  • Homepage 301 Redirect to SSL Homepage

    I'm hoping somebody might be able to provide a bit of advice on an issue I am having. I have 1 site where we implemented a 301 redirect on the homepage from http to https. We have links on the homepage to other parts of the site that are not under SSL (in fact there is only one other page under SSL). When I go to our webmaster account I notice that we are not being provided with any webmaster information (search queries, backlinks) related to our homepage under SSL. Does anybody have any advice on how we can correctly set this up or be sure that Google is fetching the correct information?

  • mod_wsgi on Plesk server

    I've installed mod_wsgi on my Plesk server, but I can't get it to behave the way I'd like. If I add WSGIScriptAlias /python /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/httpdocs/python/test.wsgi To my config file, going to http://domain.com/python/blah triggers my test.wsgi script. However, going to any domain on my server and adding /python triggers my script as well. How can I limit it to one specific domain without breaking anything in Plesk? Hudson is also free like CCNet and built in java. - CCNet has its legacy support to .Net applications where as Hudson can be easily configured on both the environments (.Net and Java). - One of the major differences in CCNet and Hudson is the richer GUI of Hudson provide user interactive screens for project configuration where as in CCNet we have to play with a few xml configuration files. Both the tools are capable of providing basic features of continuous integration e.g.:- - Source Control configuration - Code Compilation/Build - Ad hoc plugin tools to be configured along with compilation Support for adhoc tools seems to be bigger with CCNet e.g. There are almost every source control plugin available with CCNet where as Hudson has support for limited source control servers. Basically there is an interseting point to see is that there are 2 major partsof whole CI system one performed by build tool and rest. Build tool takes care of all adhoc plugin tools  so no matter if CI tool does not have plugin for that tool if thet tools provides command line support that can be configured in build tool and that build tool is then configured with CI tool inturn. For example if I have a build script configured in MSBuild and CCNet can be easily switched to Hudson.   • using flock in bash, why does killing a child process kill the parent process too?

    In the code snippet below, I want the script to be limited to only running one copy at a time, and for it to restart server.x if it dies for any reason. Without flock involved, the loop correctly restarts if I kill the server process, but once I use flock to ensure the script is only running once, if I kill server.x it also kills the parent process. How can I ensure that killing the child process in a flock script keeps the parent around? #!/bin/bash set -e ( flock -x -n 200 while true do ./server.x $1 done ) 200>/var/lock/.m_rst.$1.lock

  • Apache + mod_php Ignores SUID?

    Does apache or mod_php cause a SUID flag to be ignored when using the shell_exec command from a web accessed PHP script? I'm trying to allow a web accessible PHP script to rename some files which the apache user does not have write access to. I don't want to give it access to write these, as I only want one controlled script to be able to do this. I'm trying to avoid SUDO and the config needed or the headache/insecurity of using a que called from a privileged users cron, and it seemed like I should be able to use SUID to accomplish this.   • What is the best strategy for transforming unicode strings into filenames?

    I have a bunch (thousands) of resources in an RDF/XML file. I am writing a certain subset of the resources to files -- one file for each, and I'm using the resource's title property as the file name. However, the titles are every day article, website, and blog post titles, so they contain characters unsafe for a URI (the necessary step for constructing a valid file path). I know of the Jersey UriBuilder but I can't quite get it to work for my needs as I detailed in a different question on SO. Some possibilities I have considered are: Since each resource should also have an associated URL, I could try to use the name of the file on the server. The down side of this is sometimes people don't name their content logically and I think the title of an article better reflects the content that will be in each text file. Construct a white list of valid characters and parse the string myself defining substitutions for unsafe characters. The downside of this is the result could be just as unreadable as the former solution because presumably the content creators went through a similar process when placing the files on their server. Choose a more generic naming scheme, place the title in the text file along with the other attributes, and tell my boss to live with it. So my question here is, what methods work well for dealing with a scenario where you need to construct file names out of strings with potentially unsafe characters? Is there a solution that better fills out my constraints?

