  • How to download the xml file from server and use it inside application ?

    - by Praween k
    Hi Commonware, As you provided the solution .Actually my application requirement is exactly matches as you told i.e first download it from server and then display the file and it should also be updated as per the server file is updated within running period.Can u please provide me the application code for this .This will be very much helpful.I need it Urgently!!!!!!! [If it blows up, you will either need to split it into multiple files (each with a subset of your data), or not package it with the application, instead downloading it from a server on first run of your appl.] Thanks in advance. • Preserving the order of annotations

    - by Ragunath Jawahar
    When obtaining the list of fields using getFields() and getDeclaredFields(), the order of the fields in a Java class is undefined. I need this order in my validation library. Since the order is not preserved (though some claim that the order is preserved in JDK 6 and above but is not guaranteed across VMs). I cannot speculate on this because the order of annotations across fields is absolutely essential for the library. One way to get around this is to have an order or an index attribute in my Annotation. What worries me is that the code could become a bit cumbersome for maintaining in the following case. If the use wants to insert a new annotated field then, he might have to renumber all the other annotations in the class. I could have the order or index as a floating point number - float or double but , it wouldn't look good to have order such as 1, 1.5, 2, etc., What would be an elegant solution for this problem? Here is a example code so that you can get an idea about the problem: @Required @TextRule (minLength = 6, message = "You need at least 6 characters.") private EditText usernameEditText; @Password private EditText passwordEditText; @ConfirmPassword private EditText confirmPasswordEditText; @Email private EditText emailEditText;

  • Why activity result code is diffrent then I expected

    - by Fisher
    I have 2 activities. In child activity i have put something like that in onPause(): if (isFinishing()) { final Intent intent = new Intent(); intent.putExtra(SOME_DATA, value); setResult(RESULT_OK, intent); Log.i("test", "Result set to RESULT_OK"); } In parent activity i check resultCode when child activity is destroyed, and this is what i have noticed: If i destroy child activity by some action (in some condition i invoke finish()), then resultCode is RESULT_OK But when i destroy by pressing return key (i works only in emulator so its ESC) who kills activity, then resultCode read in parent onActivityResult method equals 0 (RESULT_CANCELD). "test" log read in each case is the same.

  • How can I send Data from BroadcastReceiver to Widget?

    - by Yverman
    I have a BroadcastReceiver which loads data from the Internet and then it should send them back to a Widget. But how can I do this? What I've already done is updating the Widget directly from the Broadcast, but I like to just send de data back. public class UpdateManager extends BroadcastReceiver { @Override public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { AppWidgetManager appWidgetManager = AppWidgetManager.getInstance(context); RemoteViews remoteViews = new RemoteViews(context.getPackageName(), R.layout.widget); ComponentName thisWidget = new ComponentName(context, Widget.class); remoteViews.setTextViewText(R.id.widget_textview, "UPDATE DONE"); appWidgetManager.updateAppWidget(thisWidget, remoteViews); } }

  • How do I get the raw dimensions of a bitmap in an ImageView?

    - by potatoe
    It seems like I might be overlooking something obvious, but I can't figure out how to retrieve the raw (unscaled) dimensions of a bitmap being displayed in an ImageView. For example, if I load a bitmap using Bitmap b = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(...), I can get those dimensions from b.getWidth() and b.getHeight(), and I could pass the bitmap into an ImageView using setImageBitmap(b). But if I have a subclass of ImageView, is there any way to retrieve those dimensions without having to pass them in explicitly? I guess I'm looking for a getImageBitmap() analog of ImageView's setImageBitmap() method, which would retrieve a Bitmap object that I can call getWidth() and getHeight() on. Any other way to retrieve the original dimensions would work too, though.

I get an error message because the application runs the rest of the code in the application before the rest of the data is loaded into the database. How do I make sure the code is completed in the progressDialog before the code in the rest of the program? LocalDatabase DB = new LocalDatabase(); var dbpd = ProgressDialog.Show(this, "Loading Database", "Please wait Loading Data",true); ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem((s) =>{ DB.createDB(); RunOnUiThread(() => databaseLoaded()); });

  • How do I overwrite the functionality of the home button?

    - by Alex
    Essentially, I just want to change the home button from just hiding my app to killing the activity that is on the screen. I thought about writing a broadcast receiver that kills the activity, but I'm not sure how to kill the activity from the receiver. How do I change the functionality of the home button to "finish" the specific activity? Thanks

  • Contact picker with search function

    - by tiex
    This question1 describes a way how to show list of phone numbers and select one of them if my app needs a phone number. But image if I have a huge contact list, it is not enough to just show list but possibility for filtering (by contact's name) is also needed. Is there a standard way to show phones list with picking possibility and with filtering possibility? (I wouldn't like to invent my own) Is there a solution for the problem for sdk 2.0 and lower?

