• MissingMethodException thrown when calling new form in Compact Framework

  I'm updating an old mobile device application for better flexibility. I had basically added the ability to configure the address of our SQL server in the case that we want to use our test server as opposed to our production server. I don't think this is causing the problem, but I wanted to state it. I also upgraded the project from a VS 2000 project to a VS 2005 project. The issue I am having is that when I try to run the program in the VS emulator for Pocket PC, I get an error. It occurs after our "main menu" form loads and the user selects the next form to load. The form is initialized without issue, but when we try to run the .ShowDialog() method, it throws a System.MissingMethodException. I don't have a lot of experience with the Compact Framework and really have no idea where to start looking for problems. I stepped the debugger through the entire initializing process for the new form and it ran without issue. But, again, when we come to the ShowDialog call, it throws the error. Any ideas in where to start looking or known issues would be greatly appreciated.

• Why does the MSCVRT library generate conflicts at link time?

  I am building a project in Visual C++ 2008, which is an example MFC-based app for a static C++ class library I will be using in my own project soon. While building the Debug configuration, I get the following: warning LNK4098: defaultlib 'MSVCRT' conflicts with use of other libs; use /NODEFAULTLIB:library After using the recommended option (by adding "msvcrt" to the "Ignore specific library" field in the project linker settings for the Debug configuration), the program links and runs fine. However, I'd like to find out why this conflict occured, why do I have to ignore a critical library, and if I'm to expect problems later I if add the ignore, or what happens if I don't (because the program builds anyway). At the same time, the Release configuration warns: warning LNK4075: ignoring '/EDITANDCONTINUE' due to '/OPT:ICF' specification warning LNK4098: defaultlib 'MSVCRTD' conflicts with use of other libs; use /NODEFAULTLIB:library I'm guessing that the "D" suffix means this is the debug version of the vc++ runtime, no idea why this gets used this time. Anyway, adding "msvcrtd" to the ignore field causes lots of link errors of the form: error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol imp_CrtDbgReportW Any insight greatly appreciated.

• JBoss Developer Studio exploaded SAR/EAR/WAR deployment

  I am new to JBoss DS and I could not figur out is how to make a folder from my project deployable, exploded SAR in my case. If I create a new server in the JBoss server view / JBoss AS perspective and select a SAR and make it a deployable then the SAR file can be deployed on the JBoss server. Another approch that I have tryed is to make the *-service.xml file as a deployable element, same procedure as with the SAR file, and to add the Eclipse project as a dependency to the classpath of the server 'Open launch configuration' / 'Classpath' after dooing this I got an error from JBoss telling me that the JBoss classes are not found. The compromise solution that I have found is to create a junction/symlink from the output of the Eclipse project 'bin' into the JBoss 'serve//deploy/xxx.sar' this is a temporary solution but will not scale in the future as multiple services must be created. What I would need: I would need to have the ability to make the exploded folder as 'mark deployable' and to be have the classes/*service.xml files loaded from there and to have hot-deployability for them. Any sugestions would help.

• RegAsm for Class Library Used in VB6 Application

  To be short and to the point, I've built a C# class library that is both COM-Visible and Registered for COM Interop. I've compiled the library, which resulted in the generation of .dll and .tlb files. I have another machine that's running a VB6 application. So, I copied the .dll and .tlb files over to C:/Windows/system32 folder on the machine. I then registered those files using the following: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\RegAsm C:\Windows\system32\TestClass.dll /tlb:TestClass.tlb After the files were registered successfully, I added a project reference to the Test.tlb file from inside my VB6 app, then I tried to invoke a method in my new referenced class like so: Dim myObject As TestNamespace.TestClass Set myObject = New TestNamespace.TestClass MsgBox (myObject.TestMethod()) It doesn't work, and I receive a -2147024894 Automation Error. I've read that I shouldn't install the dll into a private folder like system32. I should either be registering in the GAC or I should be registering in another location using the "/codebase" option: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\RegAsm C:\TestClass.dll /tlb:TestClass.tlb /codebase Is there any reason I shouldn't be using system32? Past devs that have worked on this project have placed assembly files used by this VB6 project into system32 and there haven't seemed to be any issues. When I register my dll in the system32 location, I get the Automation Error. When I register my dll in another location (i.e. C:/), the method call into my class library from VB6 works as expected. What gives? I should mention that we will NOT be using the GAC to register any DLL's. That's just the way it is. Any help is appreciated. Mike