  • How to check for the existence of a response header in Nginx rules?

    Setting up the rewriting rules for the request proved to be quite easy in Nginx. For the response, not so much (at least, not for me). I want to strip the Content-Type header from the response if the Content-Length header of the response isn't set. I have the NginxHttpHeadersMoreModule installed, so that should allow me to remove the header, but I can't seem to find a way to check for the existence of the Content-Length header of the response using a rule in Nginx's configuration. Any suggestions on how to do this would be most appreciated!

  • How to trigger cross-platform jobs between Windows and Unix

    I have an application which has components on Windows and Unix. I need to run overnight jobs which initiate tasks/jobs on both environment. These need to be sequenced so I cannot simple use Cron / Task Scheduler. For each job, there will be a controlling script either on Windows or Unix, but this script will need to initiate jobs on the other environment and detect when they are complete and a success/failure code. In the past I have achieved this using 'flag files' on a samba share. This worked but required 'polling' behaviour on the receiving end which I do not consider optimal. I would prefer not to have to embed user credentials in script if possible.

    Is there any way how to use multiple SkyDrive accounts on one computer running MAC OS X or Windows 8? I would like to sync data from different accounts to different folder and not to merge these accounts to one. The reason is that every SkyDrive has it's storage limits and I'm using every account for different work data. The result should be the following: I have a number of SkyDrive accounts every for different work, let's say: S1 S2 S3 I would like to sync exactly the same number of folders on computer using different accounts to sync them: SkyDriveS1Folder - (folder on computer which syncing the content of S1 SkyDrive) SkyDriveS2Folder - (folder on computer which syncing the content of S2 SkyDrive) SkyDriveS3Folder - (folder on computer which syncing the content of S3 SkyDrive) Is it possible somehow? I found a workaround for Windows machines (http://superuser.com/questions/525932/running-multiple-instances-of-microsoft-skydrive) but is there anything for MAC OS X machines?   • How to start a task before networking?

    I've written an upstart task that modifies /etc/network/interfaces. (Actually a file sourced into it.) Which start on condition do I need to declare to let my task run before any networking jobs? I've tried start on starting networking, but that's apparently too late. When I log in after booting I can see that the changes were written, but obviously they are not used: the new config states a static IP, but the boot process waits for a non-existing DHCP server (old config) to time out. I've also tried start on starting network-interface INTERFACE=eth0, which didn't work either. IIRC there was an error in the log that the change couldn't be written. Background: I need a VM template that can be cloned and the clones configured through a script. Among other settings, I need to give them a static IP address to access them from the host. I use guestfish to write a config file to one of the virtual disks and let a script apply these settings to the system. I don't want that disk to contain an actual system settings file. I can't modify /etc directly, because that disk is shared (copy-on-write/diff) among the clones and guestfish apparently doesn't support that type of image. I could also let them use DHCP and setup a server that assigns IP by MAC, but I'm afraid of the complexity. I could also add just another virtual disk for configuration files, but if possible I'd prefer to store settings directly on the system disk image. Used software: Ubuntu Server 12.04, VirtualBox. The configuration modifier is a self written ruby script.

  • Licensing a JavaScript library

    I am developing a free, open-source (duh) JavaScript library, and wondering how to license it. I was considering the GNU GPL, but I heard that I must distribute the license with the software, and I'm not sure anymore. I would like the library to be available much like jQuery: In a free, downloadable script, preferably in either original or minified form. Am I mistaken about the GNU GPL license terms? jQuery is dual licensed under GNU GPL or MIT licenses. How does the GPL apply to single script files like that? Can I license my library with nothing more than a few sentences in the script file? Is there another license that better suits my needs? What would be nice is a license that allows you to put the URL in the source, for people to read if they want. I don't know that many do, unless I am mistaken. I am generally looking to release the library as free software like the GPL specifies, but don't want to have to force licensees to download the full license unless they wish to read it.

