• Write to the second line of a PHP file

  I have a php file that I want to add an include path to on the second line. I need to open the file and inset a line of code on line 2. I have tried a few techniques none of which are working but I think it has something to do with the text I am trying to write and possibly not escaping character correctly as I am not too familiar with file writing. So here is the file I want to write to: $file = $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'].'/'.$domaindir.'/test.php'; Here is the piece of text I want to insert into the file: $dbfile = "include('".$_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT']."/".$domaindir."/web_".$dbname.".inc.php');"; Then what I was doing was a string replace but all it did was bump the "session_start();" bit to a newline! Can anyone point me in the direction of a tutorial that might tell me how to insert this into the second line of my php file or indeed if anyone has any ideas? I can say for sure that the path to the PHP file is fully tested so i know its not that the file is not being open or written to. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

• Free cross-platform library to convert numbers (money amounts) to words?

  I'm looking for cross-platform library which I can use in my C application to convert money amounts (e.g. $123.50) to words (one hundred twenty three dollars and fifty cents). I need support for multiple currencies: dollars, euros, UK pounds etc. Although I understand this is not hard at all to write my own implementation, but I'd like to avoid reinventing wheel. I've tried to google it, but there is too much noise related to MS Word converters. Can anybody suggest something? UPDATE numerous comments suggest to write my own implementation because it's really easy task. And I agree. My point was about support of multiple currencies in the same time and different business rules to spell the amounts (should be fractional part written as text or numbers? etc.) As I understand serious business applications have such library inside, but I think there is nothing open-source available, maybe because it seems as very easy task. I'm going to write my own libary and then open-source it. Thanks to all.

• uploading database file in assets not returning a record

  I have a problem with a database file not being read I have added the database file in assets called mydb but when i run my code it says its not being located. • Please help me optimize my Python code

  Beginner here! Forgive me in advance for raising what is probably an incredibly simple problem. I've been trying to put together a Python script that runs multiple find-and-replace actions and a few similar things on a specified plain-text file. It works, but from a programming perspective I doubt it works well. How would I best go about optimizing the actions made upon the 'outtext' variable? • Efficient and accurate way to compact and compare Python lists?

  Hi folks, I'm trying to a somewhat sophisticated diff between individual rows in two CSV files. I need to ensure that a row from one file does not appear in the other file, but I am given no guarantee of the order of the rows in either file. As a starting point, I've been trying to compare the hashes of the string representations of the rows (i.e. Python lists). For example: import csv hashes = [] for row in csv.reader(open('old.csv','rb')): hashes.append( hash(str(row)) ) for row in csv.reader(open('new.csv','rb')): if hash(str(row)) not in hashes: print 'Not found' But this is failing miserably. I am constrained by artificially imposed memory limits that I cannot change, and thusly I went with the hashes instead of storing and comparing the lists directly. Some of the files I am comparing can be hundreds of megabytes in size. Any ideas for a way to accurately compress Python lists so that they can be compared in terms of simple equality to other lists? I.e. a hashing system that actually works? Bonus points: why didn't the above method work?

• Optimize SQL connection?

  I am building a multi-page web project in HTML and Javascript that is constantly reading from AND writing to an SQL database. I can connect to the database and successfully run my project with this type of connection. var connection = new ActiveXObject("ADODB.Connection") ; var connectionstring="Data Source=<server>;Initial Catalog=<catalog>;User ID=<user>; Password=<password>;Provider=SQLOLEDB"; connection.Open(connectionstring); var rs = new ActiveXObject("ADODB.Recordset"); rs.Open("SELECT * FROM table", connection); rs.MoveFirst while(!rs.eof) { document.write(rs.fields(1)); rs.movenext; } rs.close; connection.close; Works great and runs fine. BUT, the first 5 lines (from var connection = to var rs =) causes the whole browser to freeze for a few seconds while it establishes the connection. I need to speed that up since I am constantly connecting to the database throughout my project. Is there a more effective way of connecting to a SQL database? or is my computer just bad and this should run faster?

• Creating a OS X Cocoa App Web View in Xcode 5.0.1

  I created a HTML5 web app that I’m trying to wrap in a web view and submit to the Mac App Store. I’ve done the following: 1) Opened Xcode 5.0.1 and selected “Create a new Xcode project” 2) Under “OS X” I selected “Application” then I selected “Cocoa Application” then “Next” 3) I entered a “Product Name” and a “Company Identifier” then selected “Next” (I left all the other settings untouched) then “Create” 4) Under “General” “Deployment Info” “Deployment Target” I selected 10.6 — because I want the app to be compatible with all versions of OS X that support the Mac App Store 5) I clicked “MainMenu.xib” and selected “Window - My App” 6) From the “Object library” I drug the “Web View” object into my window and made it fill the window size 7) I saved my project and click the Play button in the upper left corner of Xcode The app tries to open but freezes. I don’t get an error in Xcode but it does open “main.m” and highlight “return NSApplicationMain(argc, argv);” in green and says “Thread 1: signal SIGABRT” I was hoping that someone could clarify why this isn’t working? And provide me with the last step to link the web view object? I searched Google and found tutorials for iOS and a few for OS X but for different versions of Xcode.