  Does anyone know of a C++ data structure library providing functional (a.k.a. immutable, or "persistent" in the FP sense) equivalents of the familiar STL structures? By "functional" I mean that the objects themselves are immutable, while modifications to those objects return new objects sharing the same internals as the parent object where appropriate. Ideally, such a library would resemble STL, and would work well with Boost.Phoenix (caveat- I haven't actually used Phoenix, but as far as I can tell it provides many algorithms but no data structures, unless a lazily-computed change to an existing data structure counts - does it?)

• How do gitignore exclusion rules actually work?

  I'm trying to solve a gitignore problem on a large directory structure, but to simplify my question I have reduced it to the following. I have the following directory structure of two files (foo, bar) in a brand new git repository (no commits so far): a/b/c/foo a/b/c/bar Obviously, a 'git status -u' shows: # Untracked files: ... # a/b/c/bar # a/b/c/foo What I want to do is create a .gitignore file that ignores everything inside a/b/c but does not ignore the file 'foo'. If I create a .gitignore thus: c/ Then a 'git status -u' shows both foo and bar as ignored: # Untracked files: ... # .gitignore Which is as I expect. Now if I add an exclusion rule for foo, thus: c/ !foo According to the gitignore manpage, I'd expect this to to work. But it doesn't - it still ignores foo: # Untracked files: ... # .gitignore This doesn't work either: c/ !a/b/c/foo Neither does this: c/* !foo Gives: # Untracked files: ... # .gitignore # a/b/c/bar # a/b/c/foo In that case, although foo is no longer ignored, bar is also not ignored. The order of the rules in .gitignore doesn't seem to matter either. This also doesn't do what I'd expect: a/b/c/ !a/b/c/foo That one ignores both foo and bar. One situation that does work is if I create the file a/b/c/.gitignore and put in there: * !foo But the problem with this is that eventually there will be other subdirectories under a/b/c and I don't want to have to put a separate .gitignore into every single one - I was hoping to create 'project-based' .gitignore files that can sit in the top directory of each project, and cover all the 'standard' subdirectory structure. This also seems to be equivalent: a/b/c/* !a/b/c/foo This might be the closest thing to "working" that I can achieve, but the full relative paths and explicit exceptions need to be stated, which is going to be a pain if I have a lot of files of name 'foo' in different levels of the subdirectory tree. Anyway, either I don't quite understand how exclusion rules work, or they don't work at all when directories (rather than wildcards) are ignored - by a rule ending in a / Can anyone please shed some light on this? Is there a way to make gitignore use something sensible like regular expressions instead of this clumsy shell-based syntax? I'm using and observe this with git-1.6.6.1 on Cygwin/bash3 and git-1.7.1 on Ubuntu/bash3.

• What is a good dumbed-down, safe template system for PHP?

