    I'm creating an in-app store for a few built-in features for my iphone app. Apple's documention recommends using the Application Preferences for storing this, but another question in this forum suggested using NSUserDefaults for another task for which Application Preferences was recommended (by Apple). Can someone clarify if, for in-app store purchases, using the NSUserDefaults is a much better way to go? Thanks.

Think of the following cases: an mp3 track is downloaded multiple times, copied over various devices on website a login form is often rebuild many times, why not reuse more code? words themselves are used many times questions and answers are accidentally saved at many places in parallel images or photos often describe the same data (Eiffel tower, Golden gate, Taj Mahal) etc etc Are you aware of solutions? Or are you thinking about similar topics? Ideas? Blueprints? I'd love to hear from you!

  • Append a dynamically changing watermark to a PDF in SharePoint

    This is primarily a question of possibilities more than instructions. I'm a programming consultant working on a WSS project site system for my client. We have a document library in which files are uploaded to go through a complex approval process. With multiple stages in this process, we have an extra field which dictates what the current status of the document is. Now, my client has become enamored with the idea of PDF watermarking. He wants the document (which is already a PDF) to be affixed with a watermark corresponding to the current status, such that with each stage of the approval process the watermark will change. One method, the traditional method for PDF watermarking, of accomplishing this is to have one "clean" copy of the document somewhere hidden on the site, and create a new PDF from it that has the watermark at each stage of the approval process. Since the filename will never change, this new PDF can be uploaded continually to a public library, always overwriting the old version and simulating a "dynamically changing watermark". However, in the various stages there will also be people uploading clean copies with corrections and suggestions, nevermind the complex nature of juggling around two libraries and the fact we double the number of files stored. My client and I agree that this is not a practical path to choose. What we would like to do is be able to "modify" the watermark in a PDF, so that we only have to keep one copy of the file. Unfortunately, from what I've seen, in most cases when you make something like a watermark, which in its nature is supposed to be "unmodifyable", you won't be able to edit it later. So, is it possible to have a part of a PDF which cannot be changed by anyone who downloads the file, but can be changed as part of a workflow or other object model process? Thanks in advance!

    I have got a requirement as follows. I need to run ant build file during maven build process. I need to invoke the build.xml from my pom.xml file. I have done that using maven-antrun-plugin. Now I need to install the ant build generated jar file automatically into my local repository before maven compiles my project source. I tried using build-helper-maven-plugin but it did not help. Either I am doing something wrong, or i am not doing right. Please help. Update Thank you. ant maven tasks worked for me as well.     Hello. I want to change .NET framework v3.5 to .NET compact framework v3.5. But I can't change SSL Stream class to compact framework version. When I try to connect to server on .NET compact framework, TcpClient class didn't work(Smart Device project and windows ce). As you can see below, I've got the error. In other hand, this code is work on .NET framework(C# console project). I can't understand why this socket can not access to server. Thanks for reading my question.

    Recently, when I tried to explain why Ruby is a DSL to an intern at my organisation, I was not able to articulate my reasonings to the effect I would like to. Maybe I do not understand the space well enough to teach the nuances. Redirecting him to Martin Fowler' article or the google ranked one InfoQ or other material has not helped much either.   • Can 2 different applications use the same database?

    Without additional context, the answer is "no", I think. Here is the context. I want to have a free version and a premium version of the same application. When people buy the application, I want them to be able to "upgrade" without losing their data, i.e. the premium version should install over the free version. I want to use the same code base and just switch a setting to build the premium version. Andoid Market does not let me convert a free app to a paid app, so the trivial option is not available. I am curious if someone has tried this successfully. How does Android Market identify an application - will it think that the premium version is a different app and just install it in parallel?

