  • Creating sub-applications within applications in IIS/ASP.Net

    - by Karen
I am basically trying to do the same thing as this question, create a new application within a folder so it could be accessed as follows. * http://www.domain.com/ < Main App * http://www.domain.com/newapp < New App The problem is that newapp is reading the web.config from the Main App, which is causing errors because it doesn't have all the same dlls etc. For New App, in IIS, the starting point is set at /newapp, so I am not sure why it is reading the web.config from / at all. It is set as it's own application. I am testing this in IIS6 on XP Pro, so not sure if that makes a difference. The Main App is dotnet 1.1, and New App is 3.0.

  • how to reload jqgrid in asp.net mvc when i change dropdownlist

    - by sandeep

  • ASP.NET MVC 1: Model Binding With Disabled Textbox

    - by modernzombie
I have a textbox that I am defining as <%= Html.TextBox("Username", Model.Form.Username, new { @class = "textbox", @disabled = "disabled" })%> In my action [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] [ValidateAntiForgeryToken] public ActionResult EditLogin(LoginForm post) { ... return View(model); } post.Username will be blank, all other properties bind correctly, but if I change @disabled="disabled to @readonly="readonly" the username binds properly and everything works. It looks like model binding ignores values in disabled fields. Is their a way around this? I still need the field's value to bind to the model. I can use readonly but would prefer to use disabled so it is visually apparent to the user that they cannot edit the value of the field.

  • ASP.NET MVC model binding foreign key relationship

    - by Rory Fitzpatrick
Is it possible to bind a foreign key relationship on my model to a form input? Say I have a one-to-many relationship between Car and Manufacturer. I want to have a form for updating Car that includes a select input for setting Manufacturer. I was hoping to be able to do this using the built-in model binding, but I'm starting to think I'll have to do it myself. My action method signature looks like this: public JsonResult Save(int id, [Bind(Include="Name, Description, Manufacturer")]Car car) The form posts the values Name, Description and Manufacturer, where Manufacturer is a primary key of type int. Name and Description get set properly, but not Manufacturer, which makes sense since the model binder has no idea what the PK field is. Does that mean I would have to write a custom IModelBinder that it aware of this? I'm not sure how that would work since my data access repositories are loaded through an IoC container on each Controller constructor.

  • ASP.NET Unit Testing - WatiN and Windows 7 / Internet Explorer 8

    - by tyndall
Any tricks in getting WatiN to run on Win7/IE8? My code: browser = new IE(); browser.GoTo("http://testserver"); browser.TextField(Find.ByName("txtUser")).TypeText("tyndall"); The third line never really runs and I get an error back: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException : The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA) The second line seems to run. IE8 appears and is navigated to the correct URL.

