  • Different versions in manifest on different machines

    - by Terry777
Hi guys, Have two machines, both with VS2005 SP1 installed and with the WinSXS showing the same things installed. When one machine builds a particular C++ .dll .vcproj it ends up with <assemblyIdentity type='win32' name='Microsoft.VC80.MFC' version='8.0.50727.762' processorArchitecture='x86' publicKeyToken='1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b' /> in its manifest file. But on the other machine it ends up with <assemblyIdentity type='win32' name='Microsoft.VC80.MFC' version='8.0.50608.0 processorArchitecture='x86' publicKeyToken='1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b' /> even though this machine does not have '8.0.50608.0' libraries listed in its WinSXS. The .dll built on this machine with the older version referenced has some problems. I have ensured both machines have the same latest source code and references etc.. What could be causing it to build with the different reference? Thanks! Terry

  • How can I get gradients working in IE9?

    - by gladoscc
    CSS: .silver { color: #636363; border: solid 1px #9C9C9C; background: #D6D6D6; /*important part*/ background: -webkit-gradient(linear, left top, left bottom, from(#E8E8E8), to(#BABABA)); background: -moz-linear-gradient(top, #E8E8E8, #BABABA); -ms-filter: "progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(startColorstr='#e8e8e8', endColorstr='#bababa')"; filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(startColorstr='#e8e8e8', endColorstr='#bababa'); padding: 2px 5px 2px 5px; -webkit-border-radius: 5px; -moz-border-radius: 5px; border-radius: 5px; margin-right: 5px; font-size: 95%; } This works when I apply to class to a input / submit button, but the gradients do not display when I apply the class to a span or div. How can I get gradients working in IE9?

  • C# Get video file duration from metadata

    - by Rekreativc
I am trying to read metadata from a file. I only need the Video - Length property, however I am unable to find a simple way of reading this information. I figured this would be fairly easy since it is visible by default in Explorer, however this looks to be way more complicated than I anticipated. The closest I came was using: Microsoft.DirectX.AudioVideoPlayback.Video video = new Microsoft.DirectX.AudioVideoPlayback.Video(str); double duration = video.Duration; However this throws a LoaderLock exception, and I don't know how to deal with it. Any ideas?

  • Detecting the Loopback Adapter

    - by BlueSkies
What is the best way for detecting whether a network interface is a loopback adapter? The windows API's GetAdaptersInfo and GetAdaptersAddresses state in the documentation that they will return whether an interface is a loopback through the Type (MIB_IF_TYPE_LOOPBACK) but neither of these do for the Microsoft Loopback Adapter at least, it is reported as a standard ethernet interface. I could try checking for the default MAC of the Loopback adapter but this can be easily spoofed. I could check for the name "Microsoft Loopback Adapter" in the description but this may have translation issues and may lead to other issues. IP addresses can also be changed. What is the most robust method for doing this?

  • Reusing Session ID

    - by lockedscope
I am confused with the following sentence(with bold) from Microsoft about Session IDs. It seems to say the obvious, if we reuse a valid Session ID then we do not need to create a new Session ID. Am i missing something? What is reusing in this context? Using the Session ID as an identifier in database or etc is reusing or what? Therefore, you can reuse session IDs for several reasons. For example, if you reuse session IDs, you do not have to do the following: Create a new cryptographically unique session ID when you are presented with a valid session ID. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=899918

  • How to determine the date that Office 2003 was installed

    - by GalleySlave
Is there any guaranteed way of determining the date that Office 2003 (and .Net Framework v2.0) were installed on a client computer? I am trying to nail down a problem which I think is due to the order that the .Net Framework and Office 2003 were installed in, so I need a way I can get a client to have a look at their machine (preferably the file system) and let me know. It may require admin privileges (or Registry etc) which wouldn't be a problem but not the preferred solution. It appears that the folders under Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11 have a number with the same date which at first sight appear to be an installation date / time. Likewise in Windows\Microsoft.Net\Framework\v2.0.50727 there are two with the same date, but this seems less certain. I could use WMI with a winmgmts:object and SELECT * FROM Win32_Product, but was wondering if there was a 'telephone' way to do it!

