I have a table like this : Name Mar1 Mar2 Mar3 Total xxx 80 80 80 240 yyy 60 70 50 180 aaa 85 65 75 225 I wanted to find the rank of the student based on total. I using SQL Compact 3.5 . As we have rank() function in sql server do we have something with which we can find the students rank??? When I used "select Total,rank() over (order by total desc) i1 from stmarks " it's giving error as " Major Error 0x80040E14, Minor Error 25501 select Total,rank() over (order by total desc) i1 from stmarks There was an error parsing the query. [ Token line number = 1,Token line offset = 21,Token in error = over ] " Do Sql Compact support rank() over or is there any another way???

modx revo snippet variable in query

I noticed something weird when using a query in a snippet. When I have a query like this: $sql = 'SELECT * FROM table WHERE colomn = ' . $variable; And I echo $sql, the query reads: SELECT * FROM table WHERE colomn = <code class="php plain">2</code> .. wich will result in an error because the sql is no longer valid. So for now I use strip_tags to remove the code tag, but I find it not a very clean method. I couldnt find anything about this, so maybe someone can shed some light on this for me?

Planning a competition

I need to produce the schedule of a sport-event. There are 30 teams. Each team has to play 8 matches. This means that it is not possible for each team to compete again all other teams, but I need to avoid that two team compete more than once against each other. My idea was to generate all possible matches (for 30 teams: (30*29)/2 = 435 matches) and select from this list 120 matches (8 match for each team: 8 * 30 / 2 = 120 matches). This is where I'm having a hard time: how can I select these 120 matches? I tried some simple solutions (take first match of the list, then the last, and so on) but they don't seem to work with 30 teams. I also tried to generate all possible match combination and find which one is working but with 30 team, this is too much calculation time. Is there an existing algorithm that I could implement?

MySQL query : all records of one table plus count of another table

Hello Guys! I have 2 tables: User and Picture. The Picture table has the key of the user. So basically each user can have multiple pictures, and each picture belongs to one user. Now, I am trying to make the following query: I want to select all the user info plus the total number of pictures that he has (even if it's 0). How can I do that? Probably it sounds quite simple, but I am trying and trying and can't seem to find the right query. The only thing I could select is this info, but only for users that have at least 1 picture, meaning that the Pictures table has at least one record for that key... But I also wanna consider the users that don't have any. Any idea? Thanks!

BULK INSERT from one table to another all on the server

I have to copy a bunch of data from one database table into another. I can't use SELECT ... INTO because one of the columns is an identity column. Also, I have some changes to make to the schema. I was able to use the export data wizard to create an SSIS package, which I then edited in Visual Studio 2005 to make the changes desired and whatnot. It's certainly faster than an INSERT INTO, but it seems silly to me to download the data to a different computer just to upload it back again. (Assuming that I am correct that that's what the SSIS package is doing). Is there an equivalent to BULK INSERT that runs directly on the server, allows keeping identity values, and pulls data from a table? (as far as I can tell, BULK INSERT can only pull data from a file) Edit: I do know about IDENTITY_INSERT, but because there is a fair amount of data involved, INSERT INTO ... SELECT is kinda of slow. SSIS/BULK INSERT dumps the data into the table without regards to indexes and logging and whatnot, so it's faster. (Of course creating the clustered index on the table once it's populated is not fast, but it's still faster than the INSERT INTO...SELECT that I tried in my first attempt) Edit 2: The schema changes include (but are not limited to) the following: 1. Splitting one table into two new tables. In the future each will have its own IDENTITY column, but for the migration I think it will be simplest to use the identity from the original table as the identity for the both new tables. Once the migration is over one of the tables will have a one-to-many relationship to the other. 2. Moving columns from one table to another. 3. Deleting some cross reference tables that only cross referenced 1-to-1. Instead the reference will be a foreign key in one of the two tables. 4. Some new columns will be created with default values. 5. Some tables aren’t changing at all, but I have to copy them over due to the "put it all in a new DB" request.

