    I am trying to learn A* path finding. I am using this library - https://github.com/qiao/PathFinding.js But there is one thing I don't understand how to do. To find a path from player.x/player.y (player.x and player.y are both 0) to 10/10 I use this code var path = finder.findPath(player.x, player.y, 10, 10, grid); This gives an array of where I need to move, but how do I apply this array to my player.x and player.y? The path structure looks like this path = [[0, 0], [1, 0], [1, 1], ..., [10, 10]]

  • API always returns JSONObject or JSONArray Best practices

    I'm making an API that will return data in JSON. I also wanted on client side to make an utility class to call this API. Something like : JSONObject sendGetRequest(Url url); JSONObject sendPostRequest(Url url, HashMap postData); However sometimes the API send back array of object [{id:1},{id:2}] I now got two choices (): Make the method test for JSONArray or JSONObject and send back an Object that I will have to cast in the caller Make a method that returns JSONObject and one for JSONArray (like sendGetRequestAndReturnAsJSONArray) Make the server always send Arrays even for one element Make the server always send Objects wrapping my Array I going for the two last methods since I think it would be a good thing to force the API to send consistent type of data. But what would be the best practice (if one exist). Always send arrays? or always send objects?

  • Why is JavaScript not used for classical application development (compiled software)?

    During my years of web development with JavaScript, I come to the conclusion that it's an incredible powerful language, and you can do amazing things with it. It offers a rich set of features, like: Dynamic typing First-class functions Nested functions Closures Functions as methods Functions as Object constructors Prototype-based Objects-based (almost everything is an object) Regex Array and Object literals It seems to me that almost everything can be achieved with this kind of language, you can also emulate OO programming, since it provides great freedom and many different coding styles. With more software-oriented custom functionalities (I/O, FileSystem, Input devices, etc.) I think it will be great to develop applications with. Though, as far as I know, it's only used in web development or in existing softwares as a scripting language only. Only recently, maybe thanks to the V8 Engine, it's been used more for other kind of tasks (see node.js for example). Why until now it's only be relegated only to web development? What is keeping it away from software development?

  • Odds For Fighting Game

    I'm creating a fighting game where two opponents face off against each other in the ring. While I've been able to figure out the odds of a player winning based on previous wins/losses, I have yet to find a formula which modifies those odds based on opponent. For example: Player 1: W:5 L:5 - 1/1 odds Player 2: W:5 L:0 - 1/5 odds I want to calculate the odds that Player 1 will wins against player 2. Compounding this the players could be of different levels: if the players are within a few levels of each other, the odds should map closely to wins/losses. However, as the levels diverge, the odds of the lower level player winning reduce. As a swag: Player 1 - W:5 L:5 - 1:1 odds Against a level 8 - 1:2 Against a level 9 - 2:3 Against a level 10 - 1:1 Against a level 11 - 3:2 Against a level 12 - 2:1 These are just estimates, my sense is that there is a math formula out there which will calculate that - can anyone out there point me to what this could be?     Using Unity3d, I have a array which is having 8 GameObjects in grid and one object (which is already known) is in center like this where K is already known object. All objects are equidistant from their adjacent objects (even with the diagonal objects) which means (distance between 4 & K) == (distance between K & 3) = (distance between 2 & K) 1 2 3 4 K 5 6 7 8 I want to remove 1,3,6,8 from array (the diagonal objects). How can I check that at runtime? my problem is the order of objects {1-8} is not known so I need to check each object's position with K to see if it is a diagonal object or not. so what check should I put with the GameObjects (K and others) to verify if this object is in diagonal position Regards, Sam

I've looked a little into jBPM but it seemed to have a steep learning curve. Google seems to take me to commercial products or products that I think are open source but instead have very limited "community editions". I could simply be searching for the wrong terms. What I would like to know are what actual workflow based products have you used at your company and to what degree of success or failure was it? Would you use it again? Thanks.

  • How can I manage changes between a local config file and a remote config file in a mobile application?

    I have an application with a configuration file that is stored in the application bundle. This config file stores the names of images on a remote server. Whenever the application is started, I download the configuration file from the server and see if there are any changes or updates. If there are changes, I iterate over the array of configuration settings and download the changed images to the user's iPhone I think that I will first list all of the name changes in an array, and after that start loading that changed images. However, I'm wondering if there is a better approach to solving this problem.

