• Json problem with Page Method call on IE 8.

In FF, the code works perfectly, in IE8 I get the error: 'ResourceList[...].id' is null or not an object.   I'm using the built-in ajax functionality of MVC2. Basically the user types a search query, and on every key press a set of results for the query is shown. This works fine in almost all cases, but sometimes the server is a bit slow with a single response, and thus the result for the next key stroke is returned before the previous. When the previous key stroke result set is finally returned to the client it will overwrite the results for the newer search query that should actually have been shown. On Upload button click page flow: Page load - AddScriptToPage is executed (registers scripts with no columns) Then AddScriptToPage in btnclick event is executed (registers scripts with columns) Why is this script not getting registered even though it is executed on vb code on uploadclick event? And why does it show up after another button click and not original button click that calls this event?

  The code I'm writing receives an ArrayList from unmanaged code, and this ArrayList will always contain one or more objects of type Grid_Heading_Blk. I've considered changing this ArrayList to a generic List, but I'm unsure if the conversion operation will be so expensive as to nullify the benefits of working with the generic list. Currently, I'm just running a foreach (Grid_Heading_Blk in myArrayList) operation to work with the ArrayList contents after passing the ArrayList to the class that will use it. Should I convert the ArrayList to a generic typed list? And if so, what is the most efficient way of doing so?

  I'm building a tool that authors/edits XML files, and I want to be able to populate it with template fragments defined in another XML file. For example, the tool has an "Add FooBarBaz Element" button that adds a element to the new document being created, and I want to add FooBarBaz by copying it from a template. Or let's say this is my template file: <Templates> <FooBarBaz Attribute="Value"> <ChildElement/> </FooBarBaz> </Templates> I can then grab a template fragment with .GetElementsByTagName("FooBarBaz"), and I'd like to be able to inject it into the new document with something like .AppendChild(templateNode). But the problem is that an XmlNode cannot be copied from one XmlDocument to another, even if you use .Clone() or .CloneNode(), because AppendChild() throws an exception saying that the template element belongs to another context. Is there an easy way to copy a System.Xml.XmlNode between System.Xml.XmlDocuments?

  hey people hope all is well.. i am trying to create a form in VS using ASP that when upon submitting a form the details will get automatically stored in an xml file which can be accessed later on a chosen file save path i have 2 files ... "Contact.aspx" and "Contact.aspx.vb" i have created the form in the "Contact.aspx" and when trying to enter the fields in the "contact.aspx.vb" i keep getting several errors such as for example... • Why is my form triggering the wrong controller action?

  I have code that's working beautifully on my development machine, but when deployed to the server is throwing null reference exception. So, I can't step through the code, but I've pinned down the culprit. But now I am puzzled. Here's the code. The question is below. Now here's the quandary.. The first line that sets the label returns False, so certs is not null. But the second line throws an null reference exception. How is this possible?

  Suppose I have a Dictionary like so: Dictionary<string, Stream> How can I get a list (or IEnumerable or whatever) of JUST the Keys from this dictionary? Is this possible? I could enumerate the dictionary, and extract the keys one by one, but I was hoping to avoid this. In my instance, the Dictionary contains a list of filenames (file1.doc, filex.bmp etc...) and the stream content of the file from another part of the application.

• Saving ntext data from SQL Server to file directory using asp

  A variety of files (pdf, images, etc.) are stored in a ntext field on a MS SQL Server. I am not sure what type is in this field, other than it shows question marks and undefined characters, I am assuming they are binary type. The script is supposed to iterate through the rows and extract and save these files to a temp directory. "filename" and "contenttype" are given, and "data" is whatever is in the ntext field. I have tried several solutions: 1) data.SaveToFile "/temp/"&filename, 2 Error: Object required: '????????????????????' ??? 2) File.WriteAllBytes "/temp/"&filename, data Error: Object required: 'File' I have no idea how to import this, or the Server for MapPath.   I'm a bit fuzzy on the best way to solve the problem of needing a list for each of my business objects that implements some overridden functions. Here's the setup: I have a baseObject that sets up database, and has its proper Dispose() method All my other business objects inherit from it, and if necessary, override Dispose() Some of these classes also contain arrays (lists) of other objects. So I create a class that holds a List of these. I'm aware I could just use the generic List, but that doesn't let me add extra features like Dispose() so it will loop through and clean up. So if I had objects called User, Project and Schedule, I would create UserList, ProjectList, ScheduleList. In the past, I have simply had these inherit from List< with the appropriate class named and then written the pile of common functions I wanted it to have, like Dispose(). this meant I would verify by hand, that each of these List classes had the same set of methods. Some of these classes had pretty simple versions of these methods that could have been inherited from a base list class. I could write an interface, to force me to ensure that each of my List classes has the same functions, but interfaces don't let me write common base functions that SOME of the lists might override. I had tried to write a baseObjectList that inherited from List, and then make my other Lists inherit from that, but there are issues with that (which is really why I came here). One of which was trying to use the Find() method with a predicate. I've simplified the problem down to just a discussion of Dispose() method on the list that loops through and disposes its contents, but in reality, I have several other common functions that I want all my lists to have. What's the best practice to solve this organizational matter?

  I have a MVC project that has a Linq to SQL dbml class. It is a table called Clients that houses client information. I can easily get the information to display in a View using the code I followed in Nerd Dinner but I have added a stored procedure to the dbml and it's result set is of IQueryable, not IQueryable. I need to convert IQueryable to IQueryable so I can display it in the same View. The reason for the sproc is so I can pass a search string tothe sproc and return the same information as a full list but filtered on the search. I know I can use Linq to filter the whole list but I don't want the whole list so I am using the sproc. Here is the code in my ClientRepository with a comment where I need to convert. • Mono - Could not find a 'Sub Main' in ''

  I started a new solution (with multiple projects) and am trying to get it to build. Initially I was getting an internal compiler error and thought maybe it had to do with MySql, so I removed all references to MySql. Now I am getting the error "Could not find a 'Sub Main' in ''". I have made sure that all of my projects have a Main subroutine like this: Public Shared Sub Main() End Sub 2 out of the 7 projects will compile. I don't know what makes these projects different from the others, and the error message isn't very helpful. Any experience with this one?

• How do I create a new AnyType[] array?

  Which is the best practice in this situation? I would like an un-initialized array of the same type and length as the original. public static <AnyType extends Comparable<? super AnyType>> void someFunction(AnyType[] someArray) { AnyType[] anotherArray = (AnyType[]) new Comparable[someArray.length]; ...or...
