    We installed Service Pack 3 for SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition (64-bit). In the Add or Remove Programs menu we have the following entries under Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (64-bit): Service Pack 3 for SQL Server Integration Services 64-bit) ENU (KB955706) Service Pack 3 for SQL Server Notification Services 2005 (64-bit) ENU (KB955706) Service Pack 3 for SQL Server Database Services 2005 (64-bit) ENU (KB955706) Service Pack 3 for SQL Server Tools and Workstation Components 2005 (64-bit) ENU (KB955706) But when I run the following query on the server: select @@version I get this result: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.4035.00 (X64) Nov 24 2008 16:17:31 Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Standard Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 2) Why does it not display that it is running Service Pack 3?

  • Optimizing Disk I/O & RAID on Windows SQL Server 2005

    I've been monitoring our SQL server for a while, and have noticed that I/O hits 100% every so often using Task Manager and Perfmon. I have normally been able to correlate this spike with SUSPENDED processes in SQL Server Management when I execute "exec sp_who2". The RAID controller is controlled by LSI MegaRAID Storage Manager. We have the following setup: System Drive (Windows) on RAID 1 with two 280GB drives SQL is on a RAID 10 (2 mirroed drives of 280GB in two different spans) This is a database that is hammered during the day, but is pretty inactive at night. The DB size is currently about 13GB, and is used by approximately 200 (and growing) users a day. I have a couple of ideas I'm toying around with: Checking for Indexes & reindexing some tables Adding an additional RAID 1 (with 2 new, smaller, HDs) and moving the SQL's Log Data File (LDF) onto the new RAID. For #2, my question is this: Would we really be increasing disk performance (IO) by moving data off of the RAID 10 onto a RAID 1? RAID 10 obviously has better performance than RAID 1. Furthermore, SQL must write to the transaction logs before writing to the database. But on the flip side, we'll be reducing both the size of the disks as well as the amount of data written to the RAID 10, which is where all of the "meat" is - thereby increasing that RAID's performance for read requests. Is there any way to find out what our current limiting factor is? (The drives vs. the RAID Controller)? If the limiting factor is the drives, then maybe adding the additional RAID 1 makes sense. But if the limiting factor is the Controller itself, then I think we're approaching this thing wrong. Finally, are we just wasting our time? Should we instead be focusing our efforts towards #1 (reindexing tables, reducing network latency where possible, etc...)?

    Hello, I'm trying to track the error thrown by SQL Server 2005. The problem is SQL Server reports it in my native language so it's hard for me to google it. I think that the core issue would be avialable in English in SQL Server LOGS. I'm running SQL Server Management Studio Express, going to "Management" node, and then SQL Server Logs. I can see the list of logs but I cannot enter them, the only available option in context menu is Refresh. Could you help me to show the contents of those logs?

  • cannot get mssql working with sql server 2005

    I'm a MySQL/Apache user, trying my hand with IIS and SQL server, so please, if this is a stupid question have patience. I'm using IIS version 7.5. PHP version 5.3.13 and SQL server 2005 IIS is running on port 90, not sure if that will make a difference or not. I know my sql server is running because I can explore/connect to it in Server management studio. I know php is configured properly, because //localhost:90/phpinfo.php works fine. I updated the php_msql.dll extension in phpinfo to: extension=ext/php_msql.dll EDIT- However, when I run phpinfo() under the "configure command" row, this is present: --without-mssql I found/downloaded the ntwdblib.dll and placed it in both sys32 and php root. All these things were supposed to fix the issue, and they haven't. This is the code I'm using, straight from php.net: <?php // Server in the this format: <computer>\<instance name> or // <server>,<port> when using a non default port number $server = 'localhost'; // Connect to MSSQL $link = mssql_connect($server, 'uname', 'pwd'); if (!$link) { die('Something went wrong while connecting to MSSQL'); } ?> obviously I'm using a real username and password, but when I load the file in my browser, I receive a 500 error. I'm downloading and saving this daily in case the server isn't available and I need to just get some data out. I don't care about the logs or any other parts of the DB but the data, procs, tables, and functions. What's the easiest way to get just this information backed up?

Every time I try to unhide the advanced configuration during install, it's never there... Can anyone point me to the correct download? Looking for 2005 (not 2008) because my work SQL server that I am trying to learn this for is 2005, and the training material I have is for 2005 and VS 2008 does not want to integrate with SQL2008 express.

