My problem is that a vendor is providing me with a 64bit application (packed in a 64bit installer) but it goes and installs to the x86 (Program Files) Folder and he keeps telling me its OK but I want it to install in the Program Files directory; as the 32 bit version does that and scripts for the app are developed based on this assumption.
Can someone direct me to the Microsoft recommended best practices for 64bit applications(links).
Thanks in advance.
I'd like to flash the taskbar (as described here for example), but I can't P/Invoke FlashWindowEx (or anything else, for that matter) in the security context my application is running in.
Is there another way to get the taskbar to flash? If not, what are my options for getting the user's attention?
I've been googling about how to accomplish oneline chat for rails application and I've implemented a text chat version using Juggernaut. But for video chat, I only find flash&red5 might be a solution for me, but it's flash and java, which I'm relatively not good at. Is there a better solution?
I have (in the past) written cross-platform (Windows/Unix) applications which, when started from the command line, handled a user-typed Ctrl-C combination in the same way (i.e. to terminate the application cleanly).
Is it possible on Windows to send a Ctrl-C/SIGINT/equivalent to a process from another (unrelated) process to request that it terminate cleanly (giving it an opportunity to tidy up resources etc.)?
I've got a working proprietary application (windows exe) and would like to know which particular toolkit was used to make it. The reason is that I like the widgets it uses and seek to use same library in my project (to buy it if it's proprietary as well).
Recently, in an interview asked me an question :
The communication between our application and that of the remote database must be done with https (more secure).
How could you do it? I didn't find any clue for any question in google also.
I'm really new at Ruby on Rails development. I'm reading Head First Rails and it says that Rails uses SQLite3 as it's database system.
How exactly would I go about uploading my website/application so the world can use it?
I have made a simple Rails application that allows people to comment on posts. How do I prevent that user from submitting that form over and over again? On reddit.com they only allow newer users to make new posts every ten minutes. How can I do this with my simple blog/commenting system? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading my question.

Hey, I'm creating a little GLUT application and need help with hiding/removing the console window.
I am developing on windows and I already know of the various methods to hide the console window on a windows system, however is there no portable method of hiding it?
Thanks...
I have read under: Compiling Web Application Projects (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa983464.aspx)
... this compilation model creates a single assembly, you can specify attributes, such as assembly name and version.
You can supply a PATH (directory name only) in the Visual Studio "Build Options".
But where can the file name for the assembly be specified?
All,
Over a period of time I have observed that fixing issues related to application crash is a discipline in itself. Some people have this nice way of attacking such problems. Ranging from Viewing the 'Event Viewer' to running Static/ Dynamic memory analysis tools to some of their 'personal favorites', these people have developed this art.
Can we share articles/ links/ personal approaches that we use to understand/ troubleshoot/ fix such issues?
Thanks
I am looking to start a community based on user posted scripts such as bashrc, screenrc, aliases, etc.
Does anyone know of a web application in PHP that would do that?
I am not looking for a snippet program, or a link directory.
Users can store linux/UNIX/Windows configuration files, as well as maybe an option to attach a screenshot.
Is it possible to run ASP.NET MVC application on UltiDev Cassini webserver?
If so.. are there any drawbacks / things that I need to have in mind when building this app?
I am developing a website and sometimes the browsers keeps loading, and I would like to know exactly what's making it load for so long. It gets stuck kindof.
So I wonder if there is any application or way to check what is getting loaded onto the page, so I can see what element or object it gets stuck on?
The website uses php/javascript/mysql and html
I'm adding code to a program created to be used on Windows CE. My current problem is that Application.StartupPath isn't recognized. What is the Equivalent line of code I need to use?
When trying to run my application on the emulator I get an error from the activitymanager:

My activity exists, is listed in the manifest (in fact, its the MAIN launcher activity).
Anyone know what this error means?
We are programming a new web application framework (Second WAF). I was wondering if we should support cookieless sessions or not.
Who use it and who needs it?
I would like to write an app for the iPad but I can't stand Objective-C.
Is there a language generator that would spit out Objective-C but let me write my iPad application in another language?
I've heard a little about MacRuby and am curious whether it could be used this way. Any other similar projects in other languages?
The official "MCTS Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-562): Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 ASP.NET Application Development" will not be released until mid-April.
For the time being, what is the best book with which to prepare for the exam? I'm not asking which book is the best ASP.NET 3.5 book in general, just which is best with regard to the skills measured on the exam.
The book should focus on C#, not VB.
I'm just getting started with Mac and iPhone development, and naturally my first step is to change the color theme. I've found a theme I like here, but I can't find the folder they reference in my ~/Library/Application Support/ folder. How can I install these files?
Thanks!
So I'm debugging some websites (one from trunk, one from branch) running locally, in separate apppools. I have trunk and branch solutions open in two VS instances. I'd like to debug trunk in one, and branch in the other. I'd like to know if there's a way to know which application pool each w3wp.exe is serving, to know which one is which when attaching the debugger.
Can I get somehow(from a database or other source) a percentage of the phones that would support a J2ME Midlet application given all the JSR's it uses ?
