• Make DLL dependent to other DLLs (Visual Studio IDE)

  I'm having an inconsistency when compiling a DLL (let's call it x.dll) by calling cl.exe obj1.obj obj2.obj ... lib1.lib lib2.lib ... /link /out:x.dll /dll /debug and When using the IDE (which calls link directly, I believe). Let's say lib1.lib is an import library for lib1.dll. Opening the DLL generated by calling cl.exe in the depency walker shows it depends on lib1.dll. However, when using the IDE, the generated program is smaller and does not depend on lib1.dll. This IDE-generated image makes the program that uses x.dll crash sometimes. The question is: how do I get the correct behaviour from the IDE?

• MacPorts: violation of the ports-filesystem hierarchy in the destroot phase

  I'm in the process of developing a Portfile for my application and I'm running into problems during the destroot phase. According to the MacPorts guide, the destroot phase executes the following command: make install DESTDIR=${destroot} I think I may be misunderstanding how this is supposed to work in the Makefile. My application is very simple and the install rule only needs to copy a couple of directories to the DESTDIR so it is specified as follows: install: cp -R bin $(DESTDIR)/bin cp -R lib $(DESTDIR)/lib cp -R cfg $(DESTDIR)/cfg However, when I try to do a MacPort installation of my application, I get the following warnings: ---> Staging test into destroot Warning: violation by /bin Warning: violation by /lib Warning: violation by /cfg Warning: test violates the layout of the ports-filesystems! How do I fix this? Am I misunderstanding how the DESTDIR variable is used in the install rule or missing something altogether?

• What is the most elegant way to deal with sourced files that themselves source (relative) source fil

  I am editing a file like /path/to/file.txt with vim, hence the current directory is /path/to. Now, I have a directory /other/path/to/vim/files that contains sourceA.vim. Also, there is a sourceB.vim file in /other/path/to/vim/files/lib/sourceB.vim In sourceA.vim, I want to source sourceB.vim, so I put a so lib/sourceB.vim into it. Now, in my file.txt, I do a :so /other/path/to/vim/files/sourceA.vim which fails, because the sourcing system is obviously not prepared for relative path names along with sourcing from another directory. In order to fix this, I put a execute "so " . expand("<sfile>:p:h") . "/lib/sourceB.vim" into sourceA.vim which does what I want. However, I find the solution a bit clumsy and was wondering if there is a more elegant solution to it. I cannot put the sourceA.vim nor sourceB.vim into vim's plugin folder.

  Hi, I need to write some data in several database. I choose sqlapi.com I have made it for mysql and mssql. Now I have Problem with Oracle database. I have installed server and client on Ubuntu. In browser it works, but sqlapi says: libnnz10.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory DBMS API Library 'libclntsh.so' loading fails This library is a part of DBMS client installation, not SQLAPI++ Make sure DBMS client is installed and this required library is available for dynamic loading Linux/Unix: 1) The directories in the user's LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable 2) The list of libraries cached in /etc/ld.so.cache 3) /usr/lib, followed by /lib There are both of these files depp inside /usr/lib. I have tried a lot of ways to say eclipse path to this folder, but nothing works. Thanks for help.

• qmake library reordering

  I put this into a qmake file: QTPLUGIN += component LIBS += -L../lib -lmodule -lcomponent -lnetworking But qmake reorders the libraries behind my back: g++ -m64 -Wl,-O1,--sort-common,--as-needed,-z,relro -o testb .obj/constants.o .obj/main.o .obj/qrc_application.o -L/usr/lib -L../lib -lmodule -lnetworking -lcomponent -lQtGui -lQtNetwork -lQtCore -lpthread Probably because component is a static plugin. But it has a static dependency on the networking library and hence the reordering causes a link error. It is a static dependency and hence is ok in my opinion. How to work around this? I'm using qt 4.8.1.

  Using import aliasing in a single class, we can reference class library namespaces by assigning our own custom alias like this: ' VB Imports Db = Company.Lib.Data.Objects // C# using Db = Company.Lib.Data.Objects; And then we are able to reference the classes inside of Company.Lib.Data.Objects by using the Db alias that we assigned. Is it possible to do this at the global level so that the alias is applied to the entire solution instead of the given file? Currently, we are working with web applications, so I was hoping we could add something to web.config, but I am also interested in whether or not this is possible with windows forms, console apps, and/or class libraries.

