  • How to do an additional search on archive in rails if record not found, by extending model?

    - by Nick Gorbikoff
    Hello, I was wondering if somebody knows an elegant solution to the following: Suppose I have a table that holds orders, with a bunch of data. So I'm at 1M records, and searches begin to take time. So I want to speed it up by archiving some data that is more than 3 years old - saving it into a table called orders-archive, and then purging them from the orders table. So if we need to research something or customer wants to pull older information - they still can, but 99% of the lookups are done on the orders no older than a year and a half - so there is no reason to keep looking through older data all the time. These move & purge operations can be then croned to be done on a weekly basis. I already did some tests and I know that I will slash my search times by about 4 times. So far so good, right? However I was thinking about how to implement older archival lookups and the only reasonable thing I can think of is some sort of if-else If not found in orders, do a search in orders-archive. However - I have about 20 tables that I want to archive and god knows how many searches / finds are done through out the code, that I don't want to modify. So I was wondering if there is an elegant rails-way solution to this problem, by extending a model somehow? Has anyone dealt with similar case before? Thank you.

  • PHP Foreach statement issue. Multiple rows are returned

    - by Daniel Patilea
    I'm a PHP beginner and lately i've been having a problem with my source code. Here it is: <html> <head> <title> Bot </title> <link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="main.css" /> </head> <body> <form action="bot.php "method="post"> <lable>You:<input type="text" name="intrebare"></lable> <input type="submit" name="introdu" value="Send"> </form> </body> </html> <?php //error_reporting(E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE); mysql_connect("localhost", "root", "") or die(mysql_error()); mysql_select_db("robo") or die(mysql_error()); $intrebare=$_POST['intrebare']; $query = "SELECT * FROM dialog where intrebare like '%$intrebare%'"; $result = mysql_query($query) or die(mysql_error()); $row = mysql_fetch_array($result) or die(mysql_error()); ?> <div id="history"> <?php foreach($row as $rows){ echo "<b>The robot says: </b><br />"; echo $row['raspuns']; } ?> </div> It returns me the result x6 times. This problem appeared when I've made that foreach because I wanted the results to stuck on the page one by one after every sql querry. Can you please tell me what seems to be the problem? Thanks!

  • Get category count for a category where only the child categories have products

    - by Matthew
    I'm having problems getting a count for a category collection that will include products in any of that categories children. However I don't want just a full count I want to filter that count by a product collection (so only include products in the count that appear in the product collection)... Any suggestions? Code to get a filtered product collection (filtered by a multiselect attribute) /** @var $attribute Mage_Eav_Model_Entity_Attribute */ $valuesCollection = Mage::getResourceModel('eav/entity_attribute_option_collection') ->setAttributeFilter($attribute->getId()) ->addFieldToFilter('value', array ('like' => $make)) ->addFieldToSelect('option_id') ->setStoreFilter(0, false); $set = array(); foreach($valuesCollection as $option){ $set[] = $option->getData('option_id'); } $_productCollection = Mage::getResourceModel('catalog/product_collection') ->addAttributeToFilter('sparex_makemodel', array('in' => $set ) ) ->addAttributeToSelect('*'); I'm getting the child categories for a given category like thus.. $childCats = Mage::getModel('catalog/category')->load(2)->getChildrenCategories(); Now none of these categories have products assigned to them, however their children (or children of children) do. I want to produce a count for these categories that includes the child categories but only where the products are in my filtered collection.

  • How do I create a user history?

    - by ggfan
    I want to create a user history function that allows shows users what they done. ex: commented on an ad, posted an ad, voted on an ad, etc. How exactly do I do this? I was thinking about... in my site, when they log in it stores their user_id ($_SESSION['user_id']) so I guess whenever an user posts an ad(postad.php), comments(comment.php), I would just store in a database table "userhistory" what they did based on whenever or not their user_id was activate. When they comment, I store the user_id in the comment dbc table, so I'll also store it in the "userhistory" table. And then I would just queries all the rows in the dbc for the user to show it Any steps/improvements I can make? :)