    - by Alan
I am writing a c# application which references a separate dll which contains all the automation features i am trying to implement such as Application Object Model, doing all this by using delegates and events. What i want to be able todo is to reference my dll containing the application object model in a different process and for it to automatically launch my application, like MS-Word does when you call its application. Example: Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.Application wordApp = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.Application(); Word object model loads in the WinWord.exe running its own process how can i achieve this as well. Thanks in advance

  • Data validation between SQL replicated tables

    - by Vikram
Hi All, I am trying to figure out a way to validate the data in my publisher and subscriber in SQL 2005 replication. I thought of using sp_publication_validation, but it needs db_owner permission and we are not allowed to have it in our company. So I did bit more reading and found out about two other SPs that I think work for me. First one is sp_article_validation, which I plan to run on the publisher. For each article that I call this SP, its gonna give the row count and a checksum. With that info, I intend to call sp_table_validation on the subscriber, passing the row count and checksum from the previous SP, there by validating both tables. What do you guys think? Is this a proven way to validate data in replication? There is very little documentation on these SPs. Here is the link: sp_table_validation - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa239370(v=sql.80).aspx sp_article_validation - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms177511(v=SQL.90).aspx Thanks for

  • No More Boxes! Exploring the PathListBox (Silverlight TV #25)

In this video, Adam Kinney explains what the PathListBox is and why it is so compelling. Then, he demonstrates several ways of using it in creative examples. The PathListBox is one of the newest features available in Expression Blend and Silverlight 4. It redefines how users look at lists of data as it breaks the mold of a list "box" and opens the possibilities to use any shape or path. Don't miss this episode and be sure to download Adam's sample code. Relevant links: John's Blog...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • Updating .net 4.0 machine.config seems to have no effect

    - by Jon P
I'm feeling stupid. I've just created my first ASP.net 4.0 site after working my way though over the years from 1.1 upwards. We have several settings at the machine.config level that I need to migrate to the new 4.0 machine.config. I though I had be adding the required connection strings to the connection string section of the following two files: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\machine.config C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\machine.config When I created a new website in IIS and assigned it to the ASP.net 4.0 Application pool I only get the default LocalSqlServer connection string. I tried editing the name of this in the two files above to indicate which file it was in, but there was no change. Are there machine.config files in other locations I should be looking at?

  • Visual Studio 2008 XML Documentation

    - by Pablo
Hello, I can't seem to find the "Build" option under "Configuration Properties" folder in the Property Pages of my project. I've been looking everywhere trying to figure out how to do it. I followed the direations here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc302121.aspx More specifically here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azt1z1eh.aspx ("To build the XML Documentation sample within Visual Studio" section) I want to generate XML comments for my project in the build, but my "Configuration Properties" window does not have "folders" or a "Build" option under it. I'm using Visual Studio Team System 2008, any ideas? EDIT - This is a website [project-less] and it is written in both C# and VB.NET. Do I need to download any tools? I found GhostDoc but that's not helping me very much.

  • VB6 lives forever like Cobol

    - by Kb
In the last 3-5 years I have been renewing an insurance application and a commmercial integration toolkit based on vb6. According to Microsoft's "It just works policy" the IDE is no longer supported after april 8th 2008 It still works to develop and deploy vb 6 apps. The question is: When will it be impossible to support vb6 applications, or will they live forever like Cobol applications do? Update: Microsoft statement march 2010: The Visual Basic team is committed to “It Just Works” compatibility for Visual Basic 6.0 applications on Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 including R2, and Windows 7.

  • Problem using OLEDBCOMMANDBUILDER.