  We have a debate going on . a. The "standard" way of assembling a web app. Create a WAR with all our app artifacts and all other components like hibernate and memcached etc are deployed in the tomcat/shared/lib area. b. Create a humongous war with everything included and nothing in tomcat/shared/lib. Pros for a - It keeps things modular and the war is small. Cons for a - dependency on shared/lib has to be managed especially by the deployment process. Pros for b - All dependencies are controlled by the build process removing any room for error. Cons for b - War is really, really big. If you are deploying over a network to a huge farm, then it might have an impact. want to see what thoughts others might have about this.

  Hi, I run a LVM setup on a raid1 created by mdadm. md2 is based on sda6 (major:minor 8:6) and sdb6 (8:22). md2 is partition 9:2. The VG on top of md2 has 4 LVs, var, home, usr, tmp. First the problem: While booting it seems as if the device mapper takes the wrong partition for the mapping! • Troubleshoot Perl module installation on Mac OS X

  I'm trying to install the Perl module Set::IntervalTree on Mac OS X. I recently installed it today on an Ubuntu box with no problem. I simply started cpan, entered install Set:IntervalTree, and it all worked out. However, the installation failed on Mac OS X--it spits out a huge list of compiler errors (below). How would I troubleshoot this. • Failed to load Cairo

  We're running a Ubuntu Server VM with OpenCPU (that's an API for R). Unfortunately we're unable to get the Cairo R package to play, the error message (from within R) is as follows: unable to load shared object '/usr/lib/R/library/grDevices/libs//cairo.so': /usr/local/lib/libgmodule-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol: g_rec_mutex_lock 2: In png() : failed to load cairo DLL We've tried purging and reinstalling cairo and libcairo and we both tried building the Cairo R package from source as well as using a precompiled version from Michael Rutter's ppas (all seems to work without errors). Unfortunately none of us are real Ubuntu natives and thus we probably did some pretty amateur debugging. Any push in the right direction would be very appreciated. For example, we couldn't figure out how to reinstall whatever libgmodule refers to.

• Installing UCMA 3.0 and Creating a Communications Server "14"Trusted Application Pool