  • Average over a timeframe with missing data

    - by BHare
    Assuming a table such as: UID Name Datetime Users 4 Room 4 2012-08-03 14:00:00 3 2 Room 2 2012-08-03 14:00:00 3 3 Room 3 2012-08-03 14:00:00 1 1 Room 1 2012-08-03 14:00:00 2 3 Room 3 2012-08-03 14:15:00 1 2 Room 2 2012-08-03 14:15:00 4 1 Room 1 2012-08-03 14:15:00 3 1 Room 1 2012-08-03 14:30:00 6 1 Room 1 2012-08-03 14:45:00 3 2 Room 2 2012-08-03 14:45:00 7 3 Room 3 2012-08-03 14:45:00 8 4 Room 4 2012-08-03 14:45:00 4 I wanted to get the average user count of each room (1,2,3,4) from the time 2PM to 3PM. The problem is that sometimes the room may not "check in" at the 15 minute interval time, so the assumption has to be made that the previous last known user count is still valid. For example the check-in's for 2012-08-03 14:15:00 room 4 never checked in, so it must be assumed that room 4 had 3 users at 2012-08-03 14:15:00 because that is what it had at 2012-08-03 14:00:00 This follows on through so that the average user count I am looking for is as follows: Room 1: (2 + 3 + 6 + 3) / 4 = 3.5 Room 2: (3 + 4 + 4 + 7) / 4 = 4.5 Room 3: (1 + 1 + 1 + 8) / 4 = 2.75 Room 4: (3 + 3 + 3 + 4) / 4 = 3.25 where # is the assumed number based on the previous known check-in. I am wondering if it's possible to so this with SQL alone? if not I am curious of a ingenious PHP solution that isn't just bruteforce math, as such as my quick inaccurate pseudo code: foreach ($rooms_id_array as $room_id) { $SQL = "SELECT * FROM `table` WHERE (`UID` == $room_id && `Datetime` >= 2012-08-03 14:00:00 && `Datetime` <= 2012-08-03 15:00:00)"; $result = query($SQL); if ( count($result) < 4 ) { // go through each date and find what is missing, and then go to previous date and use that instead } else { foreach ($result) $sum += $result; $avg = $sum / 4; } }

    - by TheStack
    Hello, I am trying to fix this pagination script. It seems when I click on the pagination links [1][2][3][4]or[5] , it doesn't work. It just shows the first page and when clicking on the next numbers nothing happens. I hoping someone can see something in the script that I can not see. The main page looks like this (pagination.php): <?php include_once('generate_pagination.php'); ?> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.1/jquery.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="jquery_pagination.js"></script> <div id="loading" ></div> <div id="content" data-page="1"></div> <ul id="pagination"> <?php generate_pagination() ?> </ul> <br /> <br /> <a href="#" class="category" id="marketing">Marketing</a> <a href="#" class="category" id="automotive">Automotive</a> <a href="#" class="category" id="sports">Sports</a> Then, generate_pagination.php: <?php function generate_pagination($sql) { include_once('config.php'); $per_page = 3; //Calculating no of pages $result = mysql_query($sql); $count = mysql_fetch_row($result); $pages = ceil($count[0]/$per_page); //Pagination Numbers for($i=1; $i<=$pages; $i++) { echo '<li class="page_numbers" id="'.$i.'">'.$i.'</li>'; } } $ids=$_GET['ids']; generate_pagination("SELECT COUNT(*) FROM explore WHERE category='$ids'"); ?> Here is the jquery file (jquery_pagination.js): $(document).ready(function(){ //Display Loading Image function Display_Load() { $("#loading").fadeIn(900,0); $("#loading").html("<img src='bigLoader.gif' />"); } //Hide Loading Image function Hide_Load() { $("#loading").fadeOut('slow'); }; //Default Starting Page Results $("#pagination li:first").css({'color' : '#FF0084'}).css({'border' : 'none'}); Display_Load(); $("#content").load("pagination_data.php?page=1", Hide_Load()); //Pagination Click $("#pagination li").click(function(){ Display_Load(); //CSS Styles $("#pagination li") .css({'border' : 'solid #dddddd 1px'}) .css({'color' : '#0063DC'}); $(this) .css({'color' : '#FF0084'}) .css({'border' : 'none'}); //Loading Data var pageNum = this.id; $("#content").load("pagination_data.php?page=" + pageNum, function(){ Hide_Load(); $(this).attr('data-page', pageNum); }); }); // Editing below. // Sort content Marketing $("a.category").click(function() { Display_Load(); var this_id = $(this).attr('id'); $.get("pagination.php", { category: this.id }, function(data){ //Load your results into the page var pageNum = $('#content').attr('data-page'); $("#pagination").load('generate_pagination.php?category=' + pageNum +'&ids='+ this_id ); $("#content").load("filter_marketing.php?page=" + pageNum +'&id='+ this_id, Hide_Load()); }); }); }); Lastly, filter_marketing.php (when a user clicks the filter link buttons): <?php include('config.php'); $per_page = 3; if(count($_GET)>0) { if($_GET['page']!=''){ $page=$_GET['page']; } if($_GET['id']!=''){ $id=$_GET['id']; } } $page= ($_GET['page']!='') ? $_GET['page']: false; $id= ($_GET['id']!='') ? $_GET['id']: false; $start = ($page-1)*$per_page; if($page && $id){ $sql = "SELECT * FROM explore WHERE category='$id' ORDER BY category LIMIT $start,$per_page"; } else { die('Error: missing parameters.   • server performance: multiple external connections and performance

    - by websiteguru
    I am creating a php script that requires the server to make several cURL requests per run. I'll be running this script through cron every 3 minutes. Im looking to maximize the amount of cURL requests I can make in a 24 hr period. What I am wondering is if it would be better from a performance standpoint to get a dedicated server, or several small shared hosting accounts. With the problem being number of external connections and not system resources I'm wondering which is the best approach.