  (Summary: My users need to be able to edit the structure of their dynamically generated web pages without being able to do any damage.) Greetings, ladies and gentlemen. I am currently working on a service where customers from a specific demographic can create a specific type of web site and fill it with their own content. The system is written in PHP. Many of the users of this system wish to edit how their particular web site looks, or, more commonly, have a designer do it for them. Editing the CSS is fine and dandy, but sometimes that's not enough. Sometimes they want to shuffle the entire page structure around by editing the raw HTML of the dynamically created web pages. The templating system used by WordPress is, as far as I can see, perfect for my use. Except for one thing which is critically important. In addition to being able to edit how comments are displayed or where the menu goes, someone editing a template can have that template execute arbitrary PHP code. As the same codebase runs all these different sites, with all content in the same databse, allowing my users to run arbitrary code is clearly out of the question. So what I need, is a dumbed-down, idiot-proof templating system where my users can edit most of the page structure on their own, pulling in the dynamic sections wherever, without being able to even echo 1+1;. Observe the following psuedocode: <!DOCTYPE html> <title><!-- $title --></title> <!-- header() --> <!-- menu() --> <div>Some random custom crap added by the user.</div> <!-- page_content() --> That's the degree of power I'd like to grant my users. They don't need to do their own loops or calculations or anything. Just include my variables and functions and leave the rest to me. I'm sure I'm not the only person on the planet that needs something like this. Do you know of any ready-made templating systems I could use? Thanks in advance for your reply.

• What is the role/responsibility of a 'shell'?

  Hi, I have been looking at the source code of the IronPython project and the Orchard CMS project. IronPython operates with a namespace called Microsoft.Scripting.Hosting.Shell (part of the DLR). The Orchard Project also operates with the concept of a 'shell' indirectly in various interfaces (IShellContainerFactory, IShellSettings). None of the projects mentioned above have elaborate documentation, so picking up the meaning of a type (class etc.) from its name is pretty valuable if you are trying to figure out the overall application structure/architecture by reading the source code. Now I am wondering: what do the authors of this source code have in mind when they refer to a 'shell'? When I hear the word 'shell', I think of something like a command line interpreter. This makes sense for IronPython, since it has an interactive interpreter. But to me, it doesn't make much sense with respect to a Web CMS. What should I think of, when I encounter something called a 'shell'? What is, in general terms, the role and responsibility of a 'shell'? Can that question even be answered? Is the meaning of 'shell' subjective (making the term useless)? Thanks.

• Linking problems using libcurl with Visual C++ 2005: "unresolved external symbol __imp__curl_easy_se

  Hi, I am planning to use libcurl in my project. I had downloaded the library source,built and integrated it in a small POC application. I am able to build and run the application without any issues with the generated libcurl.dll and libcurl_imp.lib files. Now when I integrate the same library in my project I am getting linker errors. 6foo.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _imp_curl_easy_setopt 6foo.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _imp_curl_easy_perform 6foo.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _imp_curl_easy_cleanup 6foo.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _imp_curl_global_init 6foo.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _imp_curl_easy_init I have researched and tried all manners of workarounds like adding CURL_STATICLIB definitions , additional libraries , changing to /MT even copying the libs to the release directory but nothing seems to work. As far as I can see the only difference between approach #1 and #2 in my steps are #1 is an console application using the libcurl.dll while in my main project this is another dll which is trying to link to libcurl.dll.. Would that necessitate any change in approach? Can I use the same generated multi threaded DLL /MD file for both(Tried /MT also with no success)? Any other ideas? • Requiring library consumers reference additional assembly when using certain types

  I have library code that uses ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib under the hood to make it easy to use ZIP files as data sources when running integration tests. As it stands, if I reference my library from another project, the other project will compile just fine, but when it accesses the code that uses SharpZipLib, I get an exception for it not finding the zip library: failed: System.IO.FileNotFoundException : Could not load file or assembly 'ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib, Version=0.85.5.452, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=1b03e6acf1164f73' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. If the types in my library derived from a class in SharpZipLib, it'd generate a compile error CS0012. What other ways are there for triggering a CS0012, so that using code that requires SharpZipLib (but doesn't clearly indicate it) would cause consumer code to fail compilation? I've had similar problems in the past when I've used libraries like DeftTech.DuckTyping under the hood. I'd add my library code to a new project, start working, compile, run, and then suddenly hit an edge case that I'd used duck typing to get around and get a runtime error. What I'd most like is to have the same behavior as if I'd derived from a type in the 3rd-party library, so that a reference to my derived type generates a CS0012: The type 'type' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'assembly'.