  • ASP.NET MVC : AJAX ActionLink - Persist Data

    - by Mio
Hi guys, I'm really new at this and I was searching the web for an answer to my question and I couldn't find it, so here I am posting my question :) I'm trying to create a new record in my table Facility. For my goreign keys I'm displaying the choices in tables instead of a dropdowns. When the user clicks on the select link which is an Ajax.ActionLink(), I wanna retrieve the right record from the DB and set the foreign key of my object Facility to the one slected and replace the Div by a new Partial View. The problem is when I try to submit the form, the Facility object doesnt seem to have the foreign key that I've just set in my ajax fuction in my controller. And if the user has enter some data in the other fields of the create form, I don't them to lose what they already entered. Here's my code. Model only contains a Facility. public ActionResult Create() { Model.Facility = new Facility(); return View(Model); } This is part of my Create View <div id="FacilityTypePartialView"> <% Html.RenderPartial("FacilityType"); %> </div> This is my Partial View FacilityType <% if (Model.IsNewFacility()) { %> <p> Id: <%= Html.Encode(Model.Facility.FacilityType.FId)%> </p> <p> Type: <%= Html.Encode(Model.Facility.FacilityType.FType)%> </p> <p> Description: <%= Html.Encode(Model.Facility.FacilityType.FDescription) %> </p> <% } %> <p> <%= Html.ActionLink("Manage Facility Type", "Index","FacilityType") %> </p> <table id="FacilityTypesList"> <tr> <th> Select </th> <th> FId </th> <th> FType </th> <th> FDescription </th> </tr> <% foreach (var item in Model.GetFacilityTypes()) { %> <tr> <td> <%=Ajax.ActionLink("Select", "FacilityTypeSelect", new { id = item.FId}, new AjaxOptions { UpdateTargetId = "FacilityTypePartialView" })%> </td> <td> <%= Html.Encode(item.FId) %> </td> <td> <%= Html.Encode(item.FType) %> </td> <td> <%= Html.Encode(item.FDescription) %> </td> </tr> <% } %> </table> Here's y Ajax Funcion public PartialViewResult FacilityTypeSelect(int id) { Facility facility = new Facility(); facility.FacilityType = _repository.GetFacilityType(id); Model.Facility = facility; if (this.Request.IsAjaxRequest() == false) { return PartialView("FacilityType/FacilityType", Model); } else { return PartialView("FacilityType/FacilityTypeSelected", Model); } } Finally, my Post method [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Create( Facility facility) { Model.Facility = facility; if (ModelState.IsValid) { try { _repository.AddEntity(facility); _repository.Save(); return RedirectToAction("Details", new { id = facility.Id }); } catch { } } return View("Create", Model); } My Faciliy object coming from the View have the Facility.FacilityType set to nothing.

  • Return Json causes save file dialog in asp.net mvc

    - by Eran
    Hi, I'm integrating jquery fullcalendar into my application. Here is the code i'm using: in index.aspx: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { $('#calendar').fullCalendar({ events: "/Scheduler/CalendarData" }); }); </script> <div id="calendar"> </div> Here is the code for Scheduler/CalendarData: public ActionResult CalendarData() { IList<CalendarDTO> tasksList = new List<CalendarDTO>(); tasksList.Add(new CalendarDTO { id = 1, title = "Google search", start = ToUnixTimespan(DateTime.Now), end = ToUnixTimespan(DateTime.Now.AddHours(4)), url = "www.google.com" }); tasksList.Add(new CalendarDTO { id = 1, title = "Bing search", start = ToUnixTimespan(DateTime.Now.AddDays(1)), end = ToUnixTimespan(DateTime.Now.AddDays(1).AddHours(4)), url = "www.bing.com" }); return Json(tasksList,JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet); } private long ToUnixTimespan(DateTime date) { TimeSpan tspan = date.ToUniversalTime().Subtract( new DateTime(1970, 1, 1, 0, 0, 0)); return (long)Math.Truncate(tspan.TotalSeconds); } public ActionResult Index() { return View("Index"); } I also have the following code inside head tag in site.master: <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="ContentPlaceHolder1" runat="server" /> <link href="<%= Url.Content("~/Content/jquery-ui-1.7.2.custom.css") %>" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <link href="~Perspectiva/Content/Site.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <link href="~Perspectiva/Content/fullcalendar.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <script src="~Perspectiva/Scripts/jquery-1.4.2.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="~Perspectiva/Scripts/fullcalendar.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="/Scripts/MicrosoftAjax.debug.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="/Scripts/MicrosoftMvcAjax.debug.js" type="text/javascript"></script> Everything I did was pretty much copied from http://szahariev.blogspot.com/2009/08/jquery-fullcalendar-and-aspnet-mvc.html When navigating to /scheduler/calendardata I get a prompt for saving the json data which contents are exactly what I created in the CalendarData function. What do I need to do in order to render the page correctly? Thanks in advance, Eran