  • Database normalization and duplicate values

    - by bretddog
    Consider a Parent / Child / GrandChild structure in a database table schema, or even a deeper hierarchy. These being in the same aggregate. One table DAYS keeps a single row per day, and has a "Date" field. This is the root table, or maybe a child of the root. No row can ever be deleted in this table. In this case, however complex my table schema looks like, however far away in the hierarchy any other table is, is there any reason why any other table would hold a Date value? Can't it instead just have a FK to the DAYS table. I obviously assume that the creation of these date fields happen not before such datefield exist in the DAYS table. I'm now thinking just about the date part to be relevant, not the time part. Not sure if all databases can store these individually. That's maybe relevant, but not really the focus of the question.

  • Best datastructure for this relationship...

    - by Travis
    I have a question about database 'style'. I need a method of storing user accounts. Some users "own" other user accounts (sub-accounts). However not all user accounts are owned, just some. Is it best to represent this using a table structure like so... TABLE accounts ( ID ownerID -> ID name ) ...even though there will be some NULL values in the ownerID column for accounts that do not have an owner. Or would it be stylistically preferable to have two tables, like so. TABLE accounts ( ID name ) TABLE ownedAccounts ( accountID -> accounts(ID) ownerID -> accounts(ID) ) Thanks for the advice.

  • Select 2 Rows from Table when COUNT of another table

    - by Marcus
    Here is the code that I currently have: SELECT `A`.* FROM `A` LEFT JOIN `B` ON `A`.`A_id` = `B`.`value_1` WHERE `B`.`value_2` IS NULL AND `B`.`userid` IS NULL ORDER BY RAND() LIMIT 2 What it currently is supposed to do is select 2 rows from A when the 2 rows A_id being selected are not in value_1 or value_2 in B. And the rows in B are specific to individual users with userid. What I need to do is make it also so that also checks if there are already N rows in B matching a A_id (either in value_1, or value_2) and userid, and if there are more than N rows, it doesn't select the A row.

  • Select multi-select form from array

    - by Budove
    Here's the issue. I have a database column called pymnt_meth_pref, which contains a comma separated string of payment methods chosen from a multiselect form. <td>Payment Methods Used:<br /> <input type="checkbox" name="pyment_meth_pref[]" value="Cash">I can pay with cash.<br /> <input type="checkbox" name="pyment_meth_pref[]" value="Check">I can pay by check.<br /> <input type="checkbox" name="pyment_meth_pref[]" value="Credit Card">I can pay by credit card.<br /> <input type="checkbox" name="pyment_meth_pref[]" value="Paypal">I can pay with Paypal.<br /> </td> This array is posted to a variable and turned into a comma separated string if (isset($_POST['pyment_meth_pref'])) $pymntmethpref = implode(", ", $_POST['pyment_meth_pref']); if (isset($_POST['pyment_meth_acc'])) $pymntmethacc = implode(", ", $_POST['pyment_meth_acc']); This is then inserted into the database as a comma separated string. What I would like to do, is take this string and apply the values to the original form when the user goes back to the form as 'pre-selected' checkboxes, indicated that the user has already selected those values previously, and keeping those values in the database if they choose to edit any other information in the form. I'm assuming this would need to be done with javascript but if there is a way to do it with PHP I'd rather do it that way.

  • join select from multiple row values?

    - by user1869132
    Two tables 1) product -------------------- id | Name | price 1 | p1 | 10 2 | p2 | 20 3 | p3 | 30 2) product_attributes: --------------------------------------------------- id | product_id | attribute_name | attribute_value --------------------------------------------------- 1 | 1 | size | 10 2 | 1 | colour | red 3 | 2 | size | 20 I need to join these two tables. In the where clause I need to match both the two rows attribute values. Is it possible to get the result based on two rows value. Here if size=10 and colour=red. Output should be 1 | p1 | 10 It could be greatly helpful to get a query for this.

  • Connecting PHP Server and Android?

    - by user3439988
    I am trying to create a simple test application to transfer data back and forth between my server and Android device. The following are the things I aim for: Ability to upload data and files to the server. To be able to view my files on the server. To be able to download the files from the server to my android device. Ability of the server to send me updates on the files or notifications to my phone. I need a safe and secure way to do these things. I have tried these: HTTPPost requests onto the server and echoing the output accordingly and capturing the HTTPresponse and parsing it. For files I have tried using MultipartEntity, but I think that has been deprecated.
