  • Objective-c class initializer executes multiple times

    - by apisip
    Unless I misunderstood it, this LINK from Apple's documentation clearly states that the class initializer, "+ (void)initialize)", only executes once per class. Here is the excerpt: Special Considerations initialize it is invoked only once per class. If you want to perform independent initialization for the class and for categories of the class, you should implement load methods. However, I'm getting a weird behavior on my project and the initializer is being executed twice. So I have to check if _classContext is null. I only got one class that has this method. What are the possible reasons why this is happening? I'm using XCode 4.5.2 and OS X 10.8.2. I got multiple iOS simulators, iPhone 5.1 and 6.0. + (void) initialize { num++; NSLog([NSString stringWithFormat:@"Times: %i", num]); if(_classContext == nil) _classContext = [[myClass alloc] init]; }

  • How to detect tap on uiview with lots of controls?

    - by kodcu
    My problem is about tap detection. I have a uiviewcontroller and there are some controls on uiview (labels, buttons, tableview, imageview, etc..) When I tap the uibutton I display a small uiview (200x150), if the user taps the uibuttons in smallview I hide the smallview. But I can't hide the uiview if the user taps the background. I tried this code.. -(void) touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event{ //NSLog(@"Touches began."); [self hideShareView]; } It doesn't work if I tap the another button in the uiviewcontrols view. I just want my uiviewcontrol's uiview to react first. I think its about firstResponder but I dont know how to set it first. edit: i want it to work like a uiPopover in ipad.

  • UISegemnted COntrol - selecting 3rd segment activates second segment

    - by diggers25
    I have a segmented control with 3 defined segments. i am looking to capture the segment index so I can use it in an if statement to update variables accordingly as such: -(IBAction)numPlayers:(id)sender; { numPlayersSegment = [(UISegmentedControl *)sender retain]; if (numPlayersSegment.selectedSegmentIndex == 0) { numOfPlayers = 2; } else if (numPlayersSegment.selectedSegmentIndex = 1) { numOfPlayers = 3; } else if (numPlayersSegment.selectedSegmentIndex = 2) { numOfPlayers = 4; } else if (numPlayersSegment.selectedSegmentIndex = -1) { numOfPlayers = 0; } NSLog(@"Players selected = %d", numPlayersSegment.selectedSegmentIndex); However whenever I press the third segment (index 2) it returns the value of the second segment (index 1) and also highlights the 2nd segment. I can see nothing untoward in IB. Has anybody seen this and have any suggestions. I am using xcode 3.2.1 on snow leopard thanks

  • iPhone - Launching selectors from a different class

    - by David Schiefer
    Hi, I'd like to reload a table view which is in another class called "WriteIt_MobileAppDelegate" from one of my other classes which is called "Properties". I've tried to do this via the NSNotificationCenter class - the log gets called but the table is never updated. Properties.h: [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] postNotificationName:@"NameChanged" object:[WriteIt_MobileAppDelegate class] userInfo:nil]; WriteIt_MobileAppDelegate.m -(void)awakeFromNib { [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(reloadItProperties:) name:@"NameChanged" object:self]; } - (void) reloadItProperties: (NSNotification *)notification { NSLog(@"Reloading Data"); //this gets called [self.navigationController popToRootViewControllerAnimated:YES]; [self.tblSimpleTable reloadData]; [self.tblSimpleTable reloadSectionIndexTitles]; // but the rest doesn't } What am I doing wrong here?

  • iPhone Application: force landscape mode, strange behaviour...?

    - by David Lawson
    This is a method I use to switch display views, based on a string passed (for example you could pass MainMenuViewController to switch views to a new instance of that class): - (void)displayView:(NSString *)newView { NSLog(@"%@", newView); [[currentView view] removeFromSuperview]; [currentView release]; UIViewController *newView = [[NSClassFromString(newView) alloc] init]; [[newView view] setFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 460)]; [self setCurrentView:newView]; [[self view] addSubview:[currentView view]]; } I have my application forced into landscape view (.plist and -shouldRotate), but if you look in the code: [[newView view] setFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 460)]; I have to set the frame of the newView to a portrait frame for the view to be displayed correctly - otherwise, for example, a button on the new view can only be pressed in certain parts of the screen (rectangle up the top), unresponsive anywhere else. Even though in all my NIB files they are set to landscape.