Sql Server Where Case Then Is Null Else Is Not Null

I have a procedure which receive a bit variable called @FL_FINALIZADA. If it is null or false I want to restrict my select to show only the rows that contain null DT_FINALIZACAO values. Otherwise I want to show the rows containing not null DT_FINALIZACAO values. Something like this: SELECT * FROM ... WHERE ... AND (OPE.DT_FINALIZACAO = CASE WHEN (@FL_FINALIZADA <> 1) THEN NULL END OR OPE.DT_FINALIZACAO IS NOT NULL) In this case I receive the message: None of the result expressions in a CASE specification can be NULL. I have the following problem: I am trying to retreive a sum value based on one condition. Problem is that I can't join the conditional value since my tables aren't joined. When I try to do a JPA query like this: "SELECT p FROM Participant p WHERE p.party.id = :partyKey AND p.name=:participantName" I get the following error Caused by: org.datanucleus.store.appengine.FatalNucleusUserException: SELECT FROM Participant p WHERE p.party.id = :partyKey AND p.name=:participantName: Can only reference properties of a sub-object if the sub-object is embedded. I gave the key of the Party object as a parameter to the "partyKey" named parameter. The model is like this: Party has multiple Participants. I want to query a participant based on the party and the name of the participant. I just can't figure out how to filter using the party. What options do I have?

How to merge on project / multiple files in VSS?

I have VSS 6.0. I have branched my project so that I can do parallel development. I have 100s of files in folder/subfolders. I have changed some 10-20 files in multiple folders in ver 2 branch. Now I want to merge changes done in ver 2 to ver 1 branch. When I select the project merge branches option is not enabled. neither is it enabled when I select multiple files inside a folder. It's only enabled when one file is selected. Can I not merge on folder / multiple files in VSS 6.0. My thinking was when I do merge on project, VSS would pop up file names whenever there's a conflict (i.e files that are changed)

DBCC CHECKDB WITH DATA_PURITY gives out of range error

Hi there, I have restore a SQL Server 2000 database onto SQL Server 2005 and then run DBCC CHECKDB WITH DATA_PURITY and I get this error: Msg 2570, Level 16, State 3, Line 2 Page (1:19558), slot 13 in object ID 181575685, index ID 1, partition ID 293374720802816, alloc unit ID 11899744092160 (type "In-row data"). Column "NumberOfShares" value is out of range for data type "numeric". Update column to a legal value. The column NumberOfShares is a numeric (19,6) data type. If I run the following select max (NumberOfShares) from AUDIT_Table select min (NumberOfShares) from AUDIT_Table I get: 22678647.839110 -1845953000.000000 These values are inside the bounds of a numeric (19,6) so I'm not sure why the DBCC check fails. Any ideas to find out why it fails? Do I need to use DBCC PAGE? How would you troubleshoot this? Thanks, Mark.

how to optimize an oracle query that has to_char in where clause for date

I have a table that contains about 49403459 records. I want to query the table on a date range. say 04/10/2010 to 04/10/2010. However, the dates are stored in the table as format 10-APR-10 10.15.06.000000 AM (time stamp). As a result. When I do: SELECT bunch,of,stuff,create_date FROM myTable WHERE TO_CHAR (create_date,'MM/DD/YYYY)' >= '04/10/2010' AND TO_CHAR (create_date, 'MM/DD/YYYY' <= '04/10/2010' I get 529 rows but in 255.59 seconds! which is because I guess I am doing to_char on EACH record. However, When I do SELECT bunch,of,stuff,create_date FROM myTable WHERE create_date >= to_date('04/10/2010','MM/DD/YYYY') AND create_date <= to_date('04/10/2010','MM/DD/YYYY') then I get 0 results in 0.14 seconds. How can I make this query fast and still get valid (529) results?? At this point I can not change indexes. Right now I think index is created on create_date column

Is this a valid benefit of using embedded SQL over stored procedures?

Here's an argument for SPs that I haven't heard. Flamers, be gentle with the down tick, Since there is overhead associated with each trip to the database server, I would suggest that a POSSIBLE reason for placing your SQL in SPs over embedded code is that you are more insulated to change without taking a performance hit. For example. Let's say you need to perform Query A that returns a scalar integer. Then, later, the requirements change and you decide that it the results of the scalar is x that then, and only then, you need to perform another query. If you performed the first query in a SP, you could easily check the result of the first query and conditionally execute the 2nd SQL in the same SP.