  • Unit testing a controller in ASP.NET MVC 2 with RedirectToAction

    - by Rob Walker
I have a controller that implements a simple Add operation on an entity and redirects to the Details page: [HttpPost] public ActionResult Add(Thing thing) { // ... do validation, db stuff ... return this.RedirectToAction<c => c.Details(thing.Id)); } This works great (using the RedirectToAction from the MvcContrib assembly). When I'm unit testing this method I want to access the ViewData that is returned from the Details action (so I can get the newly inserted thing's primary key and prove it is now in the database). The test has: var result = controller.Add(thing); But result here is of type: System.Web.Mvc.RedirectToRouteResult (which is a System.Web.Mvc.ActionResult). It doesn't hasn't yet executed the Details method. I've tried calling ExecuteResult on the returned object passing in a mocked up ControllerContext but the framework wasn't happy with the lack of detail in the mocked object. I could try filling in the details, etc, etc but then my test code is way longer than the code I'm testing and I feel I need unit tests for the unit tests! Am I missing something in the testing philosophy? How do I test this action when I can't get at its returned state?

  • asp.net MVC DisplayTemplates and EditorTemplate naming convention

    - by Simon G
Hi, I've got a couple of questions about the naming convention for the DisplayTemplates and EditorTemplates in MVC 2. If for example I have a customer object with a child list of account how do I: Create a display template for the list of accounts, what is the file called? When I'm doing a foreach( var c in Model.Accounts ) how do I call a display temple while in the foreach loop? When I do Html.DisplayFor( x => x ) inside the foreach x is the model and not in this case c. Thanks in advance.

  • c#, asp.net, dynamicdata Validation Exception Message Caught in JavaScript, not DynamicValidator (Dy

    - by Perplexed
I have a page here with a few list views on it that are all bound to Linq data sources and they seem to be working just fine. I want to add validation such that when a checkbox (IsVoid on the object) is checked, comments must be entered (VoidedComments on the object). Here's the bound object's OnValidate method: partial void OnValidate(ChangeAction action) { if (action == ChangeAction.Update) { if (_IsVoid) { string comments = this.VoidedComments; if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(this._VoidedComments)) { throw new ValidationException("Voided Comments are Required to Void an Error"); } } } } Despite there being a dynamic validator on the page referencing the same ValidationGroup as the dynaimc control, when the exception fires, it's caught in JavaScript and the debugger wants to break in. The message is never delivered to the UI as expected. Any thoughts as to What's going on?

