• How to prune data set by frequency to conform to paper's description

  The MovieLens data set provides a table with columns: userid | movieid | tag | timestamp I have trouble reproducing the way they pruned the MovieLens data set used in: Tag Informed Collaborative Filtering, by Zhen, Li and Young In 4.1 Data Set of the above paper, it writes "For the tagging information, we only keep those tags which are added on at least 3 distinct movies. As for the users, we only keep those users who used at least 3 distinct tags in their tagging history. For movies, we only keep those movies that are annotated by at least 3 distinct tags." I tried to query the database: select TMP.userid, count(*) as tagnum from (select distinct T.userid as userid, T.tag as tag from tags T) AS TMP group by TMP.userid having tagnum >= 3; I got a list of 1760 users who labeled 3 distinct tags. However, some of the tags are not added on at least 3 distinct movies. Any help is appreciated.

• MySQL Conventions?

  Hi There, I just moved my website to a new server (Shared to VPS) I expected errors, and the only error that is really puzzling me is this SQL statement. echo mysql_query("SELECT COUNT(*) FROM users_online_now") This returns nothing! And if I try the mysql_num_rows, it returns mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource.. If I query another table though eg: echo mysql_query("SELECT COUNT(*) FROM users") It works fine. I'm guessing it's something to do with the naming of the table? It worked fine on my previous host, is there some setting I should modify?

• Drupal email users

  I'm using Drupal 6.16: When a user creates an account on my site I have them select a category (ie children, youth, adult, etc). This is done with the select list box using the content_profile module. I have a content type that posts an announcement. In this content type is a check box that says 'email group'. Right now it does nothing, but what I would like for it to do is e-mail all the users that are associated with the group they chose when signing up for their account. If this will require extra code please be specific as I am not a strong php programmer. Thanks for the help!! msindle

  At the moment I have two tables, products and options. Products contains id title description Options contains id product_id sku title Sample data may be: Products id: 1 title: 'test' description: 'my description' Options id: 1 product_id: 1 sku: 1001 title: 'red' id: 2 product_id: 1 sku: 1002 title: 'blue' I need to display each item, with each different option. At the moment, I select the rows in products and iterate through them, and for each one select the appropriate rows from options. I then create an array, similar to: [product_title] = 'test'; [description] = 'my description'; [options][] = 1, 1001, 'red'; [options][] = 2, 1002, 'blue'; Is there a better way to do this with just sql (I'm using codeigniter, and would ideally like to use the Active Record class)?

• Can't get values from Sqlite DB using query

  I used sqlite to populate a DB with some Tables in it. I made a function at another javascript page that executes the database & selects some values from the table. • How can I use linq to build an object from 1 row of data?

  Hi All, I have a quick linq question. I have a stored proc that should return one row of data. I would like to use a lambda to build an object. Here's what I'm currently doing which works, but I know I should be able to use First instead of Select except I can't seem to get the syntax correct. Can anyone straighten me out here? • delphi "Invalid use of keyword" in TQuery

  I'm trying to populate a TDBGrid with the results of the following TQuery against the file Journal.db: select * from Journal where Journal.where = "RainPump" I've tried both Journal."Where" and Journal.[Where] to no avail. I've also tried: select Journal.[Where] as "Location" - with the same result. Journal.db is a file created by a third party and I am unable to change the field names. The problem is that the field I'm interested in is called 'where' and understandably causes the above error. How do I reference this field without causing the BDE (presumably) to explode?

  Hello :) I've got a little problem with a query which I create in the Visual Studio Designer. I need a query with a lot of 'OR'-clauses for the same column. I found the operator 'IN', but I don't know how to use that in the Visual Studio Designer: Example IN: SELECT EmployeeID, FirstName, LastName, HireDate, City FROM Employees WHERE City IN ('Seattle', 'Tacoma', 'Redmond') I tried to do it in this way: SELECT [MachineryId], [ConstructionSiteId], [DateTime], [Latitude], [Longitude], [HoursCounter] FROM [PositionData] WHERE [MachineryID] IN @MachineryIDs But this doesn't work. • UINavigationController crashes after pushing 3 views onto stack

