• ssh refuses to authenticate keys

  So I am setting up a connection between my machine [fedora 17] and a virtual machine running in Virtual Box in which is running CentOS 5. • Best way to randomly select rows *per* column in SQL Server

  A search of SO yields many results describing how to select random rows of data from a database table. My requirement is a bit different, though, in that I'd like to select individual columns from across random rows in the most efficient/random/interesting way possible. To better illustrate: I have a large Customers table, and from that I'd like to generate a bunch of fictitious demo Customer records that aren't real people. I'm thinking of just querying randomly from the Customers table, and then randomly pairing FirstNames with LastNames, Address, City, State, etc. So if this is my real Customer data (simplified): FirstName LastName State ========================== Sally Simpson SD Will Warren WI Mike Malone MN Kelly Kline KS Then I'd generate several records that look like this: FirstName LastName State ========================== Sally Warren MN Kelly Malone SD Etc. My initial approach works, but it lacks the elegance that I'm hoping the final answer will provide. (I'm particularly unhappy with the repetitiveness of the subqueries, and the fact that this solution requires a known/fixed number of fields and therefore isn't reusable.) • How can I get latency info from Android's AudioTrack class?

  I've noticed that the C++ classes underlying the AudioTrack and AudioRecord APIs in Android both have a latency() method that is not exposed via JNI. As far as I can see, the latency() method in AudioRecord still does not take into account the hardware latency (they have a TODO comment for that), but the latency() method in AudioTrack does add in the hardware latency. I absolutely need to get this latency value from AudioTrack. Is there any possible way I can do this? I don't care what kind of crazy hack is needed as long as it doesn't require a rooted phone (the resulting code must still be packaged as an app on the market).

When I resize the Form of my Device, the Draw method is still called, but doesnt throw an Exception, it looks like this: device.Clear(ClearFlags.Target, Color.Red, 0, 0); device.BeginScene(); // here is out commented code device.EndScene(); device.Present(); In another method, I wrote this: renderToSurface.BeginScene(surfaces[currentIndex]); // here is out commented code renderToSurface.EndScene(Filter.None); and this method seems to throw a nullpointer exception when I resize the window; So my question is: - where to reset / restore / handle the renderToSurface class? This means the laptop runs with a dpi of 150 and the monitor runs at a dpi of 90. • Any simple tools for re-loading a specified web page periodically (Windows)?

  I've got a website that is exhibiting slow performance on the first load and would like to attempt to load it every 5 minutes or so to keep the cache fresh. Are there any simple tools to accomplish this? Scheduled tasks doesn't have quite the time resolution I need. The tricky thing is that this site uses Windows authentication so a wget script won't work. I'm also worried about instantiating a bunch of copies of internet explorer or attempting to kill iexplore.exe tasks blindly.

• Decrypting EFS w/o altering timestamp - possible?

  Hi, I'd like to decrypt some EFS-encrypted files, but I do not know how to do that without altering the timestamp. When encrypting/decrypting files, the modified-time is set to the current time. I'd like to preserve the original timestamp, as the files have not really changed. Is this possible? Solutions i dont think work copy to/from FAT (timestamp resolution differs) copy to from Samba share (same) programmatically copy original timestamp and reapply after decryption (possible, but need to handle decryption time which may vary)

  I follow the technique specified in Roy Osherove's The Art Of Unit Testing book while naming test methods - MethodName_Scenario_Expectation. It suits perfectly well for my 'unit' tests. But,for tests that I write in 'controller' or 'coordinator' class, there isn't necessarily a method which I want to test. For these tests, I generate multiple conditions which make up one scenario and then I verify the expectation. For example, I may set some properties on different instances, generate an event and then verify that my expectations from controller/coordinator is being met. Now, my controller handles events using a private event handler. Here my scenario is that, I set some properties, say 3 condition1,condition2 and condition3 Also, my scenario includes an event is raised I don't have a method name as my event handler is private. How do I name such a test method?