  • CoreData could not fulfill a fault when adding new attribute

    - by cagreen
    I am receiving a "CoreData could not fulfill a fault for ..." error message when trying to access a new attribute in a new data model. If I work with new data I'm ok, but when I attempt to read existing data I get the error. Do I need to handle the entity differently myself if the attribute isn't in my original data? I was under the impression that Core Data could handle this for me. My new attribute is marked as optional with a default value. I have created a new .xcdatamodel (and set it to be the current version) and updated my NSPersistentStoreCoordinator initialization to take advantage of the lightweight migration as follows: NSDictionary *options = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: [NSNumber numberWithBool:YES], NSMigratePersistentStoresAutomaticallyOption, [NSNumber numberWithBool:YES], NSInferMappingModelAutomaticallyOption, nil]; NSError *error = nil; persistentStoreCoordinator = [[NSPersistentStoreCoordinator alloc] initWithManagedObjectModel:[self managedObjectModel]]; if (![persistentStoreCoordinator addPersistentStoreWithType:NSSQLiteStoreType configuration:nil URL:storeUrl options:options error:&error]) { NSLog(@"Unresolved error %@, %@", error, [error userInfo]); abort(); } Any help is appreciated.

  • http authenitcation in xcode

    - by user313100
    I am trying to make twitter work in my app and everything works fine except the code does not seem to recognize an error from twitter. If the username/password are not valid, I get an error message through this function: - (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didReceiveData:(NSData *)data { NSString* strData = [[[NSString alloc] initWithBytes:[data bytes] length:[data length] encoding:NSASCIIStringEncoding] autorelease]; NSLog(@"Received data: %@", strData ) ; return ; } It prints: Received data: Could not authenticate you. . However, the app continues to the post a tweet view I have and ignores the error. Obviously, I do not have something setup right to detect such an error from twitter so my question is how do I get xcode to recognize an error like this? This uses basic http auth btw and don't mention anything about OAuth...just trying to get this to work for now.

  • Issues using UITapGestureRecognizers in Interface Builder

    - by 5StringRyan
    I'm attempting to use the UITapGestureRecognizer object that can be found in Interface Builder. I've dragged a single "UITapGestureRecognizer" from the object library to a single view xib. I then create an IBAction method from this tap gesture, for a simple test, I'm just printing an "NSLog" message to the console once there is a tap on the view. I've run this, and the tap method isn't being called. I right click the view in IB and I noticed that there is a warning "!" on the view's "Outlook Collections" I see: Outlook Collections gestureRecognizers - Tap Gesture Recognizer (!) The warning states: UIView does not have an outlet collection named gestureRecognizers. What do I need to do to remedy this?

  • How to animate a UIButton selected background Image

    - by Thomas Joos
    hi all, I have a class defining a custom UIButton. I configurate a normal and selected state like this: //custom image UIImage *image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"customIconCreationBG.png"]; UIImage *stretchImage = [image stretchableImageWithLeftCapWidth:0.0 topCapHeight:0.0]; [self setBackgroundImage:stretchImage forState:UIControlStateNormal]; UIImage *imageSelected = [UIImage imageNamed:@"customIconCreationBG_selected.png"]; UIImage *stretchImageSelected = [imageSelected stretchableImageWithLeftCapWidth:0.0 topCapHeight:0.0]; [self setBackgroundImage:stretchImageSelected forState:UIControlStateSelected]; In another class I'm filling an array with custom buttons and i'm adding a button pressed method. It sets the selected state to TRUE -(void)buttnPressed:(id)sender { NSLog(@"button pressed"); [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] postNotificationName:@"unselectBGIcons" object:self]; HorizontalListIcon *pressedIcon = ((HorizontalListIcon *)sender); [pressedIcon setSelected:TRUE]; } The button switches to another background, which is great. Is there a way to animate this change ( fading in? ) because it's a bit hard now. Greets

  • Localization not working

    - by Krumelur
    I have an application that is supposed to be localized (two languages, english being the default). However, I seem to only get the English versions of all strings, regardless of what the system default language is. I am probably missing something trivial, but I've read several tutorials now without any solution. I added this line to main(), NSLog(@"Current locale is: %@", [[NSLocale currentLocale] localeIdentifier]); and the resulting printout is en_US, while the system was set to use the localized language. I checked the build output, and the app bundle contains the XX.lproj folders as I believe they should (and they are UTF-16, I confirmed this). What am I missing?

