  • DevExpress ASP.NET MVC Combobox not showing the values

    - by Taskos George
In my PartialView I add a grid with a column that I need to be a combobox in this way. settings.Columns.Add(column => { column.FieldName = "TheFieldName"; column.Caption = ""ACaption; column.ColumnType = MVCxGridViewColumnType.ComboBox; var comboBoxProperties = column.PropertiesEdit as ComboBoxProperties; comboBoxProperties.DataSource = ViewData["MyListOfObjects"]; comboBoxProperties.TextField = "Description"; comboBoxProperties.ValueField = "Description"; comboBoxProperties.ValueType = typeof(String); }); The ViewData is populated in the Index method of the Controller and I have checked that it is populated with objects that contain values. The Combobox in the PopupEditForm not showing anything. Any idea what could be wrong? Regards.

  • asp.net update LINQ dbml files

    - by rockinthesixstring
Is there a quick and easy way to update my LINQ dbml files? Right now, if I update a Stored Procedure, I need to open the dbml designer file, delete the old SP, save, drag and drop the new SP, and save again. I haven't researched this a whole bunch, but I'm wondering if there's an easy way for Visual Studio to just go into the DB and update the dbml to the latest SP's by just clicking an update button or something along those lines.

  • ASP.NET WebControl ITemplate child controls are null

    - by tster
    Here is what I want: I want a control to put on a page, which other developers can place form elements inside of to display the entities that my control is searching. I have the Searching logic all working. The control builds custom search fields and performs searches based on declarative C# classes implementing my SearchSpec interface. Here is what I've been trying: I've tried using ITemplate on a WebControl which implements INamingContainer I've tried implementing a CompositeControl The closest I can get to working is below. OK I have a custom WebControl [ AspNetHostingPermission(SecurityAction.Demand, Level = AspNetHostingPermissionLevel.Minimal), AspNetHostingPermission(SecurityAction.InheritanceDemand, Level = AspNetHostingPermissionLevel.Minimal), DefaultProperty("SearchSpecName"), ParseChildren(true), ToolboxData("<{0}:SearchPage runat=\"server\"> </{0}:SearchPage>") ] public class SearchPage : WebControl, INamingContainer { [Browsable(false), PersistenceMode(PersistenceMode.InnerProperty), DefaultValue(typeof(ITemplate), ""), Description("Form template"), TemplateInstance(TemplateInstance.Single), TemplateContainer(typeof(FormContainer))] public ITemplate FormTemplate { get; set; } public class FormContainer : Control, INamingContainer{ } public Control MyTemplateContainer { get; private set; } [Bindable(true), Category("Behavior"), DefaultValue(""), Description("The class name of the SearchSpec to use."), Localizable(false)] public virtual string SearchSpecName { get; set; } [Bindable(true), Category("Behavior"), DefaultValue(true), Description("True if this is query mode."), Localizable(false)] public virtual bool QueryMode { get; set; } private SearchSpec _spec; private SearchSpec Spec { get { if (_spec == null) { Type type = Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetTypes().Where(t => t.Name == SearchSpecName).First(); _spec = (SearchSpec)Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().CreateInstance(type.Namespace + "." + type.Name); } return _spec; } } protected override void CreateChildControls() { if (FormTemplate != null) { MyTemplateContainer = new FormTemplateContainer(this); FormTemplate.InstantiateIn(MyTemplateContainer); Controls.Add(MyTemplateContainer); } else { Controls.Add(new LiteralControl("blah")); } } protected override void RenderContents(HtmlTextWriter writer) { // <snip> } protected override HtmlTextWriterTag TagKey { get { return HtmlTextWriterTag.Div; } } } public class FormTemplateContainer : Control, INamingContainer { private SearchPage parent; public FormTemplateContainer(SearchPage parent) { this.parent = parent; } } then the usage: <tster:SearchPage ID="sp1" runat="server" SearchSpecName="TestSearchSpec" QueryMode="False"> <FormTemplate> <br /> Test Name: <asp:TextBox ID="testNameBox" runat="server" Width="432px"></asp:TextBox> <br /> Owner: <asp:TextBox ID="ownerBox" runat="server" Width="427px"></asp:TextBox> <br /> Description: <asp:TextBox ID="descriptionBox" runat="server" Height="123px" Width="432px" TextMode="MultiLine" Wrap="true"></asp:TextBox> </FormTemplate> </tster:SearchPage> The problem is that in the CodeBehind, the page has members descriptionBox, ownerBox and testNameBox. However, they are all null. Furthermore, FindControl("ownerBox") returns null as does this.sp1.FindControl("ownerBox"). I have to do this.sp1.MyTemplateContainer.FindControl("ownerBox") to get the control. How can I make it so that the C# Code Behind will have the controls generated and not null in my Page_Load event so that developers can just do this: testNameBox.Text = "foo"; ownerBox.Text = "bar"; descriptionBox.Text = "baz";