• .NET Database Apps: Your Preferred Setup

  I'm struggling to settle into a pattern for developing typical database driven apps in C# and Visual Studio. There are so many ways to set them up, using drag/drop datasets and adapters or writing the queries manually in ADO.NET or Linq to SQL, Linq to Entities, to bind or not to data bind etc etc. Where to store the connection string, in app.config or in a method or both etc etc. So many tutorials and all of them are different. Everytime I write something I start hating the way it looks and works, so I scrap it and start over. It's getting a bit tedious. Maybe it's alittle of the OCD in me. Would any of you professional developers out there share your method of setting up and structuring your database logic and maybe some sample code? It's really how to go about organizing the code and the method(s) of interacting with SQL that I'm trying to get into a routine with, one that works and won't get me laughed at by someone reviewing it.

• How do I pass parameters between request-scoped beans

  This is a question that has been bothering me for sometime. My application uses ICEFaces for our UI framework and Spring 2.5 for Dependency Injection. In addition, Spring actually maintains all of our backing beans, not the ICEFaces framework, so our faces-config is basically empty. Navigation is not even really handled through navigation-rules. We perform manual redirects to new windows using window.open. All of our beans are defined in our appContext file as being request-scoped. I have Page ABC which is backed by BackingBeanABC. Inside that backing bean, I have a parameter say: private Order order; I then have Page XYZ backed by BackingBeanXYZ. When I redirect from page ABC to page XYZ, I want to transfer the 'order' property from ABC to XYZ. The problem is since everything is request-scoped and I'm performing a redirect, I am losing the value of 'description'. There has got to be an easier way to pass objects between beans in request scope during a redirect. Can anyone assist with this issue?

• How to perform Linq select new with datetime in SQL 2008

  In our C# code I recently changed a line from inside a linq-to-sql select new query as follows: OrderDate = (p.OrderDate.HasValue ? p.OrderDate.Value.Year.ToString() + "-" + p.OrderDate.Value.Month.ToString() + "-" + p.OrderDate.Value.Day.ToString() : "") To: OrderDate = (p.OrderDate.HasValue ? p.OrderDate.Value.ToString("yyyy-mm-dd") : "") The change makes the line smaller and cleaner. It also works fine with our SQL 2008 database in our development environment. However, when the code deployed to our production environment which uses SQL 2005 I received an exception stating: Nullable Type must have a value. For further analysis I copied (p.OrderDate.HasValue ? p.OrderDate.Value.ToString("yyyy-mm-dd") : "") into a string (outside of a Linq statement) and had no problems at all, so it only causes an in issue inside my Linq. Is this problem just something to do with SQL 2005 using different date formats than from SQL 2008? Here's more of the Linq: dt = FilteredOrders.Where(x => x != null).Select(p => new { Order = p.OrderId, link = "/order/" + p.OrderId.ToString(), StudentId = (p.PersonId.HasValue ? p.PersonId.Value : 0), FirstName = p.IdentifierAccount.Person.FirstName, LastName = p.IdentifierAccount.Person.LastName, DeliverBy = p.DeliverBy, OrderDate = p.OrderDate.HasValue ? p.OrderDate.Value.Date.ToString("yyyy-mm-dd") : ""}).ToDataTable(); This is selecting from a List of Order objects. The FilteredOrders list is from another linq-to-sql query and I call .AsEnumerable on it before giving it to this particular select new query.   I see there is a :user_ssl option in attachment_fu which checks the amazon_s3.yml file in order to serve files via https:// In the s3_backend.rb you have this method: def self.protocol @protocol ||= s3_config[:use_ssl] ? 'https://' : 'http://' end But this then makes it serve ALL s3 attachments with SSL. I'd like to make it dynamic depending if the current request was made with https:// i.e: if request.ssl? @protocol = "https://" else @protocol = "http://" end How can I make it work in this way? I've tried modifying the method and then get the NameError: undefined local variable or method `request' for Technoweenie::AttachmentFu::Backends::S3Backend:Module error

• Why does my jQuery animation require an extra click in IE8 to finish?