  • .NET file Decryption - Bad Data

    - by Jon
I am in the process of rewriting an old application. The old app stored data in a scoreboard file that was encrypted with the following code: private const String SSecretKey = @"?B?n?Mj?"; public DataTable GetScoreboardFromFile() { FileInfo f = new FileInfo(scoreBoardLocation); if (!f.Exists) { return setupNewScoreBoard(); } DESCryptoServiceProvider DES = new DESCryptoServiceProvider(); //A 64 bit key and IV is required for this provider. //Set secret key For DES algorithm. DES.Key = ASCIIEncoding.ASCII.GetBytes(SSecretKey); //Set initialization vector. DES.IV = ASCIIEncoding.ASCII.GetBytes(SSecretKey); //Create a file stream to read the encrypted file back. FileStream fsread = new FileStream(scoreBoardLocation, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read); //Create a DES decryptor from the DES instance. ICryptoTransform desdecrypt = DES.CreateDecryptor(); //Create crypto stream set to read and do a //DES decryption transform on incoming bytes. CryptoStream cryptostreamDecr = new CryptoStream(fsread, desdecrypt, CryptoStreamMode.Read); DataTable dTable = new DataTable("scoreboard"); dTable.ReadXml(new StreamReader(cryptostreamDecr)); cryptostreamDecr.Close(); fsread.Close(); return dTable; } This works fine. I have copied the code into my new app so that I can create a legacy loader and convert the data into the new format. The problem is I get a "Bad Data" error: System.Security.Cryptography.CryptographicException was unhandled Message="Bad Data.\r\n" Source="mscorlib" The error fires at this line: dTable.ReadXml(new StreamReader(cryptostreamDecr)); The encrypted file was created today on the same machine with the old code. I guess that maybe the encryption / decryption process uses the application name / file or something and therefore means I can not open it. Does anyone have an idea as to: A) Be able explain why this isn't working? B) Offer a solution that would allow me to be able to open files that were created with the legacy application and be able to convert them please? Here is the whole class that deals with loading and saving the scoreboard: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Text; using System.Security.Cryptography; using System.Runtime.InteropServices; using System.IO; using System.Data; using System.Xml; using System.Threading; namespace JawBreaker { [Serializable] class ScoreBoardLoader { private Jawbreaker jawbreaker; private String sSecretKey = @"?B?n?Mj?"; private String scoreBoardFileLocation = ""; private bool keepScoreBoardUpdated = true; private int intTimer = 180000; public ScoreBoardLoader(Jawbreaker jawbreaker, String scoreBoardFileLocation) { this.jawbreaker = jawbreaker; this.scoreBoardFileLocation = scoreBoardFileLocation; } // Call this function to remove the key from memory after use for security [System.Runtime.InteropServices.DllImport("KERNEL32.DLL", EntryPoint = "RtlZeroMemory")] public static extern bool ZeroMemory(IntPtr Destination, int Length); // Function to Generate a 64 bits Key. private string GenerateKey() { // Create an instance of Symetric Algorithm. • Validating result of JsonConvert.DeserializeObject (think "try parse") using JSON.Net

    - by Riri
I have incoming messages that I need to try and parse in my own objects structure. SOme of these are well formed JSON obejcts and some are just nonsense. I use JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<MyObject>(incmoingString); to do this. This however sometimes gives me a exception when the incoming is total garbage. Other times I get a non-complete object structure when the incoming string is kind of OK - and finally it sometimes work. I've wrapped the conversion in a try/catch and than manually validate that I've gotten the properties I need to the deserialized result. Is there a better way to do this?

  • IIS 7.5, ASP.NET, impersonation, and access to C:\Windows\Temp

    - by Heinzi
Summary: One of our web applications requires write access to C:\Windows\Temp. However, no matter how much I weaken the NTFS permission, procmon shows ACCESS DENIED. Background (which might or might not be relevant for the problem): We are using OLEDB to access an MS Access database (which is located outside of C:\Windows\Temp). Unfortunately, this OLEDB driver requires write access to the user profile's TEMP directory (which happens to be C:\Windows\Temp when running under IIS 7.5), otherwise the dreaded "Unspecified Error" OleDbException is thrown. See KB 926939 for details. I followed the steps in the KB article, but it doesn't help. Details: This is the output of icacls C:\Windows\Temp. For debugging purposes I gave full permissions to Everyone. C:\Windows\Temp NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(OI)(CI)(F) CREATOR OWNER:(OI)(CI)(IO)(F) BUILTIN\IIS_IUSRS:(OI)(CI)(S,RD) BUILTIN\Users:(CI)(S,WD,AD,X) BUILTIN\Administrators:(OI)(CI)(F) Everyone:(OI)(CI)(F) However, this is the screenshot of procmon: Desired Access: Generic Read/Write, Delete Disposition: Create Options: Synchronous IO Non-Alert, Non-Directory File, Random Access, Delete On Close, Open No Recall Attributes: NT ShareMode: None AllocationSize: 0 Impersonating: MYDOMAIN\myuser