  • ASP.NET MVC - Parent-Child Table Relation - how to creat Children in MVC (example request)

    - by adudley
Hi All. In a standard setup of Parent Child relation, lets say Project and Task. Where a Project is made up of lots of Tasks. So in a standard RDB, we have a Project (ID, Name, Deadline) Task (ID, FK_To_Project, Name, Description, isCompleted) this is all very straight forward. We have an MVC View that views Projects, so we get a nice list of all the project Names next to each deadline. Now we want to CREATE a new PROJECT. The Edit view opens, we type a name, say, 'Make a cup of Tea', with tomorrow as the deadline! Still in this view/web page, I would like a list of all the Child Tasks, in a standard list, with Edit, Delete, and a Create/Add Task button too, just below the 'parent table' details. The simplest way to describe this, is the Parents Table Create/Edit view, with the Childes List View Below it. 1) The ideal solution will also allow my Child Table (Tasks) to have Children also (for more complex scenarios) , and so on, and on, and on. 2) If I navigate away from my Created Project, I don’t want all sorts of random stuff laying around, they went away, it’s gone! 3) I’d expect all the same functionality when Editing an existing project. I’m struggling with the ‘Add New Child’, I had a model dialog (jquery) and all was well, but now when editing an existing child/task, I need to populate the Child Edit, which is a pain and will need loads of java script I think :( How can this be achieved in MVC, does anybody have any examples?

  • C# asp.net EF MVC postgresql error 23505: Duplicate key violates unique constraint

    - by user2721755
EDIT: It was issue with database table - dropping and recreating table id column did the work. Problem solved. I'm trying to build web application, that is connected to postgresql database. Results are displaying in view with Kendo UI. When I'm trying to add new row (with Kendo UI 'Add new record' button), I get error 23505: 'Duplicate key violates unique constraint'. My guess is, that EF takes id to insert from the beginning, not the last one, because after 35 (it's number of rows in table) tries - and errors - adding works perfectly. Can someone help me to understand, what's wrong? • online quiz using ASP dot NET

    - by wacky_coder
Hii, I need to develop an online quiz website that would be having MCQs. I would want to have one question appearing per page with a Numeric Pager so that the user can go back and forth. I tried using the FormView for displaying the questions and RadioButtons. I created a class QANS that would hold the answer selected by the user for the questions that he did answer so that I can later sum up the total Score. Now, the problem I'm facing is as below: Let the user select a RadioButton, say R, on a PageIndex, say I, and then go to some other page, say K. When the user returns back to page I, none of the RadioButtons is selected. I tried adding code for setting the Checked property of the RadioButton true in the Page_Load(), but it didn't help. I also tried the same with the PageIndexChanged and PageIndexChanging event, but the RadioButton doesn't get checked. The RadioButton that was selected for a particular question has been stored and I am able to print which one it was using Response.Write() but I'm not able to keep the RadioButton Checked. How shall this be done?