    So I'm looking at several solutions for our new website. And we've looked at ExpressionEngine first and foremost. Now, during brainstorming today, one person said "why don't we use Sharepoint 2010 to build the site on?", and it doesn't seem like a horrible idea. I mean, we're based around Office anyway. We use Lync and have an intranet based on Sharepoint 2010 anyway. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Would it cost more to develop an internet webpage on Sharepoint 2010 opposed to using ExpressionEngine?

  • Running Built-In Test Simulator with SOA Suite Healthcare 11g in PS4 and PS5

    Background SOA Suite for Healthcare Integration pack comes with a pre-installed simulator that can be used as an external endpoint to generate inbound and outbound HL7 traffic on specified MLLP ports. This is a command-line utility that can be very handy when trying to build a complete end-to-end demo within a standalone, closed environment. The ant-based utility accepts the name of a configuration file as the command-line input argument. The format of this configuration file has changed between PS4 and PS5. In PS4, the configuration file was XML based and in PS5, it is name-value property based. The rest of this note highlights these differences and provides samples that can be used to run the first scenario from the product samples set. PS4 - Configuration File The sample configuration file for PS4 is shown below. The configuration file contains information about the following items: Directory for incoming and outgoing files for the host running SOA Suite Healthcare Polling Interval for the directory External Endpoint Logical Names External Endpoint Server Host Name and Ports Message throughput to be simulated for generating outbound messages Documents to be handled by different endpoints A copy of this file can be downloaded from here. PS5 - Configuration File The corresponding sample configuration file for PS5 is shown below. The configuration file contains similar information about the sample scenario but is not in XML format. It has name-value pairs specified in the form of a properties file. This sample file can be downloaded from here. Simulator Configuration Before running the simulator, the environment has to be set by defining the proper ANT_HOME and JAVA_HOME. The following extract is taken from a working sample shell script to set the environment: Also, as a part of setting the environment, template jndi.properties and logging.properties can be generated by using the following ant command: ant -f ant-b2bsimulator-util.xml b2bsimulator-prop Sample jndi.properties and logging.properties are shown below and can be modified, as needed. The jndi.properties contains information about connectivity to the local Weblogic Managed Server instance and the logging.properties file controls the amount of logging that can be generated from the running simulator process. Simulator Usage - Start and Stop The command syntax to launch the simulator via ant is the same in PS4 and PS5. Only the appropriate configuration file has to be supplied as the command-line argument, for example: ant -f ant-b2bsimulator-util.xml b2bsimulatorstart -Dargs="simulator1.hl7-config.xml" This will start the simulator and will keep running to provide an active external endpoint for SOA Healthcare Integration engine. The purpose of work - is to compare different cache strategies to get more effiency. It based on WebApplication with ejb 2.0, so algorithm's will be implemented there, espesially in ejbLoad() and ejbFindByPrimarKey(). Also, one of aspects of this application - it will use not common scheme of tables in database - it based on metamodel.     Lets say I have a link: <a href="/about/">About Us</a> But in Javascript [or jQuery] catches it and then adds the hash based off of the href attribute: $('a').click(function(e) { e.preventDefault(); // Extremely oversimplified.. window.location.hash = $(this).attr('href'); }); And then we use a hashchange event to do the general 'magic' of Ajax requests. This allows for the actual href to be seen by crawlers, but gives client-side users with JS enabled an ajax-based website. Does this 'help' the general SEO issues that come along with hashtags? I know hashbangs are 'ok', but afaik they aren't reliable?

    Is anyone aware of any studies on what colour scheme is best for use in multi-coloured text based computer work? Specifically in terms of reducing eye strain. For instance is a black back ground and light text best? Should it be a dark colour rather than going all the way to black? I've seen the questions on this site about "which is your favourite" that is not what I am after. I also aware that my question may be to specific asking for a colour scheme, if anyone could link me to some guidelines instead that would be appreciated as well. I'm concious of the fact that anyone using a computer is really using it for text based work but with the multitude of colours used to convey information within our modern IDEs I feel this is a good StackExchange site for this question.