  • Asp.net MVC Route class that supports catch-all parameter anywhere in the URL

    - by Robert Koritnik
the more I think about it the more I believe it's possible to write a custom route that would consume these URL definitions: {var1}/{var2}/{var3} Const/{var1}/{var2} Const1/{var1}/Const2/{var2} {var1}/{var2}/Const as well as having at most one greedy parameter on any position within any of the upper URLs like {*var1}/{var2}/{var3} {var1}/{*var2}/{var3} {var1}/{var2}/{*var3} There is one important constraint. Routes with greedy segment can't have any optional parts. All of them are mandatory. Example This is an exemplary request http://localhost/Show/Topic/SubTopic/SubSubTopic/123/This-is-an-example This is URL route definition {action}/{*topicTree}/{id}/{title} Algorithm Parsing request route inside GetRouteData() should work like this: Split request into segments: Show Topic SubTopic SubSubTopic 123 This-is-an-example Process route URL definition starting from the left and assigning single segment values to parameters (or matching request segment values to static route constant segments). When route segment is defined as greedy, reverse parsing and go to the last segment. Parse route segments one by one backwards (assigning them request values) until you get to the greedy catch-all one again. When you reach the greedy one again, join all remaining request segments (in original order) and assign them to the greedy catch-all route parameter. Questions As far as I can think of this, it could work. But I would like to know: Has anyone already written this so I don't have to (because there are other aspects to parsing as well that I didn't mention (constraints, defaults etc.) Do you see any flaws in this algorithm, because I'm going to have to write it myself if noone has done it so far. I haven't thought about GetVirtuaPath() method at all.

  • ASP.NET DataList - defining "columns/rows" when repeating horizontal and using flow layout

Here is my DataList: <asp:DataList id="DataList" Visible="false" RepeatDirection="Horizontal" Width="100%" HorizontalAlign="Justify" RepeatLayout="Flow" runat="server"> [Contents Removed] </asp:DataList> This generates markup that has each item wrapped in a span. Ideally I would like something like this: <div> <span>Item 1</span> <span>Item 2</span> <span>Item 3</span> </div> <div> <span>Item 4</span> <span>Item 5</span> <span>Item 6</span> </div> [etc] The closest I can get to this is to set RepeatColumns to "3" and then a <br> is inserted after every three items in the DataList. <span>Item 1</span> <span>Item 2</span> <span>Item 3</span> <br> <span>Item 4</span> <span>Item 5</span> <span>Item 6</span> <br> This gets me kind of close, but really doesn't do the trick - I still can't control the layout the way I'd like to be able to. Can anyone suggest a way to make this better? If I could implement the above example - that would be perfect, however I'd accept a less elegant solution as well - as long as its more flexible than <br> (such as inserting a <span class="clear"></span> instead of <br>).

  • Bind DropDownList with Hierarchy from MSSQL Table with ASP.NET C#

    - by Gal V
Hello all, I have the following sql table which contains menu (website menu) data. Table Name: MenuItems Columns: Id, MenuId, ParentMenuItemId, Text. My goal is to bind a DDL according to the following hierarchy (example): Id: 1, MenuId: 1, ParentMenuItemId: -1, Text: 'One' Id: 2, MenuId: 1, ParentMenuItemId: 1, Text: 'Two' Id: 3, MenuId: 1, ParentMenuItemId: 1, Text: 'Three' Id: 4, MenuId: 1, ParentMenuItemId: 2, Text: 'Four' Id: 5, MenuId: 1, ParentMenuItemId: 4, Text: 'Five' Requested result in DDL: One -- Two ---- Four ------ Five -- Three I think it should contain 'WITH' SQL command. Thanks all!

  • Specify the search path for DllImport in .NET

    - by Stefan
Is there a way to specify the paths to be searched for a given assembly that is imported with DllImport? [DllImport("MyDll.dll")] static extern void Func(); This will search for the dll in the app dir and in the PATH environment variable. But at times the dll will be placed elsewhere. Can this information be specified in app.config or manifest file to avoid dynamic loading and dynamic invocation?

  • Enterprise Service Bus, .NET Service Bus, NServiceBus and the wheels on the bus...