  • ASP.NET resseting SessionID cookie when cookie expiration date is set

    - by Sergej Andrejev
    I have two pages: Default.aspx and WebForm1.aspx. One of these pages stores a session variable which works fine until I add code which ads expiration date to SessionID cookie. What happens is: Open default.aspx Set-Cookie ASP.NET_SessionId=14jhsdfq23jkh13jkh12k1; expires=Fri, 19-Mar-2010 07:31:47 GMT; path=/ Click on link to open WebForm1.aspx No cookies set Click on link to open Default.aspx (Cookie is reset) Set-Cookie ASP.NET_SessionId=; expires=Fri, 19-Mar-2010 07:31:47 GMT; path=/ So the question would be how should I set SessionID cookie expiration date correctly? Default.aspx.cs using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Web; using System.Web.UI; using System.Web.UI.WebControls; namespace WebApplication1 { public partial class _Default : System.Web.UI.Page { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { lnk.Click += new EventHandler(lnk_Click); Session["t"] = Guid.NewGuid(); Response.Cookies["ASP.NET_SessionId"].Expires = DateTime.Now.AddDays(2); } void lnk_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { Response.Redirect("WebForm1.aspx"); } } } Default.aspx <%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="Default.aspx.cs" Inherits="WebApplication1._Default" %> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" > <head runat="server"> <title></title> </head> <body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <div> <asp:LinkButton runat="server" ID="lnk" Text=">>>" /> </div> </form> </body> </html> WebForm1.aspx.cs using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Web; using System.Web.UI; using System.Web.UI.WebControls; namespace WebApplication1 { public partial class WebForm1 : System.Web.UI.Page { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { lnk.Click += new EventHandler(lnk_Click); } void lnk_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { Response.Redirect("Default.aspx"); } } } WebForm1.aspx <%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="WebForm1.aspx.cs" Inherits="WebApplication1.WebForm1" %> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" > <head runat="server"> <title></title> </head> <body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <div> <asp:LinkButton runat="server" ID="lnk" Text=">>>" /> </div> </form> </body> </html>

  • Handling Model Inheritance in ASP.NET MVC2 & NHibernate

    - by enth
I've gotten myself stuck on how to handle inheritance in my model when it comes to my controllers/views. Basic Model: public class Procedure : Entity { public Procedure() { } public int Id { get; set; } public DateTime ProcedureDate { get; set; } public ProcedureType Type { get; set; } } public ProcedureA : Procedure { public double VariableA { get; set; } public int VariableB { get; set; } public int Total { get; set; } } public ProcedureB : Procedure { public int Score { get; set; } } etc... many of different procedures eventually. So, I do things like list all the procedures: public class ProcedureController : Controller { public virtual ActionResult List() { IEnumerable<Procedure> procedures = _repository.GetAll(); return View(procedures); } } but now I'm kinda stuck. Basically, from the list page, I need to link to pages where the specific subclass details can be viewed/edited and I'm not sure what the best strategy is. I thought I could add an action on the ProcedureController that would conjure up the right subclass by dynamically figuring out what repository to use and loading the subclass to pass to the view. I had to store the class in the ProcedureType object. I had to create/implement a non-generic IRepository since I can't dynamically cast to a generic one. public virtual ActionResult Details(int procedureID) { Procedure procedure = _repository.GetById(procedureID, false); string className = procedure.Type.Class; Type type = Type.GetType(className, true); Type repositoryType = typeof (IRepository<>).MakeGenericType(type); var repository = (IRepository)DependencyRegistrar.Resolve(repositoryType); Entity procedure = repository.GetById(procedureID, false); return View(procedure); } I haven't even started sorting out how the view is going to determine which partial to load to display the subclass details. I'm wondering if this is a good approach? This makes determining the URL easy. It makes reusing the Procedure display code easy. Another approach is specific controllers for each subclass. It simplifies the controller code, but also means many simple controllers for the many procedure subclasses. Can work out the shared Procedure details with a partial view. How to get to construct the URL to get to the controller/action in the first place? Time to not think about it. Hopefully someone can show me the light. Thanks in advance.