• Problem with grails web app running in production: "No such property: save for class: JsecRole"

  I've got a grails 1.1 web app running great in development but when I try and run it in production with an sqlserver database it crashes in a weird way. • Problem Linking Boost Filesystem Library in Microsoft Visual C++

  Hello. I am having trouble getting my project to link to the Boost (version 1.37.0) Filesystem lib file in Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition. The Filesystem library is not a header-only library. I have been following the Getting Started on Windows guide posted on the official boost web page. Here are the steps I have taken: I used bjam to build the complete set of lib files using: bjam --build-dir="C:\Program Files\boost\build-boost" --toolset=msvc --build-type=complete I copied the /libs directory (located in C:\Program Files\boost\build-boost\boost\bin.v2) to C:\Program Files\boost\boost_1_37_0\libs. In Visual C++, under Project Properties Additional Library Directories I added these paths: C:\Program Files\boost\boost_1_37_0\libs C:\Program Files\boost\boost_1_37_0\libs\filesystem\build\msvc-9.0express\debug\link-static\threading-multi I added the second one out of desperation. It is the exact directory where libboost_system-vc90-mt-gd-1_37.lib resides. In Configuration Properties C/C++ General Additional Include Directories I added the following path: C:\Program Files\boost\boost_1_37_0 Then, to put the icing on the cake, under Tools Options VC++ Directories Library files, I added the same directories mentioned in step 3. Despite all this, when I build my project I get the following error: fatal error LNK1104: cannot open file 'libboost_system-vc90-mt-gd-1_37.lib' Additionally, here is the code that I am attempting to compile as well as a screen shot of the aformentioned directory where the (assumedly correct) lib file resides: #include "boost/filesystem.hpp" // includes all needed Boost.Filesystem declarations #include <iostream> // for std::cout using boost::filesystem; // for ease of tutorial presentation; // a namespace alias is preferred practice in real code using namespace std; int main() { cout << "Hello, world!" << endl; return 0; } Can anyone help me out?   I'm trying to build an application that builds a resource file into a jar, but I'd like to have the project runnable within eclipse. I have a basic maven 2 structure for my project, and I'm unsure how to read in the file such that it's found and used when run from the JAR or from within eclipse. Thought? Structure: src/main/java src/main/resources/file.txt Current reading method: getClass().getResourceAsStream("/file.txt") Is there reading method that will pick up src/main/resources/*, as well as the root level of the JAR (where resources are deployed)?

• Does anyone knows any Train-table-api service?

  Hi guys, im wondering if there is any online service who provide API about the train timetables (arrivals, departure, etch..), at least for the european stations. I know www.bahn.de, who provide the accurated timetables for many european countries, but i didin't find any similar to a api service. My goal (well, just a future-project) is to develope an application like gmaps, but instead of giving the car-trip i would like to give the train-trip.. you know, the user set the departure day, time and station, then the first arrival, maybe then add another one, and so on. So, there is something like, that can be queryed by php/python/javascript? Edit: if can help, im wondering to build a service to plan an inter-rail trip! (and any help will be really appreciate) Im stuck. Google's public-service api rely on the information that every local company makes avaiable, much branches are missing (for example, is almost impossible to use it to build an itinerary that touches two or more regions of Europe. As i said before, the only service that i know doing it good is the bahn.de, they really have all the data.. but no api. I tryed to parse theyre result page (in order to use them as API), but seem like the markup is been build exactly to avoid that.. maybe they have business plans behind that or whatever, but i dont think they will ever release some API.. so, my project is going on without this function (p.s: my project is about non-profit cultural organizations, we wont make war to anyone ;P) @El Goorf: if you find a way, and consider the idea of sharing it, count on my hand if need help!