  I have a navigation controller, which has the following structure: Category Item Item Detail I can choose a category, and then choose an item to see its details. I can do this twice, i.e. go Back to the list of items and select another item. If i try this a third time, the app crashes, I get objc_msgSend in stack but thats all. But, instead of choosing another item, i go to the list of categories, and choose a different category, I can select two items in that category, before it crashes also. What would be causing this?   Problem statement: Given: TFS as Source Control Heavy desktop client application with tons of legacy code with bad or almost absent architecture design. Clients constantly requiring new features with sound quality, fast delivery and constantly complaining on user unfriendly UI. Problem: Application undoubtedly requires deep refactoring. This process inevitably makes application unstable and dedicated stabilization phase is needed. We've tried: Refactoring in master with periodical merges from master (MB) to feature branch (FB). (my mistake) Result: Many unstable branches. What we are advised: Create additional branch for refactoring (RB) periodically synchronizing it with MB via merge from MB to RB. After RB is stabilized we substitute master with RB and create new branch for further refactoring. This is the plan. But here I expect the real hell of merging MB to RB after merging any FB to MB. The main advantage: Stable master most of the time. Are there any better alternatives to the procees?

  Hi, this is what I want to achieve: 4 tables are involved: Players with PlayerID as PK, Competitions with CompetID as PK Results with ResultID as PK and CompetID as FK And the 4th table: PlayerResultts with ResultID + PlayerID as PK and CompetID as new column I created. Competitions, results and PlayerResults are already populated and quite large (300000 PlayerResults so far). In order to populate the PlayerResults.CompetID column, I try a Update ... (Select....) request but I'm not aware of the right syntax and it fails. Here is my feeble attempt: update PlayerResults set competid = (select distinct(r.competid) from results r, playerresults p where r.resultID = p.resultid) Error is (of course): "Msg 512, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Subquery returned more than 1 value. This is not permitted when the subquery follows =, !=, <, <= , , = or when the subquery is used as an expression." Can someone put me in the right direction? TIA

The issue is that when I call users.Except(matches) The matching users are not being excluded at all! I am expecting 6 users ut "excludes" contains all 8 users instead. Since all I'm doing in GetMatchingUsers(IEnumerable users) is taking the IEnumerable and just returning the IUsers whose ID's match( 2 IUsers in this case), my understanding is that by default "Except" will use reference equality for comparing the objects to be excluded. Is this not how "Except" behaves? What is even more interesting is that if I materialize the objects using .ToList() and then get the matching users, and call "Except", everything works as expected! Like so: IEnumerable users = doc.Element("Users").Elements("User").Select (u = new User { ID = (int)u.Attribute("id"), Name = (string)u.Attribute("name") } ).OfType().ToList(); //explicity materializing all objects by calling ToList() var matches = User.GetMatchingUsers(users); var excludes = users.Except(matches); // excludes now contains 6 users as expected I don't see why I should need to materialize objects for calling "Except" given that its defined on IEnumerable? Any suggesstions / insights would be much appreciated.

  Hello: I have a collection of physical parameters associated with different items. For example: Item, p1, p2, p3 a, 1, 2, 3 b, 4, 5, 6 [...] where px stands for parameter x. I could go ahead and store the database exactly as presented; the schema would be CREATE TABLE t1 (item TEXT PRIMARY KEY, p1 FLOAT, p2 FLOAT, p3 FLOAT); I could retrieve the parameter p1 for all the items with the statement: SELECT p1 FROM t1; A second alternative is to have an schema like: CREATE TABLE t1 (id INT PRIMARY KEY, item TEXT, par TEXT, val FLOAT) This seems much simpler if you have many parameters (as I do). However, the parameter retrieval seems very awkward: SELECT val FROM t1 WHERE par == 'p1' What do you advice? Should go for the "pivoted" (first) version or the id, par, val (second) version?   My brain seems to be mush right now! I am using LINQ to Entity, and I need to get some data from one table that does NOT exist in another table. For example: I need the groupID, groupname and groupnumber from TABLE A where they do not exist in TABLE B. The groupID will exist in TABLE B, along with other relevant information. The tables do not have any relationship. In SQL it would be quite simply (there is a more elegant and efficient solution, but I want to paint a picture of what I need) SELECT GroupID, GroupName, GroupNumber, FROM TableA WHERE GroupID NOT IN (SELECT GroupID FROM TableB) Is there an easy/elegant way to do this? Right now I have a bunch of queries hitting the db, then comparing, etc. It's pretty messy. Thanks.

• Extra < using auto complete in Sublime Text 2

  I installed the All Autocomplete package in my Sublime Text 2 editor and everything works fine except when I type "<div" or something similar, the auto-complete box pops up, I select the one I want and hit enter and it adds "<<div></div>" with an extra "<" in the front of my tag. I have to go back and delete the extra "<" every time...(!) I can't seem to resolve this issue. If I use the command CTRL+Space, the box pops up and I can select the tag I want and it does not include the extra tag but that messes with my flow. Has anyone out there experienced this? Thanks for your help!