    Hi, I am planning to use libcurl in my project. I had downloaded the library source,built and integrated it in a small POC application. I am able to build and run the application without any issues with the generated libcurl.dll and libcurl_imp.lib files. Now when I integrate the same library in my project I am getting linker errors. 6foo.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _imp_curl_easy_setopt 6foo.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _imp_curl_easy_perform 6foo.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _imp_curl_easy_cleanup 6foo.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _imp_curl_global_init 6foo.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _imp_curl_easy_init I have researched and tried all manners of workarounds like adding CURL_STATICLIB definitions , additional libraries , changing to /MT even copying the libs to the release directory but nothing seems to work. As far as I can see the only difference between approach #1 and #2 in my steps are #1 is an console application using the libcurl.dll while in my main project this is another dll which is trying to link to libcurl.dll.. Would that necessitate any change in approach? Can I use the same generated multi threaded DLL /MD file for both(Tried /MT also with no success)? Any other ideas?     I have a CruiseControl.Net project set up to build an ASP.Net project, using an <svn task to pull the latest code from source control. On a successful build, I use a <buildpublisher to copy the site to a deployment folder. My problem is that the buildpublisher is copying everything to the destination folder, including every .svn folder and its contents. What is the easiest way to strip out the .svn folders before copying to the deployment folder?

  • Add Zend_Navigation to the View with old legacy bootstrap

    Hi, I've been struggling with Zend_Navigation all weekend, and now I have another problem, which I believe has been the cause of a lot of my issues. I am trying to add Zend_Navigation to a legacy 1.7.6 Zend Framework application, i've updated the Zend Library to 1.9.0 and updated the bootstrap to allow this library update. The problem is that I don't know how, and the examples show the new bootstrap method of how to add the Navigation object to the view, I've tried this: //initialise the application layouts with the MVC helpers $layout = Zend_Layout::startMvc(array('layoutPath' => '../application/layouts')); $view = $layout->getView(); $configNav = new Zend_Config_Xml('../application/config/navigation.xml', 'navigation'); $navigation = new Zend_Navigation($configNav); $view->navigation($navigation); $viewRenderer = new Zend_Controller_Action_Helper_ViewRenderer(); $viewRenderer->setView($view); This seems to run through fine, but when I go to use the breadcrumb view helper in my layout, it errors with: Strict Standards: Creating default object from empty value in C:\www\moobia\development\website\application\modules\employers\controllers\IndexController.php on line 27 This is caused by the following code in the init() function of my controller. $uri = $this->_request->getPathInfo(); $activeNav = $this->view->navigation()->findByUri($uri); <- this is null when called $activeNav->active = true; I believe it's because the Zend_Navigation object is not in the view. I would look at migrating the bootstrap to the current method, but at present I am running out of time for a release. Thanks, Grant

    I have some legacy vb6 applications that need to talk to my .Net engine application. The engine provides an interface that can be connected to via .net Remoting. Now I have a stub class library that wraps all of the types that the interface exposes. The purpose of this stub is to translate my .net types into COM-friendly types. When I run this class library as a console application, it is able to connect to the engine, call various methods, and successfully return the wrapped types. The next step in the chain is to allow my VB6 application to call this COM enabled stub. This works fine for my main engine-entry type (IModelFetcher which is wrapped as COM_ModelFetcher). However, when I try and get any of the model fetcher's model types (IClientModel, wrapped as COM_IClientModel, IUserModel, wrapped as COM_IUserModel, e.t.c.), I get the following exception: [Exception - type: System.InvalidCastException 'Return argument has an invalid type.'] in mscorlib at System.Runtime.Remoting.Proxies.RealProxy.ValidateReturnArg(Object arg, Type paramType) at System.Runtime.Remoting.Proxies.RealProxy.PropagateOutParameters(IMessage msg, Object[] outArgs, Object returnValue) at System.Runtime.Remoting.Proxies.RealProxy.HandleReturnMessage(IMessage reqMsg, IMessage retMsg) at System.Runtime.Remoting.Proxies.RealProxy.PrivateInvoke(MessageData& msgData, Int32 type) at AWT.Common.AWTEngineInterface.IModelFetcher.get_ClientModel() at AWT.Common.AWTEngineCOMInterface.COM_ModelFetcher.GetClientModel() The first thing I did when I saw this was to handle the 'AppDomain.CurrentDomain.AssemblyResolve' event, and this allowed me to load the required assemblies. Can someone help me untie myself from this mess of interprocess communication?!

    Are there any workarounds to get the Flex compiler to work with a 64bit JRE? If I use an MXMLC task in an Ant buildfile in Eclipse it works fine but if I try to use MXMLC from the command line (or try the Run... command from FDT in Eclipse) it fails, telling me ... "Error loading: C:\Program Files\Java\jrrt-1.6.0\jre\bin\jrockit\jvm.dll" (this is with a 64bit JRockit runtime but that shouldn't matter).