  A lot of setup and administration tasks have gotten a lot easier in Communications Server 14; one of them is building an application server to develop and run your UCMA 3.0 applications on. In this post, Ill walk you through installing the UCMA 3.0 Core SDK and creating a Trusted Application Pool on the server, thus adding it to the Communications Server 14 topology and allowing you to host and run UCMA 3.0 applications on it. Note: These instructions will change slightly as the bits get updated for the eventual Beta release I will update this post as soon as I get a chance to run this setup on a more recent build. Im doing the install on a simple Communications Server 14 topology consisting of the following Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V images: DC Domain Controller ExchangeUM Exchange Server 2010 CS-SE Microsoft Communications Server 2010 Standard Edition TS Development machine Ill walk through setting up UCMA 3.0 on the TS VM, which is a fully patched Windows Server 2008 R2 machine that is joined to the Fabrikam domain.   Im also running Visual Studio 2010 on this VM because I intend to use it as a development machine.  In a future post, Ill walk through installing just the UCMA 3.0 run time to build a true production UCMA application server. Im making a couple of assumptions here: You have an existing CS 2010 site and cluster configured(well look at this in a future post) Youre starting with a fully patched Windows Server 2008 R2 machine The machine is joined to your domain This walkthrough was done in my Fabrikam VM environment but can easily be modified for your own environment. Installing the UCMA 3.0 SDK Lets start by installing the UCMA 3.0 SDK.  Run UcmaSdkWebDownload.msi to kick off the SDK installer package extract process. The installed package is extracted to C: >> Program Files >> Microsoft UCMA 3.0 >> SDK Installer Package.  Browse there and run setup.exe. Click Install to install the UCMA 3.0 Core SDK and Workflow SDK. Install Communications Server Core Components UCMA 3.0 introduces a new concept called Auto-provisioning, which is most easily explained from the developer point of view.  Remember what your app.config looked it in UCMA 2.0?  You had to store the application GRUU, the trusted contact SIP Uri, the port for your application, and the name of the certificate authority. Thats all gone with auto-provisioning all you need in your app.config is your ApplicationId, e.g.: urn:application:MyApplication. How does CS 2010 do this? All of the applications configuration data is associated with the applications id.  UCMA also queries a replicated copy of the Central Management Database to retrieve the applications configuration data and also the configuration data for any endpoints. In this step, well run Bootstrapper.exe to install the CS Core components, this checked for the following components and installs them if they are not already present: VcRedist Sqlexpress Sqlnativeclient Sqlbackcompat Ucmaredist OcsCore.msi Open a command window at C: >> Program Files >> Microsoft Communications Server 2010 >> Deployment and run the following command: Bootstrapper.exe /BootstrapReplica /MinCache /SourceDirectory:"%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft UCMA 3.0\SDK Installer Package\Prereq\BootstrapperCache" Create a New Trusted Application Pool The next step is to create a new trusted application pool for the new server.  Fire up the Communications Server Management Shell from Start >> Microsoft Communications Server 2010 >> Communications Server Management Shell and enter the following PowerShell command: New-CsTrustedApplicationPool -Identity <FQDN of Server> -Registrar <FQDN of CS Server> -Site <CS Site Name> Verify that the new server was added to the CS topology by running the following PowerShell command: (Get-CsTopology -AsXml).ToString() > Topology.xml This created a file called Topology.xml in the directory that you ran the command from.  Open the file and find the Clusters section and look for a node for the new server. The Cluster Fqdn is the name of your server, and note the name of the Site that this Cluster is a part of. <Cluster Fqdn="appsrv.fabrikam.com" RequiresReplication="true" RequiresSetup="true"> <ClusterId SiteId="UcMarketing2" Number="5" /> <Machine OrdinalInCluster="1" Fqdn="appsrv.fabrikam.com"> <NetInterface InterfaceSide="Primary" InterfaceNumber="1" IPAddress="0.0.0.0" /> </Machine> </Cluster> Configure CS Management Store Replication At this point, we have the CS Core components installed and the server configured as a trusted application pool.  We now need to set up replication so that the Central Management Store replicates down to the new server. From the Communications Server Management Shell, run the following PowerShell command to enable the Replica service on the new server: Enable-CSReplica The Replica service is enabled, but hasn't done anything yet. This can be verified by running the following PowerShell command to check the replication status for the various servers in the topology: Get-CSManagementStoreReplicationStatus You can see in the screenshot below that the UpToDate property of the new server is still False Run the following PowerShell command to force the replication to run: Invoke-CSManagementStoreReplicationStatus Run Get-CSManagementStoreReplicationStatus again to verify that the new service is now up to date Request and Set a New Certificate The last step in the process is to request a new certificate from the certificate authority on the domain and assign it to the new server. From the Communications Server Management Shell, run the following PowerShell command to request a new certificate: Request-CSCertificate -Action new -Type default -CA <Domain Controller FQDN>\<Certificate Authority> Setting the -Verbose switch on the cmdlet creates an Xml file with its output.   This question already has an answer here: Running programs in the background from terminal 4 answers How do I run a program in the background of a shell, with the ability to close the shell while leaving the program running which should not disturb the window i am working on? Lets say my UI is having problems or for some reason, I need to boot up a program from the terminal window. The program should not disturb my window in which i am working on but it should be opened from the command line and i should be able to get access to it using the normal shortcut ALT+TAB. Even the command line should exit after running the command I tried this .... "gedit file-name & exit" this is working fine but the gedit file is opening in the foreground (let i be working on some application like mozilla. After running the command ..... gedit file is coming upwards and i have to flip to mozilla again but the command should just open the gedit file not shifting to gedit application from the mozilla window)

It's not my first migration, but my first migration having connection issues with mysql. Migration went successfully, I have the same Contao version running (it's more or less just copy / paste). For the database behind, I did: apt-get install mysql-server phpmyadmin I set a root password and added a user for the CMS which has enough rights on its own database (and only its database) for doing the stuff it has to do. Data import via phpmyadmin worked just fine. I can access the backend of the CMS (which needs to deal with the database already). This is the first time I'm running into this problem, and I'm not very experienced with this kind of mysql 'administration'. Is this one of those misterious 'use-tcp-connection-instead-of-socket-stuff-because-there-are-problems-on-virtualized-machines-with-sockets'-problem?   I have Ubuntu 11.10 with Gnome 3 (no Unity), gnome-screen-saver has been removed and replaced with xscreensaver. The screensaver stuff all works fine -- no complaints there. When I close my laptop lid, even for a second, the screen locks (and the dialog box asking for my password is xscreensaver's). I'd like for this not to happen...
