, so it is not possible for me to add XmlInclude attribute there. I tried also with TypeDescriptor.AddAttributes(typeof(AList), new[] { new XmlIncludeAttribute(c.GetType()) }); before var type = typeof (AList); but no use. It is still giving the same exception. Does any one have any idea on how to achieve it?

• Programmatically modifying a file on Windows Server 2008 (Web Ed.)

  I have written a .NET 2008 application, incorporating Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel, that modifies an existing Excel 2007 spreadsheet. It works perfectly on my WinXP development computer. When I upload the app to a Microsoft Web Server 2008, it opens the file and reads from the file, but when the app tries to save the file, it throws this exception: "System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x800A03EC): 'july2009.xlsx' is read-only. To save a copy, click OK, then give the workbook a new name in the Save As dialog box." The file is NOT read-only, nor is it opened by any other user or app. The app and the Excel file both reside on the D: (data-only) drive. My first instinct was to look at file permissions. When nothing else worked, I literally created a temporary Group, added EVERY user and security entity to it and granted the group full control of the entire D: drive. No luck. Then I tried manually elevating the permission by running my app as administrator. No luck. Finally, I copied the file to my XP development computer and ran the app there. Of course it worked perfectly. Can anyone please tell me how to give my program permission to edit a file on Server 2008? Thanks!

Is this even possible ? The reason why I am using Silverlight is that I want to preview the image before uploading it to server and it is very simple in Silverlight. I failed to do that in JavaScript and that is why Silverlight might be more useful here.

  I have an entity and its mapping: public class Test { public virtual int Id { get; set; } public virtual string Name { get; set; } public virtual string Description { get; set; } } public class TestMap : EntityMap<Test> { public TestMap() { Id(x => x.Id); Map(x => x.Name); Map(x => x.Description); } } I'm trying to run a query on it (to grab it out of the database): var keyword = "test" // this is coming in from the user keyword = keyword.ToLower(); // convert it to all lower-case var results = session.Linq<Test> .Where(x => x.Name.ToLower().Contains(keyword)); results.Count(); // execute the query However, whenever I run this query, I get the following exception: Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. Parameter name: index Am I right when I say that, currently, Linq to NHibernate does not support ToLower()? And if so, is there an alternative that allows me to search for a string in the middle of another string that Linq to NHibernate is compatible with? For example, if the user searches for kap, I need it to match Kapiolani, Makapuu, and Lapkap.

• Can't create new xib files in Xcode projects

  This one is a doozy... My buddy just downloaded the iPhone SDK on his Snow Leopard MacBook Pro. No matter what kind of project he creates (Window Based, View Based, etc...,) he can't create or use his own xib files. The project will compile and run fine until he adds a new xib file. Here are some symptoms: When he selects a pre-generated xib in Xcode (such as MainWindow.xib), no preview is shown on the right hand side. Double clicking on this file will open it in interface builder (This is correct behavior). When he selects his own custom xib, the preview pane displays the XML content of the xib. Double clicking on his custom xib opens up the XML file in Xcode - as if it were a standard code file (This is jacked up). Opening his custom xib from finder opens it in Interface Builder. When building the application, the build warning says something to the effect of "Warning: No rule to process file /path/to/CustomXib of type sourcecode.xib for architecture i386" At runtime he gets the error: Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '-[UIViewController _loadViewFromNibNamed:bundle:] was unable to load a nib named "MyCustomXib"' We've uninstalled Xcode from the command line and reinstalled. I've verified that it's the right version for his machine. I'm stumped!

  I suspected there was some hidden magic somewhere that stopped what looks like actual method calls all over the place in T4MVC. Then I had a view fail to compile, and the stackTrace went into my actual method. Ensure that the type corresponding to the XML is added to the known types collection of the service. If I comment out the GetBar operation from IFooBarService, it works fine. I know I'm missing an important concept here - just don't know quite what to look for. What is the proper way to construct my contract types, so that they can be properly deserialized?

• JConsole does not connect when a program is waiting for a console input

  Hi, I have a problem similar to the one mentioned here. I have a program which launches a selenium browser and refreshes it every 2 seconds. My idea here was to monitor the memory usage of my application as the page is being hit. This console program does a "System.in.read" and when a user presses enter key, this stops the browser refresh thread. I run the program and it runs as I would expect it to. But when I fire jconsole and attach it to the process, it looks like jconsole waits forever to attach. This is because of the "System.in.read", apparently as shown in the JConsole source. In my code it makes perfect sense for me to terminte the browser when user presses something so is there any alternative available at all ?   I'm doing some work on the input buffers for my kernel, and I had some questions. On Dual Core machines, I know that more than one "process" can be running simultaneously. What I don't know is how the OS and the individual programs work to protect collisions in data. There are two things I'd like to know on this topic: (1) Where do interrupts occur? Are they guaranteed to occur on one core and not the other, and could this be used to make sure that real-time operations on one core were not interrupted by, say, file IO which could be handled on the other core? (I'd logically assume that the interrupts would happen on the 1st core, but is that always true, and how would you tell? Or perhaps does each core have its own settings for interrupts? Wouldn't that lead to a scenario where each core could react simultaneously to the same interrupt, possibly in different ways?) (2) How does the dual core processor handle opcode memory collision? If one core is reading an address in memory at exactly the same time that another core is writing to that same address in memory, what happens? Is an exception thrown, or is a value read? (I'd assume the write would work either way.) If a value is read, is it guaranteed to be either the old or new value at the time of the collision? I understand that programs should ideally be written to avoid these kinds of complications, but the OS certainly can't expect that, and will need to be able to handle such events without choking on itself.

• How do I correctly use Unity to pass a ConnectionString to my repository classes?

  I've literally just started using the Unity Application Blocks Dependency Injection library from Microsoft, and I've come unstuck. This is my IoC class that'll handle the instantiation of my concrete classes to their interface types (so I don't have to keep called Resolve on the IoC container each time I want a repository in my controller): public class IoC { public static void Intialise(UnityConfigurationSection section, string connectionString) { _connectionString = connectionString; _container = new UnityContainer(); section.Configure(_container); } private static IUnityContainer _container; private static string _connectionString; public static IMovementRepository MovementRepository { get { return _container.Resolve<IMovementRepository>(); } } } So, the idea is that from my Controller, I can just do the following: _repository = IoC.MovementRepository; I am currently getting the error: Exception is: InvalidOperationException - The type String cannot be constructed. You must configure the container to supply this value. Now, I'm assuming this is because my mapped concrete implementation requires a single string parameter for its constructor. The concrete class is as follows: public sealed class MovementRepository : Repository, IMovementRepository { public MovementRepository(string connectionString) : base(connectionString) { } } Which inherits from: public abstract class Repository { public Repository(string connectionString) { _connectionString = connectionString; } public virtual string ConnectionString { get { return _connectionString; } } private readonly string _connectionString; } Now, am I doing this the correct way? Should I not have a constructor in my concrete implementation of a loosely coupled type?