  • Using SQL Developer to Debug your Anonymous PL/SQL Blocks

    Everyone knows that SQL Developer has a PL/SQL debugger – check! Everyone also knows that it’s only setup for debugging standalone PL/SQL objects like Functions, Procedures, and Packages, right? – NO! SQL Developer can also debug your Stored Java Procedures AND it can debug your standalone PLSQL blocks. These bits of PLSQL which do not live in the database are also known as ‘Anonymous Blocks.’ Anonymous PL/SQL blocks can be submitted to interactive tools such as SQL*Plus and Enterprise Manager, or embedded in an Oracle Precompiler or OCI program. At run time, the program sends these blocks to the Oracle database, where they are compiled and executed. Here’s an example of something you might want help debugging: Declare x number := 0; Begin Dbms_Output.Put(Sysdate || ' ' || Systimestamp); For Stuff In 1..100 Loop Dbms_Output.Put_Line('Stuff is equal to ' || Stuff || '.'); x := Stuff; End Loop; End; / With the power of remote debugging and unshared worksheets, we are going to be able to debug this ANON block! The trick – we need to create a dummy stored procedure and call it in our ANON block. Then we’re going to create an unshared worksheet and execute the script from there while the SQL Developer session is listening for remote debug connections. We step through the dummy procedure, and this takes OUT to our calling ANON block. Then we can use watches, breakpoints, and all that fancy debugger stuff! First things first, create this dummy procedure - create or replace procedure do_nothing is begin null; end; Then mouse-right-click on your Connection and select ‘Remote Debug.’ For an in-depth post on how to use the remote debugger, check out Barry’s excellent post on the subject. Open an unshared worksheet using Ctrl+Shift+N. This gives us a dedicated connection for our worksheet and any scripts or commands executed in it. Paste in your ANON block you want to debug. Add in a call to the dummy procedure above to the first line of your BEGIN block like so Begin do_nothing(); ... Then we need to setup the machine for remote debug for the session we have listening – basically we connect to SQL Developer. You can do that via a Environment Variable, or you can just add this line to your script - CALL DBMS_DEBUG_JDWP.CONNECT_TCP( 'localhost', '4000' ); Where ‘localhost’ is the machine where SQL Developer is running and ’4000′ is the port you started the debug listener on. Ok, with that all set, now just RUN the script. Once the PL/SQL call is made, the debugger will be invoked. You’ll end up in the DO_NOTHING() object. Debugging an ANON block from SQL Developer is possible! If you step out to the ANON block, we’ll end up in the script that’s used to call the procedure – which is the script you want to debug. The Anonymous Block is opened in a new SQL Dev page You can now step through the block, using watches and breakpoints as expected. I’m guessing your scripts are going to be a bit more complicated than mine, but this serves as a decent example to get you started. Here’s a screenshot of a watch and breakpoint defined in the anon block being debugged: Breakpoints, watches, and callstacks - oh my! For giggles, I created a breakpoint with a passcount of 90 for the FOR LOOP to see if it works.   • SQL Server 2005 to 2008 upgrade - are MDF files binary compatible?

    I have 50 databases on a MS SQL Server 2005 system and want to upgrade to MS SQL Server 2008. This is what I tried on some test machines: 1. copied the \DATA directory from the source (MSSQL 2005) to exactly the same path on the target (MSSQL 2008) server. 2. edited the startup parameters on the MSSQL 2008 service to point to the path of the MSSQL 2005 master database. 3. restarted MSSQL service It worked and I can access all databases, tables and data. My questions are: I go back to SQL Server 4.2 and it has never been this easy. I know it worked, but should have it worked? Am I missing something, or is there going to be a gotcha next week? These are simple databases, with just tables, views and indexes. No cross database links, no triggers etc

Visual Studio 2008: After 8-9 minute of successful installation , I received a error in installing & I had no more option other than closing the installer window.   • SSRS 2005 Set SimplePageHeaders on the report instead of the server?