  • How can I estimate server costs for creating an app?

    - by G Dottin
    Im writing up a business plan and im having some trouble with the finance part. I put an estimate on the cost of developers, web designers and everything but server costs. Im not a programmer so I dont know all the details. But how much would you think servers are going to cost for a complex app. I cant get into too many details but it keeps track of user preferences, stores data about the user and there is quite alot of back-end to it.

  • using IntentExatras with Alarm Manager

    - by Ashwin
    I want to know if this code will work(I cannot try it out right now. Moreover, I have a few doubts that have to be cleared). Intent intent = new Intent(context, AlarmReceiver.class); intent.putExtra("user",global.getUsername()); intent.puExtra("password",global.getPassword); PendingIntent sender = PendingIntent.getBroadcast(context, 192837, intent, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT); // Get the AlarmManager service Log.v("inside log_run", "new service started"); AlarmManager am = (AlarmManager) getSystemService(ALARM_SERVICE); am.setRepeating(AlarmManager.RTC_WAKEUP, IMMEDIATELY,60000,sender); finish(); As you can see, this code starts an AlarmManager with setRepeating(). If you see the intent(actually the pending intent) passed on to the BroadcastReceiver, there are two extras that are passed on. These are global variables that live as long as the Application is running. But this AlarmManager is meant to be run in the background (that is application will be alive only for the first few calls of the o fthe alrmamanager to the broadcast recevier) My Question Will AlarmManager make a copy of the global variables(the username and password) and maintain this copy to be passed along with the intent? Because, these values will be used in the broadcast receiver.

  • When i add a bitmap to an array list the last element is duplicated in previous indexes

    - by saxofone2
    I'm trying to implement a personal way of undo/redo in a finger paint-like app. I have in synthesis three objects: the Main class (named ScorePadActivity), the relative Main Layout (with buttons, menus, etc, as well as a View object where I create my drawings), and a third object named ArrayList where i'm writing the undo/redo code. The problem is, when I press the undo button nothing happens, but if I draw anything again "one-time" and press undo, the screen is updated. If I draw many times, to see any changes happen on screen I have to press the undo button the same number of times I have drawn. Seems like (as in title) when I add a bitmap to the array list the last element is duplicated in previous indexes, and for some strange reason, everytime I press the Undo Button, the system is ok for one time, but starts to duplicate until the next undo. The index increase is verified with a series of System.out.println inserted in code. Now when I draw something on screen, the array list is updated with the code inserted after the invocation of touchup(); method in motionEvent touch_up(); } this.arrayClass.incrementArray(mBitmap); mPath.rewind(); invalidate(); and in ArrayList activity; public void incrementArray(Bitmap mBitmap) { this._mBitmap=mBitmap; _size=undoArray.size(); undoArray.add(_size, _mBitmap); } (All Logs removed for clear reading) The undo button in ScorePadActivity calls the undo method in View activity: Button undobtn= (Button)findViewById(R.id.undo); undobtn.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { mView.undo(); } }); in View activity: public void undo() { this.mBitmap= arrayClass.undo(); mCanvas = new Canvas(mBitmap); mPath.rewind(); invalidate(); } that calls the relative undo method in ArrayList activity: public Bitmap undo() { // TODO Auto-generated method stub _size=undoArray.size(); if (_size>1) { undoArray.remove(_size-1); _size=undoArray.size(); _mBitmap = ((Bitmap) undoArray.get(_size-1)).copy(Bitmap.Config.ARGB_8888,true); } return _mBitmap; } return mBitmap and invalidate: Due to my bad English I have made a scheme to make the problem more clear: I have tried with HashMap, with a simple array, I have tried to change mPath.rewind(); with reset();, new Path(); etc but nothing. Why? Sorry for the complex answer, i want give you a great thanks in advance. Best regards

  • AdMob won't load programmatically

    - by scottbot95
    I'm need to include ads into my app and I have a settings option to disable ads. so I need to load the ad in code. I copied the code from google to handle that and when I set ads:loadAdOnCreate to true, it works just fine. But if I set it to false and add the two lines AdView adView = (AdView)this.findViewById(R.id.ad); adView.loadAd(new AdRequest()); The ads stop displaying. If I look at log cat, it shows that it is receiving an ad and trying to display it. However it won't actually display on screen. Help?