  I am pretty new to jQuery in general, however the following code works perfectly in Chrome and Firefox, but not in IE8. In IE8, I have to click anywhere on the page to start the animation after selecting a radio button. • Error calling webservice from JQuery

  I have a strange problem when I'm trying to call a simple webservice method from Jquery. Locally it works fine, but on my test-server it does not. The jquery request looks like this (only showing the actual request and not the rest of the method): $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "/Service/Service.asmx/AddTab", data: "tab=" + element.innerHTML, success: function(msg) { alert('success'); } }); When I run this locally from the test-server it works fine, which has me wondering if it could be some setting that I've missed in the IIS. If I navigate to the .asmx file and click the AddTab method I get a list of SOAP 1.1 and SOAP 1.2 XML, but not the HTTP POST request. If I navigate to it locally I get all three (SOAP 1.1, SOAP 1.2 and HTTP Post) The service is set up as follows: [WebService(Namespace = "mynamespace")] [WebServiceBinding(ConformsTo = WsiProfiles.BasicProfile1_1)] [System.ComponentModel.ToolboxItem(false)] [ScriptService()] public class Service : System.Web.Services.WebService { [WebMethod(EnableSession=true)] [ScriptMethod()] public void AddTab(string tab) { //Some code to add a tab which evidently works locally... } } Anyone have a clue what I'm missing here?

  What is the best way to upload a file to a Document Library on a SharePoint server through the built-in web services that version WSS 3.0 exposes? Following the two initial answers... We definitely need to use the Web Service layer as we will be making these calls from remote client applications. The WebDAV method would work for us, but we would prefer to be consistent with the web service integration method. There is additionally a web service to upload files, painful but works all the time. Are you referring to the “Copy” service? We have been successful with this service’s CopyIntoItems method. Would this be the recommended way to upload a file to Document Libraries using only the WSS web service API? I have posted our code as a suggested answer.

  I'm using jquery with the jquery form plugin. I read through a bunch of posts, the docs, etc., and I'm still having trouble with what I believe to be simple. I have a form with some simple text inputs and a couple textareas, and I have this link that I want to trigger submission of that form to a specific method (/email): <a id="email-data">Send Email</a> and this jquery in doc ready: $('#email-data').click(function() { var options = { url: '/email/', success: alert('Email sent.') }; $('#report-giftcard-sales-form').ajaxSubmit(options); }); So I would expect it to submit to my /email method, but no such luck. Currently I just have the /email method logging a debug message, so it's as simple as can be. Any help is greatly appreciated.

• Question on Win32 LogonUser API and the Logon Type

  We have developed a ASP.NET web application and has implemented a custom authentication solution using active directory as the credentials store. Our front end application uses a normal login form to capture the user name and password and leverages the Win32 LogonUser method to authenticate the user’s credentials. When we are calling the LogonUser method, we are using the LOGON32_LOGON_NETWORK as the logon type. The issue we have found is that user profile folders are being created under the C:\Users folder of the web server. The folder seems to be created when a new user who has never logged on before is logging in for the first time. As the number of new users logging into the application grows, disk space is shrinking due to the large number of new user folders getting created. Has anyone seen this behavior with the Win32 LogonUser method? Does anyone know how to disable this behavior?

  Hi I have seen this often in code, but when I speak of it i don't know the name of such 'pattern' I have a method with 2 arguments that calls an overloaded method that has 3 arguments and intentionality sets the 3rd one to empty string. public DoWork(string name, string phoneNumber) { CreateContact(name, phoneNumber, string.Empty) } public DoWork(string name, string phoneNumber, string emailAddress) { //do the work } The reason I'm doing this is I to not duplicate code, and allow the existing callers to still call the method that has only 2 parameters. I have associate a few tags to this question, but it probably fit in more categories of questions. Is this a pattern, and does it have a name?

  Hello guys, I'm having a problem with the Create method of the NerdDinner tutorial, which is very good BTW. As you can see here http://nerddinnerbook.s3.amazonaws.com/Part5.htm in the Create method, he removed the ID field of the aspx page. I did that too, but I cannot add any dinners because I get a primary key violation. How is NerdDinner controlling the ids of each dinner? I revised the tutorial and could not see any references to identity fields on SQL database.