  • GIMP Slow Startup

    Is there any way to speed up GIMP's startup time on Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit 1.6 [Dual] Intel Processors? On XP [different computer], it loads in less than 3 seconds. On Vista, it takes 20 seconds: 2 Seconds (other - fonts, brushes, etc) 18 Seconds (extension-script-fu) It just freezes at extension-script-fu. Looking at ProcessExplorer (or Task Manager, whatever), I see that it's not taking any CPU. EDIT: it does seem to be taking 50% of the CPU. It gets stuck for about 18 seconds, then starts working again, and the actual GIMP program pops up [...finally]. I have the latest stable version running (I think). I tried it with XP SP2 Compatibiliy mode and/or Run As Administrator, but that didn't help. EDIT: One way would be to disable script-fu. Does anyone know how to disable it at startup? (NOTE: Just wanted to point out that the title and the tags are the same. :D )

  • Developing a long pannable, sprite-animated Windows Store app

    I am creating my first Windows Store app in XAML, and I cannot seem to find a proper example for the requirements I have (I have spent a couple of days fiddling around, so I apologize if I missed something obvious). Basic idea of the app is to have a large scrollable canvas which would lazily start animating visible parts of the view as soon as user stops panning over a certain content (with some audio played also): My original idea was to use a StackPanel to add a bunch of custom controls, each of which would then animate itself once visible (with a short delay), but I have a couple of concerns: If the entire canvas is ~50 screen widths wide, is it feasible to load all content at the beginning, or do I need to plan doing some lazy loading during scrolling? For example, when I select a certain region in the Bing Travel app, it seems to lazily load tiles as I scroll it towards the end. Since content is stretched 100% vertically, and these animations are vectorized to be resolution independent, I am not sure if XAML (CompositionTarget) will be able to handle this, or I have to go for DirectX (MonoGame or C++) to get rid of flicker. Even better, is there an example for Windows 8 which uses a 100% vertically sized GridView with custom animated controls inside?

    This blog post is written in response to the T-SQL Tuesday hosted by Jes Schultz Borland. Earlier today, I was presenting a 45-minute session at the Community College about “The Beginning SQL Server Database”. One of the students asked me the following question. What is the difference between COUNT(DISTINCT) vs COUNT(ALL)? I found this question from the student very interesting. He seems to have read the documentation (Book Online) and was then asking me this question. I always carry laptop which has SQL Server installed. I quickly opened it and ran the following script. After looking at the result, I think it was clear to everybody. Here is the script: SELECT COUNT([Title]) Value FROM [AdventureWorks].[Person].[Contact] GO SELECT COUNT(ALL [Title]) ALLValue FROM [AdventureWorks].[Person].[Contact] GO SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT [Title]) DistinctValue FROM [AdventureWorks].[Person].[Contact] GO The above script will give me the following results. You can clearly notice from the result set that COUNT (ALL ColumnName) is the same as COUNT(ColumnName). The reality is that the “ALL” is actually  the default option and it needs not to be specified. The ALL keyword includes all the non-NULL values. I know this is very simple and may be it does not change how we work; however looking at the whole angle, I really enjoyed the question.   • Check_webinject plugin will not connect to https site using

    We're using Nagios to monitor some of our web sites. We have a script that uses the older plugin that we are trying to switch to using webinject.pl from cpan. When the script runs, it generates this error: LWP::Protocol::https::Socket: SSL connect attempt failed with unknown error error:1407741A:SSL routines:SSL23_GET_SERVER_HELLO:tlsv1 alert decode error at /usr/local/share/perl5/LWP/Protocol/http.pm line 51. It appears the web site does not support TLSv1 for https. If it matters, the site is a Cisco WebVPN. I've pointed the same script at a different site that does support TLSv1 and it seems to work fine. My web search is coming up empty.