• Custom API requirement

  We are currently working on an API for an existing system. It basically wraps some web-requests as an easy-to-use library that 3rd party companies should be able to use with our product. As part of the API, there is an event mechanism where the server can call back to the client via a constantly-running socket connection. To minimize load on the server, we want to only have one connection per computer. Currently there is a socket open per process, and that could eventually cause load problems if you had multiple applications using the API. So my question is: if we want to deploy our API as a single standalone assembly, what is the best way to fix our problem? A couple options we thought of: Write an out of process COM object (don't know if that works in .Net) Include a second exe file that would be required for events, it would have to single-instance itself, and open a named pipe or something to communicate through multiple processes Extract this exe file from an embedded resource and execute it None of those really seem ideal. Any better ideas?

  Intro rant Hey all, so after just over a year of browsing I decided it's time to ask a question for myself, it's sadly similar to many that have been asked before. I'm 18, am studying towards a BSc in Comp SCi and have been programming 'on and off' for about 6 years now, after wrestling with C++ for a bit then stumbling upon (and reading cover to cover) "Programming: Principles and Practice Using C++" by the great man himself I feel pretty comfortable with C++, I am almost finished writing my first open source program in C++ (a mediawiki parser, http://code.google.com/p/apertium-mediawiki/). I have decided I want to really get to know the power of C++, get familiar with some of its 'darker' corners and also delve into game programming, at this point I am rather keen on the book "Essential 3D Game Programming: with C++ and OpenGL" (released 24 may '10), I would also like to get 1 or 2 other books on 'general C++' that I can read cover to cover during my spare time. At this point I am pretty open to suggestions I would like something in the intermediate/advanced zone, some books I am rather keen on include: The C++ Standard Library: A tutorial and reference, C++ Template, the complete guide, and Modern C++ Design: Generic Programming and Design Patterns Applied Thanks in advance.

• EGODatabase does not retain inserted record

When I tried to insert data into the database which I created with Base and attached to the project, the data that was inserted programmatically will not show up when I restart my app.However the data inserted manually using Base will show up just fine. My user wants the page to display the columns of data in a different order than they come in from the database. Is there an easy and safe way to re-order the columns in an ADO recordset? I did not write this page and cannot change the SP. What is the minimum change I can make here to get the job done and not risk screwing up all the other stuff in the page? • jQuery logic firing twice from a Usercontrol when used in a jQueryUI modal dialog

  I have an asp.net usercontrol that I'm using to put a bunch of HTML and Jquery logic into to be shared on several pages. This usercontrol has some dropdown boxes loaded from json calls and has no added codebehind logic. When I use this usercontrol on a normal page it works perfectly fine, and no issues at all. However, when I wrap the usercontrol in a div, and use a jqueryUI modal dialog, everything in the usercontrol fires twice. Not only code in the initial $(document).ready(function() {});, but also every function is also fired twice when called. Debugging this in Visual Studio, I see that everything is first being called from the external JS file, and then again from a "script block" file that is somehow getting generated on the fly. This script block file isn't getting generated on a page that doesn't wrap the user control in a modal. The same happens if I use IISExpress or IIS7. The question is, why is this script block file getting created, and why is all my jQuery logic firing twice? --edit-- Here is the div: <div id="divMyDiv" title="MyDiv"> <uc1:MyUserControl runat="server" ID="MyUsercontrol" /> </div> Here is the modal logic that uses it: $("#divMyDiv").dialog({ autoOpen: false, height: 400, width: 400, modal: true, open: function (type, data) { $(this).parent().appendTo("form"); } }); Note: The problm still occurs, even if I remove the "open:" function. But, it does not occur if I remove the entire dialog block, so it is specific to this dialog call.

  I tried my hand at this Google Codejam Africa problem (the contest is already finished, I just did it to improve my programming skills). The Problem: You are hosting a party with G guests and notice that there is an odd number of guests! When planning the party you deliberately invited only couples and gave each couple a unique number C on their invitation. You would like to single out whoever came alone by asking all of the guests for their invitation numbers. The Input: The first line of input gives the number of cases, N. N test cases follow. For each test case there will be: One line containing the value G the number of guests. One line containing a space-separated list of G integers. Each integer C indicates the invitation code of a guest. Output For each test case, output one line containing "Case #x: " followed by the number C of the guest who is alone. The Limits: 1 = N = 50 0 < C = 2147483647 Small dataset 3 = G < 100 Large dataset 3 = G < 1000 Sample Input: 3 3 1 2147483647 2147483647 5 3 4 7 4 3 5 2 10 2 10 5 Sample Output: Case #1: 1 Case #2: 7 Case #3: 5 This is the solution that I came up with: with open('A-large-practice.in') as f: lines = f.readlines() with open('A-large-practice.out', 'w') as output: N = int(lines[0]) for testcase, i in enumerate(range(1,2*N,2)): G = int(lines[i]) for guest in range(G): codes = map(int, lines[i+1].split(' ')) alone = (c for c in codes if codes.count(c)==1) output.write("Case #%d: %d\n" % (testcase+1, alone.next())) It runs in 12 seconds on my machine with the large input.   I'm running MOSS 2007 and have created a new site under an existing one using sitemanager.aspx. I've done this on two machines. on one of those everything works correctly, while on the other some of the menu items for pages in the site seem to be gone. Also on the faulty site I get "Access denied" when I click "Version history". The permissions on both sites should be the same. I attach a screenshot of how the menus differ from each other. The one to the right (the faulty one) is unfortunately not in English but the items appearing on it are "Open link in a new window", "Copy", "Edit page settings" and "Version history". • Chrome.tabs.getSelected() doesn't work. What am I doing wrong ?