  I need to validate the LDAP user by checking if there exists such a user name in the specified domain. For this I am using this code - DirectoryEntry entry = new DirectoryEntry("LDAP://" + strDomainController); DirectorySearcher searcher = new DirectorySearcher(entry); searcher.Filter = "SAMAccountName=" + strUserName; SearchResult result = searcher.FindOne(); return (result != null) ? true : false; This is a method in a class library which I intened to reference and use whereever I need this functionality in my project. To test this, I created a simple test application. The test occurs like this - Console.WriteLine(MyClassLib.MyValidateUserMethod("UserName", "Domain",ref strError).ToString()); The problem I am facing is that this works fine when I test it with my testapp but in my project, when I try to use the same method with the same credentials - The DirectoryEntry object throws an "System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryServicesCOMException" exception and the search.Filter fails and throws ex = {"Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.\r\n"} exception. I have tried impersonation but that doesn't help. Somehow the same method works fine in mytestapp and doesn't work in my project. Both these applications are in my local dev machine. What am I missing? Any ideas?

More specifically, I would allow updates through a PUT on the resource, but what should I allow in the body of the PUT request? Always the complete structure of the resource? Always the subpart (that changed) of the structure of the resource? A combination of both? For example, take the resource http://example.org/api/v1/dogs/packs/p1.   For our CMS we have a site manager that defines the site's tree structure (sitemap if you want to call it that). A possible url is www.example.com/our-team/developers/chris/ which would map in the tree structure to the node chris, child old developers which is in turn a child of out-team. All this is in place and working the the wonderfully implemented Nested Set behavior in doctrine. The only thing is that i'm struggling to get it working in the front end of our website. By default Zend framework's request object expects controller/action/key/value/key/value/... URI scheme but that isn't quite fitting my needs, i would like to skip the whole controller, action and key part and restrict to values. Something like value1/value2/value3/value4/... Anyone has an idea how to accomplish this?

  The error occurs when I rename the file. I need to be able to the macro automatically recognise the change in the file name and apply it to the macro.   Hi there, Suposse you have to following tables where a sale consists of products and a product can be placed in multiple categories. I also want to include the hierachly structure of the categories. So if we have a leave node, recusivly go up to the top node. • Database with users design

  I am in database design development phase. Application will work with large number of users (LARGE :)) I designed 80% of database but I have one Users table which is connected to everything else: Users {UserId, FirstName, LastName, Username, Password, PasswordQuestion, PasswordAnswer, Gender, RoleId, LastLoginDate etc etc} I saw asp.net membership database structure where Users and Membership are two tables. My questions are: Should I use one users table with all users data in it or more tables? If answer is 'more tables', what tables to use? Any advice on how to structure relation between those tables? This is sample relation that I have, and trying to improve. I don't understand why user and userChild are separated tables?

• Data import wizard library for .Net?

  Does anyone know of a 3rd party data import wizard that can be embedded into applications? It should import from Excel, Access, SQLServer, csv, tab-separated flat file, XML, Oracle etc. We have a fixed data structure within our application and the user should be able to configure the wizard to match his/her import fields to our own data structure. The wizard should be a library of sorts – preferably a .Net type library. We may want to have it both web-based and desktop based (hence we may need an ASP.Net controls version and a Winforms version). We may also want integration with WPF and Silverlight. If there’s no UI wizard available, does anyone know of a non-UI library that supports easily configurable import from many, many different datasources?

• purpose of 3rd party mvc ?

  ive seen many third party mvcs or frameworks such as codeignitor , cakephp, and so on. what i want to know is what are their purposes? ive created my own framework call it an mvc or framework (in my opinion their all the same). in my framework i have all the classes in one folder called classes and all functions in another. its all organized and when a new project comes in i am able to complete it fast. i have looked at the applications that i mentioned and it seems to have huge articles and tutorials to study. what is the purpose? why not study the main language such as php, javascript/ajax or jquery, and so on then build something that you know the ins and outs of so that any project comes your way you know what to do. ive known some people who use cakephp and for every project they get stuck and need to figure out what to do. another guy i knew worked with joomla and every basic company website that came his way he would reverse engineer joomla to make it work with the site. are people using these applications because they lack knowledge in the languages? or sometimes have no choice but to make a site while lacking language and put something together.