  • Recommend .NET data access layer/middle tier

    - by Simon G
Hi, I'm currently creating an MVC application that will likely to expand to include a silverlight, wpf and possible windows phone all using the same data. So I've created a class library to keep all my objects in and I've created the MVC app. My question is what would be the best way to access the data? Taking into account possible expansion in the future. Should I use web services/WCF? RIA Services? Remoting? Or something else. What have people used in the past and what do you recommend? Thanks

  • jquery Fullcalendar : dynamic events function asp.net mvc

    - by Eran
Hi, I'm integrating Fullcalendar into my app. Consider a manager interface where he can select an employee and then view this employee's calendar. Now basically I'm using the following jquery code in my view: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { $("#calendar").fullCalendar({ defaultView: 'agendaWeek', isRTL: true, axisFormat: 'HH:mm', editable: true, events: "/Scheduler/CalendarData" }); }); </script> Now I would like to have the controller function assigned to the events to retrieve the specific user selected by the manager: events: "/Scheduler/CalendarData/<current_user_name> Is there any way to retrieve the selected employee user name from the view (or rather pass it to the view from the controler) and then pass it onto the bound events function? I hope I was clear enough... Thanks in Advance, Eran

Then Sys.Data is undefined So I added http://ajax.microsoft.com/ajax/act/40412/MicrosoftAjaxDataContext.debug.js. But then TypeError: Sys.Data.OpenDataContext is not a constructor What shall I do to be able to call the service the way they do it on the first link? What are the scripts and resources needed? Thanks a lot.

  • Enumerating .NET assembly resources at runtime

    - by Alex_P
I have a resource assembly with image files in it that are built using Resource or Content build action. This makes these files accessible using the Uris. However I cannot find the way to enumerate such resources. If I set the build action to Embedded Resource it becomes possible to enumerate the files with the following code: string[] resources = Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetManifestResourceNames(); but it in turn makes these files inaccessible using Uris. The question is - how to enumerate resources that are compiled with either Resource or Content build action? NOTE: As Thomas Levesque pointed out it is possible to enumerate such resources by leveraging the AssemblyAssociatedContentFileAttribute, but it seems to only work for WPF Application assemblies and not for class library ones. So the question is still open.

  • .NET ThreadPool QueueUserWorkItem Synchronization

    - by ikurtz
I am employing ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem to play some sound files and not hanging up the GUI while doing so. It is working but has an undesirable side effect. While the QueueUserWorkItem CallBack Proc is being executed there is nothing to stop it from starting a new thread. This causes the samples in the threads to overlap. How can I make it so that it waits for the already running thread to finish running and only then run the next request? EDIT: I did: Thread t = new Thread(FireAttackProc(fireResult)); t.Start(); but it gave me some errors. How do I specify a thread method with parameters?

  • C# .NET: Ascending comparison of a SortedDictionary?

    - by Rosarch
I'm want a IDictionary<float, foo> that returns the larges values of the key first. private IDictionary<float, foo> layers = new SortedDictionary<float, foo>(new AscendingComparer<float>()); class AscendingComparer<T> : IComparer<T> where T : IComparable<T> { public int Compare(T x, T y) { return -y.CompareTo(x); } } However, this returns values in order of the smallest first. I feel like I'm making a stupid mistake here. Just to see what would happen, I removed the - sign from the comparator: public int Compare(T x, T y) { return y.CompareTo(x); } But I got the same result. This reinforces my intuition that I'm making a stupid error.

  • Some questions about slugs in ASP.NET MVC content system

    - by mare
In my application I'm currently using forms which allow to enter Title and Slug fields. Now I've been struggling with the slugs thing for a while because I can never decide once and for all how to handle them. 1) Make Title and Slug indenpendent Should I allow users to enter both Title and Slug separetely? This is what I had first. I also had an option that if user did not enter the Slug it was derived from the Title. If both were enter, the Slug field took precedence. 2) Derive Slug from Title, when content is inserted that's it for the Slug, no more changes Then, I switched to only Title field and derive Slug from title. While doing it I found out that now I have to change all the forms that allowed user to enter a slug. This way of doing it also prevents users to change Slugs - they can change the Title but it has no effect on the Slug. You can think of it like Slug is uniqued ID. 3) Now I'm thinking again of allowing users to change slug Though I don't think it is all that useful. How many times does the content that someone already added, spent time on writing it, even require a change of either Title or slug? I don't think it is that many times. The biggest problem with the 3rd option is that If I use Slugs as IDs, I need to update the reference all over the place when Slug changes. Or maintain a table that would contain somekind of Slug history. What are you thoughts on these, I hope, valid questions?