  Hi there ! I'm building my first GC extension, and I am having a problem using this function. I would like to get the url of the current tab, and to do so (after some google research, of course), I use the chrome.tabs.getSelected() function. Here it is in my code : ... socket.onopen = function(msg){ log("Welcome - status " + this.readyState); chrome.tabs.getSelected(null, function(tab){ sendUrl(tab.url); }); }; function sendUrl(tabUrl) { socket.send("#URL#"+ tabUrl); } The socket.open is a listener for the Websocket API I use in my extension. The log function print the status of the socket (1, which means it's OPEN or connected and ready to communicate, according to the Websocket API), but the chrome.tabs.getSelected() function do not seems to work, as the server do not receive anything (the socket is not the problem here, I tried to send a test message with socket.send() instead of chrome.tabs.getSelected() and the server received it). I put the permissions: ["tabs"] into the manifest.json so I can use this function. So I don't know what I am doing wrong here ? I also tried to put chrome.tab.getSelected() elsewhere in the code, but it is still not working. Any help is welcome :)

Now, I need to write to it from the server side and this element must be created before it is posted back. How do I get the javascript to execute before the postback? Currently, I have to press the button twice because the element doesn't exist to write too on the first click. To be clear, I need this to execute before the "OnClick" of the button. Update: It looks like the Javascript function is called before the postback but the element is not updated until I run the second postback. Hmm Update: Unfortunately it is a bit more complicated then this. I'm creating a div tag in javascript to open a new window. Inside the div tag, I'm using a databinding syntax <%=Preview% so that I can get access to this element on the server side. From the server side, I'm injecting the code. I'm thinking this may be a chicken-egg problem but not sure. UPDATE! It is not the Javascript not running first. It is the databinding mechanism which is reading the blank variable before I'm able to set it. Hmm

  This is a strange question, I've never tried to do this before. I have a repetitive process requiring that I copy and paste data from text boxes in one program into another program for further processing. I'd like to automate this process using VB .NET. The application from which the data is gathered isn't mine, so I don't have ActiveX-like access to its controls. How would you write an application to gain access to a form from another application, to be able to find the controls on the form, and gather the values from them? Just experimenting, I've used the following code. This resulted in only the name of the form to which this code belongs. It didn't find the names of any other forms I have open, and I have a lot open to choose from. This is frustrating because it's only step one of what I'll need to do to make my life easier... • How to structure code with 2 methods, one after another, which throw the same two exceptions?

  Hi, I have two methods, one called straight after another, which both throw the exact same 2 exceptions (IF an erroneous condition occurs, not stating that I'm getting exceptions). For this, should I write seperate try and catch blocks with the one statement in each try block and catch both exceptions (Both of which I can handle as I checked MSDN class library reference and there is something I can do, eg, re-open SqlConnection or run a query and not a stored proc which does not exist). So code like this: try { obj.Open(); } catch (SqlException) { // Take action here. } catch (InvalidOperationException) { // Take action here. } And likewise for the other method I call straight after. This seems like a very messy way of coding. The other way is to code with the exception variable (that is ommited as I am using AOP to log the exception details, using a class-level attribute). Doing this, this could aid me in finding out which method caused an exception and then taking action accordingly. Is this the best approach or is there another best practise altogether? I also assume that, as only these two methods are thrown, I do not need to catch Exception as that would be for an exception I cannot handle (causes way out of my control). Thanks

• Upload .txt and keep formating

  I have been trying to upload a .txt to my server via a simple php script I made. Everything seems to uploaded correctly, if I open the .txt in Dreamweaver I can see all the formatting is still in tact with spaces and paragraph breaks. The problem I have is when I try to open that file with PHP and import the contents onto my site. I'm not using an editor right now, just a simple div where the contents are echoed. I don't have much experience with uploading/downloading using PHP. Am I not using a command to handle the file contents and keep the initial formatting? In the end I want the user to upload a file, and have PHP read the file and extract certain elements from it based on the number of spaces between paragraph breaks and such. I was able to actually echo the .txt using URLENCODE() which kept the formatting and made all my spaces +'s. Thats the closes I got, but the original file isn't uploaded in the format so I can't do a count for +'s and select x characters after the last +. Hmmm, if someone knows of a script already available that can do this or similar to with me just tweaking that would be awesome.