  • How do I convert a NSString into TIS-620 encoded string

    - by MacPC
    In the apple document, I can see that there's a way to convert from UTF8 string to ASCII string like this NSData *asciiData = [theString dataUsingEncoding:NSASCIIStringEncoding allowLossyConversion:YES]; NSString *asciiString = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:asciiData encoding:NSASCIIStringEncoding]; But my app requires a TIS-620 string to post to a site so I try to do the same thing NSData *asciiData = [newPost.header dataUsingEncoding:kCFStringEncodingMacThai allowLossyConversion:YES]; NSString *asciiString = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:asciiData encoding:kCFStringEncodingMacThai]; NSLog(@"%@", asciiString); The output I got is like this ???????????. Does anyone know how to convert the NSString to TIS-620 properly? Thanks so much.

  • NSTextField doesn't display text

    - by Alexsander Akers
    The NSTextField has a superview and a frame. It is fully visible and has the following declaration: - (id) initWithFrame: (NSRect) frameRect { if ((self = [super initWithFrame: NSMakeRect(0, 0, 300, 20)])) { label = [[NSTextField alloc] initWithFrame: NSMakeRect(47, 1, 233, 18)]; [[label cell] setAllowsUndo: NO]; [[label cell] setLineBreakMode: NSLineBreakByTruncatingMiddle]; [[label cell] setScrollable: NO]; [label setBezeled: NO]; [label setBordered: NO]; [label setDrawsBackground: NO]; [label setEditable: NO]; [label setFont: [NSFont menuFontOfSize: 14.0f]]; [label setSelectable: NO]; [label setTextColor: [NSColor textColor]]; [self addSubview: label]; NSLog(@"%@", NSStringFromRect([label visibleRect])); } return self; }

  • noob iPhone "count" frustrations!?!?!

    - by codemonkey
    Okay, I know I must be doing something incredibly stupid here. Here's the sample code (which, when executed within a viewDidLoad block silently crashes... no error output to debug console). NSMutableArray *bs = [NSMutableArray arrayWithCapacity:10]; [bs addObject:[NSNumber numberWithInteger: 2]]; NSLog(@"%@", [bs count]); [bs release]; What am I missing? Oh... and in case anyone is wondering, this code is just me trying to figure out why I can't get the count of an NSMutableArray that actually matters somewhere else in the program.

  • Print out the variable name objective-C

    - by vodkhang
    Continued from the last question here: Log method name in Obj-C . I just wondered if there is a way to print out the variable name as well. For example: NSString *name = "vodkhang"; NCLog(@"%@", name); and I hope that the output should be: name: vodkhang Just to summarize the previous post, currently, I can print out the class name, method name and the line number when I call NCLog(@"Hello World"); <ApplicationDelegate:applicationDidFinishLaunching:10>Hello world with #define NCLog(s, ...) NSLog(@"<%@:%d> %@", __FUNCTION__, __LINE__, [NSString stringWithFormat:(s), ##__VA_ARGS__])

  • Word on HTML document point.

    - by leolobato
    Hey guys, How can I figure out which word is at the point where the user tapped on a UIWebView? I am able to detect the CGPoint for the tap (subclassing UIWindow like this), and I can actually get the DOM element on that point using javascript. But I know very little of javascript and DOM to figure out how can I actually get which word the user tapped on. Is that possible? Here's what I have right now: int scrollPosition = [[webView stringByEvaluatingJavaScriptFromString:@"window.pageYOffset"] intValue]; NSString *js = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"document.elementFromPoint(%f, %f).tagName", point.x, point.y+scrollPosition]; NSString *value = [webView stringByEvaluatingJavaScriptFromString:js]; NSLog(@"element: %@", value);

  • Why does this TableView code work?

    - by nevan
    I made a typo when creating a UITableViewCell with this code: - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"CellIdentifier"; UITableViewCell *cell = [self.tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { NSLog(@"Creating cell"); cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewStylePlain reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; } cell.textLabel.text = @"Hello"; return cell; } The typo is in using UITableViewStylePlain instead of UITableViewCellStyleDefault. The code worked fine, creating new cells. Why?

    I just began to work with Objective-C and I'm managing pretty well. My last challenge was to make a command line utility, which I could than use in AppleScript. But my code does not work, not in the terminal, not in the AppleScript. So I'm asking you, what's the error in this peace of code, that should be very plain and easy? int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; // -imagePath // -filePath NSUserDefaults *args = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; NSString *soundPath = [args stringForKey:@"imagePath"]; NSString *filePath = [args stringForKey:@"filePath"]; BOOL worked = [[NSWorkspace sharedWorkspace] setIcon:[[NSImage alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:soundPath] forFile:filePath options:0]; NSLog(@"Worked: %i",worked); [pool release]; return 0; }