    - by Chris Marisic
Enterprise Service Bus (ESB), .NET Service Bus, NServiceBus, RhinoServiceBus, MassTransit and so on. I'm trying to understand what each of these technologies have in common or not in common. I attended Juval Löwy's presentation on the .NET Service Bus earlier today and he stated that the .NET Service Bus could be used as a poor man's version of an ESB, so I would take that to mean that the .NET Service Bus is NOT an ESB, are any of the others a true ESB? If any of the others are a true ESB what would make them a true ESB as opposed to the .NET Service Bus?

  • Impersonation in ASP.NET MVC

    - by eibrahim
I have an Action that needs to read a file from a secure location, so I have to use impersonation to read the file. This code WORKS: [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Get)] public ActionResult DirectDownload(Guid id) { if (Impersonator.ImpersonateValidUser()) { try { var path = "path to file"; if (!System.IO.File.Exists(path)) { return View("filenotfound"); } var bytes = System.IO.File.ReadAllBytes(path); return File(bytes, "application/octet-stream", "FileName"); } catch (Exception e) { Log.Exception(e); }finally { Impersonator.UndoImpersonation(); } } return View("filenotfound"); } The only problem with the above code is that I have to read the entire file into memory and I am going to be dealing with VERY large files, so this is not a good solution. But if I replace these 2 lines: var bytes = System.IO.File.ReadAllBytes(path); return File(bytes, "application/octet-stream", "FileName"); with this: return File(path, "application/octet-stream", "FileName"); It does NOT work and I get the error message: Access to the path 'c:\projects\uploads\1\aa2bcbe7-ea99-499d-add8-c1fdac561b0e\Untitled 2.csv' is denied. I guess using the File results with a path, tries to open the file at a later time in the request pipeline when I have already "undone" the impersonation. Remember, the impersonation code works because I can read the file in the bytes array. What I want to do though is stream the file to the client. Any idea how I can work around this? Thanks in advance.

  • ASP.Net FormsAuthentication Redirect Loses the cookie between Redirect and Application_AuthenticateR

    - by Joel Etherton
I have a FormsAuthentication cookie that is persistent and works independently in a development, test, and production environment. I have a user that can authenticate, the user object is created, the authentication cookie is added to the response: 'Custom object to grab the TLD from the url authCookie.Domain = myTicketModule.GetTopLevelDomain(Request.ServerVariables("HTTP_HOST")) FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(authTicket.Name, False) Response.SetCookie(authCookie) The user gets processed a little bit to check for a first time login, security questions, etc, and is then redirected with the following tidbit: Session.Add("ForceRedirect", "/FirstTimeLogin.aspx") Response.Redirect("~/FirstTimeLogin.aspx", True) With a debug break, I can verify that the cookie collection holds both a cookie not related to authentication that I set for a different purpose and the formsauthentication cookie. Then the next step in the process occurs at the ApplicationAuthenticateRequest in the global.asax: Sub Application_AuthenticateRequest(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Dim formsCookieName As String = myConfigurationManager.AppSettings("FormsCookieName") Dim authCookie As HttpCookie = Request.Cookies(formsCookieName) At this point, for this ONE user authCookie is nothing. I have 15,000 other users who are not impacted in this manner. However, for one user the cookie just vanishes without a trace. I've seen this before with w3wp.exe exceptions, state server exceptions and other IIS process related exceptions, but I'm getting no exceptions in the event log. w3wp.exe is not crashing, the state server has some timeouts but they appear unrelated (as verified by timestamps) and it only happens to this one user on this one domain (this code is used across 2 different TLDs with approximately 10 other subdomains). One avenue I'm investigating is that the cookie might just be too large. I would think that there would be a check for the size of the cookie going into the response, and I wouldn't think it would impact it this way. Any ideas why the request might dumping the cookie? NOTE: The secondary cookie I mentioned that I set also gets dumped (and it's very tiny). EDIT-NOTE: The session token is NOT lost when this happens. However, since the authentication cookie is lost, it is ignored and replaced on a subsequent login.