    - by Lullly
So, here it goes: I need to copy data from table in access database, in another table from another access database. Column names from tables are the same, except the fact that the FROM table has 5 columns, the TO table has 6. here is my code: dsFrom.Clear() dsTO.Clear() daFrom = Nothing daTO = Nothing conn_string1 = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source="etc.mdb;" conn_string2 = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source="database.mdb;" query1 = "Select * from nomenclator_produse" query2 = "Select * from nomenclator_produse" Conn1 = New OleDbConnection(conn_string1) conn2 = New OleDbConnection(conn_string2) Conn1.Open() conn2.Open() daFrom = New OleDbDataAdapter(query1, Conn1) daTO = New OleDbDataAdapter(query2, conn2) daFrom.AcceptChangesDuringFill = False dsFrom.HasChanges() daFrom.Fill(dsFrom, "nomenclator_Produse") dsFrom.HasChanges() Dim cb = New OleDbCommandBuilder(daFrom) dsTO = dsFrom.Copy daTO.UpdateCommand = cb.GetUpdateCommand daTO.InsertCommand = cb.GetInsertCommand daTO.Update(dsTO, "nomenclator_produse") Because the FROM table has 5 rows and the other has 6, i'm trying to use the InsertCommand generated by the DataAdapter of the first table. It works, only that it inserts the data from the FROMTABLE in the same FROMTABLE, instead of TOTABLE. :| please help me :(

  • Double equals (Not equality) during assigning Java

    - by FabianCook
When I tried searching this I would just get things on equality. When I was reading through some documentation for navigation in Android I had come across something I had never seen before. I came across this: mTitle = mDrawerTitle = getTitle(); It almost looks like something you can do in JavaScript where you can take the first not-null variable and assign it to a variable. In JavaScript I would do this: mTitle = mDrawerTitle || getTitle(); And it would return the first not null, in Java, is this double equals usage the equivalent in Java? What is this type of expression called?

  • Word filter that groups words?

    - by Legend
Is there any library that achieves the following: Convert Microsoft Windows 98 Microsoft Windows XP Windows 7 Windows Ultimate Desktop Windows to Windows 4 The complicated part here is to recognize that "Desktop Windows" is an anomaly here and not count it. If nothing is added before the word "Windows", perhaps it can be counted but if there is something else and the suffix does not match any popular suffix, it can still be counted. Maybe I am a little vague here but perhaps someone could have an idea about what I am talking about here. Any suggestions?

  • explain this macro

    - by deostroll
#define __T(x) L ## x Found in code from one of the MFC source header file. It is mostly used for converting strings to ........ (I don't know what). If I am correct it converts strings to LPCTSTR...don't know what that type is either... I can't seem to convert char* into LPCTSTR. While MFC file handling, the following code will always return error while trying to open the file... char* filepath = "C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Office\\Office12\\BITMAPS\\STYLES\\GLOBE.WMF"; if( !file.Open((LPCTSTR)filepath , CFile::modeRead, &fexp) ) { fexp.ReportError(); return 1; } But instead if I wrote it this way, it doesn't give error: if( !file.Open( _T("C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Office\\Office12\\BITMAPS\\STYLES\\GLOBE.WMF") , CFile::modeRead, &fexp) ) { fexp.ReportError(); return 1; } I am looking at passing a variable as the first argument to the CFile::Open() method.

  • Multiple Inheritance Debates II: according to Stroustrup

    - by asksuperuser
I know very well about the traditional arguments about why Interface Inheritance is prefered to multiple inheritance, there has been already a post here : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/191691/should-c-include-multiple-inheritance But according to Stroustrup the real reason why Microsoft and Sun decided to get rid off multiple inheritance is that they have vested interest to do so: instead of putting features in the languages, they put in frameworks so that people then become tied to their platform instead of people having the same capability at a language standard level. What do you think ? Why Sun and Microsoft consider developers too immature to just make the choice themselves ?

  • VC++ to C# migration guidelines/approaches/Issues

    - by KSH
Hi all, We are planning to move few of our VC++ Legacy products to C# with .NET platform.. I am in the process of collecting the relavent information before making the proposal to give optimistic and effective approach to clients. Am looking for the following details. Any general guidelines in migration of VC++ to C#.NET What are the issues that a team can face when we take up this activity Are there any existing approaches available ? I believe many might have tried but may not have detailed information, but consolidating this under this would help not only me but anyone who look for these information. Any good / valid resources available on internet? Any suggestions from Microsoft team if any Microsoft people in this group? Architecture, components design approaches, etc. Please help me in getting these information, each penny would help me to gain good understanding.. Thanks in advance to those who will share their wisdom thorough this query.