  • General N-Tier Architecture Question

    In an N-Tier app you're supposed to have a business logic layer and a data access layer. Is it bad to simply have two assemblies: BusinessLogicLayer.dll and DataAccessLayer.dll to handle all this logic? How do you actually represent these layers. It seems silly, the way I've seen it, to have a BusinessLogic class library containing classes like: CustomerBusinessLogic.cs, OrderBusinessLogic.cs, etc. each calling their appropriately named cousin in the DataAccessLayer class library, i.e. CustomerDataAccess.cs, OrderDataAccess.cs. I want to create a web app using MVP and it doesn't seem so cut and dry as this. There are lots of opinions about where the business logic is supposed to be put in MVP and I'm not sure I've found a really great answer yet. I want this project to be easily testable, and I am trying to adhere to TDD methodologies as best I can. I intend to use MSTest and Rhino Mocks for testing. I was thinking of something like the following for my architecture: I'd use LINQ-To-SQL to talk to the database. WCF services to define data contract interfaces for the business logic layer. Then use MVP with ASP.NET Forms for the UI/BLL. Now, this isn't the start of this project, most of the LINQ stuff is already done, so its stuck. The WCF service would replace the existing DataAccessLayer assembly and the UI/BLL would replace the BusinessLogicLayer assembly etc. This sort of makes sense in my head, but its getting really late. Anyone that's traveled down this path have any guidance? Good links? Warnings? Thanks!

  • MySQLdb within python2.5 virtualenv

    I have a Fedora 11 box with MySQL server. Fedora 11 uses python 2.6 internally and python 2.6 is automatically installed on the box. I have created a python virtual-env for version 2.5.5, so that I can run turbogears 1.x application. I have MySQLdb rpm installed on the box (and it works fine with python 2.6). When I import MySQLdb from within python version 2.6 it imports is successfully. When I import MySQLdb from within the python 2.5.5 virtual-env the import fails (because I have installed virtual-env with --no-site-packages). So, I have to install MySQLdb python as a local package (local to virtual-env). 'easy_install MySQL-python' within the virtual env fails. It downloads the MySQL-python-1.2.3.c1.tar.gz/download, but the 'python setup.py build' fails with error. The same problem occurs when building the MySQL outside of virtual-env. Is the 'python setup.py build' for MySQL-python trying to link to a library (and am I missing some library)? Or is the downloaded code missing some header files (unlikely)? Thanks.

    I'm having some trouble running a groovy servlet (groovlet) in tomcat that imports a library class. When I don't import anything the groovlet works correctly, but if I do import something that I expect to be on the classpath (I can import the same class successfully in a regular servlet), I see the following error: groovy.util.ScriptException: Could not parse scriptName: /MyGroovlet.groovy java.lang.RuntimeException: groovy.util.ScriptException: Could not parse scriptName: /MyGroovlet.groovy at groovy.servlet.GroovyServlet$1.call(GroovyServlet.java:123) ... Is there some way that I need to explicitly declare the runtime classpath for GroovyServlet? I've tried moving the library jar to several places, including WEB-INF/lib and moving the actual MyLibraryClass.class file to WEB-INF/classes, but with no luck.

    Hello everybody! I have a Hudson CI system set up and for the moment it is used for building a project and running some unit tests. My next step is to integrate the memory leak detector Purify into the build cycle. Now I want to start the unit tests also inside purify and for this I have created a new batch task which runs following command: purify.exe /SaveTextData MyExecutable.exe --test TestLibrary.dll --output xml As I read in the Purify documentation the /SaveTextData option is used in order to run purify not in GUI mode. If I run this command on my local workstation in the command line it works perfectly. But in case it is started by Hudson, nothing happens. Unfortunetly there are no logs of purify... Has someone ever tried to start purify either by Hudson or any other CI system? Thanks in advance. Best regards Martin EDIT: I forgot to tell you, that I have Hudson running as master and slave on different computers. On the master I have configured a task which should start the unit tests within purify on the slave. I am running the slave via JNLP. EDIT 18.03.2010: Ok, so finally I am a bit closer the source of the problem. I have discovered, that running my unit tests in purify locally the log file EngineCmdLine.log contains three commands.