    I have one report that does not export to excel friendly from SSRS 2005. I know I can use <Render> <Extension Name="EXCEL" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.ExcelRenderer.ExcelRenderer,Microsoft.ReportingServices.ExcelRendering"> <Configuration> <DeviceInfo> <SimplePageHeaders>True</SimplePageHeaders> </DeviceInfo> </Configuration> </Extension> </Render> in the rsreportserver.config, but I am not the only person with reports on this machine. I also found that you can pass &rc:SimplePageHeaders=True in the url to export the report programatically. I tried adding the &rc:SimplePageHeaders=True to the end of the url when navigating to the report manager, but when I select excel from the dropdown and click export the headers are still exported. I even tried setting the rc:Command=Render and rc:Format=EXCEL in the url too without any luck. Is there a way to do what I am trying to do? note: I am wanting to render the report on the built in report manager and use the build in export to excel dropdown, not in an app or website.

  • Powershell Transcript is empty when running script from SQL Agent Job in 2005 SQL Server

    I have a complex Powershell script that gets run as part of a SQL 2005 Server Agent Job. The script works fine, but it uses the "Start-Transcript $strLogfile -Append" command to log all of it's actions to a transcript file. The problem is that the transcript is always empty. It adds the header and footer to indicate that the transcript is starting and stopping, but it doesn't actually log anything. Example: ********************** Windows PowerShell Transcript Start Start time: 20100304173001 Username : xxxxxxxxxxxx\SYSTEM Machine : xxxxx-xxx (Microsoft Windows NT 5.2.3790 Service Pack 2) ********************** ********************** Windows PowerShell Transcript End End time: 20100304173118 ********************** When I execute the script from a command prompt or start - run everything works just fine. Here is the command used to run the script (same command used in the Operating system CmdExec step of the SQL Agent Job) powershell.exe -File "c:\temp\Backup\backup script.ps1" I first thought it must have something to do with the script running under the System account (default SQL Agent account), but even when I tried changing the SQL Agent to run under my own personal account it still created a blank transcript. Is there any way to get PowerShell Transcripts to work when executing them as part of a 2005 SQL Server Agent Job?

    I am trying to create a link server of a remote database(both the servers are SQL serve2005). I am able to connect that remote server from my SQL Server management studio. I used the following syntax to create it. EXEC sp_addlinkedserver @server = N'LINKSQL2005', @srvproduct = N'', @provider = N'SQLNCLI', @provstr = N'SERVER=IP Address of remote server ;User ID=XXXXXX;Password=***' I have provided the IP addressntax. and user name and password in the above syntax. The link server is getting created. But when I try to execute a query on it I get the error below. Query Used. select * from LINKSQL2005.<DBName>.dbo.<TableName> OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "LINKSQL2005" returned message "Communication link failure". Msg 10054, Level 16, State 1, Line 0 TCP Provider: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. Msg 18456, Level 14, State 1, Line 0 Login failed for user 'sa'. OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "LINKSQL2005" returned message "Invalid connection string attribute". Pls help me, where am I making mistake.

    When I open Reporting Services Configuration Manager on my server, an error message appears that says: Reporting Services Configuration Manager An unknown error has occurred in the WMI Provider. Error Code 800706B3 This error appears before I can even attempt to connect to an SSRS instance. In addition to this problem, I'm not able to connect to my SSRS instance via SSMS on my desktop. When I attempt to connect, I get the following error message: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.     Hi, Can somebody tell me how to rename the DB server instance name and a DB name in SQL Server 2005? Right Now I Have SERVER/OLDNAME -- oldnameDB I want to change the server instance and also change the db name. I have tried: EXEC sp_renamedb 'oldName', 'newName' and that has changed the dbname as it appers in the tree directory. But, when I do "select @@servername" it is the old name. Also, the MDF and LDF files are still the old name. How do change instance and db names as a clean sweep across the server? Thanks.

    I have a dev and QA environment with SQL 2005 EE on dev and SQL 2000 on QA. On QA I run aspnet_regsql –ssadd –sstype t -E in command line and it works fine. I run the same command on dev and it returns "'-ssadd' is invalid". The working directory for both is C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727. I found some info on MSDN that said that SQL Express Edit. required a script to run before -ssadd will work, but this script didn't help me. I'm not sure where to go from here.

I am trying to connect the above databases through heterogeneous services. I have updated the following files: TNSNames.ora, Listener.ora and hs.ora. When performing a test connection from SQL developer, I get the following error - ORA 28500 - indicating that the login for SA user is incorrect. I also tried using another authenticated user that has rights to the database. I can successfully connect with SQL 2000. Has anyone experienced such a problem before?
